    Moses Waiswa scored on his debut as Uganda Cranes played to a one all draw with Kenya Harambee Stars during the international friendly match played at the Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on Thursday.

    The Vipers’ player cancelled a first half goal from Michael Olunga as the two traditional rivals shared the spoils.

    The match was watched by a good number of Ugandans including the FUFA President, Eng Moses Magogo and some FUFA delegates.

    Uganda Cranes will return later on Thursday night ahead of a charity match with the France Military team at Namboole stadium.

    This was the 77th meeting between the two sister countries. There are now 23 draws, 22 wins for Kenya and Uganda remains ahead with 32.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has described the international friendly match against Kenya as a new dawn for the team.

    Micho told www.fufa.co.ug that the international friendly which will be played in Machakos is indeed a new beginning for the national team ahead of the future engagements.

    This international match against Kenya and the others in March are the only games where we can test, try and experiment players with the intention to widen the pool of players ahead of the June AFCON qualifier against Cape Verde in Praia, the July/August CHAN 2018 qualifiers and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers of August/ September

    Since arriving in Kenya on Tuesday morning, the Uganda Cranes checked in at Gelian Hotel.

    They had two training sessions with one change of Sc Villa Jogoo’s Martin Kizza replacing Joseph Ochaya of KCCA FC.

    The two CECAFA rivals will face off in a friendly match on Thursday at Machakos stadium in Nairobi. Cranes will retrun home to play a charity match against Frane Military team on Saturday at Namboole stadium.

  • FUFA launches campaign for new national team jersey, 5M at stake for best design

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially launched the campaign to usher in a new design for the national teams’ jerseys.

    FUFA President Eng.Moses Magogo launched the campaign during the weekly press conference held on Wednesday morning at the Federation’s headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.

      ‘Like we communicated earlier, today is the occasion where the historic jersey that the Cranes used in the AFCON qualification campaign of 2015 and 2017 and in AFCON finals in Gabon will be retired as as away of honour’ said the FUFA President.

      The campaign will be open to the general public to summit their entries for a month starting today (22nd March 2017) to 22nd April.

      ‘We open a campaign whereby for one month starting today  will be running for any Ugandan, or group of Ugandans or organisation that is interested in coming up with the new design’ he indicated.

      The entries will be open in three categories including the  Uganda Cranes (men), Crested Cranes (women) and the other subsequent national teams including the Sand Cranes (national beach soccer team), Futsal, Kobs (U23), Hippos (U20) and Cubs (U17).

      The jersey colours for Uganda Cranes will  be 3 sets;

    Set 1 Predominantly red (home kit),

    Set 2: Predominantly yellow (home Kit)

    Set 3: Predominantly white for away games.

    The jersey colours for Uganda National women team-Crested Cranes will be 3 sets ;

    Set 1 Predominantly red (home kit),

    Set 2: Predominantly yellow (home Kit)

      ‘Unlike previously where all the national teams have been using the same design, this time round the Uganda Cranes and Crested cranes jerseys will be different in design while the other  subsequent teams will also have another design but differnet shades’ added Magogo.

      The overall winner with all the nine (9) designs will be announced by a panel set up by FUFA and will walk away with a cash prize of UGX 5 million shillings following the terms and conditions in place. The winner will also watch Uganda Cranes games at home free for one year.

    Ambassador of France to Uganda hails FUFA, Cranes

    The Embassy of France in Uganda took a decision to celebrate the long-term friendship that unites both countries by a special week with a series of activities and particular moments.

    The celebrations dubbed the Uganda-France friendship week to mark the Francophone Day started on 18th March and will end on 25th March with a football match.

    The event that will climax the celebrations will be the game between Uganda Cranes and the France Military team on Saturday at Mandela National stadium.

    Her Excellency, Stephanie Rivoal, the Ambassador of France to Uganda believes football is one of the ways that can be used to bolster the bilateral relations between the two countries.

    ‘It is my first time to visist FUFA houseand I am impressed with what i have seen. Mr. President thank you for the good work and image I am seeing here. Uganda is coming to the face of world football after the participation at AFCON in Gabon and we thought the friendly game will be able to bolster the relations between Uganda and France’ she said in a press briefing held at FUFA house on Wednesday morning.

    ‘The game between Uganda Cranes and the France Military team could be the foundation of very many things that may come in future and therefore I call upon the public to embrace this chance’ she added.

