    Veteran Striker Geoffrey Serunkuma and Custodian Denis Onyango will not be facing Cape Verde for the first time with the Cranes.

    The duo was part of the Uganda Cranes that faced the Blue Sharks on 18th June 2005 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole during the FIFA 2006 World Cup Qualifiers.

    Serunkuma scored the lone goal that gave Uganda a 1-0 victory on the day.

    Sserunkuma who plays for KCCA FC says that Cape Verde play a free flowing game but can be contained to avert any threats.

    ‘The Cape Verdeans play a flowing game but we managed to keep them silent at Namboole hence the win when I scored. However they are home on Saturday but we are hopeful of getting three points’ said Serunkuma

    However Sserunkuma will have to wait for the nod from Head coach Milutin Sredojevic to select him for the game on Saturday

    ‘I understand their style of play and when to catch them off guard. We are confident with the players we have here’ added Sserunkuma.

    The 34 year old is part of Uganda Cranes contingent that has 7 players and two officials Crispus Muyinda and Media officer Nsereko Hamza Kawuma who arrived early in Cape Verde after camping in Dakar, Senegal. The rest of the team will leave for Cape Verde tonight.

    1st FUFA Women Cup: Gafford Ladies overcome Mutesa 1 to qualify for final

    2017 FUFA Women Cup:

    Gafford Ladies 2-1 Mutesa 1 Royal University

    Gafford Ladies women Football club has become the first team to advance to the finals of the 2017 FUFA Women cup after a 2-1 victory in the first semi final played at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium on Thursday.

    Teddy Veronica Lillian and Monica Namwase second half goals were enough enough to inspire the Kyebando based side to the final as they await the results from the second semifinal between UCU Lady Cardinals and Olila.

    Following a goal-less opening 45 minutes, Veronica lit up the game with the opener after just 2 minutes into the second half.

    Namwase then doubled the lead with a great solo effort after side stepping  goalkeeper Daisy Nakazilo to roll the ball into an empty net on minutes.

    Abiba Nakayobyo pulled a goal back four minutes later to create a tense and exciting finish to the game.

    The second semi final will be played on Friday between UCU Lady Cardinals and Olila at the UCU main campus in Mukono.

    The final shall be played on 18th June 2017 at the Madibira play ground in Busia Municipality.

    Agape, Kyetume make the grade for 2017/18 FUFA Big League

    FUFA Regional League Finals:

    • Eastern: CRO 0 (4) – 0 (5) Agape
    • Buganda: Kyetume 4-1 Nsaagu

    Agape and Kyetume became the latest clubs to be promoted to the 2017/18 FUFA Big league on Wednesday.

    Kyetume won the Buganda region final 4-1 over Nsaagu at Uganda Martyrs’ play ground, Ssonde.

    Denis Lubowa (brace),Yusuf Ssaaka and captain Rajab Jooga were on target for Kyetume, coached by former Uganda Cranes, URA and BUL midfielder Augustine Nsumba.

    Isaac Kalema got the equalizer for Nsaagu.

    In the Eastern region final, Agape defeated CRO 5-4 on post match penalties at the Busembatia play ground.

    This was after normal time had ended goalless before the kicks from the penalty were called.

    The two clubs (Agape and Kyetume) join Western region’s Sharp and Kampala’s Ntinda United as the already promoted clubs.

    Robert Kakeeto Thrilled by maiden Uganda Cranes assignment

    It is every footballer’s dream including Robert Kakeeko to pull on a National team jersey for his country. National team duty calls for delivery on focus, commitment and skills with an aim of not disappointing those who have put a lot of trust in a player during his career.

    Kakeeto a Ugandan International who trades his trade in Aalborg  FC in the Danish Super Liga landed a call up to the Uganda Cranes three days to the day the National team played Kitara Region Select on the Uganda Cranes Regional tours. The match was played on 28th May, 2017 in FortPortal.

