St Noa Girls FC etched their name in Ugandan women’s football history by winning the 2024/25 FUFA Women Elite League, defeating Asubo Ladies 1-0 in a tightly contested final on Sunday, May 25, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
The decisive moment came from forward Silvia Kabene, who capitalized on a rare defensive mistake between Asubo Ladies’ goalkeeper Olga Lukia Bitiru and a teammate. A mix-up in the box saw the ball spill awkwardly, and Kabene was quickest to react, tapping home the only goal of the match to seal her side’s triumph.
St Noa’s victory capped an impressive season in which they dominated the Elizabeth Group, finishing unbeaten with 32 points and conceding just once. Their final opponents, Asubo Ladies, led the Victoria Group with 29 points and also impressed on their way to the title decider.
While both teams had already secured their place in the 2025/26 Finance Trust Women Super League, the final still carried the weight of silverware and prestige. For St Noa, this marked a particularly significant achievement, as it is their first-ever promotion to top-tier football under the leadership of coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera.
On the other hand, Asubo Ladies, led by coach Ibrahim Kibumba, made an impressive return to the Super League just one year after their relegation.
St Noa’s dominance this season was further reflected in the individual accolades awarded after the final. Match-winner Silvia Kabene was named the Most Valuable Player of the Season, while goalkeeper Lillian Nakirya received the Goalkeeper of the Season award for her outstanding performances throughout the campaign.
This victory adds another chapter to the remarkable year for St Noa Girls FC and their affiliated St. Noa Girls Secondary School. Earlier in May, the school team won the 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) girls’ football title, triumphing over Amus College in a penalty shootout. This came on the back of a strong showing at the 2025 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship in Ghana, where they claimed a silver medal after losing 2-0 to the hosts in the final.
In February, the school also triumphed in the 2025 Elite Secondary Schools Games, dethroning the regional powerhouse Kawempe Muslim in another impressive victory.
The stage is set for the Uganda U-17 national team — the Cubs — as they prepare to make their historic debut at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025.
Following the official draw, Uganda has been placed in Group K, where they will face global football powerhouses France, Chile, and Canada.
Uganda secured their spot in Qatar after a dramatic 2-1 playoff win over The Gambia in Morocco. James Bogere’s first-half brace sealed the result after Uganda had fallen behind in the opening minute. With this victory, the Cubs became the first Ugandan team in history to qualify for a FIFA World Cup at any level.
Uganda’s participation among the 48 participating nations reflects both the country’s growing football pedigree and the impact of FUFA’s continued investment in youth development.

The design of the new FUFA Uganda Premier League trophy is rooted in a profound and symbolic concept that mirrors the country’s unmatched beautiful features. The trophy draws inspiration from Uganda’s towering hills and majestic mountain ranges, with top flight football teams heavily represented with competition on their mind to rise above one another with the main aim to reach the highest point in Ugandan football.
The pinnacle of this Journey is 5.11 kilometres above sea level, symbolising the best team in the league, whose excellence mirrors the country’s highest peak-Margherita-the nickname of the FUFA Uganda Premier League Trophy.
The physical form of the trophy creatively captures the essence of this narrative. It is inspired by the shape of a football, stretched along a vertical axis to reflect the unmatched height of Uganda’s tallest mountain range. Horizontally, the ball is pulled across a top chord to form a crescent reminiscent of a young moon symbolising new beginnings and the kind of nature of competition. The body features hexagonal and half-pentagonal panels, maintaining a subtle homage to the classic football design.
This artistic body is mounted atop a semi-spherical base textured with dimpled ball patterns. Supporting the trophy are two carefully crafted tiers; the upper tier bears the engravings ‘FUFA’ and ‘Uganda Premier League’, signifying its official status, while the lower tier is a glossy silver base providing both visual contrast and structural stability. The entire ensemble rests on a flat stand, anchoring the piece with elegance and firmness.
The trunk of the trophy is adorned with a smooth texture. Vertical lines subtly dimple along the trunk, seamlessly connecting the top and bottom patches. These lines emulate the pattern of a stretched football, uniting symbolic narrative and aesthetic detail.
Crafted from fine silver, the trophy is a brilliant representation of prestige and achievement. It stands at a precise height of 511 millimetres, a deliberate reflection of the 5.11-kilometre journey, the apex of Ugandan football. Every design element, from form to finish, speaks to the ambition, beauty, and resilience of the game within the nation.
This trophy is not merely an award, it is a story cast in silver, celebrating those who strive to stand tallest in the beautiful game.
The FIFA Global Football Development Department under Training & Education focus of Talent Development Scheme has staged for the first time two concurrent elite youth coaches’ workshops for Goalkeeper coaches, and Youth Coaches at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday. The two high-level elite youth courses will run for five days – until Thursday May 23, 2025.
