    Sports Infrastructure: Philip Omondi Stadium works continue

    The long awaited Philip Omondi stadium Astro Turf project is in the final stages of completion.

    In the morning of Thursday, 1tth February 2016, a delegation from FUFA and KCCA football club and the city authority officials visited the playing facility under construction.

    FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson was joined by the FUFA astro turf specialist Ivan Kintu Bayige, the club officials CEO David Tamale, Chairman Julius Ray Kabugo and Juliet Namuddu, the Education and Social Services officer at KCCA on a courtesy visit to monitor the progress of the works.

    Next week, a top FIFA official, Steve Baker will visit the facility for assessment before the turf is laid.

    The project started in October 2015 and is expected to be completed in March 2016.

    FUFA supports Mirundi memorial cup, to be hosted at Kibuli S.S

    The generous hands of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have on Thursday continued to be manifested with a donation of playing balls to Kibuli S.S Old Students Association (KOSA).

    FUFA donated an assortment of ten (10) balls to the local organizing committee of the Late Moses Mirundi memorial cup that will be played on 5th March 2016 with a gala.

    Handing over the balls on behalf of the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, FUFA Executive committee member, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel expressed gratitude towards the work of the late Moses Mirundi as far as talent grooming among schools was concerned.

    He (Late Moses Mirundi) was a shrewd football administrator.

    He was key when the Copa Coca Cola was founded in 1993 as well as the East African Secondary school games.

     

    We as FUFA are therefore very grateful of his work as a football administrator among the institutions.

    Flanked by the FUFA president personal secretary, Sumaya Kiwanuka Hood, Dr. Ogwel also showered praise to the historic footballing school (Kibuli S.S) for the contribution of football development in the country.

    Kibuli S.S is one of the schools among the FUFA Schools of Excellence youth football programme.

    We are glad for their enormous contribution to football and sports development in general of the country.

    The balls were received by the Kibuli S.S games master, Abdallah Nakaalya Nsubuga.

    Nsubuga warmly appreciated the offer on behalf of the local organizing committee.

    We thank FUFA especially the President, Eng. Moses Magogo for his love of seeing Uganda prosper in the footballing circles.

    We are grateful for the offer towards the Gala and we urge all the students of Kibuli S.S to turn up as we celebrate the life of the late Moses Mirundi.

    The Late Moses Mirundi memorial gala will be held on the 5th March 2016 at Kibuli Secondary school.

    At least ten teams have already confirmed to take part with the proceeds arising from the fundraising channeled to help the family of the deceased.

    Uganda Cranes head Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has showed his readiness on the technical side to face Burkina Faso in the 2017 AFCON qualification campaign.
    ‘The CHAN finals in Rwanda contributed to our preparations for the game against Burkina Faso. A third of the 23 players who featured for Uganda Cranes in the three group stage matches are now ready to feature for the senior team’ said Micho during the FUFA weekly Press conference at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday morning.
    ‘Life is not a bed of roses. Perfection does not exist everywhere. We predicted everything except that approach in the final third during the CHAN Finals in Rwanda’ said Micho in reference to his team’s three games in the group stages.
    Micho added that no stone will be left unturned so as to get the best results against Burkina Faso on March 26th in Ouagadougou and on 29th in Kampala.
    According to the coach, a pool of 50 players is in contention for that double header.
    Micho asked for support from all stake holder especially the federation and coaches of the national team players to play their roles so as to get the best results from the upcoming games.
    He added ‘An international friendly is being lined up to prepare the players in terms of their sharpness, competitiveness and match fitness.
    ‘We will not field names. Only eligible players ready to respond to the cries of many Ugandans for the last 39 years will feature against Burkina Faso encounters’ vowed Micho

    On injured Brian Umony, Micho’s tone went so low. ‘It is unfortunate for Brian and Ugandan football that he suffered a fracture.  He has a lion’s heart. We wish him a quick recovery as he is set for an operation tomorrow’

    On Cranes captain Geoffrey Massa, Micho noted that ‘I have no right to talk about players who will replace those injured. Massa will be fine for the matches in March’

    The Serbian also added that the AFCON 2017 qualifiers will put his players in the right momentum for the start of the group stage matches of the 2018 FUFA world Cup Russia Qualifiers when the draws are finally conducted in June.

