    Uganda Cup 2016/17:

    1st leg Semi-final: Paidha Black Angels 2-0 Sadolin Paints in Paidha, Zombo District

    FUFA Big League side Paidha Black Angels has a 2 goal cushion heading into the return leg of the semi-finals with Sadolin Paints.

    On Saturday, Paidha Black Angels overcame Sadolin Paints 2-0 at the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo District.

    Emma Rubangakene (penalty) and Brian Okumu scored the goals that gave Paidha Black Angels the early advantage.

    The second leg will be played at Nelson Mandela National Stadium on 18th May 2017.

    The winner on aggregate will take on either KCCA FC or Express FC in the final to be played on 27th May at the Green Light Stadium in Arua found in West Nile Region.

    The dates for the KCCA-Express tie will be set by the FUFA Competitions Department.

    Paidha Black Angels eliminated the defending champions Vipers at the quarter final stage.

    The 2016/17 Kampala regional and 4th division leagues climax on Saturday, 13th May 2017 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

    First in the action will be the 4th division final between Luzira Soccer Academy and AK-47 at 1.30 p.m. The winner shall qualify to the Kampala regional league.

    Ntinda United topped Scorpion group as Mutungo were Cobra group winners with 45 and 43 points respectively.

    The second game shall kick off at 4 p.m between Mutungo and Ntinda United to determine who qualifies fromthe Kampala Regional league to the FUFA Big league next season.

    The FUFA Western Regional FA League play offs will be played at Kyamate stadium in Ntungamo District on Saturday 20 May 2017.

    Mbarara Football Club will take on Sharp in the early fixture before Runkugiri United battle Rushere FC.

    The final will be held on Tuesday, 22 May 2017 at the same play ground.

    According to Geoffrey Nuwagaba, the official in charge of the competitions department, a tie after the end of normal time, kicks from the penalty mark will be applied to determine the winner.

    The successful team shall represent Western region in the FUFA Big League for the season 2017/18.

    Each of the eight FUFA Regions will have a club qualify for next season in the FUFA Big League to replace the relegated sides.

    Competitive play-offs are expected as the national beach soccer league enters the closing stages.

    According to the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) secretariat, the complete quarter final line up was confirmed after the regular season league climax.

    The top four clubs from the two groups (Hurriken and Moonson) qualified for the quarter finals.

    Reigning champions of the national beach soccer league, Nkumba Select will lock horns with Kampala International University (KIU) during one of the line up games for the playoffs.

    Former champions, MUBS take on Stormers, YMCA plays Kabalagala Rangers and in the university derby St Lawrence University will play Muteesa 1 Royal University.

    UBSA Chairman, Deo Mutabazi believes the play-offs will come along with a lot of competition given the growth of the game.

    “More players have understood the game. If the regular season was such competitive and exciting, then the play-offs will be much better” Mutabazi told www.fufa.co.ug on Friday.

    The 2016/17 national league has been running since September 2016.

    In Uganda, beach soccer was first played in the year 2008. The game has grown through leaps and bounds with the first ever national league on the African continent played in Uganda.

    The Uganda Sand Cranes (national beach soccer team) was formulated after a competitive league gave birth to exhilarating talents.

    Uganda Cranes has since played in the Africa Cup of nations beach soccer qualifiers once.

    The FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, an ardent supporter of Beach soccer was this week appointed as the head of the CAF Beach soccer and futsal organizing committee, an achievement that UBSA has not taken lightly.

    “Eng. Moses Magogo’s appointment is not by accident. He has been at the fore front of promoting beach soccer in Uganda and the CECAFA region. We are so glad of his appointment which we believe will help the country and our region further to new scales and heights” Mutabazi notes.

    On top the aforementioned appointment, Eng. Magogo is also a co-opted CAF Executive Committee member and the Vice Chairman on the women football organizing committee.

    67th FIFA Congress concludes successfully in Manama, Bahrain

    Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA)’s 67th Congress has successfully ended in Manama City, Bahrain on Thursday.

    All the 211 member associations including Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) convened in the day long congress that followed a series of confederation meetings earlier in the week.