The two FIFA on-demand courses are were requested by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) from FIFA, to support the elite youth football development of the FUFA’s long-term Technical Master Plan (TMP) 2023–2030 that aims at nurturing elite youth football for both boys and girls.
These courses are therefore intended to enhance skills of coaches and also build local capacity in elite youth football development.
All coaches involved with national youth teams, along with selected youth coaches from FUFA’s eight regions are part of the 48 trainees (24 in goalkeeping and 24 in coaching) taking part in the workshop presided over by FIFA technocrats.
Some of the coaches undergoing the training include; Sheryl Botes (National team coach – women),Brian Ssenyondo (U-17 national team), Simeon Massa (U-17 national team), Ronald Ssali (U-17 national team), Billy Stephen Kiggundu (U-20 national team), Bashir Mutyaba (Elite football manager), Ayub Khalifa (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC).
Six FIFA top international Technical Experts are facilitating the courses led by the FIFA’s Lead of High-Performance Learning and Exchange Lead Callum James Christopher Irving from England.
Other FIFA experts in Njeru are; Christos Kanelleas from Greece, FIFA’s Training & Education Project Delivery Manager, Alejandro Alfredo Heredia from Argentina, Adel Amorouche from Belgium, Cameron Euston Cox from South Africa, and Simon Paul Jennings from the United Kingdom.
FUFA Executive Committee Member – Ronnie Kalema, who also doubles as the Executive Secretary of Football Development at FUFA, represented the FUFA President – Eng.Moses Magogo as the guest of honour at the opening ceremony. Mr. Kalema reiterated the vision of FUFA, talked in depth about the Technical Master Plan and also advised the participants to be open to learning.
“Our vision is to become the best footballing nation on and off the pitch in Africa, but you can’t aspire to be number one if you don’t do things that number ones do. That’s why I am not surprised that these courses are starting from Uganda,” he said.
“On the pitch, our aspiration is to win the FIFA World Cup, and off the pitch is to have the best coaches who can coach at the world cup even when we are not there. If the national football team of Uganda is not there, at least a goalkeeping coach or any other technical person should be there to represent the country.”
“But to achieve that vision we have emphasized that we have to develop the game of football in the entire country where we have eight regions, but we have to put into consideration that whatever we are developing has to be promoted to international standards.”
“What we have done as FUFA is to develop what we call a Technical Master Plan for seven years. We want every corner of this country to play football, and that’s mass football. So with mass football, we believe that every Ugandan should have a ball in their homes and the choice of playing is theirs as a family.”
“We also want to be very deliberate in talent identification, player pathway up to the professional level, and that’s why we have the elite side of the game.”
“However, we are also aware that as we try to develop the players, those players have to find a professional environment – and those are the clubs. And that’s why we have a professional football manager – Brian to work with the clubs to create a professional environment that will help these coaches and players perform better.”
“To the participants, here we are. We have FIFA, they have the knowledge, so we need to pick it. Our role as FUFA is to talk to FIFA to send us experts and whenever they’re here we need to tap into whatever knowledge they have so that tomorrow we are the agents of change. If we don’t do that then we can never achieve our mission.”
“Having said all that, I want to open up these courses and pray that they are very successful.”

The new FUFA Women Super League trophy has made its way to the Parliament of Uganda, where it was warmly received on Monday 19th May 2025 by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, in her chambers.
As part of its tour to visit influential Ugandan women, the FUFA delegation paid a courtesy call to the Speaker, a passionate advocate for women’s football. Notably, the Speaker is a strong supporter of Kampala Queens FC, which competes in the FUFA Women Super League and owner of Bukedea Comprehensive School, a rising powerhouse in girls’ football.
The FUFA delegation that met with the Speaker at her chambers was led by FUFA’s 3rd Vice President, Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi. The delegation included FUFA EXCOM member Rogers Mulindwa, Communications Director Ahmed Hussein, safety and security expert Harriet Nakimbugwe (a CAF trainee), and former league champions Zaina Namulelme (formely with Kampala Queens but now with Makerere University Ladies), Catherine Nakiridde (UCU Lady Cardinals FC), and Lydia Nyandera (Lady Doves FC).
The FUFA 3rd Vice President praised the Rt Hon Speaker for her significant contributions to sports in Uganda, saying;
‘When it comes to football, you do not just speak about it, you live it. You are a custodian of the game, cheering, sponsoring, attending, believing and investing. You have built a stadium in Bukedea that is more than just concrete and grass as it is a symbol of hope and heritage. By gifting your people a sanctuary for sports, you’ve etched your name into Ugandan football history.
The Speaker of Parliament thanked FUFA for supporting women football.