    The 22 year says he will never forget in his life the day he donned the Uganda Cranes jersey.

    ‘It is like a dream come true for the reason that any footballer would crave for to feature in his National team. I cannot forget the day I first wore the National Team Jersey yet it was another opportunity for adventure in my motherland’ said an excited Kakeeto

    Kakeeto says that he grew up looking up to Ugandan midfield gem Tony Mawejje though he also admires KCCA FC midfielder Saddam Juma amidst being in the same age range.

    The Aalborg FC player adds that he has to fight tooth and nail not to disappoint those who have confidence in him in particular the National Team tactician Sredejovic ‘Micho’ Milutin for the opportunity he gave him to don the Cranes jersey.

    With hopes of being part of the Uganda Cranes team which will qualify for AFCON Cameroon 2019 and FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, Kakeeto can’t stop working hard to keep in shape for his club and the national team.

    ‘I have to work hard and deliver. It is an obligation for me because I don’t have to let down all those who have commended me especially the Head coach’

    Little did he know that he would ever play competitive football until when he received a lot of praises from people in his home village Kyetume in Mukono.

    ‘I used to play football with my village mates with no hope at all of turning professional. I always heard fans from the sidelines commenting about my skills and how I passed the ball’ added Kakeeto

    During his teenage days he was invited to feature for his Village team and later joined Forever Living Soccer Academy in Kampala under Coach Matia Lule.

    Heavens opened for Kakeeto who later flew to Denmark for trials at Aalborg FC where he has enjoyed great football development stages till when he was promoted to the club’s Senior team.

    The enterprising midfield gem hopes to play in better European leagues like Premier League, Spanish Laliga , Budesliga, French League 1 and Italian Serie A .

    For now, Kakeeto will keep his fingers crossed as Head coach Micho looks forward to picking a positive result against Cape Verde when the Total Africa Cup of Nations 2019 Qualifiers get underway on Saturday 10th June, 2017.

    FUFA Statement following allegations by Katwe United FC Chairman

    It has come to the attention of FUFA that Hon. Allan Sewanyana together with Mr. Allan Mulindwa who is the Lawyer of the Dan Walusimbi Group has held a Press Conference on Wednesday 7th June, 2017 at Grand Imperial where statements were made implicating the person of the FUFA President in matters of unauthorized selling of tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and that the matter has been submitted to FIFA Ethics and Integrity Committee.

    The details of the petition, its merits and demerits have been submitted to Kabega Bogezi & Bukenya Advocates (the Lawyers of the Person of the FUFA President) awaiting any legal steps from whatsoever authorities and any related questions and answers shall be a reserve of the legal team.

    It is however the obligation of FUFA to state some facts for the benefit of the public.

    1) To date FIFA has neither contacted the FUFA President nor the Institution, however when it does an appropriate response shall be provided as required.

    2) Since way back, FIFA Member Associations apply for World Cup Tickets if they receive orders from their Nationals with priority given to those involved in sports. In the recent times, this was the case even in the previous regimes when the FIFA World cup was held in 2006 & 2010 where the same mechanism was applied for 2014.

    3) For the case of 2014, many Ugandans applied for the World Cup Tickets and they paid their ticket face price fees to the FUFA Bank Account. The funds were later remitted to FIFA and Tickets were issued to the persons who paid. At an appropriate time, FUFA will release the corresponding bank trails and the list of Ugandan beneficiaries that applied, paid and received their 2014 World Cup Tickets through FUFA.

    4) All Ugandans that applied and paid for the tickets received them without any complaints whatsoever.

    5) It is therefore incorrect to allege that FIFA gives FUFA tickets for free distribution to Ugandans and there is no single Ugandan that was disenfranchised of the right to buy a ticket for the 2014 World Cup.

    6) FUFA is aware that this is election-related machinations but reiterates that the leadership of FUFA will be determined democratically and by the Members of FUFA and in accordance with the FUFA Statutes.