    The FUFA President Eng Moses Magogo has urged all Ugandans to support the two clubs representing the country in the CAF competitions this year.

    SC Vipers is representing Uganda in the CAF Champions league following their league success last season while SC Villa Jogoo is taking part in the CAF Confederation cup.

    Vipers is hosting Enyimba of Nigeria at Nakivubo War II Memorial stadium on Friday 12th February 2016 SC Villa Jogoo travel to Sudan to play Khartoum Watani on 13th February 2016.
    ‘The only way we can support these clubs and individuals who inject money in football is by buying tickets to watch the matches’ urged FUFA President who addressed the media at FUFA House on Wednesday morning.

    ‘I have supported the match by buying 50 tickets for the Vipers fans while FUFA CEO Edgar Watson has bought 40 tickets for the employees at the secretariat who will be on duty on Friday at Nakivubo stadium’ said FUFA President.

    We are making a call to the public to understand our position but also requesting Government to fund the National team’ FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo

     

    The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo addressed the media on Wednesday morning at FUFA House and he hinged his speech on two key issues-the forthcoming double header fixtures between Uganda Cranes and Burkina Faso and the involvement of the two Ugandan clubs on the continent.

    Uganda and Burkina Faso will face off in March as the battle for qualification to the 2017 AFCON Finals continues with the two matches to be played in a space of three days.
    This situation is already worrying the federation in terms of preparations where logistics are needed yet finances are not available.

    ‘We are struggling logistically but we shall do whatever we can within our means to put up a fight when these two games come up in March. We are in a very difficult situation financially. Our team will prepare under harsh conditions if Government does not come in with support like they did against Togo’ said FUFA President.

    Magogo added ‘In the past two years, Government’s support towards Uganda Cranes has been immense and results were evident. We received support from Government for the games against Comoros, Mauritania and Guinea Bissau and the players picked up good results’ added Magogo.

    Magogo who was flanked by Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic, Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein, Competitions Director Ali Mwebe and Finance Director Decolas Kiiza said that government support is key for the Uganda Cranes.

    ‘The Togo game was like a rehearsal for the Burkina Faso game as results were achieved because we were well prepared an facilitated by Government. We need to do the same or better than that if we are to get positive results for the coming AFCON encounters against Burkin Faso’ further said the FUFA President.

    ‘If we repeat what we did against Togo We shall have achieved what we have failed since 1978’ added Magogo who broke the news to the media about the financial dilemma the Technical team and FUFA are going through currently to prepare for the two matches’.

    The FUFA President added that the Burkina Faso game is the same environment, opposition and most likely the requirements as it was for the Togo game.
    Uganda Cranes requires to charter a plane to Ouagadougou so as to fly back soon after the game for early preparations of the return game to be played on 29th March under floodlights at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

    ‘Traveling by public means is cumbersome for the National team putting in mind that there will be only 48hours to play away and return to Uganda. This puts the players under harsh playing conditions which will most likely affect their performance on the pitch. We cannot afford to charter plane for Cranes’ said the FUFA President

    The FUFA Finance Director Kiiza revealed that the team requires USD 530,000 and another UGX100M to prepare for the Burkina Faso game.

    Kiiza noted that ‘We have approached Government but we are yet to get response from them. Only Government can bail us out of this financial position we are in right now to get the best results from Uganda Cranes’

    If the team fails to acquire support from Government, the players and officials will have no option to fly to West Africa and still fly back to Uganda on Monday afternoon of 28th March 2016 barely a few hours to the match the following day but their fitness levels will be affected by the long journey from Burkina Faso yet they will be expected to get results.

