  • FUFA Women Elite League: Weekend Results; Kawempe win, UCU defeats Rhiness 7-0, Buikwe She Red Stars drop points at home

    UCU Cardinals defeated Rhiness 7-0 thanks to Millicent Mwanzi who scored four times as her team easily collected maximum points on Friday afternoon when the FUFA Women Elite League resumed after a two month break. The win for UCU makes it four on the trot from their games played so far this season.

    UCU’s Maureen Kinavudori got a hat-trick in a game played at the University Grounds in Mukono.

    The other league game played on Friday ended in a goalless draw between Buikwe She Red Stars and She Corporates at Nakawa Uganda Institute of Communications Technology Grounds.

    National referees undergo tests at Namboole

    A total of 125 referees have undergone medical and fitness tests for the New Year 2016. The fitness tests kicked off on Friday at FUFA House with the medicals while the rest took place at the outer and inside pitches at Mandela National Stadium.

    The Beach soccer referees will have their physical tests tomorrow morning at Lido, Entebbe starting at 8 O’clock in the morning there after the league matches for the second round of the Pepsi Beach Soccer League kickoff at 10 am.

    107 Male referees took part in the exercise for the National referees including the 19 FIFA badge holders.

    The medical checkup covered the heart-beat, eye sight, blood pressure and general health of the referees.

    Other physical tests were done under the inspection of National Physical Fitness Instructor Ali Kalyango and his assistant Rahman Kizito.

    The supervisors were Mansoor Kimumwe (FUFA Referees Officer) Ali Tomusange (Chairman FUFA Referees Technical Panel/Member FRSC), George Kabwimukya (Member FIFA Referees Monitoring Panel), Haruna Mawanda, (FUFA Referees Standing Committee/Member FUFA Referees Monitoring Panel), Ronnie Kalema (FUFA Referees Appointments Panel), George Wamala Katumba (FUFA Referees Assessment Panel), Chris Kalibala, (Chairman FRSC), Aggrey Ashaba (Member FUFA Referees Appointment Panel), David Davis Katabira (Chairman Uganda Referees Football Association), Sekabira Lukooya (Member FUFA Referees Appointment Panel and Samuel Wesonga Egesa (FUFA Referees Manager).

    The tests were conducted to prepare both FIFA and FUFA referees for the second round of the different football leagues in the country.

    As they prepare for the forth coming CAF Champions league engagement against Nigerian club, Ennyimba Football Club, Uganda’s representatives, Sports Club Vipers are set to play a high profile build up match with Kenyan club, Tuskers Football Club.

    The match will take place on Saturday, 30th January 2016 at the club’s training facility located at St Mary’s Play ground, Kitende, off Entebbe road.

    The visitors arrived in the country on Friday and will stay at the FUFA Technical center in Njeru.

    Tusker will also play against JMC Hippos at Kakindu Stadium and Sadolin Paints in Bugembe on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

    FUFA referees’ office has already allocated the match day referees for the Vipers and Tusker international build up game.

    The football radio, 102.1 FUFA f.m will rely the game live to millions of football fans across the country.

    Refereeing: Medical and physical fitness tests underway

    A head of the start of the various second round for the Azam Uganda Premier league, FUFA Second Division (FUFA Big league), regional leagues and all the lower division leagues, the referees are getting prepared with the mandatory medical and physical fitness tests.

    A total of over 130 referees (FIFA, national and beach soccer referees) have undertaken the medical tests on Friday at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    All the FIFA referees (apart from Mark Ssonko), who is still at the Orange CHAN championships are part of the tests.

    The referees are checked for heart beat, temperature, body metabolism, general health level among other things during the medicals

    The rest are national and beach soccer referees.

    According to the FUFA referees’ manager, Samuel Wesonga Egesa, all the referees will be required to undertake the physical fitness tests at Nelson Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Saturday, 30th January 2016, starting at 7 a.m.

    The beach soccer referees will conduct their physical drills early in the morning at Lido, moments before the start of the second round of the Pepsi national beach soccer league.

    It is a requirement for all referees who handle FUFA sanctioned matches to have undertaken these mandatory tests to access the level of fitness, health status before embarking on refereeing any fixture.

    The Uganda Cranes contingent that played at the 2016 Orange African Nations Championships has returned home on Friday morning.

    The players and officials jetted back by Air Rwanda at around 8:45 a.m.

    They were received by the FUFA Second Vice President, Darious Mugoye.

    Uganda drew two games against Mali (2-2) and Zimbabwe (1-1); losing to Zambia 1-0.

Team captain, Faruku Miya was also injured when he was pushed and fell awkwardly on his left shoulder. He missed the game against Zambia and only returned to play the last group game with Zimbabwe

    The head coach, Milutin Sredojevic has picked positives from the tournament that is still going on in Rwanda.

    “I give the players credit for the display even when the results did not go the way we expected. The team had fresh blood with a few experienced players. There are some players who have the potential to graduate to the senior team as we now switch focus to AFCON 2017 qualifiers and the World Cup 2018 QUALIFIERS in June 2016”

    In the 2 all draw against Mali, team captain, Faruku Miya and Erisa Ssekisambu scored the goals.