    The football fraternity including Government, 33 Members of FUFA, Sponsors, Partners, Fans, Public and Service Providers are urged to remain calm during this period as many of such statements are likely to come up in a bid to tarnish the image of the institution, its leaders and also divert the attention of football development in the country.

    FUFA Polls 2017: Players, Coaches, Beach Soccer and Youth Associations elect delegates

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) elections for the Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) continued with a success on Tuesday at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    Uganda Football Players Association (UFPA), Uganda Football Coaches Association (UFCA), Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) and Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) all voted for their respective candidates.

    FUFA Electoral Committee Vice Chairperson Yusuf Awuye flanked by the committee support staff supervised and presided over the peaceful elections.

    Edward Kalungi and Paul Mukatabala are the two players’ representatives who sailed through un-opposed to the FUFA Assembly.

    Paul Ssali Mukisa and Stone Kyambadde returned as the coaches’ delegates (also un-opposed).

    Deo Mutabazi with Anthony Tumwesigye are the beach soccer delegates (voted un-opposed too).

    John Bosco Matisko and Farouk Kigongo also returned unopposed as the youth delegates.

    Awuye was the returning officer in the players and coaches’ election as Stanley Kinene handled the Uganda Beach Soccer Association election.

    Following the successful elections of the District Football Associations (DFA), Regional Football Associations (RFA) and Special Interest Groups (SIG’s), focus and attention will now switch to the women election then followed by the FUFA Executive elections.

    Gender sensitivity in football development is a key ingredient as far as developing the beautiful game world wide is concerned.

    From technical expertise, refereeing, communications, marketing, administration and management, either genders have crucial and equal tasks to undertake.

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), too believes in gender equality.

    On Monday, a level one beginners’ coaching course (theory and practical) started with a massive number of 43 coaches, women inclusive.

    Aisha Nakato,  Aidah Namwase and Tracy  Namutebi are some of the diligent females at the week-long course organised by Tangosport Uganda.

    The course is taking place at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, Buikwe.

    Youth Development officer Bashir Mutyaba, Joseph Mutaka the Managing Director Tangosport Uganda and Paul Mukembo, the Education Affairs Manager Tangosport witnessed the official opening of the course.

    Tangosport director Joseph Mutaka expressed his gratitude upon the overwhelming turn up;

    I take this opportunity to welcome you coaches, turning up in commendable numbers creates a sense of satisfaction and trust in Tangosport Uganda, this is a record attendance since we started organizing courses way back in 2013.

    Mutyaba noted;

    Education is one aspect FUFA has pegged emphasis onto, Let’s embrace these courses for a better tomorrow and  sustainability of the game in Uganda.

    FUFA sends message of condolence to Ivory Coast FA following death of their star player Tiote

    The football world is in shock following the demise of Ivory Coast National team player Cheick Tiote on Monday 5th June, 2017.

    The 30 year old Tiote was part of the Ivory Coast squad that won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.  He has been plying his trade with Beijing Enterprises FC in China.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was shocked upon receiving the sad news.

    ‘We all know what he could offer on the pitch. African football has lost a giant of a player who made life difficult for his opponents on the pitch in the midfield. He was always full of commitment, focus and passion whenever given chance to play’ said FUFA President.

    ‘Our Condolences go out to the Ivory Coast Football Federation following the loss of a player who was hugely followed by football fans around the world including Uganda’ added Magogo.

    ‘We pray that the Almighty keeps his family, relatives and friends strong during these trying times’

    Tiote collapsed during training but was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

    Uganda Cranes and Senegal played to a goalles draw during the international friendly match played at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar city on Tuesday morning.

    Before the game, there was a moment of silence for the late Ivory Coast midfielder Chieck Ismael Tiote, who collapsed during a training session and was declared dead moments later in a Chinese hospital.

    There were lots of positives picked from the game, the second international friendly match after yet another goalless draw with Ethiopia on Saturday in Hawassa.