    ‘It will be very strange for our team to play in West Africa on Saturday while their opponents will use a chartered flight to fly to Uganda. In this scenario the visitor will instead wait for the host’ added Magogo.

    Uganda Cup: KCCA beats Mbarara Soccer Academy to set up clash with Sadolin

    The 2014/2015 Uganda Cup runners up KCCA Football club kicked off their campaign of the knock out competition with a 4-0 thrashing of Mbarara Soccer Academy at Kakyeeka stadium.

    Herman Wasswa netted a brace while Derrick Nsibambi and Joseph Ochaya got their names on the score sheet for the 8 time Uganda Cup winners.

    KCCA FC will still have to make another trip for their next outing in the competition on Valentines Day at Bugembe stadium when they play Sadolin Paints FC .

     

    Sadolin won their round of 64 fixture by convincingly trouncing Kampala Regional League side St Mary’s 5-1 in Nabweru.

    • The team with more goals at the end of the match shall be the winner of the match.
    • If teams are still tying by goals at the end of the match, FIFA spot kicks shall be applied to determine the winner.
    NB: No Extra Time will be played after a drawn match in Normal time at this stage.

    The Communications department of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the attendance of  its President Eng. Moses Magogo and Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic at Wednesday’s press conference at FUFA House.

    The Press conference will start at 10.45 am.

    It will be the first press conference to be held this month by FUFA.

    Burundian import Anniela Uwimana scored the only goal of the match on Sunday against Western United as Gaffrod remained unbeaten in the FUFA Women Elite league. The match was played at Cleveland College, in Kyebando along Northern bypass.

    Gafford have now won four out of five matches this season. Gafford’s match results so far have seen them beat Olira 6-0, She MAK 3-0, Ajax Queens 1-0, Western United 1-0. The other match in which they dropped points saw them draw 0-0 with Mutesa I University.

    Defending champions Kawempe Muslim have won all their opening four games of the season.

    Uganda Cup 2015/16: Defeat for URA, Simba as Bright Stars progress

    The Uganda Cup round of 64 stage continued on Sunday afternoon with defeats to three premier league clubs -Uganda Revenue Authority F.C, army side Simba Sports Club and Jinja Municipal Council football club.

    Simba lost 5-4 to Kira Young, Kampala University disappointed Jinja Municipal Council Hippos and Sun City from Kasese shocked Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club.

    However there were victories for Bright Stars F.C and Sadolin Paints F.C.

    Sadolin Paints humiliated St Marys 5-1 at Nabweru play ground while Bright Stars destroyed Kireka United at their own home yard, at the Nelson Mandela national stadium outer ground.

    Bright Stars’ goals came from skipper Bernard Muwanga, Joshua Kawadwa and Baker Lukooya.

    Richard Mugalu scored the consolation for the home side which was an equaliser at 1-1 before Bright stars netted two more goals.

    The winner of the Uganda Cup represents the country at the CAF Confederation cup.

    Meanwhile match No.46   Sc.Villa Jogoo vs Onduparaka  earlier scheduled for Sunday 14-February 2016  will be played at a later date to be communicated due to the Holders’ involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.

    FUFA PRESIDENT: It is a sorrowful time for Ugandan football following the death of Ssenyonjo

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is grieving with the entire local football fraternity following the loss of former Uganda Cranes player Friday Ssenyonjo.

    ‘In this sorrowful time, we would like to extend to the family of Ssenyonjo our heartfelt condolences. May our Lord comfort you and your loved ones in this trying time’ said FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo.

    Ssenyonjo who passed away on Sunday morning at his home in Kisaasi, played  for Bell FC, Military FC, Express FC and SC Villa as versatile midfielder.

    The Uganda Football Players’ Association (UFPA) is handling the burial arrangements.