‘I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you to the Parliament of Uganda. Thank you for choosing me to be part of this special initiative. I am deeply humbled to be selected alongside other women who share my passion for football and empowering the girl child. The girl child is a vital part of our community and the world at large, her potential is limitless, and I am passionate about supporting and uplifting her’
The Speaker added; ‘I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to FUFA for championing women’s football, a vital step towards exclusivity in the sport. We have come a long way from a time when football was exclusively for men. Today, girls proudly take to the pitch, showcasing their talent and proving that with determination, they can achieve great things. Not everyone follows the traditional path, and for those with a gift for sports, we should provide every opportunity to thrive. Personally, I find women’s football incredibly inspiring. When these talented girls succeed, they can transform their lives and those of their families. As leaders, our role is to support and nurture their potential. In Uganda’s Parliament, we have made strides in promoting sports, including football for both boys and girls. I urge FUFA to continue fostering the growth of women’s football, empowering these remarkable athletes to reach new heights’
I would love to see this trophy tour the entire country. As women in leadership positions, it’s crucial for us to mentor and inspire young girls. What FUFA is doing is commendable by promoting women’s football, you’re not only showcasing talent but also creating role models for girls nationwide. Many talented young girls lack inspiration, so I pledge my office’s support for your initiative. Please take this trophy across the country, sharing the message that football is a platform for them to shine. This is a powerful way to empower the girl child and unlock her potential.’
‘Your achievements make us incredibly proud, showcasing the immense talent and potential of girls in football often rivaling and even surpassing that of their male counterparts. I urge you to share this message with the world: girls’ football is a rapidly growing sport, and as government officials, we pledge our continued support to help you thrive.’
The speaker went on to thank the leadership of FUFA under President Hon Magogo Moses Hassim for the relentless efforts to develop and promote women football in the country.
I would like to extend my gratitude to FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim for his outstanding efforts in developing football, particularly in supporting and promoting women’s football. His passion for the cause is truly commendable.’
Finally the Speaker advised the players to work hard with determination consistently to achieve their dreams.
‘To all the young girls out there, I want to say that achieving your goals requires determination, consistency, and a clear dream. Once you have a vision, work tirelessly towards it, even in the face of challenges. Consistency is key don’t let setbacks discourage you. Keep pushing forward, and never give up until you reach your aspirations.’
The FUFA Women Super League trophy tour will culminate in a state visit on Thursday, May 22, 2025, where it will be officially welcomed by the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.
Kawempe Muslim stunned Kampala Queens on Saturday to hand them their first loss of the season with a 2-1 loss at the MTN Omondi stadium putting on hold their title celebrations. Agnes Nabukenya’s scored in either half to give Kawempe Muslim a very precious win in what was more of a battle of egos and pride. Muduwa Peace scored for the hosts.
After an unsuccessful title defence this was a perfect consolation for the the Ayub Kiyingi coached side beating the champions in waiting and ending their unbeaten run at their own backyard. The result means that the Kawempe cut the point gap to only 6 with 2 games left.
At the Prisons grounds in Luzira Amus College WFC failed to find its way around a strong She Maroons side and ended up settling for a 1-all draw. They remain in 3rd place on 35 points, 6 behind second placed Kawempe Muslim.
At the Makerere University play grounds, Lady Doves missed a chance to leap frog Amus College into the 3rd place when failed to beat the Makerere University Ladies team in a game that goalless.
The relegation battle between Olila HS WFC and Tooro Queens FC will go into the final 2 match days of the FUFA Women Super season with the two clubs still fighting to beat the drop.
Uganda Martyrs Ladies 1-0 win against Olila HS WFC means they go level on 26 points with the Makerere University ladies FC but remain in 7th position courtesy of a smaller goal difference. On the other hand the loss means the Soroti side’s advantage over 11th placed Tooro Queens is cut by one point with just two games to go. Olila has 18 points against Tooro’s 16.
In Jinja, Jessica Namanda and Kevin Nakacwa found the net to hand She Corporate victory against Rines SS WFC. The result means that She Corporate remains 5th on 27 points whereas Riness remains in 9th place 22 points.
The FIFA Global Football Development Division, under its flagship Talent Development Scheme (TDS) whose guiding pillars are Find, Train, and Play, is once again lending its full support to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in the implementation of its Technical Master Plan (TMP) 2023–2030, aimed at nurturing elite youth football for both boys and girls.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, two high-level courses focusing on elite youth coaching and elite youth goalkeeping are set to take place at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru from 18th to 22nd May 2025. A total of 48 participants—24 in goalkeeping and 24 in coaching—will benefit from the expert-led sessions.
Leading the mission is Christos Kanelleas from Greece, FIFA’s Training & Education Project Delivery Manager under the High Performance Unit. He is heading a delegation of six internationally acclaimed FIFA Experts who will deliver the intensive programme. The expert team includes Callum James Christopher Irving and Simon Paul Jennings from the United Kingdom, Alejandro Alfredo Heredia from Argentina, Cameron Euston Cox from South Africa, and Adel Amorouche from Belgium.