    ‘The France military team is very good and expect a tough game. We know Uganda Cranes is equally a good side fresh from Gabon but the visitors will put up a good show on Saturday’ added the Ambassador.

    The Leader of Delegation-France Military team Lt. Col. Eric Ponsot sent out a diplomatic warning to Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and his players.

    ‘We are not here to relax. We are playing for a charity but expect a competitive match on saturday. I hope the game ends 2-1 and not by a big score’ said Ponsot.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo thanked the Ambassador for the great initiative and indicated this is a great opportunity for Ugandan football.

    ‘It is an honour for us to have such a great delegation of this magnitude partnering with FUFA. We are aware of the fact that France has been a platform for many African footballers to showcase their talent including our very own, the late Majid Musisi who played at Rennes in the 1990s; stated FUFA President.

    ‘So as FUFA, we are not taking this partnership lightly because we believe it can be important in the years to come’ added added Magogo.

    Fans will pay UGX 5,000 and 20,000 as entrance fee and all the proceeds will be used to buy sports equipment for 5 schools that include Kibuli SS, Lubiri SS, Kisasi Primary school.

    FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson indicated that the French Embassy’s programme of giving back to the community coincides with the Federation’s strategy to engage the public through football.

    Preparations to have successful Uganda – France week celebrations have yielded fruitful dividends.

    Already, a couple of activities are underway that will climax with a football match between the Uganda Cranes and the French Military team at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday.

    The French team arrived in the country on Monday night and will conduct the first session on Tuesday at Namboole starting 4pm.

    Players will link up on Monday evening and spend a night together at Sky Hotel, Nalya for bonding at technical purposes before flying out on Tuesday morning at 9 O’clock aboard Kenya Airways.

    The foreign based players will link up in Nairobi from their respective clubs and join the contingent that will have flown from Entebbe International Airport.

    The two CECAFA rivals will face off in a friendly match on Thursday at Machakos stadium in Nairobi.

    Since the AFCON 2017 tournament in Gabon, the Uganda Cranes has resumed action with a domestic tour of Eastern Uganda code named ‘Uganda Cranes Regional Tours 2017’.

    It was a convincing 3-0 result for the national side past a select side from Eastern Uganda at the Kamuli Park Municipal Stadium on Sunday evening.

    Proline striker Nelson Senkatuka volleyed home the opener after 11 minutes.

    SC Villa’s winger Martin Kiiza doubled the advantage with a well struck free-kick past goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo before team captain Emmanuel Okwi grabbed the third on the day.

    Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic was impressed by the overall performance on the day particularly from the first half.

    Such matches have always helped us to prepare for future engagements and as well, bring the stars to the fans in their own localities.

    Eng. Magogo was flanked by many of the Eastern region delegates and other accompanying FUFA officials.

    Representatives from the tour sponsors, Nile Breweries Limited (under the brand Nile Special and Airtel Uganda Limited) also graced the well attended match.

    The regional tours started three years ago with the main intention of taking the Uganda Cranes closely to local communities and fans in particular.

    CAF Confederation Cup: Hard fighting Vipers stopped by Platinum Stars

    Platinum Stars 3-1 Vipers (Platinum Stars progress 3-2 on aggregate)

    South African side Platinum Stars required two penalties, both converted by goalie Mzimela Mbogeni as the home side overcame Uganda’s Vipers 3-1 at the Royal Bafokeng stadium on Saturday night in the CAF Confederation cup.

    Ndumiso Mabena scored the other goal as striker Milton Karisa got one back for the visitors.

    Karisa had also scored in the first leg played at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende last week.

    Platinum Stars’ Robert N’gambi was red carded for two bookable offences.

    Vipers technical department called for the only change to the starting eleven that had started the game a week ago in Uganda.

    Left back Aggrey Madoi who had missed the first leg replaced Dan Birikwalira in the starting line up for the reigning FUFA Uganda Cup champions.

    The South Africans thus qualify 3-2 on aggregate having lost the first leg in Uganda.

    Uganda Cranes tour of Eastern region 2017:

    Ahead of the 2017 Uganda Cranes regional tours, the national team has conducted their first session at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Friday evening.