    Uganda was ably and heavily represented by the FUFA top brass officials led by President Eng. Moses Magogo, first Vice president Justus Mugisha and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson.

    In the earlier CAF Congress, the FUFA President reaped big following the appointment on the CAF Executive committee as a co-opted member and on two organizing committees as Chairperson on the Beach Soccer and Futsal committee as well as vice chairperson on the women football organizing committee.

    The supreme FIFA body a few important decisions to validate reports on FIFA’s activities in 2016, and, more importantly, to agree on key steps for the future of the organization.

    These included:

    • Approval of the detailed budget for 2018, with a total investment of USD 2.899 billion – 91% of which is allocated to football activities, chief among which is the organization of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
    • The ratification of the next stages of the bidding process to select the host(s) of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.
    • Election of the members of the Audit and Compliance Committee, the Governance Committee and the judicial bodies.

    Club Licensing: FUFA Organises Orientation workshop for promoted clubs

    The three (3) newly promoted clubs from the FUFA Big League to the Azam Uganda Premier League have undergone orientation on Club licensing at FUFA House on Wednesday morning ahead of next season.

    Maroons FC, Masavu FC and Mbarara City are the club that attended the exercise conducted by the FUFA Club Licensing Manager Ivan Kintu Bayige, FUFA Club Licensing Committee members Issa Magoola and Bernard Bainamani together with FUFA Competitions Department members.

    ‘Club Licensing is not a punishment or a way of harassing clubs. The exercise is done so that the clubs can have a clear view on what to expect in the top league as per FUFA’s requirements’ said Bayige.

    FUFA Deputy CEO Humphrey Mandu congratulated the clubs upon their qualification to the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    ‘FUFA President congratulates you for attaining the highest ranks in Ugandan football. Playing in the top flight is a dream for any football player in Uganda. It opens up your chances of being spotted by football scouts and Intermediaries’ said Mandu.

    ‘Club Licensing breeds highest levels of organization. The clubs that have followed the system have gone on to get results’ added Mandu.

    Beach Soccer: Tournament started in memory of Muwanguzi

    The Uganda Beach Soccer Association has started a tournament in memory of Samson Muwanguzi for his tremendous work towards the sport in the country.
    Muwanguzi, the owner of Lido Beach, Entebbe-host of the sport for its various tournaments and the National Beach Soccer League passed way in 2016.

    ‘Muwanguzi was committed to the development of the sport. From scratch to where we are right now, Muwanguzi played an important role towards the growth of beach soccer in Uganda. This tournament is held in memory of a man who sacrificed a lot for the sport’ said UBSA Chairman Deo Mutabazi during the draw conducted at FUFA House on Wednesday morning.

    The one day tournament to be played on a knock out basis will be held on Sunday 14th May, 2017 at Lido Beach Entebbe starting at 9am.
    Newly appointed CAF Futsal and Beach Soccer Organising Committee chairman Eng. Moses Magogo who is FUFA President is expected to grace the Memorial tournament that has attracted 18 teams.

    Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football club have successfully defended their Azam Uganda Premier League title with two matches to play.

    Tom Masiko and Geofrey Sserunkuma’s penalties in the 60th and 79th minutes respectively gave KCCA a 2-0 victory over Lweza at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in one of the six Azam Uganda Premier League matches played on Tuesday.

    The win pushed KCCA to 60 points, 8 ahead of second placed SC Villa Jogoo. Meaning that the Jogoos can not reach KCCA even if they win the rest of the games with KCCA faltering.

    Mike Mutebi’s KCCA thus earn their 12th league title in as many years, only four short of rivals, SC Villa Jogoo.

    In some of the other matches, Vipers whipped Onduparaka 4-1 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

    Erisa Ssekisambu grabbed a brace in the match.

    The other scorers were Brian Nkuubi and Tonny Odur. Meanwhile, the consolation goal from the visitors came from second half substitute Dickens Okwir.

    Kirinya-Jinja S.S humbled nemesis side Jinja Municipal Council Hippos 4-0 at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.

    George Ssenkaba, John Ssemazzi, Anthony Mayanja and James Otim were all on target for Abbey Bogere Kikomeko’s side who visit Lweza in their next away game.

