FUFA Reinforces Use of Official Match Ball in Competitions

This measure is intended to safeguard the integrity of matches and ensure consistency across all FUFA Organised Competitions (FOC) and FUFA Authorised Competitions (FAC).

Any breach of this regulation by referees, organising committees, or host teams will attract disciplinary action in line with the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

In addition, FUFA has directed that for the Men’s First Division League, clubs must always ensure that a minimum of fifteen balls are available with the ball crew to maximise playing time and maintain the pace of matches.

Through these measures, FUFA continues to emphasise professionalism, order, and fairness in all its competitions.

  • FUFA Juniors League 2025: Nkoola brace sees Vipers SC JT dethrone Bul FC JT to lift title

FUFA Juniors League 2025: Nkoola brace sees Vipers SC JT dethrone Bul FC JT to lift title

Vipers SC Junior Team ended Bul FC Junior Team’s three-year reign in the FUFA Juniors League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the 2025 grand finale played on Wednesday afternoon at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

In a tightly contested first half, both sides approached the game with caution, producing few clear chances as fans eagerly waited for a breakthrough.

The second stanza, however, provided the much-needed spark, with Junior Venoms forward Arafat Nkoola grabbing the spotlight.

Nkoola broke the deadlock on the hour mark, calmly finishing to give Vipers the lead.

Bul responded almost immediately, as their talisman and league’s leading scorer Ivan Waturu converted a penalty three minutes later to notch his 21st goal of the season.

But Vipers needed just a minute to restore their advantage—Nkoola once again stepping up with a towering header to complete his brace and swing momentum back in his team’s favor.

Bul FC JT threw on fresh legs in a bid to claw back into the contest, introducing Uganda Cubs skipper Richard Okello and lively forward Gift Fred Mutalya, but Vipers stood resolute at the back.

The Venoms eventually held firm until the final whistle to seal their third Juniors League title, having previously triumphed in 2015/16 (vs KCCA FC SA) and 2017/18 (vs Onduparaka JT).

The occasion was further lit up at halftime when Uganda Cranes midfielder Isma Mugulusi—himself a proud product of the FUFA Juniors League—brought the glittering trophy onto the pitch, symbolizing the competition’s impact as a breeding ground for national stars.

The victory not only crowned Vipers as champions but also marked the end of Bul FC JT’s dominance, who had lifted the title in three consecutive editions prior.

Since its inception in 2015, the FUFA Juniors League has continued to nurture talents such as Allan Okello, Abdu Azizi Kayondo, Travis Mutyaba, Rogers Mato, Kenneth Semakula, and Mugulusi, reaffirming its place as a cornerstone of Uganda’s football development.

The awarding ceremony that was graced by FUFA 2nd Vice President Dr.Taibu Azah, FUFA Exco. Member and Bul FC chairman Ronald Barente as well as Vipers SC representative Muwanguzi Joel saw URA FC JT take home the Fair Play award, the Golden Glove was taken by Bul’s Wanjala Richard, Top scorer award to Bul’s Ivan Maturu while Vipers’ Arafat Nkoola was named MVP.

Bul FC JT, who have lifted the championship for the past three consecutive editions, will be seeking a historic fourth straight crown. Meanwhile, Vipers SC JT are eyeing their third title, having previously triumphed in the 2015/16 season against KCCA FC SA on penalties and in the 2017/18 edition against Onduparaka FC JT.

The road to the final saw Bul FC JT dominate the Hatrick group, finishing as leaders with 65 points from 21 games across three rounds—six points clear of second-placed KCCA FC SA. On the other hand, Vipers SC JT topped the Treble group with 58 points from 21 matches, 13 points ahead of URA FC JT in second place.

This clash promises more than just the crown, as the Golden Boot race will also be decided. Bul FC JT’s prolific striker Maturu Ivan, the current top scorer with 20 goals, faces stiff competition from Vipers SC JT’s Wanyama Simon, who has netted 18 times this season.

Since its inception in 2015 under MTN sponsorship, the FUFA Juniors League has been a breeding ground for talent, producing stars who have grown into key figures for the Uganda Cranes, including Allan Okello, Abdu Azizi Kayondo, Travis Mutyaba, Rogers Mato, Kenneth Semakula, and Isma Mugulusi.

The team held their final training session today in preparation for the game, after which Head Coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes addressed the media.