    The two hour session was conducted by head coach, Milutin Sredejovic together with his assistants Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba (goalkeeping coach) as the national teams’ officer Patrick Ntege and Dr. Ronald Kisolo closely followed the proceedings from the sidelines.

    20 players of the summoned 23 turned up for training.

    Micho was impressed by the performance of the players at the session.

    “This is the start of the long preparations for CHAN 2018, AFCON 2019 and a continuation of FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers. I am impressed by day’s training. Continue to give your best at all times” Micho urged the players.

    This follows the official launch at FUFA House on Wednesday.

    Uganda Cranes will play Eastern region select team this Sunday at Kamuli town council main play ground.

    The KCCA FC and Vipers players were excluded because of the CAF club engagements but shall be involved in the due course.

    The team departs on Saturday morning. Emma Okwi is team captain and he will be deputized by Savio Kabugo.

    The regional tours are meant to take the national team closer to the populous in a way of garnering support for the team.

    The tours are jointly sponsored by Uganda Cranes main sponsor Airtel Uganda Limited and partner Nile Breweries Limited under the flagship brand, Nile Special.

    UGANDA CRANES REGIONAL TOURS:

    The Eastern region team to face Uganda Cranes in the national regional tours has been named.

    The team is coached by current Kirinya-Jinja S.S head coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko.

    The national regional tours 2017 were officially launched at FUFA House on Wednesday.

    These tours have been held since 2014, traversing the entire country with the main objective among others taking the national team closer to the masses.

    The regional tours are jointly sponsored by Nile Breweries Limited and Airtel Uganda as coordinated by Kibo Media.

    CAF Elections: Ahmad is new President of African football

    Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar Football Association is the new President of Confederation of African football after polling 34 votes against incumbent Issa Hayatou’s 20.

    The 39th CAF General Assembly was held in Addis Ababa on Thursday 16th March.

    Shortly after winning the polls; Ahmad Ahmad posted on his twitter handle a message;

    ‘Under the emotion. I thank all those who believed in the change. Thanks to you who were always backing me. We did it. This victory is ours’

    FUFA President congratulated Ahmad Ahmad.

    ‘We believe in his football ideas and Africa will benefit alot from him. Africa will give him the support he needs to make sure we reach greater heights globally. There were strides made during the reign of Mr. Issa Hayatou and he definitely played a key role in the development of the game on the continent’ said Eng. Moses Magogo.

    Meanwile Magogo on his maiden attempt at a becoming a CAF Excom member, saw Suleiman Hassan Waberi of Djibouti take the position to represent the Central East Zone at the top. It is the first time for a Ugandan to contest for a position on the CAF Executive Committee.

    FUFA Women’s Cup: Quarter finals draw conducted

    The draws for the 2017 quarter finals of the inaugural FUFA Women’s Cup were held on Wednesday at FUFA House, Mengo in Kampala.

    Ali Mwebe, the FUFA Competitions Director supervised the draws that witnessed Western United and Olila High school the seeded teams because of geographical location.

    ‘We seeded Western United and Olila High because of geographical location so the two clubs could not face off at the quarter final stage’ Mwebe explained.

    Western United was drawn first to host UCU Lady Cardinals in Mbarare, Gafford Ladies face She Corporate, Mutesa 1 Royal University takes on Kawempe Muslim as Taggy High entertains Olila High in Entebbe at Katabi Gombolola play ground.

    The quarter finals are expected to be played on the weekend of 25th and 26th March 2017.

    The finals of this year’s women cup will take place in Busia.

    The FUFA Uganda Cup round of 16 draws were held on Wednesday at FUFA House in Mengo.

    Cup holders Vipers will play at home to Buganda regional side, Kyetume as last year’s losing finalists Onduparaka will also enjoy playing infront of their passionate fans after being handed a tie to play Water FC at the Green Light stadium.

    FUFA also announced that there will be a Corporate Social Responsibity Activity once again attahced to this year’s Uganda cup.

    ‘We have enaged the Chairman of West Nile Region Football Association Brahan Nasur and sahred ideas on the project. We shall agree on the beneficiaries of the collections. We shall again collect clothes from the public and later donate them to the recipients at the end of the Uganda cup final’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein

    Uganda Cranes tour of Eastern region 2017:

    The 2017 Uganda Cranes regional tours have been officially launched at FUFA House on Wednesday.