    At the FUFA Technical center in Njeru, it was a six goal thriller when BUL hosted Sadolin Paints.

    BUL won 4-2 on the day with David Bagoole scoring the game opener inside the first two minutes for BUL.

    Villa Oromochan grabbed a brace before Fred Agandu got the other. Norman Ojik and Jamal Sijjali got the consolation goals for Sadolin Paints who also finished the game with a man less – after Dan Ekoyu’s red card.

    At the Bombo Military stadium, The Saints who are coached by Uganda Cranes assistant coach Moses Basena won 2-0 against visiting Soana.

    Veteran striker Godfrey Wakaza and Sulaiman Kibirige got the goals for the home side in the 15th and 27th minutes respectively.

    Ibrahim Kirya’s coached Uganda Revenue Authority won 3-1 away to Police at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium.

    Midfielder Shafiq Kagimu gave URA the lead on 43 minutes. Yasin Mugume then replied in the 58th minute.

    Kagimu got his second in the 87th minute before a late winner at the death from Peter Lwasa ensured the tax collectors smile home with the three points.

    The Express – Proline tie was aborted in the 47th minute after incidents of insecurity at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

    By the time of the match abandonment, Proline led 2-0 courtesy of Fahad Bayo’s brace.

    The league committee will pronounce themselves on the matter as soon as possible.

    Action resumes next Tuesday, 16th May 2017 with 8 games.

    FUFA Polls 2017: Election process for Players’ Delegates to FUFA Assembly

    The process to elect two (2) delegates to represent the Uganda Football Players Association (UFPA) to the FUFA Assembly got underway on Monday at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga.

    The two delegates will be part of the 88 delegate FUFA Assembly who will vote the FUFA Executive on 5th August, 2017 in Masindi.

    The CAF Congress that convened on Monday morning in Manama, Bahrain appointed FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo as a CAF Executive Committee Member. FA Presidents are in Bahrain for Thursday’s FIFA Congress.

    Magogo’s appointment was confirmed today on the same day Ghana’s Kwesi Nyantakyi and DRC’s Constant Omari Selemani were named 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively.

    Magogo becomes the first Ugandan to be named on the CAF Executive in the institution’s history.

    He will be on the CAF Executive Committee for the cycle 2017-2021.

    CAF was founded in 1957.

    A message from the FUFA President upon appointment

    ‘In recognition of the progress of football development in Uganda and contribution towards African football, I have been appointed a member of the CAF Executive Committee 2017 – 2021 and a member of the CAF Reforms Committee’ said Magogo.

    Nigerian FA Boss Amaju Pinnick was appointed Chairman for two committees- Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and media.

    Former Zambian international Kalusha Bwalya will head the CAF Technical and Development committee while Djibouti FA President Sulaiman Waberi is the new Referees committee chairman.

    Mbarara City joins Masavu, Maroons to the Azam Uganda Premier League

    Western Region’s Mbarara City Football Club completed the list of clubs that have been promoted sportingly to the Azam Uganda Premier League for the season 2017/18.

    Mbarara City overcame Masaka side Synergy 2-1 in the promotional final played on Sunday at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

    Towering striker Wol Makweth scored both Mbarara City’s goals as Solomon Okwalinga got the consolation for Synergy.

    Mbarara City joined Masavu (Rwenzori group winners) and Maroons (Elgon winners) as the other successful clubs to the top tier league for the season 2017/18.

    Maroons overcame Masavu 2-1 to be declared the 2016/17 FUFA Big league overall winner.

    Masavu took the lead through Joseph Nkabirwa in the 19th minute. Maroons made amends when regular season top scorer Patrick Kaddu headed home the equalizer in the 42nd minute.

    Solomon Walusimbi then volleyed home the winner three minutes later.

    SSL Logistics won the third edition of the FUFA Corporate tournament on Saturday held at the Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) in Bukoto.

    The heroes, also last year’s losing finalists to National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) this time round overcame Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) 1-0 in a closely contested final.

    Felix Muhamuza scored the lone goal in the final to hand his side their maiden title.

