    Nile Basin Cecafa 2014 Clubs’ Football Tournament:

    Sports Club Victoria University (Uganda) 3 – 0 Polisi (Zanzibar)

    Al Merriehk (Sudan) 4 – 2 Malakia (South Sudan)

    A 10 man Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) beat Zanzibar’s Polisi f.c 3 – 0 to progress to the quarterfinals of the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin cup in Sudan.

    A brace from midfielder, Jackson Kibirige and Muzamiru Mutyaba helped the Ugandan side progress.

    Mutyaba, who later saw red from Ethiopian referee Tadesse Belay for indecent conduct opened the scoring with a well taken penalty in the 39th minute of the game.

    Jackson Kibirige (played the 2013/14 season on loan at Bul-Bidco) scored another penalty on 45 minutes before he notched his second on the day 3 minutes into the second stanza of the game.

    Coach Morley Byekwaso made 5 changes from the team that drew goalless with Al Merriek in the second game.

    Goalkeeper, Kimera Ali started ahead of Benjamin Ochan, Agadu Fred replaced Denis Okot, Hamuza Delu for Juuko Murushid, Dan Opolot Isiagi for Brian Toorach while two goal hearo, Jackson Kibirige was picked ahead of Yasser Mugerwa.

    Al Merreikh finished as group A winners after winning 4 – 2 over South Sudanese side, Malakia.

    SCVU progress to last 8 stage as runners up while Malakia who won over Polisi will make it to quarters for been credited as the second runners up team in the group.
    Group games continue on Wednesday.
    The tourney winners will bag USD 60,000, first runners up will take home 20,000 while the second runners up will pocket 10,000.

    The Minister of state for sports Hon Charles Bakkabulindi paid the Uganda Cranes an official visit today just before the players got down to rigorous drills at Mandela National stadium, Namboole in preparation for the weekend game against Madagascar.

    Bakkabulindi was received by the FUFA President Engineer Moses Magogo as the players continued with the tune up to the 2015 AFCON return leg second round qualifier with   Magagascar on 31st May, 2014 at Namboole.

    Bakkabulindi gave the Cranes Ten million shillings (Shs 10M) which was received by senior player Denis Onyango. ‘It is a small token which we want you to share before the game on Saturday. Let’s hope this will motivate you’ said Bakkabulindi who was flanked by National council of sports officials –General Secretary Jasper Aligawesa, Chairman Bosco Onyiki and his personal assistant Fred Kateregga.

    The FUF President assured the minister that the team is capable of overturning the 2-1 deficit and book a place in the next round. ‘We have the capability and means to beat our opponents on Saturday; said Magogo.

    The head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich revealed that he is happy with the attitude and commitment shown by his players in camp. ‘Every player present here is ready to play against Madagascar. They are motivated and will deliver come the weekend’ said Micho.   The match tickets are already on market.

    FUFA Unveils Uganda Cranes Home Kit

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has today unveiled the Uganda Cranes latest home kit.

    Addressing journalists at the launch of the new uniform, FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza said the new design is in line with FUFA’s latest policy of rebranding.

    The home kit is red shirt (with a yellow strip that runs on the left side from top to bottom), black shorts and red socking.

    It also has the Uganda National flag.

    So far, the federation is still in negotiations with an official and international kit manufacturer to dress the National team.

    The function was witnessed by Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel led by Brand and Communications Manager Alex wekoye, FUFA team of Kiiza, Patrick Ogwel and Ahmed Hussein plus head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich.

    Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel Uganda have today launched a new campaign drive code named ‘Uganda cranes. Together We Can’.

    The launch took place at Mandela National stadium, Namboole board room, shortly after the national team’s morning training session.

    ‘We are energizing all the efforts to see a successful campaign ahead of the upcoming 2015 AFCON finals in Morocco next year’ said Airtel’s brand and communications manager Alex Wekoye.

    Several media campaigns have been planned to sensitize the public about the upcoming game with the Madagascar Barea Stars, who will arrive on Thursday evening.

    Large advertising bill boards, print, on-line, radio and television media drives have been well planned.

    ‘We have strategically designed to air the message out in several vernacular languages, those understood by the local communities’ added Wekoye.

    Buganda Region : Nakaseke International School (Boys) and Janani s.s (Girls)

    Federation of Uganda Football Federation Associations (FUFA) Vice President in charge of Administration, Darious Mugoye has showered praise of the on going Airtel Rising stars Under 17 football tournament.

