  • History Maker: FUFA Big League welcomes first ever female coach

Faridah Bulega was one of the best players of her generation. She was part of the Golden Generation that produced Olive Mbekeka-arguably Uganda’s best ever female footballer, Majidah Nantanda, Nakintu Robinah, Annet Nakimbugwe, Fatumah Luwedde and Namata Agnes.

With the FUFA Big League 2015/2016 season set to kick off on Thursday at various grounds, new comers Wakiso United have defied all odds and hired a woman coach with a dream to lead the Kampala Region champions to the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Bulega was a striker during her playing career and with players like Mbekeka, Nantanda and Nakimbugwe around her; she easily hit the back of the net on several occasions.

Having attained the CAF C coaching License-a requirement by FUFA or any Big League club, Bulega was approached by Wakiso United CEO Moses Tamale Bin Muhammad.

‘I received a call from Moses but I never believed that a woman would be sought after for a job to handle a men’s team’ said Bulega a former National team player now aged 27.

Bulega also handles FUFA Women Elite League side Gafford Ladies FC but spends most of her time with a girls’ football team under a Non-Government Organisation called Field Of Dreams Uganda.

Her new employers are extremely happy and are looking forward to seeing her tactics when Wakiso play Synergy on Thursday.

‘She has a brilliant CV and we have been following her performances at various clubs. We are confident we have brought a quality coach who will also change the image of the club and the game’ said Wakiso CEO Tamale.
‘It is a building process and we are confident that Bulega will play her part in the success of this team as we push for a place in the top flight’ added excited Tamale while talking to www.fufa.co.ug

Bulega who is full of praise for FUFA’s current structures that have helped her polish her coaching skills, says she one dreamt of handling a men’s team but never expected to happen so soon.

‘I got the confidence from Hamid ‘Midi’ Juma who told me that I had all the qualifications needed to coach a men’s team. I listened keenly to what Midi was saying and slept over his ideas and I then started thinking about coaching a men’s team’ said Bulega.

Wakiso’s CEO adds that; ‘We don’t mind about a woman handling a men’s team. We know we have got one of the best coaches in Ugandan football at her age. We shall support her 100%’

  • Caveat on FUFA House withdrawn

    Caveat on FUFA House withdrawn

The FUFA Legal team has managed to secure the land title for the FUFA House free from any incumbrances, 12 years after a caveat was lodged on it.
The caveat was withdrawn at the beginning of this week and the land title is now in FUFA’s possession free from any incumbrances.
Following a meeting last year with the IGG, FUFA was advised on a number of recommendations on the federation’s properties which steps were undertaken with the impact is now visible.

The FUFA Legal Officer Denis Lukambi told www.fufa.co.ug that there were concerted efforts from various parties for the success of the whole process.

    _DSC0777
FUFA Legal Officer Denis Lukambi (R) with Alex Luganda during the 91st FUFA General Assembly in Soroti.

‘We would like to thank the Lands Division of Kampala Capital City Authority and former Express FC Chairman Mr. Kirumira Godfrey for their tremendous efforts in the process that helped us secure our title back’ said Lukambi.

‘Kirumira eased the exercise by signing on all the necessary documentation that was needed for the withdrawal of the caveat’ added Lukambi.

The latest development will be added on to the list of achievements by the FUFA Legal team since Eng. Moses Magogo election as FUFA President on 31st August, 2013.

Achievements by the FUFA Legal team since
    1) Drawn or amended the following Statutes and regulations;
    a) The FUFA Statutes
    b) The FUFA Competitions Rules
    c) The FUFA Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players
    d) The Regulations for the Intermediaries
    e) Club Ownership and Registration
    f) Specific Competition Rules
    g) FUFA Club Licensing Regulations
    h) The Referees Manual

    2) The amendment of the FUFA Statutes have now clarified that FUFA is an Association that owns a company called FUFA Ltd. This clears the confusion that was being propagated that FUFA is a company owned by 3 shareholders that was being propagated by detractors.

    3) We have used our reach-out programme to explain the position of FUFA to the offices of HE the President of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Honourable Prime Minister, the Ministry of Education, the NCS, the Courts of Law, the Parliament, the IGG, the Auditor General, and the Uganda Police. We have been able to position FUFA as an organisation that is law abiding and working to transform our nation using football development.
    4) Together with our legal committee and the FUFA lawyers, we have been able to successfully fend off a wave of 9 fresh court cases in the past 2 years and contained the debris of cases from the previous years against FUFA and its Officials. It has come at a cost in resources that would have been utilised for the Development of the game but the alternative would have affected development too if FUFA lost such cases

    5) We have patented and registered the following FUFA Trademarks;
    • The FUFA Logo
    • The Phrase “Uganda Cranes”
    • The Phrase “It is Our Game, It is Our Country”
    • The Name “Uganda Premier League”
    • The Abbreviation “FUFA”
Many others have also been also being registered and this give FUFA the exclusive usage of the patents registered and this does not only fend off impostors but also create commercial value by sale of exclusive usage if these trademarks

    6) Despite our position that a new modern law that suits the time is urgently enacted, FUFA has fulfilled and submitted to the NCS all the requirements (save for only incorporation) to be issued with a certificate of Registration as required by the 2014 Statutory instruments drawn by the Minister of Educations and Sports.
    7) Currently on-going is to ensure that the assets of FUFA and Title Documents are properly in the control of the organisation.