    CAA’s Ivan Sserubiri was awarded the Most Valuable player of the tournament award as Red Pepper’s Dorothy Nalukwago took the best female player’s gong.

    FUFA deputy CEO, Humprehey Mandu was the chief guest at the event.

    Flanked by Isaac Ssekaasi, brand manager of Nile Special, Mandu gave out the certificates of participation, medals, plaques to outstanding teams and individuals.

    A total of twenty corporate companies took part in the day long tournament whose main aim among others is to provide a plat form for the respective corporates to socialize by through networking, and provision of room to exercise the body.

    The tournament has been now held for the past three years with the previous editions organized at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

    FUFA Polls 2017: Regional exercise underway, as Hoima and Nebbi vote District Delegates

    The exercise for the ongoing FUFA elections continued this week with delegates voted into office to represent their respective Districts.

    The FUFA Electoral Committee finalized the exercise in Hoima and Nebbi Districts

    Here are the delegates and chairmen voted this week;

    Polling exercise at the FUFA Regional Football Associations (RFAs) underway

    All the FUFA 8 RFAs will take part in 4 sets of elections that started on 3rd May and will end on 20th May, 2017. The exercise started with the display of registers, nominations followed by declaration of the candidates to vie for the slots to the FUFA Assembly that votes the FUFA Executive.

    FUFA U-17 Juniors League: Soana Junior Team overcomes KCCA Soccer Academy to lift title

    FUFA U-17 Juniors  League:

    Final: KCCA Soccer Academy 0 (2) – 0 (4) Soana Junior Team

    Soana Junior Team are the champions of the 2016/17 FUFA U-17 Juniors league.

    To win the title, Soana Junior Team overcame KCCA Soccer Academy in a well contested final played at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.

    Soana Junior Team won 2-4 on post match penalties after normal time of the final match had ended goal-less on a wet turf.

    KCCA Soccer Academy had a chance to wrap up the game in normal time but team skipper Francis Jurua missed his kick from the penalty mark 4 minutes to full time.

    In the shoot out, Ivan Ssekide, Wilber Kabwama, Solomon Maiso and Emma Kizza were on target for Soana Junior Team.

    Ivan Eriga and Denis Kato were on target for KCCA Soccer Academy as Francis Jurua once again missed his kick as well as Sadat Anaku.

    FUFA first Vice President Justus Mugisha was the chief guest at the well attended and cheered final.

    Mugisha was accompanied by FUFA Technical committee chairman Hamid Juma, Chairperson of KCCA F.C Julius Raymond Kabugo.

    Individual Awards:

    KCCA’s Ivan Asaba was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. His teammate Sadat Anaku was top scorer with 27 goals.

    Anaku top scored all the other players in the Treble group as Fred Massa of Kirinya-Jinja S.S Junior Team was top scorer with 20 goals in Hat-trick group.

    Soana Soccer Academy’s Jamil Bukenya won the golden gloves as best goalkeeper of the tournament.

    This tournament was exclusively sponsored by FIFA who offered playing kits to all the 16 clubs in the league which included jerseys, boots, shin guards and sockings.

    The referees who officiated this league were also trained through the FUFA–FIFA Young referees’ programme.

    Each of the teams that took part was also facilitated with transport packages as well as a monthly remuneration for the respective head coach as salary.

    This was the third edition of the FUFA U-17 Juniors league. KJT and Vipers won the first and second editions respectively.

    FUFA Big League 2016/17:

    • 1st Play off match: Mbarara City 1 (5) – 1 (3) Ndejje University
    • 2nd Play off match: Synergy 3-1 Kira United

    Mbarara City will play Synergy in the promotional final of the 2016/17 FUFA Big League.

    Richard Makumbi’s Mbarara City recovered from a goal down to beat Ndejje University 5-3 on post match penalties.

    Normal time of the game had ended one goal apiece at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Thursday.

    Bernard Katetemera gave Ndejje University the lead before Brian Aheebwa got the equalizer to push the match into penalties.

    In the second play off game, Synergy overcame Kira United 3-1.

    Solomon Okwalinga got a brace in the match as Nicholas Kasozi scored the other.