Under the structured FUFA Technical Master Plan, all initiatives are linked in a systematic chain. Earlier in the project, 311 FUFA Grade 4 Football Scouts were trained and strategically placed across Uganda’s districts. Their efforts have led to the identification of 1,385 talented players—1,015 boys and 370 girls—recorded in FUFA’s Talent ID Online System.
On Wednesday, 14th May 2025, a six-member FUFA Technical Team arrived in the Northern Region at Otino Wa Comprehensive SS to conduct a two-day scouting trial. This exercise aims to assess 324 talented boys and girls profiled by FUFA’s G4 Scouts from across the region. The most promising players will advance to elite training programmes under the Regional Schools of Excellence and other development initiatives, including the National Academy.
“When you examine the above talent identification and development environment being propagated under the TMP and well supported by FIFA TDS, the two courses in elite youth coaching and elite youth goalkeeping have definitely come at the perfect time. After identification, what follows is development—and coaches are going to be sharpened by the visiting FIFA experts,” said Ali Mwebe, FUFA Football Development Director.
All coaches involved with national youth teams for both boys and girls, along with selected youth coaches from FUFA’s eight regions, have been invited to participate. Upon successful completion of the course, these coaches are expected to take up key roles within various elite youth development centres across the country.
She Corporate FC – Rines SS WFC, Kyabazinga Stadium
Kawempe Muslims’ title defence hopes have almost but faded and will seemingly be playing for pride when they visit table leaders Kampala Queens who have a 9 point advantage with just 3 games to go this Saturday at the MTN Omondi stadium Lugogo.
Anything less than three points would hand the ‘Queens of Soccer’ their second title in 3 years and seal off Kawempe’s defence remaining with only the FUFA Women’s Cup as hope for silverware. With 14 wins and 5 draws Kampala Queens are enjoying a having a dream season that may end in an unbeaten run if they were to avoid defeat in their last 3 fixtures (kawempe inclusive) a feat no team has achieved in the league format.
Olila HS WFC will play against Uganda Martyrs ladies hoping for the best result to improve their chances of playing in the top tier women league next season. The Soroti based side sits in 10th place with 18 points and only 3 above 11th placed Tooro Queens who occupy the last relegation spot to the FUFA Women Elite league.
The ‘Kiddawalime ladies’ on the other hand in 7th place with 23 points they are just one point above 8th placed Rines SS WFC and 9th placed She Maroons who are tied on 22 points. A win on the other hand could see them leapfrog 6th placed She Corporates on 24 points and 5th placed Makerere University WFC with 25 points if they both fail to win their respective games.
She Maroons hosts 3rd placed Amus College WFC who want to close gap on 2nd placed Kawempe Muslim in case they falter against the table leaders. Amus with 34 points is 4 less of Kawempe’s 38.
On Sunday, She Corporates will be home to Rines SS WFC in another contest for places on the table whereas 4th placed Lady Doves FC who are one point behind Amus College WFC want to keep pace with the leading pack if they can get maximum points off their hosts at the Makerere University grounds.

The Nnaabagereka of Buganda Kingdom, Sylvia Nagginda, has welcomed and blessed the new FUFA Women Super League trophy as part of its tour to visit influential women in the country.
The trophy, standing at 4.55m tall, was presented to Her Royal Highness by former league champions Catherine Nakiridde of UCU Lady Cardinals FC and Lydia Nyandera of Lady Doves FC at the Kabaka’s Palace in Mengo.
The event coincided with the launch of the Ttabamiruka W’abakyala 2025 ceremony, themed ‘Twongere obuwagizi mu mirimu gy’abakyala olw’enkulakulana’ (“Let’s increase support for women’s projects for development”).
The FUFA delegation, led by 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and Deputy Executive Secretary Rogers Mulindwa, was warmly received by the hosts.
Nnaabagereka thanked FUFA for promoting women’s football, highlighting the numerous benefits of sports to the nation and its people. She emphasised the importance of sports in improving brain function, mental health, discipline and organisation among children and its potential to transform economies.
‘I want to start by thanking FUFA and our daughters who play football for lifting our flag to international standards. Sport generally is very important that is why back in the day every school had to have a pitch, sports/physical education as a subject and teachers dedicated to teaching sport as a must. Today some schools may not have pitches but the importance of sports among the youth cannot be undermined.’ stated Nnaabagereka.
The Nnaabagereka concluded by stressing the need for committed efforts and investment in sports, given its lucrative nature globally.
‘Sports trains children to be organized and disciplined and if taken serious through committed efforts and investment, sport has the ability to transform economies because it is a very lucrative industry world over.’ noted Nnaabagereka.
