FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Uganda bows out after falling to Ghana in return leg

Uganda’s journey in the FIFA U20 Women’s world cup came to an end at the hands of opponents Ghana after a miserable display by Ayub Khalifan’s team.

Ghana beat Uganda 5-0 in the return leg of the 4th round in Cape Coast to book a place in the final qualification stage of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Costa Rica.

Ghana’s goals were scored by Rahama Dafa who got a brace as Evelyn Badu, Abdulai Salamatu and Doris Baduwa also had their names on the score sheet.

Uganda’s poor show on the day was exhibited as fortunes turned from 2-0 down on 82 minutes to concede three goals in the final eight minutes of the game for the scoreboard to read 5-0 to Ghana.

The powerful West African side advanced 7-1 on aggregate to hand the Uganda U-20 their heaviest ever defeat.

Ghana won the first leg 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende and have automatically qualified to play CECAFA U20 Champions Ethiopia in the final round of qualification.
