Following a successful start of the Azam Uganda Premier League last Friday with eight match day fixtures, action continues once again on Tuesday with round two.

On Friday, there were eight goals scored in eight outings with just two victories registered.

The menu of Tuesday looks enticing more especially that clubs have had a feel of the action already.

Defending champions, KCCA makes the short trip to Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku for a date against Lweza.

KCCA’s prime target is to make it two out of two having defeated Jinja Municipal Council Hippos 2-1 on match day one.

Lweza on the other hand wants to make quick amends having fallen to the Red Eagles – Express 2-1 in the Wankulukuku derby.

The onus and goal scoring expectations for team KCCA will once against be on veteran center forward Geofrey Sserunkuma accompanied by youngsters Derrick Nsibambi and Paul Mucureezi.

Lweza looks forward to the goal scoring form of Karim Ndugwa, who managed to score the first goal of the new season.

Elsewhere, Vipers host Police at Nakivubo stadium. Both clubs drew in the last game.

Vipers recovered to score against Bright Stars as Police held 16 time record league winners, Sports Club Villa Jogoo at Kavumba stadium.

Striker Tonny Odur, fresh from Lebanon is expected to partner Musa Esenu for the much needed goals.

Meanwhile, Police will hope that veterans Peter Senyonjo and Anthony Bongole rediscover their potent weapons of old – running over the opposition and scoring.

In Jinja, the first set of derbies gets underway when Jinja Municipal Council Hippos entertains new entrants Kirinya-Jinja S.S.

The two clubs are handled by great friends – Alex Isabirye (at Kirinya-Jinja S.S) and James Odoch (JMC), both former Uganda Cranes internationals who understand each other well.

James Otim, new signing Ibrahim Kazindula and Mark Bamukyaaye are Kirinya-Jinja S.S’ sure cards.

JMC will look to the sharpness of striker Ajab Rajab Abdulrahaman, winger Viane Ssekajugo, a new signing and last season’s best defender Musa Walangalira for inspiration in the striking, midfield and defense departments respectively.

Uganda Revenue Authority hosts Bul at the Mehta stadium in Lugazi whilst Express under Alex Gitta as head coach travels to the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo to play Proline.

Gitta targets another win after defeating Lweza 2-1 in the opener.

“I want maximum points over Proline” Gitta, whose club is captained by Mike Mutyaba revealed his target ahead of the Tuesday affair.

In the live game on Azam T.V, Lato Milk and Fero Mobile sponsored Bright Stars host crowd pullers, Betway funded Onduparaka FC at the Champions stadium.

Bright Stars is coached by Fred Kajoba, Uganda Cranes goalkeeping coach and Onduparaka is coached by Leo Adraa.

The Arua club has two Uganda U-20 stars Emmanuel Olinga (midfielder) and Muhammed Shaban (striker) whose presence always dictates the terms in the teams they play for.

Bright Stars looks forward to the oozing experience of Fred Segujja, Baker Lukooya and goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato for magic at home.

    May the best clubs win.

Lawrence Ssonko, a former student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono headed home Mikidadi Ssenyonga’s curling corner kick in the 20th minute to give Gomba, who has won this event a record three times in the lead.

There were no further goals from either sides and the day’s referee, Brian Miiro Nsubuga, a FIFA referee called for penalties straight away to determine the winner.

In the tense but interesting shoot out, Buddu who lost 5-0 to Singo in the 2015 edition, this time round won 5-4 in penalties.

Arnold Sembuya, Geliga Atendele, captain Shakidu Mbaziira, Steven Muwawo and Robert Mukongottya all scored Buddu.

However, Marida Kuteesa had missed his kick from the penalty spot.

On the other hand, enterprising midfielder Ivan Sserubiri, Nicholas Kabonge, Edward Satro Mayanja, Joshua Kalisa and Ali Hassan Luboyera successfully converted for Gomba.

Unfortunately, Ponsiano Segonja and Mikadadi Ssenyonga watched on in disbelief as they blasted wide their kicks.

“FUFA remains committed to support football from the grassroot level with tournaments such as the Masaza cup in all Kingdoms of the country” Eng. Magogo stated in an earlier interview.

Grassroot tournaments are famous for breeding raw talents that are later assimilated into the normal football system from the 5th division through to the FUFA Big league and the Azam Uganda Premier League and finally to the national teams (Junior teams and the senior national side – Uganda Cranes).

Nile Special launches fans campaign in support of Uganda Cranes

INTERNATIONAL BUILD UP MATCH: 30TH AUG 2016 – Uganda Cranes Vs Kenya

AFCON GROUP D QUALIFIER: 3RD SEPT 2016 – Uganda Cranes Vs Comoros

Uganda Cranes’ official beverage sponsor Nile Special on Monday launched a fan-rallying campaign, code named “Cranes Na Mutima – Tulumbe” .

This is ahead of the team’s must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros on Saturday, 3 September at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The launch was attended by Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin Sredejovic, FUFA 3rd Vice President Dennis Mbidde as well as two players Dennis Okot Oola and Joseph Ochaya.

“As major sponsors of the Cranes, our duty at this moment is to rally nation-wide support for the Cranes. For quite some time we have rallied the nation to support the Cranes with passion through our Cranes Na Mutima campaign, so this game is the crescendo of it all.” said the NBL Marketing Director Daniel Ogong.

Mbidde commended Nile Special for the continued support throughout the Gabon 2017 AFCON qualification campaign stating that, “The fans have been great throughout the campaign partly due to Nile Special’s unrelenting efforts to rally fans behind the team. They have indeed pushed the Cranes thus far. But there’s one more crucial step to go and we request one more strong push to get the team over the line.”

    michael_hooper

As part of the Cranes Na Mutima – Tulumbe campaign, Ugandans will be required to demonstrate that they are part of the team by donning their national team jerseys every Friday till game-day. This is what has been termed as “#CranesJerseyFridays”

Several fans that adhere to this call will win match tickets and several Nile Special giveaways in country-wide activations.

The other component of the campaign are the upcountry fan-parks at which the game will be screened live.

Nile Special seeks to duplicate the Namboole atmosphere in three upcountry towns that’s; Mbale-Cricket Grounds, Mbarara-Independence Grounds and Lira-Mayor’s Gardens.

Commenting on the two aspects of the campaign Mr. Ogong stated that, “We understand that not all Ugandans can be at Namboole.

But we are saying there’re several ways one can support without stepping in Namboole, from the comfort of your home, at the office or any other work station by pulling on that jersey.

Regarding the fan-parks, the objective is to ensure that the Namboole-like atmosphere is replicated in other parts of the country. In fact we shall do everything possible to ensure the ambiance at the fan parks beats that at Namboole,” promised Mr. Ogong.

Cranes is currently second in Group D and needs to win the last qualification tie against Comoros Island on 3rd September at Namboole Stadium to secure qualification for the Africa Nations Cup for the first time in 39 years.