    Uganda Cranes will remain camped in Senegal for acclimatization and training until when the team flies out to the Cape Verde Islands.

    Uganda will open its campaign for the 2019 Nations cup qualifiers against Cape Verde on Saturday.

    Senegal is ranked 27th while Uganda is 71st in the latest FIFA rankings released on 1st June 2017.

    FUFA Polls 2017: Big league, Referees elect delegates to Assembly

    The Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) and the 2nd Division League (FUFA Big League) have on Monday elected their delegates to the FUFA  Assembly.

    The three successful candidates for the referees voted are; Ronnie Kalema (42 votes), Muhammed Shaban Ndawula (38 votes) and Rosebell Rwamuyamba (36 votes).

    Catherine Adipo withdrew from the race.

    This was after a peaceful election process supervised by the FUFA Electoral Committee Vice chairman/Spokesperson, Yusuf Awufe at FUFA House, Mengo in Kampala.

    The UFRA Executive committee was also confirmed. Ronnie Kalema (Chairperson), David Davis Katabira (1st Vice Chairman), Catherine Adipo (2nd Vice Chairperson), Brian Miiro Nsubuga (Treasurer).

    The committee members are; Joseph Ochom, Ben Adrole, Issa Masembe, Lydia Nantabo Wanyama and Freddie Wanyama.

    UFRA is constituted of 48 delegates who took part in the exercise.

    The Composition of UFRA Assembly that voted the 3 delegates is as below;

    • 10 referees’ assessors elected by FUFA’s 48 certified referees’ assessors
    • 22 FIFA Referees (2017 list)
    • 16 Delegates (2 delegates each representing FUFA’s 8 regions (Kampala, Buganda, Northern, North East, Western, Eastern, West Nile and Kitara).

    Meanwhile, after the referees’ election, focus turned to the FUFA Big league delegates polls.

    The 8 representatives for the FUFA Big league were all unopposed.

    These included; Faisal Muhammed (JMC Hippos), Dennis Musinguzi (Airtel Kitara), Norman Ssemwanga (Kireka), Brian Ssengendo (Synergy), Hassan Kirunda Kakaire (Kataka FC), Apollo Ahimbisibwe (Ntinda United FC), Paul Mark Kayongo( Ndejje University)  and Alfred Odaga (Paidha Black Angels).

    The exercise continues on Tuesday with the Uganda Football coaches and players’ Associations election.

    The other dates for the elections of the delegates for the Special Interest groups in the areas of Coaches, Players, Schools, Youth, Beach Soccer and Schools are hereby attached.
    Women representation will have its election process kick off with the nomination exercise between 8th and 10th June 2017.

    Six KCCA players flew out of the country on Saturday night immediately after guiding their side to a 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Rivers United at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

    These included goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan, Timothy Denis Awany, Denis Okot Oola, Isaac Muleme, Derrick Nsibambi and Geofrey Sserunkuma.

    Speaking on the call up veteran striker Geoffrey Serunkuma said that though he had been involved with his team, he has to give in his best to the National team.

    ‘Though I have been too involved with the my club (KCCA FC ), It won’t be an excuse for my failure to deliver to the National team. Wearing a National team is any footballers dream therefore I have to deliver for my nation” noted Serunkuma.

    Team captain Dennis Onyango is expected to join  the rest of the teammates late on Monday.

    Uganda Cranes take on Senegal in the second international friendly match in Dakar on Monday night (in Uganda, the game kicks off at mid-night – Tuesday, 6th June 2017).

    This will be the second international match for the Uganda Cranes after Saturday’s goal-less draw with Ethiopia in Hawassa city.

    All these build ups and camps are intended to fine tune the squad ahead of the group L match against Cape Verde Islands on Saturday 10th June 2017 in Praia City.

    The team will fly to Praia on Thursday 8th June 2017.

