    WOMEN SOCCER: FIFA Coaching Course ends successfully in Njeru

    Almost 30 coaches participated in the FIFA Women’s Coaching Course that ended on Friday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru-Jinja.

    The five day course was aimed at developing methods for coaches who handle women football in Uganda. The course also centred on how to coach female players both technically and tactically as well as understanding the specific characters of female players.

    The course follows FIFA’s donation of equipment to all the 12 teams playing in the FUFA Women’s Elite League that is on recess now after the completion of the first round.

    According to FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha who presided at the closing ceremony, he says that both FIFA and FUFA are committed to see the women game grow in the country.

    ‘The association is fully committed to develop the feminine side of the game and I can assure you the world’s soccer governing body, FIFA clearly is impressed with the progress in Uganda’

    ‘We shall organize some international fixtures but only after setting up strong structures to help in selecting the national team to compete at the highest level’

    ‘It is my wish to see you coaches exercising the skills you have acquired as it is the only way the federation can benefit from its laid strategies’

    The five-day course was partitioned into theory and practical sessions which used players from the St Steven Buyala Budondo and Nile Vocational Training Institute.

    The coaches were given plenty of opportunities to learn more about the game to improve the levels of coaching in their clubs, schools, teams and regional academies.

    The course was conducted by FIFA Instructor Jacqueline Shipanga who captained the Namibia National Women soccer team from 1994-2004 and she’s also the current National team coach since 2007.
    This was her second visit to Uganda but has been impressed with FUFA’s women’s football programme.

    ‘It is great to see an association fully support women’s football and judging by the enthusiasm and discipline of the young female players FUFA is doing a great job in developing women’s football”.

    Course participants (27 in total) included many coaches and players from the FUFA Women Elite League, schools and academies.

    FRIDAY, 17TH APRIL 2015 RESULTS:

    Lweza 1-3 SC Villa

    SC Victoria University 0-2 KCC FC

    BUL FC 1-0 Kira Young FC

    Soana 2-1 Bright Stars

    Vipers FC 2-0 Simba FC

    There were 12 goals scored over the five Azam Uganda Premier league fixtures played on Friday.

    Table leaders, Vipers sports club held onto the grip at the summit with a 2-0 home victory over army side, Simba F.C.

    Julius Maligumu scored his first goal since his January transfer from Rwenshama to take his personal tally to 6.

    U-23 team captain, Faruku Miya, who netted the only strike when Uganda defeated Nigeria in the March 25th international build up in Uyo state, scored the other Vipers goal.

    Vipers now have 52 points, two ahead of second placed KCC and three better than SC Villa, who easily overcame Lweza 3-1 at Wankulukuku stadium.

    Simba, coached by the new Uganda Cranes assistant coach, Moses Basena remains 12th with 25 points.

    Away at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja, home side Bul F.C scored a 34th minute goal through team skipper, Patrick Asiku to defeat visiting Kira Young, who remain in the relegation parameters.

    Soana reveled in the opportunity that the AZAM Television cameras were erected at Kavumba Recreational stadium for the first time to grab a home victory over Bright Stars.

    The league sponsors, AZAM T.V televised live the game between Soana and Bright Stars.

    Soana F.C rallied from a goal down to win 2-1 and resurrect their hopes of surviving relegation.

    Akram Kakembo had put the Kawempe boys ahead before veteran lanky forward, Hamis Kitagenda scored for the home team.

    At the Nelson Mandela National stadium, Namboole, Sports club victoria University suffered their 10th defeat of the current campaign, going 0-2 down to the reigning champions, Kampala City Council.

    Uganda U-23 midfielder, Baker Lukooya maintained his goal scoring form after opening his account last Saturday against Rwenshama with another goal for Abdullah Mubiru coached side.

    Joseph Ochaya scored toe whe other goal for KCC, who keep toe – to- toe with the leading pack of Vipers and SC Villa.