‘We have had our final training session, and the girls are well prepared. We want to correct the mistakes we made in the first game. The girls experienced a lot of panic and pressure, especially in the first half, but we have worked on that. We do not want individual brilliance when attacking; we want to do it as a team. Let us save individual brilliance for inside the box. We missed a lot of chances, and we do not want to repeat the same mistakes. We have had individual meetings with the players and spoken to them about what caused the pressure and panic in the game. We have a very good squad, and you will see the changes tomorrow in our second game.’

The coach also expressed her gratitude to the fans who turned up in large numbers, noting that their energy carried the girls through to the final whistle.

‘I am grateful to the fans who came in large numbers; their energy pushed the girls to the last minute. I am happy the girls had the support of the fans. It is amazing to see them cheering the players, calling out their names and showing love. It gives the players hope and motivation, knowing there is someone supporting them. Let this support continue tomorrow. They need to come and watch the girls who will one day feed into the senior national team.’

Assistant captain Agnes Nabukenya emphasised that the job is not yet done.

‘Scoring three goals in our first game does not give us the audacity to relax tomorrow. They are still a strong team, and in football anything can happen. We have worked on our mistakes, especially those from the first half, and we still need more goals tomorrow. The team is in good shape, and everyone is willing to give their best. We call upon our fans to support us the same way they did in our first game, and we promise to give them the best.’

The Queen Cranes will face the winner between Zambia and Burundi on aggregate in the next stage. Zambia hold the advantage following their 2-1 win over Burundi in the first leg.

  • FUFA President Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening the Uganda Premier League at 12th FSLL AGM

FUFA President Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening the Uganda Premier League at 12th FSLL AGM

The FUFA President has assured stakeholders of FUFA’s commitment to improving the Uganda Premier League (UPL) during the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) held in Jinja. Addressing board members, clubs and officials, he emphasised the importance of governance, financial sustainability and reforms as the League’s flagship competition.

Role of FUFA Super League Limited

The President reiterated FUFA’s position in delegating the League’s management to FSLL. ‘FUFA Super League Limited is a company that FUFA has delegated the mandate to run the Uganda Premier League. The Uganda Premier League is a competition of FUFA by statute, but in the interest of improving the game, the Executive Committee decided to delegate this role to FSLL,’ he explained.

He thanked the Board for stabilising operations after years of internal disagreements. ‘Before this particular Board, there was a lot of suspicion, discontent and conflict that did not improve the League. I want to thank the Chairman and the Board for the work you have done to stabilise the ship,’ he said.

    Acknowledgement of Stakeholders

The President paid tribute to FUFA’s 3rd Vice President, Owek. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, for bridging the Federation and the League in long-term planning. He also applauded the UPL Secretariat for its commitment despite challenges, as well as the clubs for their sacrifice. ‘Without the clubs, and many times without you digging into your individual pockets, we would not have the League. You volunteer money, you volunteer time and you volunteer yourselves for the game,’ he noted.

He welcomed newly promoted clubs Entebbe UPPC FC, Calvary FC and Buhimba United Saints FC into the UPL and praised BUL FC for hosting this year’s AGM, noting the importance of rotation.

    Governance and Club Licensing

Emphasising governance, the President said that AGMs must become a standard practice at club level. ‘From the FUFA point of view, going forward it is going to be a mandatory Club Licensing requirement that there must be an AGM at each club, even if it is a privately-owned club. Owners must meet the board or executive to discuss the statutory agenda with FUFA present. If the meeting does not take place, then you may not be given a licence to play in the League,’ he stressed.

Football in a Time of Opportunity

Reflecting on Uganda’s football progress, he described the present period as one of the best in history. He attributed this to peace, improved infrastructure and supportive legislation. ‘Sincerely speaking, we are living in a peaceful country. We can travel from Calvary to Buhimba and Mbarara without anybody stopping you. We need to appreciate His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni because there is no way talent can be harnessed if wars are going on,’ he remarked.

He pointed to the new National Sports Act, increased government funding for national teams and major investments in infrastructure, including international stadiums in Hoima and Lira, as opportunities that the game must seize.

    Challenges of Funding

Despite the progress, he identified financing as the biggest challenge for the UPL. ‘Members, our biggest problem today in the Uganda Premier League is money. Almost all the funds we use are coming from institutions or private individuals. This is not sustainable. In such circumstances, you cannot enforce standards because you are asking someone to spend personal money on pitches or player salaries. We need to address the issue of money,’ he said.