    UFPA CEO and a long time friend of the departed player, Paul Mukatabala confirmed to www.fufa.co.ug that burial would be held on Monday at 4pm.

    ‘It is sad to lose such a friend. Burial arrangements are in progress. He will be laid to rest in a village called Lubi along Hoima road’ said Mukatabala in low tone.

    Ssenyongo was born in 1974.

    Uganda Cup 2015/16: Away victories for Express, Maroons & BUL F.C

    The 2015/16 Uganda Cup resumed on Saturday with eight round of 64 matches at the various play grounds.

    Express F.C won 2-0 away to Keolu Super Boys, Soana F.C earned a victory over regional side Free Stars, BUL F.C were 1-0 winners over Artland-Katale and Police F.C picked a crucial 2-0 away win at the against Paidha Black Angels in Zombo.

    Maroons played 2 all with Lira United . Maroons won the resultant penalty shoot out 4-1 to book a berth against Amuria Crane City F.C on Valentines’ day.

    Victoria University failed to travel to Runkungiri where they were supposed to play Nyambura Rastors.

     

    The Saints F.C won 4-0 to book a round of 32 berth against BUL F.C on the 14th February 2016.

    The round of 64 matches continue on Sunday, 7th February 2016 with five matches on the menu.

    The Mbarara Soccer Academy versus KCCA F.C match will be played on Tuesday, 7th February 2016 at the Kakyeeka stadium.

    Sports Club Villa Jogoo is the tournament defending champion.

    UMEA Games: Women football added on list

    When the 2016 Uganda Muslim solidarity games take center stage in Masaka come the month of March, there will surely be excitement about the addition of women football on the games list.

    Masaka Secondary School will host this year’s games as confirmed by the Chairman of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Hajj Twahil Kiteezaala who also revealed that the games will run from 24th to 28th March.

    The road to UMEA Solidarity Games 2016 started at the closing ceremony of the 3rd edition in Kasawo where Masaka Secondary School was awarded the hosting rights. We are now deep into activities leading to 2016 climax

    Only Muslim founded Secondary Schools under their umbrella association UMEA take part in these Solidarity Games.

    More than 30 schools are expected to take part in this year’s edition and will tussle it out in a variety of games which include Football (boys & girls, netball (Girls) among other sporting disciplines like handball (Boys & Girls) plus Volleyball (Boys & Girls).

    For the first time in the history of the games, women football will be played.

    Last year, the games were held by Kasawo S.S.

    Whereas Masaka S.S won the football title, Kibuli S.S were the overall champions when all the disciplines were combined.

    During the previous edition, FUFA’s generous hands witnessed the official handing over of over 30 footballs used at the tournament.

    City Tyres Limited bought all the trophies and awards given to the exceling individuals as the refreshments were well catered for by Crown Beverages Limited under the Pepsi and Mirinda brands.

    The other partner was Rwenzori mineral water.

    The UMEA Games is yet another fertile ground that FUFA eagerly looks to as far as unearthing new talents is concerned.

    Uganda Cup: Mbarara vs KCCA, Busia Fisheries vs New Vision matches rescheduled

    Busia Fisheries FC and New Vision FC will be hoping to hand their fans early Valentine Day presents when both teams clash in the round of 32 in the ongoing Uganda Cup.

    New Vision made a request within the stipulated time to the FUFA Competitions Department with a genuine reason to move the match from Sunday 14th February, 2016 to Saturday.

    The Mbarara Soccer Academy vs KCCA FC match has also been changed and will now be played on 9th and not 7th February, 2016.

    The Competitions Department headed by Ali Mwebe granted their requests.

    In a communication to both teams, the match will now be played on 13th February, 2016 in Busia.

    The rest of the schedule this weekend in the Uganda Cup remains unchanged.

    FIFA Rankings: Uganda now 70th out of 208 member nations

    Uganda Cranes is now ranked 70th out of the 208 Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) member nations according to the latest rankings released on Thursday, 4th February 2016 at Zurich, the main head quarters of FIFA in Switzerland.

