  • UPL: SC Villa Awarded Points of Aborted Tie With Express F.C

The verdict for the aborted Uganda Premier League fixture number 37 between SC Villa and Express has been passed in favour of the former.

Ruling awards SC Villa three points and three goals following the violence that led to the abandonment of the match at Mityana Ssaza grounds last week.

‘This is to inform you that the Uganda Premier League Management has considered match officials’ reports and decided that Express FC looses the match by forfeiture (3-0)”, read the official statement released by the UPL Chief Executive Officer, Bainamani Bernard Bampaire.

With SC Villa having three points, they are now the current table leaders (with 13 points), just a point ahead of Police F.C.

The aborted match followed incidences of violet fans pelting missiles onto the playing area with about 5 minutes to full time (SC Villa was leading 2 -1).
‘This decision (awarding Villa  3 points and 3 goals ) has been taken in accordance with Article 32(1) of FUFA Competitions Rules 2014/2015. The reports indicate that the fans of the visiting team consistently threw stones on the field of play (Express FC fans started throwing stones in the 31st minute after SC Villa had scored, after they scored the second goal the stone
throwing intensified) which culminated into a lot of tear gas being fired hence forcing the referee to abandon the match in the 77th minute of play”, the report says.
This sporting decision has been taken in the interest of protecting the image of the league.

The statement further indicates that the Individuals mentioned in the match reports in regard to the disciplinary matters have been forwarded to the FUFA Disciplinary Committee and their verdict too will be passed in the shortest time possible.

The Cranes who had a two man attack of captain Geoffrey Massa and Brian Umony played calmly and to the instructions of their head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic in the first half as it ended goalless.

The Tottenham Hotspurs striker was on show again immediately after that action as he beat the Cranes defence from the right side only for midfielder Khalid Aucho to clear the ball off the line.

The second half kicked off on a high tempo with Togo making attack after attack but Kabugo and Isaac Isinde were on show again with great displays as they were protected by midfielders Tony Mawejje and Kizito Geoffrey.

Substitute Brian Majwega (on for Brian Umony) had the game’s best chance or Uganda Cranes as he was fed by LKizito Luwagga in the penalty area with just a keeper to beat but made too many touches  with the ball to allow keeper Djehani N’guissan Yao to get better of it.

In Love with my country: Bebe Cool clad in a Cranes jersey will help to promote the Uganda Cranes brand
In Love with his country: Bebe Cool clad in a Cranes jersey. He called Cranes in Lome to wish them the best against Togo today.

‘I believe in the boys. Let them treat this match like a cup final and give in 100%’ They need to keep away from the pressure and concentrate on the game for 90 minutes’ said Bebe Cool.

Bebe Cool also had a conversation with Massa whom he urged to tell his teammates that they need to forget about what happened last saturday at Namboole.

‘Football is a funny game. It is not a straight forward game. We dominated Togo but ended on the losing side. We can bounce back. It was their day and now we need to deliver today’ added Bebe Cool who had just landed in Uganda from his tour of the Scandinavia.

Bebe Cool was appointed Uganda Cranes Ambassador by FUFA.