    Uganda Cranes will play Eastern region select team this Sunday.
    Assistant coach, Moses Basena represented head coach Milutin Sredojevic at the release of the announcement of the squad.

    Basena disclosed to the media a team of 23 players summoned and also revealed the detailed technical programme.

    ‘First of all, I thank the media and fans who supported our team in Gabon. Thank you for every effort’ Basena who also lauded KCCA FC and Vipers’ display in the ongoing CAF Club tournaments noted.

    Bobkins Kibirige of Kibo Media-regional tour event managers appreciated the national team sponsors (Airtel Uganda Limited and Nile Special) for the continued support towards the programme.

    ‘We have revamped the tour – obligation for sponsors of football – Airtel Uganda and Nile Special. It is a pleasure working with FUFA. We pledge to work with the federation to uplift the standard of the game’ noted Kibirige.

    The KCCA FC and Vipers players have been excluded because of the CAF club engagements but shall be involved in the due course.

    The team shall train on Friday evening at Namboole and depart on Saturday morning. Emma Okwi has been named captained and will be deputised by Savio Kabugo.

    FUFA CORPORATE TOURNAMENT 2017

    3rd edition – 29th April – At Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo

    The third edition of the FUFA Corporate Tournament (FTC) has been launched on Wednesday.

    This was during the weekly press conference at the FUFA House House in Mengo, Kampala.

    FUFA Marketing director Esther Musoke highlighted to the media the essence of this annual football tournament.

    We shall hold the 3rd edition of the FUFA Corporate Tournament under the theme; ‘Football for health’ with the main aim among others intended to promote close partnerships in the corporate world.

    Registration is Ug.shs 1.5M per team of 17 players and three officials.

    The Corporate companies shall be allowed to conduct their own activations at Lugogo for the period of the tournament.

    15 corporate companies have already confirmed to take part.

    The tournament guidelines will be passed on accordinglyto the teams. Deadine for registartion is 17th April.

    National Water and Sewerage Corporation is the defending champion.

    FUFA Competitions Department will conduct the draw for the FUFA Uganda Cup and FUFA Women’s Cup on Wednesday (10am) at FUFA House during teh weekly press conference. The draw for men is for teams at the round of 16 while the FUFA Wowmen’s Cup is at the Quarterfinals Stage.

    THe FUFA Women’s Cup is being played for the first time while the FUFA Uganda Cup has Vipers are the holders.

    The final of the FUFA Women’s cup will be hosted in Busia while Arua won the rights for the FUFA Uganda Cup final.

    FUFA Competitions Director Ali Mwebe and Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein will guide with the process of the draw.

    Sports Club Villa Jogoo for the first time this season climbed aloft the log of the Azam Uganda Premier League following the 2-0 victory against The Saints at the Champions stadium in Mwererwe.

    Emmanuel Okwi and John Adriko got the goals for Wasswa Bbosa’s coached side away from home.

    SC Villa Jogoo now has 44 points from 22 games, four matches better of second placed KCCA F.C.

    In Jinja, BUL continued their fight against relegation with a well worked out 2-0 home win past visiting Bright Stars at the Kakindu stadium.

    First half substitute Robert Achema scored a double, the first a penalty and the second a well tapped effort off David Bagoole’s cut back.

    Both of BUL’s goals came in the second stanza of the game.

    A 10 man Sadolin Paints side was held to a goal-less draw by Lweza at the Mandela National Stadium.

    Ronald Lukungu was red carded on the half hour mark as the home side with a man less for almost 60 minutes.

    At the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, home club Express registered a 4-3 victory past Police in a 7 goals thriller.

    Mahad Kakooza, Allan Kyambadde (brace) and Simon Sserunkuma were on target for Matia Lule’s charges, also baptized as the ‘Red Eagles’ time immemorial.

    Michale Birungi’s double and a late Hood Kaweesa’s late goal gave the fans something to cheer for the moment and leave crucial talking points heading to match day 23 that comes on 28th March 2017.

    Soana and Jinja Municipal Council Hippos settled for a one all stalemate at the Kavumba Recreational stadium.

    Abdulraham Ajab gave the Hippos the lead on 11 minutes but Paddy Muhumuza, a January mid season signing for Soana had other ideas altogether with a quick equalizer three minutes later.

    JMC Hippos remains the only side yet to earn maximum points this entire season.