    Vipers lead with 52 points, KCC (50) and SC Villa has 49 points.

    KCC has played 24 games, one more of Vipers and SC Villa.

    The league resumes next Tuesday.

  • WOMEN SOCCER: FIFA coaching course closes on Friday

    The course that was officially opened on Monday by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo will come to an end on Friday at the FUFA Technical centre, Njeru.

     

    FUFA technical director Asuman Lubowa is happy with the progress so far.
    “The course is moving on well and even instructor, Jacquiline Chipanga is happy with the participants’ response” said Asuman Lubowa.

    The fully FIFA/FUFA sponsored course has attracted 27 coaches is the first of its kind since the FUFA Women Elite League was introduced with a purpose of participants transferring the acquired knowledge to the players in order to improve the quality of the league.

    Lubowa who is also happy with FUFA’s progress says he sees a bright future in the next 5-10 years if such courses are often put in place.

    “I am happy that the FUFA President’s manifesto is being implemented and we are seeing that ‘Project Cameroon 2019’ is being put into consideration and coaching education is one of the programs to achieve that goal” added Lubowa.

    Meanwhile, this is the third FIFA Women Football coaching course in Uganda after earlier courses in 2011 and 2013 at Namboole and Lugogo respectively.

    FIFA Instructor Nambian Jacqueline Chipanga is handling the coaches.

  • FUFA endorses Lawrence Mulindwa for CECAFA top seat

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that it has nominated Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa for the post of CECAFA President.

    The development was confirmed in a communication signed by FUFA President Eng.Moses Magogo and sent to all the Presidents of the CECAFA Member Associations.

    The current CECAFA term of office expires in November,2015.

    Mandate of the Uganda Premier League:

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) 7th Executive Committee meeting of 15th April 2015 ratified the decision made by the FUFA Emergency Committee on 23rd February, 2015 to withdraw the mandate of the FUFA Super League (FSL) to run the Uganda Premier League and to maintain the status quo until the end of the current season.

    The Azam Uganda Premier League Secretariat headed by CEO Bainamani Bernard Bampaire will report directly to the FUFA Chief Executive Officer.

    MATCH MANIPULATION: FUFA Sets Up 3 Man Committee

    FUFA’s strong plans to tame the vice of match fixing and betting which is aimed at distorting the natural outcome of  football results has come with the naming of a three man committee that has a police officer, lawyer and journalist.

    The committee has been named to handle matters of match manipulation and be the Single point of contact (SPOC)

    ‘This committee will be the first point of contact for FUFA, Clubs and other people to investigate matters of match manipulation’

    The Federation Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson remarked as he addressed the media on Thursday at Mengo in Kampala.
    The committee has Zirabamuzale Muzafaru , Counsel Muwawu James and Walusimbi Wooto.

    SAFETY & DISCIPLINE: FUFA Issues Tough Measures For Fans, Officials and Clubs

    In a bid to ensure sanity and safety at several football matches, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has issued tough measures for fans, officials and clubs.

    Addressing the media at the press conference on Thursday, the FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson outlined the stringent measures to check the rampant violence and related incidents at football games; and henceforth the punishments that the culprits stand to face.

    These were the resolutions passed by the 7th FUFA Executive committee meeting that convened at FUFA House on Wednesday, 15th April 2015.

    The FUFA Executive committee noted with concern the fans behavior at various venues during matches that result into violence and abandonment of fixtures.
    The FUFA executive noted with concern as well that little effort has been put in by clubs to curb this spiraling behavior that leads to hooliganism and violence.
    We need peaceful environs before, during and after matches. We shall trace and bring all the suspects to book. We are working closing with security bodies.

    The Federation CEO remarked.