    With twenty minutes left on the clock, Isaac Senoga was sent off for unsporting play to grant numerical advantage to Synergy.

    Emmanuel Obitre was on target for Kira United.

    Now, Mbarara City will take on Synergy in the promotional final on Sunday.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic was among the hundreds of spectators who graced the two matches.

    Last season, Kirinya-Jinja S.S overcame Onduparaka 2-0 to win the trophy and gold medals.

    This year’s final will be played at the Phillip Omondi stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.

    Uganda Cranes coach Micho reveals technical road map for Cameroon 2019

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has outlined the national team’s technical road map that will lead to the much desired 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon popularly tagged as the ‘Cameroon 2019 project’.

    Addressing the media during the press conference on Wednesday at FUFA House in Kampala, Micho appreciated the competitive nature of domestic two top leagues (Azam Uganda Premier league and the FUFA Big League) as a bench mark to sieving and offering competition to the rest of the players.

    In a special way, he lauded KCCA who progressed to the final stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

    He hinted on the full programme that has been designed upon which the national teams (AFCON, World Cup and CHAN) shall be based.

    With the Azam Uganda Premier League primed to conclude on 20th May 2017, Micho expects non-training for players to start almost immediately.

    We are happy about the competitiveness of the Uganda Premier League and the big league and best players from both will be assessed to count on in the 2018 CHAN qualifiers.

    We are looking on to 18 players whom we are monitoring their present shape and have already dispatched their invitations

    ‘We have sent invitations but questioning the amount of time played and level of fitness. We shall not build our team basing on sentiments of the past but on the ball truth of the present’ he added.

    Non residential training shall start on the 20th to 26th May 2017 before the final team to play at the Uganda Cranes regional tours in Fort Portal will be selected.

    After the national team tour on 27th May 2017, the team will regroup with residential training drills ahead of the Ethiopia and Senegal international friendly matches in early June days ahead of the Cape Verde match away.

    ‘We shall play Ethiopia in Addis Ababa and Senegal in Dakar as a preparatory mechanism for the Cape Verde match on artificial turf. We are taking the preparations seriously because we know what kind of opponents we shall take on’ he said in reference to Cape Verde.

    The final playoff of the 3rd edition for the FUFA U17 Juniors League 2016/17  will be held on Friday May 5, 2017 at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja.

    Treble group leaders KCCA Soccer Academy will tussle it out with Hat trick group leaders Soana Junior Team in a much anticipated final.

    This year’s edition comprised of junior teams of all the Azam Ugamda Premier League teams which was a requirement from the FUFA Club licensing Committee.

    According to the FUFA Youth Development Officer Bashir  Mutyaba, three rounds were played where the two group leaders will now play in the final.

    A bonus point was awarded to a team which won with a difference of two goals. A team walked away with four points instead of the usual three.

    ‘More goals have been scored this year because we awarded an extra point to a team which won with a difference of two goals’ noted Mutyaba .

    The FUFA Juniors League (U-17) has been played since 2015.

    The 2017 FUFA Corporate Tournament draws were held on Wednesday at the home of football in Uganda, Mengo – Kampala.

    FUFA Competititions director, Ali Mwebe conducted the well attended draws also attended by the representatives of 20 companies that have duly confirmed to take part as witnessed by the media.

    Mwebe who was flanked by the FUFA Marketing Director, Esther Musoke and the communications director Ahmed Hussein clarified on the formart of play and the tournament rules.

    Each team will play 4 matches as per the four groups set.

    That means, we shall have a total of 40 group stage matches.

    The top two teams per group will qualify to the quarter-finals followed by the semi-finals and finals.

    From the group stages to the semi-finals, it will be based on 7 a side format with the finals 11 aside.

    Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) play ground will host the day long tournament.

    FUFA Marketing Director Esther Musoke believes the tournament has continued to grow through leaps and bounds with the key objectives being attained.

    FUFA started this tournament to further create a plat form of reaching out to the partners and key stake holders in a way of socializing and networking. Also, the corporate tournament is another way of keeping fit for better health living.

    The day’s theme is ‘Football For Health’.