Technical Master Plan and Player Development

The President outlined FUFA’s Technical Master Plan, which focuses on talent identification, development, professional clubs and life after playing. He stressed that elite players must be developed at clubs and warned against the constant loss of stars to foreign leagues. ‘When we lose our best players, the League gets depleted of stars, and it becomes very difficult to sell. We need money to make money,’ he stated.

    FUFA’s Position in the League

He rejected suggestions that FUFA had abandoned or interfered with the League. ‘FUFA Super League Limited is a company owned by 17 shareholders. Sixteen are clubs and the seventeenth is FUFA. We are shareholders in this company and cannot be intruders. The UPL is our flagship brand, and we cannot abandon it,’ he affirmed.

    Reforms and Investment

Turning to reforms, the President called for unity. ‘As a Federation, we believe you cannot do the same thing the same way and expect different results. We need all 16 clubs to support the reforms and to be ambassadors of change,’ he said.

He revealed that FUFA has mobilised resources for reforms, including a direct cash injection of over 950,000 US dollars. ‘This money could have gone into other projects, including Kadiba Stadium, but we chose to invest it in the League to generate more revenue. It is bigger than any other sponsorship and comes from FUFA, not government,’ he clarified.

Further commitments include investing in new UPL offices worth 300 to 400 million shillings, introducing technical officers to collect match data, and strengthening the Secretariat with additional professional staff.

    Call for Unity and Patience

In conclusion, the President urged stakeholders to embrace change despite uncertainties. ‘Let us not run away from friendly sources like FUFA that has come to ensure that we improve the situation. Negativity in some sections of fans is created by us. We must educate our fans that this format ensures fairness and competition,’ he said.

‘Some people have said these reforms will not work. Nobody has the authority to say so before they are tried. Let us give them a chance. We believe that we shall be vindicated by creating a stronger product that generates more revenue for our clubs,’ he concluded.

  • FIFA U20 WWCQ: Queen Cranes cruise past Namibia in first-leg encounter

FIFA U20 WWCQ: Queen Cranes cruise past Namibia in first-leg encounter

The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team, the Queen Cranes, took a giant step towards the next round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after dispatching Namibia 3-0 in the first leg of the second-round clash played on Friday evening.

Goals from Sylvia Kabene, Barbra Anomo, and substitute Mary Kantono ensured Uganda carries a healthy cushion going into Monday’s decisive return leg at the FUFA stadium, Kadiba.

The first half saw Uganda dominate proceedings but struggle to find the breakthrough despite several clear chances. Agnes Nabukenya, Patricia Nayiga, Sumaya Nalumu, and Kabene all came close, but Namibia held firm to go into the interval with the score still locked at 0-0.

Coach Sheryl Botes responded at halftime with a tactical switch, introducing Peace Muduwa for Doreen Aujat. The change immediately swung momentum further in Uganda’s favor, as Kabene finally broke the deadlock in the 47th minute with a powerful effort that slipped through the Namibian goalkeeper’s hands.

With continued dominance, Uganda extended their advantage late in the game. In the 82nd minute, Nalumu’s dazzling run and cross picked out Anomo, who nodded home to double the lead. Moments before the final whistle, Kantono put the result beyond doubt with a clinical finish to make it 3-0.

The aggregate winner between Uganda and Namibia will progress to face either Zambia or Burundi in the next qualifying round scheduled for February 2026. Zambia holds a narrow 2-1 lead from their first leg away in Burundi.

Speaking to the press during the post-match conference, Namibian assistant coach Damaseb Errol praised his players’ performance despite the loss.

The Queen Cranes Head Coach, Sheryl Ulanda Botes, in the post-match press conference said she has a few departments to work on come Monday.

‘The girls played well, but they had pressure in the first minutes, which is why we did not score in the first half. We spoke to them during halftime, and yes, they scored goals in the second half. However, this was not our agenda; we wanted to score more goals in the first leg so that we could bring another starting XI in the second game. Unfortunately, this was not fulfilled, so we have to go back and correct some mistakes, and we will come back on Monday well-prepared.”

When asked about the opponent, Sheryl Botes replied, ‘They played well, and I will nt take them for granted. They made some mistakes, and that is where we capitalized, but that does not mean they are a bad team. I will not undermine them; we all want to qualify for the World Cup, and may the best team win on Monday.”

Africa has four slots for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, which will be staged in Poland.

  • FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim Engages Media on Reforms and Vision for Ugandan Football

FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim Engages Media on Reforms and Vision for Ugandan Football

The FUFA President has engaged members of the sports media in a special session designed to strengthen relations and explain ongoing reforms within Ugandan football. He clarified from the outset that the gathering was not a conventional press conference but an opportunity for dialogue.

‘This is not a press conference. A press conference is a one-way communication. This is an engagement where we talk to each other and get to know one another better,’ he remarked while also appreciating the Uganda Sports Press Association and its members for their cooperation.

    Strengthening Relations with the Media

The President emphasised the role of the media in shaping football. ‘Our mandate as FUFA is to think for the game through our 34 members, and your mandate is to communicate those ideas to the public. You are free to form independent opinions, which we respect, but differences in opinion should not stop us from working together.’

    Institutional Growth and Vision

Reflecting on the Federation’s journey since 2013, the President pointed to significant progress. ‘We have moved from a turnover of four billion to forty billion shillings. We have recruited professionals to strengthen our human resource and built strong partnerships with government, sponsors, FIFA and the media.’

He reaffirmed FUFA’s long-term vision, saying: ‘Our vision is to be the number one football nation in Africa on and off the pitch.’ He noted that while a UEFA assessment had praised FUFA’s governance, it also identified gaps in player development and competitions.

Technical Master Plan and Talent Pathways

To address those gaps, the Federation is implementing a Technical Master Plan. ‘The plan is anchored on four pillars,’ he explained. ‘We must identify talent through mass football. We must create proper pathways, including the National Football Academy. We must reorganise club football to retain players who risk being lost at 18 or 19. And finally, we must reabsorb our retired players and referees into the game.’

    League and Competition Reforms

Among the headline reforms is a restructuring of the Uganda Premier League into a three-round format. ‘In round one, all sixteen clubs will play each other once. In round two, the top eight will play in one group and the bottom eight in another. In round three, the top six will fight for the championship, the bottom six will battle relegation, and the middle four will face each other,’ he said.

‘This system will make every game count. It will also ensure that big fixtures such as KCCA against Vipers happen more often, which is what fans and sponsors want. Events create value, and without value football cannot generate money.’

    Refereeing, Players and Clubs

The President also announced major investment in refereeing and players’ welfare. ‘We have reduced referees from 100 to 50, and 13 of them are already FIFA-certified. Their welfare is now a priority with improved allowances, medical insurance and modern equipment,’ he revealed.

On players, he said: ‘Every match will now have a Man of the Match reward. Winning teams will receive locker room bonuses which increase each round. A player can earn up to 650,000 shillings in round three.’

He confirmed that each club will receive 80 million shillings in direct financial support alongside prize money worth 532 million shillings. ‘We have also set aside a budget to promote the League through media and marketing,’ he added.

    Confidence in Delivery

While recognising that change is often met with doubt, the President assured stakeholders of FUFA’s track record. ‘Many people doubted us when we started FUFA Radio and FUFA TV or when we went for AFCON hosting rights. Yet we delivered. We shall also deliver on these reforms,’ he said.

    Call to the Media

In his closing remarks, the President appealed to the media to remain professional and supportive. ‘Report accurately and separate fact from opinion. Football should never be personalised. Let us unite as Ugandans to grow this game. You create the stars and without stars there is no football product.’

Debutant Nalwoga Yasmeen Confident Queen Cranes Will Overcome Namibia

The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team, the Queen Cranes, have entered their third day of training under the guidance of head coach Sherly Ulanda Botes as they prepare for a crucial two-legged tie against Namibia. The matches mark the beginning of their journey toward a historic qualification for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup — a feat Uganda has never achieved before.

As the team intensifies preparations at the Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, the confidence is building among players . Among the fresh faces in the squad is Nalwoga Yasmeen, a promising talent from Rines SS, who plays in the FUFA Women Super League. Yasmeen, making her debut for the national team, expressed both gratitude and confidence ahead of the encounter.

‘We had our third training session today at Wankulukuku, and everything is going well,’ Yasmeen shared in an exclusive interview. ‘We’re in good shape, and the entire team is working together to go past Namibia.’

Despite being new to the setup, Yasmeen believes in the team’s vision and the leadership of coach Botes.

‘This is my first call-up to the national team, but I believe in the coach’s tactics and instructions. I listen to her — she guides me, and I trust her plan. If given the opportunity to start, I will give my all and work hard with the team to ensure we eliminate Namibia.’