    FUFA Women Elite League: Kawempe Muslim wins third straight title unbeaten

    2016/17 FUFA Women Elite League:

    • Final: UCU Lady Cardinals 0-4 Kawempe Muslim Women Club
    • Third Place play off: Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga 1 (3) -1 (2) Olila High School

    For the third time in a row, Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club has been declared champion of the FUFA Women Elite League. They completed the entire season unbeaten, winning all 12 games in the regular season played over two rounds before registering victories in the Semifinal play offs and finals. In total, they won all the 14 games played in the league this season.

    The latest achievement was reached at on Sunday at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium after a one sided 4-0 victory over UCU Lady Cardinals.

    Juliet Nalukenge scored a brace in the 33rd and 57th minutes before Sharon Naddunga’s 78th minute goal and a late strike from second half substitute Favour Nambatya crowned the day for the champions.

    During the earlier third place play off match, Uganda Martyrs’ High School Lubaga recovered from a goal down to defeat Soroti based Olila High School 3-2 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended one goal apiece.

    The international friendly match between Ethiopia and Uganda played on Saturday at the Hawassa International stadium ended in a score-less draw.

    In the second half, head coach Milutin Sredejovic made a couple of changes.

    Martin Kizza replaced Ntambi, Milton Karisa came on for Robert Kakeeto, Muhammed Shaban replaced Emma Okwi, Nelson Senkatuka was Faruku Miya’s replacement, Bukenya for Khalid Aucho and Hassan Wasswa Mawanda paved way for Savio Kabugo.

    Nsibambi got his first 13 minutes into the game with the assist coming from Vincent Kayizzi.

    Bolaji Sakin scored the equalizer three minutes after the half hour mark as the two sides returned for the mandatory half time rest at one goal apiece.

    Nsibambi was the hero with yet another strike, 20 minutes from full time to give the Ugandan side their second victory at home after overcoming Tunisia’s Club Africain last month.

    KCCA is now second in group A as they have 6 points, the same as Morocco’s FUS Rabat who are better on goal difference.

    The next assignment for KCCA on the continent is their away tie to Rivers United on 20th June 2017 in Port Harcourt City.

    The FUFA Electoral Committee has on Friday afternoon released the list of candidates for various Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The Chairman of the FUFA Electoral Committee Sam Bakiika flanked by his Vice Chairman/Spokesperson Yusuf Awuye, Daphine Kyokushaba and Bernard Nasimanya declared the candidates during the special press conference at FUFA House.

    The FUFA Competitions Department confirms the date (adjusted) for the final of FUFA Uganda Cup 2016/17 in Green Light Stadium Arua (FUFA West Nile Region).

    The final shall be played on Thursday, 15th June 2017

    “The date was changed from 10th June 2017 because the national team would be playing on the same day away to the Cape Verde Islands. So to accommodate the interests of key stake holders, Thursday, 15th June 2017 was confirmed since KCCA shall be also playing away to Nigeria’s Rivers United on 20th June 2017” Ali Mwebe, the FUFA Competitions director noted.

    On Tuesday, KCCA played to a goal-less draw away to Express’ home ground in Wankulukuku and thus advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

    KCCA will now play Paidha Black Angels who eliminated Sadolin Paints 3-2 on aggregate after two legs.

    Paidha Black Angels won the first leg 2-0 away in Zombo before fighting hard to score a precious away goal in the 2-1 defeat during the return leg at Namboole.

    This year’s final will be played at the Betway Green Light stadium in Arua, the home of Onduparaka Football club as hosted by West Nile region.

    Vipers are the holders of this historic trophy whose competition has been played since 1971.

    Like last year, a charity cause has been also attached to the FUFA Uganda Cup.

    Members of the public are called upon to donate clothes and other usable items in support of the Arua Regional Remand Home.

    The first game on the day witnessed UCU Lady Cardinals out muscle the Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-1.

    Moureen Kinavudori and Millicent Mwanzi scored the goals for UCU in the 21st and 25th minutes respectively.

    Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga got their consolation through Resty Nanziri in the 53rd minute.
