‘We value so much the efforts put in by the young referees officiating in the FUFA Juniors League. A project for the young referees started two years ago and there has been tremendous improvement and enthusiasm from this group’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    Hussein added;

‘This new category is different from the FUFA referee of the year that caters for the rest of officials who handle matches authorized and organized by FUFA’

With the FUFA Juniors league in its fourth year running now, innovations have been started to improve in all aspects of the league designed to cater for players who fall under the age group of 18. However the initial three seasons were for players Under 17.

Ardent Beach Soccer fans in Uganda have every justification to follow every match day at Lido beach in Entebbe with keen attention.

Given the thrills, special skills and goals accompanied with this interesting version of football, indeed fans can not just wait for another match day.

During Sunday’s match day five, the fans were not only treated to the silky flips, dribbles and volleys, but also had the urge and joy to celebrate a whopping 71 goals scored in 12 matches (6 apiece either gender).

A lion’s share of the goals came in the men catergory (48) and the rest (23) scored by the ladies.

The most awaited fixture of the day between Home and Away sponsored Isabeti Beach Soccer Club and the parent club, Nkumba University did not disappoint at all.

Nkumba University won the game 7-6 in the highest scoring game on the day.

Captain Alex Emmanuel Wasswa led by example with a hat-trick for Nkumba University.

Then, came a double from Solomon Ovoyo and Twaha Ayiman.

Isabeti captain Roch Somoka, like Wasswa also scored 3 goals.

Ibrahim Lubwama, David Awori and Rica Byaruhanga got the other goals.

For the women, the match between Buganda Royal University and Entebbe Ladies produced the most goals on the day.

Goalkeepers had a suspect day at office on the sand during match day 5 at Lido Beach

Buganda Royal triumphed 5-1 in the one sided encounter.

Jovia Masiko (2), Mariam Nakawangi, Jackline Ogoa and Dorah Nakimuli netted for Buganda Royal University as Lillian Namubiru and Nakimuli (own goal) replied for Mescach Bogere’s coached Entebbe Ladies.

Only one game (the ladies match between Ajax Queens and Muteesa 1 Royal University) failed to produce a single goal, which is a rare feat in Beach Soccer.

According to the chairperson of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA), the increase in the number of match day goals is attributed to the continued mastering of the laws of beach soccer by the players and interest in the game.

The players have picked interest in the game and at the same time grasped the laws of the beach soccer to the dot.

This has directly translated into improved performances on the sand and hence forth more goals and skills.

The national beach soccer league league returns on Sunday, 26th November 2017.
