  • Calmness is needed while implementing court orders

Court orders are meant to be followed. In most cases, court orders don’t target a particular group/individual but always affecting many of those associated to that project or person that it was served to.

In the current situation where the top flight league-in this case the Azam Uganda Premier League can’t be broadcast live on Azam TV- it is obvious that the clubs, players, officials, fans and FUFA get hurt.

One doesn’t need to be a lawyer to understand the football rules and regulations but our learned friends know that the sport has unique laws.

Ultimatums don’t develop the game of football but it is important to know that football has various structures in form of administration to be followed hence the authority.

The injunction on the termination of the contract between FUFA and USLL has led to the current impasse which can be manageable at all levels involving the clubs.

FUFA’s diplomatic directive and guidance to the clubs and officials on how to go about the current status on the broadcast of the UPL games, is the best way to bring the situation under control.

We all know that contempt of court has so many implications as some football leaders might easily find themselves behind the bars.

If the clubs go ahead and insist on broadcasting the UPL games, the big fish to land in trouble is FUFA and in particular its President Eng. Moses Magogo and CEO Edgar Watson.

It is true the injunction was served to FUFA but the clubs need to know as well that if the federation finds itself in trouble, clubs can’t go ahead with the project that led to the injunction.

FUFA is in control of the game of football in the country. However with the storm looking to be strong because of the halt on the start of broadcasting the UPL matches live on Azam TV, all parties involved need to understand the repercussions for contempt of court.

Would we want to see football administrators thrown behind bars for deliberate refusal to follow court orders? Let’s not get to those levels because football needs every one.

Calmness is key and should be preached among all members of the football fraternity.

  • FSL Board chairman summoned to FUFA Disciplinary Committee

The FSL Board chairman Hajji Abbas Kaawaase Mukasa has been suspended provisionally from undertaking any role in Association Football and also summoned him to the FUFA Disciplinary Committee.

The decision to suspend Kaawaase comes after he acted outside his mandate when he wrote a letter to the top tier clubs last week suspending the Uganda Premier League which action contravenes FUFA statutes, FUFA Regulations, Circulars, the FSL LTD statutes and FSL LTD Articles of Association.

    The FUFA Emergency committee has resolved that;

    1. The Uganda Premier League Secretariat headed by the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bainamani Bernard will continue running the League. The UPL secretariat shall report directly to the FUFA Chief Executive Officer.

    2. Under the circumstances, FSL roles as provided for in the Uganda Premier League Regulations 2014/2015 are hereby recalled.

    3. FUFA shall ensure fulfillment of the contractual obligations of FUFA and FSL Ltd to Azam Pay TV subject to the laws of the Republic of Uganda.

    4. That the Azam Uganda Premier League shall continue as per the fixture.

    5. Uganda Premier League clubs to disregard the letter written by the hitherto Chairman FSL board on 20th February 2015 purportedly “suspending’ the League by honouring the fixture schedule as the league continues and rules still in force.

UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE: Match Day 18 Preview for Tuesday Fixtures

After last week’s Friday and Saturday fixtures that smoothly progressed, the Uganda Premier League (UPL) returns on Tuesday with four of the match day 18 fixtures.

The other four games will be played on Friday (27th February 2015) at various venues.

After winning 0-1 away at Bugembe Stadium to Sadolin Paints last Saturday, Bright Stars Football club plays their first ever home game at the new Matugga stadium when Kira Young F.C (yet to play any second round game) travels for the away tie.

Goal keeper, Mathias Kigonya and right back, Joseph Nsubuga (from U-23 Uganda Kobs duty) are most likely to be unavailable due to fatigue.

Ironically, Kira Young will play Derrick Tekko (captain) and striker, Brian Nkuubi who were part of the Kobs’ away trip in Mozambique.

Left back Fred Nkata is expected to feature in his first game for Kira Young since transferring from SC Villa in the January window.

Lead goal keeper, Ashadu Bugembe will provide Kira Young the necessary back cover with striker Patrick Kaddu, new signing Yudah Mugalu and Nigerian import Lucky Bemidele leading the line.

With no injury concerns for Alex Isabirye’s side, URA is expected to line up a formidable line up, just after securing a last gasp equalizer against BUL F.C in the opener of the second round last Friday.

Yassar Mugerwa, Robert Sentongo, Patrick Ochan, wingers Peter Lwasa and either James Kasibante or Elukana Nkugwa will be URA’s talismanic symbols.
