A total of 13 goals were scored during week 8 of the Uganda Premier League fixtures held across the country.
Ibrahim Juma Saddam struck in the 9th minute to give high flying Vipers football club their 6th victory in 7 fixtures played so far in the Uganda Premier league.
Saddam’s goal won the game for the Buikwe based team over Sadolin paints to consolidate their leadership mantle at the summit of the table standings.
Vipers now has 19 points, 3 better of arch-rivals, SC Villa and Express who won with an identical 2 – 0 scoreline over Rwenshama and Entebbe teams respectively.
Defending champions, Kampala City Council football club overcame Sports Club Victoria University 3 – 0 at their Lugogo fotress.
Youngester, Derrick Nsibambi notched a brace before Tom Matisko condemned last season’s runners up to their third defeat of the campaign.
In the Mityana derby, defender Musa Docca’s penalty after 28 minutes put the 16 time record champions, SC Villa in a first half lead over Rwenshama, with whom they share the playing ground.
Nigerian import, Victor Emenayo put the game beyond Rwenshama’s control 22 minutes into the second half to give SC Villa and coach Sam Ssimbwa another reason to smile enroute their 17th title quest.
At Wankulukuku stadium, striker Emma Kalyowa, a second half replacement and team skipper, Willy Kavuma scored to dump Matia Lule’s Entebbe in the relegation zone.
The biggest shock of the week 8 games was registered in Lugazi at the Mehta Stadium.
URA was held at home by a struggling side, Soana to a 1 all draw.
The affair was solved in the opening first half an hour of action.
Uganda Cranes striker, Robert Ssentongo put the home side 15 minutes into the game to take his personal tally of the campaign to 7.
Rashid Kyambadde however had other reasons altogether with the equalizing effort on the 27th minute mark.
Away in Jinja, home side coached by Uganda Cranes assistant coach, Kefa Kisala needed a 30th minute penalty from a limping Farouk Wejuli Osama to brush aside Lweza, who traveled with a mammoth crowd.
Osama was later replaced by Okello Tito in the second stanza of the game.
At Namboole Stadium, Kira Young coached by the veteran duo of Paul Nkata and Moses Basena had no kind words for Bright Stars’ new coach, Fred Kajoba.
Kira defeated the Kawempe based outfit, who finished 10 men (after Joseph Nsubuga was sent for an early shower) by a narrow 1 – 0 victory courtesy of striker Moses Ndawula.
Ndawula scored just after a minute of the game’s restart from the first half break.
The game was however characterized by shocking news of a terrible injury Mathias Kigonya, Bright Stars goal keeper suffered when he collided with Kira Young skipper, Baker Lukooya.
However, with the fast steady high class medical attention Kigonya was accorded, his condition is now out of danger.
In the game of the forces, Simba overcame a 10 man Police F.C team 1 – 0 at Kavumba Recreational Stadium.
Frank Kawesa scored 15 minutes to full time to give Harunah Kebba, the new coach at Simba a winning start.
Police’s Edward Nkume was red carded for unsporting conduct.
The league will take a week’s break to allow preparations for Uganda Cranes international build up against Ethiopia on Sunday, 9th November 2014 and the subsequent group E qualifier with Ghana on the 15th November at Namboole.