    Uganda has accumulated 503 points with five matches played in the January month.

    Two of the matches were hosted at the FUFA Technical center in Njeru (international build ups against Cameroon and Gabon) and three at the fourth African Nations Championships in Rwanda.

    In Rwanda, Uganda drew 2 all against Mali, lost 1-0 to Zambia and shared the spoils in the final game against Zimbabwe after a hard fought one all draw.

    CECAFA Region:

    Uganda is still top in the CECAFA region. They are followed by Rwanda (85th), Kenya (99th), Burundi (119th), Ethiopia (124th), Tanzania (125th), Sudan (136th) and South Sudan (140th).

    Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia are joint 204th on the log.

    According to www.fifa.com, the three most impressive teams for February’s ranking all come from Asia:

    Palestine (110, plus 21), Saudi Arabia (55, plus 20) and Korea DPR (95, plus 18) enjoyed the biggest advances since the last world ranking.

    Teams from Asia, Africa and Central American dominated the list of teams that improved by more than five positions for February, namely: Cape Verde Islands (33, plus 6), Costa Rica (31, plus 6) , Qatar (78, plus 6), Honduras (91, plus 7), Mozambique (102, plus 7), Belize (120, plus 8), Swaziland (127, plus 6), Kuwait (133, plus 8), and Nepal (188, plus 8).

    A special mention goes to Rwanda (85, plus 6) in the latest ranking.

    The Wasps won three for their six matches played since early January, while also closing out 2015 with a shock-upset over African heavyweights Côte d’Ivoire in an international friendly played on 16 December 2015.

    The next ranking will be released on the 3rd March 2016.

    FUFA Club Management Course
    Wednesday 3rd -6th February 2016
    Venue: FUFA House, Mengo

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has organised another Club Management course that will last four days at FUFA House in Mengo.
    The targeted groups are participants of the FUFA Big League teams and other officials from different clubs across all football levels.

    The course is organised in line with the agenda of professionalising club football in the country. It is the 3rd course to be conducted by FUFA having started with Azam Uganda Premier League club officials in 2015.

    There will be examinations for certification of participants by FUFA at the end of the course.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo says that;
    ‘The decision to conduct this course was reached on by the FUFA Executive. All clubs in the AUPL and Big League must have Chief Executive officers. It is one of the requirements for club licensing’

    The instructors for the course are; Eng. Moses Magogo (FIFA Instructor), Justus Mugisha (FIFA Instructor) Sam Mpiima (CAF Instructor), Mwebe Ali (Competitions), Ahmed Hussein (Communications), Decolas Kiiza (Finance) and Denis Lukambi (Legal).

    The participants will be taken through; Football and its trends, FUFA and Its Development progammes, Finance Management, Types of clubs, statutes, rules and regulations, FIFA and Its development programmes, General Management, club Management, Marketing, Communications, Event Management, planning and Human Resource.
    Participants at FUFA House: Kayondo Godfrey (Artland Katale FC), Ivan Kakembo (Sc Villa Jogoo), Wamalwa George Ivan (Busia Fisheries), Mutebi Shafic (Crane Media Institute), Mbazira Joel (Baza Holdings FC), Tamale Moses Bin Muhmamad (Wakiso United FC), Afeti Marvin (Onduparaka FC), Ajena Christopher (Citizen FC, Mbarara).

    Planning ensures systematic approach to operations at any institution. At the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has embarked on a journey to approve plans and also work within budgetary lines for any activity lined up this year.

    The FUFA President Eng.Moses Magogo is chairing the retreat while six other people FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye, Executive members Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel, Sam Mpiima, Secretariat staff Kiiza Decolas-Finance Director, Mwebe Ali Competitions Director and Sumaya Hood-Personal Assistant to the FUFA President are overseeing and coordinating the planning process.