    Watson, who was flanked by two FUFA Vice Presidents Darius Mugoye and Denis Mbidde, FUFA Competitions committee secretary, Ali Mwebe and the Federation spokesperson, Ahmed Hussein communicated that FUFA has issued a circular in regard to the matter to all clubs and competition organizers that any club whose fans, officials or players are involved in acts that lead to violence, abandonment of matches and later found guilty shall face the following sanctions;

    • Shall be docked three points and lose the match in play

    • Any fans or stakeholders of a club (s) found guilty of involvement in acts of violence during the match period of before, during and after shall have their team docked two points.

    • One point will be docked from a club whose stakeholders are reported or found to be guilty of using unacceptable behavior towards other stakeholders including opposing teams, match officials and organizers.

    FUFA preaches fair play at all times in line with the stipulated CAF and FIFA rules and regulations that the beautiful game dwells along.

    FUFA announces Changes For National Teams, Standing Committees

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the appointment of Moses Basena as the new Uganda Cranes assistant coach.

    The change was announced by the FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edgar Watson during a rescheduled weekly  press briefing on Thursday, 16th April 2015.

    The confirmation of Basena comes shortly after FUFA Executive committee that convened on April 15th 2015 at the Federation headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.

    Watson also informed the media of other changes with the various National teams.

    Peter Onen, who has been assistant coach to Mathias Lule at the U-17 team- The Cubs takes over the top job as head coach.

    Lule left Uganda for Tanzania where he is coaching a premier league team, Stand F.C. The Executive committee reserved this job to a coach based in Uganda.

    Frank Anyau is assistant coach to Milutin Sredojevic at the Under 23 (Uganda Kobs) team.

    Kefa Kisala has been appointed head coach of U-20 team (Uganda Hippos).

    Watson also announced changes of the coordinators who will work under the office of National teams office Patrick Ntege.

    The weekly FUFA Press conference that was due tomorrow at FUFA House has been postponed to Thursday 16th April,2015 at 10am

    The change will help FUFA communicate to the sports media what will have transpired in the FUFA Executive committee meeting set for Wednesday.

    ‘Key football issues related to the development of the game will be top on the agenda. We decided to change the date of the press conference so that the media can get information on any decisions that might be taken by the Executive Committee members’ said FUFA Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein

    Eight goals have been scored in the four Azam Uganda premier league fixtures played on Tuesday across the different playing grounds.

    Uganda Revenue Authority midfielder, Ali Feni struck a hat trick in his team’s 4-0 home victory over Jinja side, Sadolin Paints.

    Striker Robert Sentongo got the other goal in the game played at Mehta Stadium on Tuesday.

    At Wankulukuku, Express won 2-1 over Rwenshama.

    Yefesi Mubiru and John Ssemazzi opened the scoring for the home side before Duncan Sseninde got the consolation for the visitors.

    U-23 defender, Sadat Kyambadde was unfortunate to score in his own net to help the league champions, KCC overcome Police 0-1 at Kavumba recreational Stadium.

    In Entebbe, Sports Club Victoria University played to a goal -less draw with Richard Makumbi’s Entebbe F.C.

    The league will resume on Friday, 17th April 2015.

  • UGANDA CUP: Bul FC ejects Bright stars to storm semi-finals

    Bright Stars FC were knocked out of the Uganda cup by Bul FC in a game that saw three penalties awarded.

    BUL FC won 2-1 in Mwererwe-home ground of Bright Stars who had lost to the same side 3-0 in the Azam Uganda Premier League last Friday at Kakindu stadium.

    Bright Stars got two penalties-once successfully converted by striker Hassan Kikoyo to get the game’s while the other missed by their captain Bernard Muwanga.

    Bul FC were also awarded a penalty that was netted by Hood Mayanja while Milton Kaliisa got the winner for the Jinja based side on 85 minutes to send Bright Stars packing out of the tournament played on a knock out basis.

    BUL joins Lweza FC in the last four of the Uganda cup.

    WOMEN SOCCER: FUFA president opens coaching course in Njeru

    The  six day FIFA coaching course for women football teams and academies in Uganda rolled off today at the FUFA Technical centre Njeru.