    The FUFA technical team will review the overall performance of the Cranes and make recommendations.

    Uganda Cranes shared the spoils with Zimbabwe in a one all draw of the Orange 2016 African Nations Championships (CHAN) group D match played on Wednesday, 27th January, at the Umuganda stadium in Rubavu.

    Lweza F.C striker, Geofrey Sserunkuma scored late in the game to equaliz William Manondo’s opener in the 48th minute.

    The game witnessed the Uganda Cranes’ skipper, Faruku Miya return to action after that shoulder injury against Mali.

    Miya had a chance at goal with a greatly curled a free kick saved by goal keeper, Tatenda Marshal in the first half.

    The technical bench replaced central defender, Richard Kasagga Jjuuk for striker Samson Ceasar Okhuti.

    By the change, Timothy Awany pulled back to play alongside Bernard Muwanga meanwhile Ivan Ntege remained the only defensive midfielder on the field of play.

    Later, goal hero Geofrey Sserunkuma and Edrisa Lubega came in for  Muleme and Ssekisambu respectively.

    The draw is not enough for Uganda to progress to the knock out stages.

    However, Zambia and Tunisia progress to the last eight stage after finishing with 7 and 5 points respectively.

    Meanwhile Uganda Cranes contingent will return home on Friday morning (10 O’clock) aboard RwandAir.

    Orange African Nations Championship 2016: Sibomana excited to drive the Uganda Cranes in Rwanda

    When Muhammed Sibomana was informed he was to be the official driver for the Uganda Cranes at the Orange African Nations Championship 2016, in Rwanda, he chest thumped in celebration.

    The Ugandan born driver whose experience behind the wheels dates as far back as the last 20 years had a reason to smile.

    In an exclusive interview with www.fufa.co.ug, Sibomana said it was his wish to be given Uganda among the 16 countries at the tournament.

    “I prayed that they give me Uganda Cranes and my wish was granted. I love Uganda because it is my country of birth.”

    Sibomana was born in Kisoro, a place he left in the year 2005 for greener pastures in Rwanda.

    “My family still lives in Kisoro. I work in Rwanda and visit them often. I have had a great chance to see the players and coaches of Uganda I normally listen to during matches. My team at the CHAN Tournament is Uganda and I love watching them play”

    The father of one daughter and four sons praises his boss, Olivier Nizeyimana, the owner of the Volcano buses, that were hired to offer transport to all the teams and the CHAN 2016 local organizing committee.

    “He (Nizeyimana) loves football and owns a team, Rayon Sports. He has been supportive to me ever since I came to Rwanda”

    The Uganda Cranes players and the officials all like the driver because he is time cautious, social and hard working. He has always been picking players from Le Belvedere Hotel to training sessions and back on time.

    Miya has fully recovered from the injury that kept him out of the game against Zambia. Three other changes have been made from the starting team against Zambia.     Lubowa attends Technical Directors’ course in Malawi

    Uganda’s Asuman Lubowa is among 15 participants taking part in the FIFA Organised course for Technical Directors in the East and Central African region in in Blantyre, Malawi.

    The course that started on Monday and ends on 29th January, 2016  is held at Chiwembe Technical Centre 15 Km from the Capital in the district of Chichiri.

    Lubowa is the FUFA Technical Director and this course will help him and other participants in discussing matters inclined to management, share of knowledge and technical expertise.

    The course will also help participants keep uptodate with FIFA’s developmental programmes around the globe.

    The course was officially opened by the Minister of Youth and sports in Malawi Grace Chiumia while Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu was also in attendance.

    FIFA’s Jurg Nepfer said ‘Technical Directors are pillars of football. They need to be well equipped with information that helps in developing the game’

    The Uganda Cranes team successfully conducted their Tuesday training session at the Umuganda stadium training facility in the morning.

    The players went through the paces under the watchful eyes of coaches, Milutin Sredojevic, Fred Kajoba (goal keeping trainer), the assistant coach, Moses Basena as the medical team together with the rest of the team members kept a keen eye on the training procedure.

    Ahead of the Uganda Cranes versus Zimbabwe clash on Wednesday, 27th January 2016, the post match press conference has been held on Monday afternoon at the Umuganda stadium media center.

    The well attended press conference had the head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and the team captain Faruku Miya vow to play their role – win and will eagerly await for the result from the Zambia and Mali match.

    Miya who has made a remarkable recovery from his shoulder injury said;

    ‘I am not different from the rest of my teammates. We are a unit in camp. We shall work together. We played well against Zambia. I still believe in the squad. Let’s see what we offer on Wednesday against Zimbabwe’

    On his part, Micho promised a great game;

    ‘We shall play to the best of our ability against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. We shall play our part as we wait for the results from the other match. Zambians are led by a honorable football icon- Kalusha. We expect them to play to the best of their ability and respect the game’

    Great Opportunity for CAF Licensed coaches to handle clubs across Africa

    The CAF A coaching course-Module 1 that started on 18th January at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru continued with the 32 participants being taken through various areas. The areas covered are; leadership, effects of endurance training, data Collection, Psychology, Sports Medicine and Problem Solving.

