Sula Kamoga – CEO, Wakiso Giants FC

“ The instructors put emphasis on governance structures of clubs, an aspect we tend to ignore as Ugandan Clubs. Once we improve on the governance of our clubs then the future is bright. Uganda Hippos Eye AFCON spot in Semifinal Clash Against Hosts Tanzania

Uganda Hippos will take on hosts Tanzania on Friday, at the KMC Stadium in a highly anticipated semifinal of the CECAFA AFCON U20 Zonal Qualifiers.

A victory for either team will secure them a spot at the AFCON U20 final tournament slated for January next year in Ivory Coast.

The Hippos head into this clash unbeaten, having topped Group B with seven points from three matches while Tanzania finished second in Group A, behind Kenya.

Uganda’s head coach, Mathias Lule and team captain Toto Majub, both predict a tough and physical encounter given Tanzania’s home advantage.

However, they remain confident about emerging victorious and booking their place in the final tournament.

“I believe we are in perfect shape to face Tanzania. I know it is never easy to play against hosts but we have prepared the team well to execute the task at hand.” Said Lule.

On the other hand, skipper Majub said, “ we want to qualify for AFCON and that is our target as players. We are confident and optimistic that this will happen.”

All eyes will be on the tournament’s standout performer, forward John Paul Dembe who has netted four goals for the Hippos thus far.

The team is also aiming to win this trophy for a third consecutive time having triumphed in the previous two editions held in Tanzania and Sudan in 2020 and 2022 respectively.

Should the game end in a draw after normal time, extra time will be played to determine the winner.

Both finalists will secure automatic qualification to the AFCON U20 final tournament.

  • Uganda Cranes edge closer to AFCON 2025 qualification with victory away to South Sudan

Uganda Cranes edge closer to AFCON 2025 qualification with victory away to South Sudan

Uganda Cranes moved closer to earning qualification to Africa Cup of Nations 2025 after securing a 2-1 win over South Sudan at Juba Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite a heavy downpour that ascended to Juba both before and during the game, Uganda showed character to secure all three points.

Ugandans in South Sudan turned up in big numbers and indeed made their presence felt amidst the harsh weather conditions.

Coach Paul Put made three changes from the team that had started at Mandela National Stadium last week.

Taddeo Lwanga, Allan Okello and Derrick Nsibambi all started ahead of Ronald Ssekiganda, Travis Mutyaba and Jude Ssemugabi.

Right from onset, Uganda proved the stronger side and made several inroads at the South Sudan goal.

The pressure eventually yielded fruits at the quarter hour mark when Denis Omedi was at the end of a well structured move.

Okello drove towards goal from the right wing and his through pass met Omedi who fired a low drive into the back of the net.

The lead however lasted a few minutes with South Sudan equalizing through Yohanna Paulinho.

At the start of the second half, coach Put made a change, introducing Mutyaba in place of Okello.

The change paid off with Mutyaba’s delivery from a free kick in the 65th minute headed by Ssemugabi before deflecting off South Sudan’s Alfred Leku into the back of the net.

The Uganda Cranes held onto the lead throughout the remaining minutes to eventually claim victory.

The result means Uganda leads Group K on 10 points and need just a point from the remaining two games.

The next window in November will see Uganda hosting South Africa on 15th November before ending the campaign away to Congo.

She Maroons FC 0-1 Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC

Uganda Martyrs finally picked their first win of the season, after overcoming newly promoted FC Tooro Queens on matchday three.

In the game played on Saturday at the Bugolobi Coffee Grounds, Uganda Martyrs nicked a hard fought 1-0 win courtesy of Auki Kigongo.

The result gave Lubaga a sigh of relief following their dismal performance in the opening two games which they lost to She Corporate FC and She Maroons FC.

Reigning Champions continued with their impressive start to the new season, picking their third win in as many games.

The Valley Warriors overcame She Maroons 1-0 in Luzira on Sunday thanks to Shadia Nabirye’s early strike.

Agnes Nabukenya had an opportunity to get onto the score sheet for Kawempe but she missed her strike from the spot.

The other games played on Matchday three ended in draws with Kampala Queens playing out a barren draw at Makerere University.

Rines SS had to rally from a goal down to salvage a point against Amus College. Shayline Opisa had given Amus the lead but Phiona Arach levelled matters in the second half.

Wakiso Hill WFC and Lady Doves also played out a one-all draw with Anita Tezikya scoring for the former while Lydia Nyandera got the goal for visiting Lady Doves.

Action continues this weekend with matchday four action from various grounds.

AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Uganda Cranes edge South Sudan at Namboole

Uganda Cranes earned a slim win over neighbours South Sudan on Friday at Mandela National Stadium to keep the dream of participating at the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations alive.

In a closely contest game played under the floodlights, Bevis Mugabi’s sole strike in the second half eventually separated the two teams.

Uganda started the better side and created several chances with Rogers Mato, Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi all coming close in intervals.

However, South Sudan defended resiliently to keep Uganda at bay in the opening 45 minutes.

The breakthrough and eventual decider came two minutes after recess when Mugabi pounced onto a rebound from close range.

Substitute Allan Okello who came on alongside Bobosi Byaruhanga just after the break in place of Travis Mutyaba and Ronald Ssekiganda respectively provided the much needed spark.

Okello’s short corner kick was well received by Omedi who returned the pass to the former and Mugabi was well stationed to connect home after South Sudan’s goalkeeper had saved the initial headed effort from Ssemugabi.

Despite efforts from South Sudan to salvage a point in the closing stages, Uganda Cranes defended resiliently to bag all three points.

Defender Halidi Lwaliwa had to make a goal line clearance to deny South Sudan deep in stoppage time.

The result means Uganda and South Africa lead group K on seven points apiece while Congo and South Sudan have three and zero points respectively.

Uganda and South Sudan will face off again on Tuesday next week at Juba Stadium.