    The course is a follow up on the FIFA Com-Unity seminar held last year in Uganda that has since resulted into the start of the first ever FUFA Women Elite League.

    FUFA Presidnent Eng. Moses Magogo performed the opening ceremony that was attended by the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson as as FIFA instructor Jacquiline Chipanga.

    27 coaches are taking part in the course that will cover various aspects of the game including team selection, crisis management and team formation.

    FUFA president revealed to the participants that the federation is in talks with companies to find sponsors for the women’s league.

    ‘There is a product that we are presenting to the sponsors. We are hopeful for positive results’ said Magogo.

    He added ‘the media has played a key role in highlighting the activities of women football hence the attention it is getting now’

    FIFA Instructor Chipanga said that ‘the challenge to support and develop women’s football lies in the hands of the administrators’.

    She further said ‘I am here to give you guidance on how to handle players and I am sure it will be beneficial to the stakeholders’

    The FUFA CEO Edgar Watson confirmed that the Technical department will be shifted from its current base at FUFA House to Njeru.

    ‘I am glad that the first course has been conducted inside one of the rooms of the Goal project IV. We shall have  many more courses here’

    WOMEN SOCCER: Kawempe’s Sandra Nabweteme nets hat-trick in league, but who will stop her?

    • Sandra Nabweteme nets hat-trick for Kawempe who have won all their 5 games

    • The star has played every minute of Kawempe’s fixtures and yet to concede a goal in the league

    The FUFA Women Elite League resumed this weekend with a series of games played around the country. Since its launch in February, the goals have been coming in thick and fast for the teams but one person who can’t stop scoring is Sandra Nabweteme.

    Her team Kawempe Muslim Secondary school FC is still unbeaten-having won all their opening five fixtures and yet to concede a goal.

    Nabweteme who was the star last Sunday with the penalty when Kawempe edged Buikwe She Red Stars 1-0 in the top of the table clash, was again on the mark this evening scoring a hat-trick as her team defeated Eastern Heroes Eastern Heroes 4-0 in Kawempe. Hasifa Nassuna netted the other goal.

    Nabweteme has now taken her goals tally in the FUFA Women elite League to 14.

  • FUFA Disciplinary Committee pronounces itself on football matters

    The FUFA Disciplinary Committee headed by Counsel Ojok Geoffrey has pronounced itself on matters regarding the provisional suspension of FSL Board Chairman Hajji Abbas Kawaase Mukasa and the clubs that failed to honour the Uganda Premier League fixtures on Tuesday 24th February, 2015.

    The decisions by the FUFA Disciplinary committee were released on Saturday 11th April, 2015 at FUFA House.
    The FSL Chairman and the 16 clubs playing in the Azam Uganda Premier League were invited to defend themselves before the disciplinary committee at FUFA House.

    During the sessions;
    Hajji Abbas Kawaase Mukasa defended himself by saying he was implementing the decision of the FSL Board that asked all the clubs not to honour league fixtures on Tuesday 24th February, 2015.

    The evidence was supported by the Chairperson of the FSL Board and other Board members who asserted that the Uganda Premier League is suspended yet FUFA had issued a circular number 1004 to the clubs to continue with league matches but not allow the broadcast of the games following an interim court order.
    In light of the above, the FUFA Disciplinary Committee came up with the following sanctions;

    • The clubs that did not appear before the disciplinary committee are cautioned.
    • Hajji Abbas Kawaase Mukasa’s suspension is lifted.
    • All the clubs that sanctioned the suspension of the league are fined a sum of 500,000/- each. The clubs are BUL FC, Sadolin FC, URA FC, Express FC, Sc Villa, Entebbe FC, Bright Stars FC, Vipers FC, KCC FC, SCVU and Rwenshama FC.
    • All the clubs that did not honour the fixtures of Tuesday 24th February, 2015, the Disciplinary committee confirms the decision made by the UPL Secretariat.

    The sanctions take immediate effect but parties have a right of appeal.