Reflecting on the honor of wearing national colors, Yasmeen added: ‘It feels amazing to be selected among so many talented players. It’s a great honor to represent my country. I feel proud and ready to work hard to help the team achieve its dreams. We all share the same goal, but I’ve also set personal targets — I want to be among the best.’

Uganda will face Namibia in the two-legged tie on September 19th and September 22nd at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, with both matches scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM.

  • Odilo 2025 Girls: Oasis to face Prime View, Bergen face Habanomu in semis as Group stage closes.

Odilo 2025 Girls: Oasis to face Prime View, Bergen face Habanomu in semis as Group stage closes.

West Nile Champions Oasis Primary School came back to winning ways with a 3-0 triumph over Fort City side, Nyakasura Primary School. Having lost 3-1 yesterday on Matchday two, Happy Jackline and Hope Christine’s long-range efforts both found the back of the net as Monday Stella put in the third with a tap-in. The win meant Oasis tops Group A after the end of the group.

In the other Group A action, Kawempe-based, Kampala Region representatives Habanomu Quality Academy beat Rwamuhuga Primary School from Bushenyi in Western Uganda a goal to nil. Iziba Gift’s effort was the last holding nail for Habanomu to cruise into the semis, after completing their groupings as runners-up.

In Group B, Amuca Primary School’s Ajok Silha scored the only hat-trick of the day in their 3-1 win over Aterai Primary School from Kumi in the North Eastern Region. Aterai, who equalled a first-half lead of Amuca through Ajia Anna Mary shortly after the restart of the second half triggered latter into adding the next two to determine the result at full time.

Meanwhile, Bergen on Pitch 1 almost got ripped of all the points, getting it late to equalize through a spot kick converted by Nabakooza Cathy after a foul on substitute Namanda Rinet. Rinet, who was brought on immediately after Bergen conceded through Naluwaga Hanifa would be like the missing piece in their team today, making runs resulting into the foul.

Bergen finished top of their Group B and will face Second placed Habanomu Quality Academy in their Semi Final, as Oasis Primary School faces Prime View Edication Centre.

    Tomorrow Fixtures: Semi Finals.
Oasis Primary School vs. Prime View Education Centre (Pitch 1 | 9:00AM)

  • Odilo 2025 Girls: Expect more goals from Bergen—School’s games teacher

Odilo 2025 Girls: Expect more goals from Bergen—School’s games teacher

Odilo Championship 2025 Girls’ debutants Bergen Nursery and Primary School have scored 11 goals in their opening two group stage fixtures; higher than any other team in this edition. Something ironic, they don’t celebrate the goals—simply the scorer carrying the ball from the net to the centre of the field for a quick restart; what a mentality!

We spoke to their games teacher, Mr. Adaku Felix who admitted that their players are being trained on utilising all the scoring opportunities to score and play in offense as much as possible.

“Scoring is a normal thing for the girls. And we train them to score as much as possible, because this is a tournament and you don’t need to stop scoring.” Mr Adaku said.

He however insisted that they are as well cautious of the overconfidence that comes after having to win with large goal margins, yet they had come in labeled as their group underdogs.

“When we came into the Championship, many people mentioned two other teams to make it out of the groupings after the draws came out.” he added.

“When we won our first two games, it became the other way round. We are now the favorites, but that is not the point. We are not yet distracted, we need more of this performance to the last dot.” he added.

Bergen Nursery and Primary School beat Amuca Primary School, five goals to nil, with Nabakooza Cathy alone netting four and Namanda Rinet scoring the first of the five.

Nabakooza Cathy, speaking after receiving her matchay ball, said she was not aware she was scoring all those goals, but felt happy that she had done it.

“I feel so good to have scored all those goals” Cathy admitted.

“Even me, I entered the pitch not knowing I was scoring all those goals but God helped me to score those (four) goals,” she added.

Cathy would later go on to score a brace on match day two, with this time around Nabisubi Raudah netting a hat-trick and Namuli Saudah a goal in their 6-1 victory over Aterai Primary School.

Raudah credits her matchday ball acquisition to hard work and says she’ll use hers to juggle and learn more skills.

“I feel happy to have won this ball because I have worked for it. I am going to use it for juggling and making some skills.” Nabisubi said.

The Buganda Region Champions from Lyantonde District, Bergen Nursery and Primary School will meet Prime View Education Centre in the closing group game.