    One of the three CAF Instructors handling the coaches Jackson Nyiima says that;

    ‘It is a golden opportunity for the participants to get to another level in coaching across Africa. The coaches who take the course will have good grounds of being employed around Africa as per the new CAF rules implemented this year’

    Nyiima said that module 1 has been done during the league off season for two weeks while Module 2 will be held at the end of the Azam Uganda Premier League 2015/2016 season.
    FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa and Mujib Kasule are the other CAF Instructors at the course.

    MICHO: Miya’s return brings new lease of life into the team

    Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic believes that Faruku Miya’s resumption of training has brought smiles to many faces of the players in camp.

    ‘When one of your best players returns from injury is good news to the rest to the team’ said Micho who welcomed back his captain to the evening training session at the outer pitch at Umuganda stadium.

    Miya was involved in all the team’s drills and looked lively.

    On chances Miya being featured in the Uganda Cranes final group D match against Zimbabwe on Wednesday, the Serbian was non-committal on any decision he might take.

    ‘No match is bigger than a player. We had the chance to use Miya against Zambia but decided to reserve him so that he comes back fully fit. Let us wait for next two days to assess his fitness levels’ said Micho.

    Match No. 16: Uganda 0-1 Zambia

    Uganda Cranes have lost 1-0 to Zambia in the Orange CHAN finals group D match at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu on Saturday night.

    Zambian captain, Christopher Katongo headed home the only goal in the 40th minute of the game that won the game for the Chipolopolo Stars.

    Uganda created several opportunities although none could be converted.

    Erisa Ssekisambu and the two second half changes (Frank Kalanda and Geofry Sserunkuma) all had attempts at Zambia’s goal.

    Defender, Bernard Muwanga was the only player booked in the game.

    Team captain, Faruku Miya and first choice goal keeper, Isma Watenga missed the game through different injuries but watched from the VIP area reserved for players.

    Chance left for Uganda:

    With the two last group games coming next Wednesday,Uganda Cranes has chance of progressing.

    A victory over Zimbabwe at Rubavu and a loss for Mali against Zambia at Nyamirambo will see Uganda to the last eight stage.

    At the post match press conference Uganda Cranes coach Miultin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic said that ‘ We shall not lose hope until the last minute of our final group stage against Zimbabwe. We shall remain competitive’

    Micho also heaped praise on his players for a good show against the Zambians.

    ‘International football is very tricky. You lose concentration and get punished and that what happened when we conceded a goal’

  • 2016 CHAN: Ochaya to captain Cranes XI against Zambia, legendary Sekagya visits camp

    Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has named his starting XI to face Zambia in the Group D match of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) due on Saturday at 6pm Local time (7pm in Uganda). The match will be broadcast live on 102.1 FUFA fm.

    Ochaya who plays for KCCA FC will captain the Uganda Cranes in the absence of regular skipper Faruku Miya while Kigonya comes in goal for Ismail Watenga who picked up an injury against Mali on Tuesday. Stylish Muzamir Mutyaba is in the team while Ivan Ntege is back from suspension.

    Meanwhile former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Sekagya visited the Uganda Cranes team at its base in Rubavu-Belvedere Hotel.

    He said ‘ I will be in the stands to support you. It is a match we need three points and i believe you are ready’ said the soft spoken Sekagya who also had a luncheon with the players.

    His visit to camp was arranged by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA). He traveled from Kigali together with the FUFA President Eng.Moses Magogo and former Cranes media officer Fred Katende Malibu.

    FUFA Airtel Awards: Fans’ favorite player Award for Andre Ayew delivered

    Ghana and Swansea star player Andre Ayew was voted by Ugandan football fans as their favorite player featuring in the European Leagues in the year 2015.

    The stylish players was later named during the Airtel FUFA Awards as the ‘Fans’ Favorite Player in the European Leagues’.

    During the Awards held in December last year at Speke Resort Munyonyo, former Uganda Cranes Captain and now Chief Executive Officer of Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Edgar Watson received the award on behalf of Ayew.

    The Leader of Delegation for Ugandan contingent to the CHAN Finals in Rwanda Hamid Juma was also present.

    On Friday afternoon at Kivu Lake Serena Hotel, the award was handed over to Ghanaian CAF Official Kofi Addae who will deliver it to Ayew.

    Faruku Miya who was voted by all the 16 coaches of the Azam Uganda Premier League as the best player and FUFA CEO Watson handed over the award to Kofi.

    ‘I am glad to receive this award on behalf of Ayew. I will give it to the Ghana FA for delivery to the final recipient. We thank Ugandan fans for recognising Ayew as their most favorite player playing in the European Leagues’ said Kofi.

    Ayew was part of the Ghana team that played Uganda Cranes at Namboole during the 2015 Nations cup campaign. Uganda beat Ghana 1-0 in 2014.