    “Having such a nationwide youth football tournament is a great sign that the talents of many youngsters will be identified early and groomed to help them assimilate into the available clubs and junior national teams”, he said.

    Mugoye, who was speaking at the the closure of the Buganda regional tournament at Luwero main stadium, also thanked the sponsors, Airtel Uganda for investing in the youth.

    “This investment in youth football is a worthwhile project. As FUFA, we are 100% behind it and we shall offer the best support possible’ he added.

    The 3 day event was won by Nakaseke International School in the boy’s category while Janani beat Entebbe Creamland 3 – 0 in the finals to take the girls’ main prize.

    Another Federation official present was Dr. Patrick Ogwel. Sports Minister for Buganda Kingdom, Owek. Henry Ssekabembe was chief guest.

    The tournament is played in all the 8 regions of FUFA, from where different teams participate.

    Special football scouts and coaches like Frank Video Anyau, Phillip Obwinyi, Hakim Magumba, Christine Wanyana, Majiah Nantanda, Hadijah Namuyanja are tasked to identify the excelling players per region.

    The 8 regions will then play at the national finals by the end of June 2014 from where a select side will be picked to represent Uganda at a training camp in Gabon later in the year.

    The national finals for this year will be held in Fortportal.

    This same crop of players is being looked at representing Uganda at the U-17 Championships to be held by Niger in 2015.

    The tourney, making its 4th year since inception is bankrolled by Airtel Uganda, the main sponsors of Uganda football national team, The Cranes.

    They also sponsor the FUFA Big league. Other partners in the Rising stars programme are Rwenzori Mineral Water and FUFA.

    Nile Basin Tournament:

    SCVU 0 – 0 Al Merreikh

    Uganda’s ambassadors at the 2014 CECAFA Nile Basin football tournament, Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) held Sudanese power horse, Al Merreikh to a non scoring draw on Sunday.

    Despite missing Noah Ssemakula (injured during first game against Malakia), Dan Nsubuga (left in Uganda with Knee injury), Denis Iguma and Savio Kabugo (with national team, The Cranes), SCVU played gallantly to hold the highly fancied and facilitated team.

    The draw means that SCVU goes to 4 points, same as Al Merriek who beat Zanzibar’s Polisi in the opener on Friday.

    SCVU had beaten South Sudan side, Malakia in the team’s narrow 1 – 0 victory on Friday.

    Defender Murushid Jjuuko got SCVU’s only goal after just 12 minutes.

    They will get back into action against Polisi on Tuesday evening hoping for just a draw to progress to the last 8.

    YOUTH FOOTBALL: Kids of Arua FC triumph in City Tyres Chenga U-14

    Final: Kids of Arua 1 – 0 Nebbi Junior FC

    The Kids of Arua booked a place in the National championship finals of the City Tyres Chenga U- 14 Challenge following a 1-0 win over Nebbi Junior FC 1-0.

    The Arua regional finals were played at Arua Public primary school playground on Saturday.

    Earlier Kids of Arua had eliminated Koboko 1-0 in the semifinals with a solitary strike from Francis Echoni and Nebbi also beat Onduparaka Academy on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time.

    They won 4-2 to book a final slot with hosts Arua Kids.
    Mubarak Kakooza scored for Arua with 3 minutes to full time to send the home fans into jubilations.

    Next regional qualifiers on the weekend of 31st May will be hosted in Masaka.
    The Kids of Arua now qualify for the national championships due August in Masaka district.

    The Uganda Cranes official sponsors-Airtel together with FUFA will hold a press conference on Monday 26th May, 2014 at 11.30am shortly after the training session.

    With just five days left to the return leg second round of the 2015 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Saturday at Namboole stadium, the telecom giants will be unveiling some of their plans for the promotion in the the build up to the game.

    Cranes need a 1-0 win to advance to the next stage after losing 2-1 in the first leg.

    FUFA Big League concludes, Lweza are champions

    Lweza FC defeated Sadolin Bugembe FC 2-1 to lift the FUFA Big League title at the KCCA Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday evening. Saadi Kibirango and Francis Sembatya netted the goals for Lweza in a match officiated by Ali Kalyango who later announced his retirement from refereeing.

    Both Lweza and Sadolin were already guaranteed of top flight football after topping their respective groups (Rwenzori and Elgon) of the regular season. They were joined by Rwenshama who beat Kirinya/Jinja SS FC 3-2 in a match that decided the third team to join the FUFA Super League next season.

    The winner of the Big League title was given a cash prize of 3.6 Million shillings from Airtel as part of the deal they signed with FUFA last year. The telecom giants also paid for the referees officiating fees for the entire season. Airtel also gave cash prizes to the individual winners of different categories.

    FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye was the Chief Guest while the Airtel’s head of Branding and Communications Alex Wekoye represented the company.

    On the final day awards were given to different individuals for the exemplary performance during the 2013/2014 FUFA Big League Season.

  • FUFA joins football fraternity in mourning Semugabi

     

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has received shocking news about the death of former Uganda Cranes star Owekitibwa Jimmy Bakyayita Semugabi.

    Semugabi passed away yesterday with initial reports linking his death to heart failure.

    ‘It is sad to lose a football administrator and former Cranes star who served his country wholeheartedly.  These are trying moments for the football fraternity following the death of Mr. Semugabi. The federation extends its sympathies to his family, friends and football fraternity’ said FUFA President Engineer Moses Magogo who is away on an official trip in Switzerland.

    The departed legend was part of the Uganda Cranes side in the 50s and 60s. Semugabi who played for Express FC ad other clubs in Uganda featured for the National team in the 1962 Nations cup finals in Ethiopia.  He coached Coffee FC and led team to Uganda cup glory in 1971. His glittering administration career also saw him manage the Uganda Cranes.

    2014 CECAFA Nile Basin Tourney:

    Victoria University (Uganda) 1 – 0 Malakia (South Sudan)

    Uganda’s representatives, Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) at the 2014 CECAFA Nile Basin football tournament kick started the tournament on a high note with a victory over South Sudan’s Malakia football club on Friday.

    Defender Murushid Jjuuko scored the team’s lone strike in the 12th minute of the game.

    They play El Merriek on Sunday before facing Polisi on Tuesday. El Merriek won their first game 3 – 0 against Zanzibar’s Polisi.

    The winners of the tournament will pocket a total lump sum of USD 60,000.

    Runners up will get USD 20,000 while the third placed one will get USD 10,000.

    Ahead of the return leg for the AFCON 2015 nations cup return leg qualifier against Uganda, the Madagascar Barea stars have confirmed they will arrive in Uganda via Entebbe International Airport on 29th May at 6.55pm aboard Kenya airways.

    They carry a slim 2 – 1 lead from the first leg. The Barea stars will leave Uganda on 1st June after the game.

    Egyptian Officials were confirmed to be in Charge for the return leg. FIFA referee Mohamed Farouk Mahmoud will be center referee, assisted by Ahamed Abou Elela and Ahamed Saha Hasaneen as first and second assistants respectively while Mohamed Abud Elmenen Hanafy are the game’s 4th official.

    Sudanese Osama Ataa Elman Hussein will be the match commissioner of the fixture to be played at Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

    Egyptian Officials in Charge

    FIFA approved referees from Egypt have been handed the mantle to officiate the return leg between hosts, Uganda and the Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar.
    FIFA referee Mohamed Farouk Muhamoud is the center official.
    The 44 year old referee, who doubles as a financial accountant of International Company of food industry in Egypt, will officiate the Cranes for the second time in two years.
    The veteran referee officiated a game involving Uganda in a World Cup qualifier played in Free town against Liberia in early 2013.
    Mohamoud is being assisted by Ahamed Abou Elela and Ahamed Saha Hasaneen as first and second assistants respectively while Mohamed Abud Elmenen Hanafy are the game’s 4th official.
    Sudanese Osama Ataa Elman Hussein is the commissioner of match.
    South African referees handled the 1st leg played over the weekend in Mahajanga province where Madagascar beat Uganda 2-1.
    Cranes need a 1-0 win to progress to next round while the former needs a draw or better also to proceed.

    FUFA BIG LEAGUE PLAY- OFF RESULTS:

    KJT/Rwenshama f.c 2 – 0 Mutundwe Lions f.c

    Jinja s.s/Kirinya f.c 2 – 0 Baza Holdings f.c

    KJT/Rwenshama and Jinja s.s/Kirinya football clubs will vie for the final slot available for next season’s FUFA Super League.

    This is after the two sides recorded an identical 2 – 0 scoreline in the semi finals of the play – offs played at the KCCA Stadium in Lugogo on Wednesday.

    Jinja s.s/Kirinya football club were the first team to book the final slot after dismissing Baza Holdings 2- 0 in the earlier match played.

    A first half brace from striker, John Wakalita got the Jinja based side on course in a match watched by a cheering gathering.

    “It was a great display and character from the boys. Hopefully, we pick up from that in the final”, Jinja s.s manager, Samuel Mugabi said.

    In the second match of the day, KJT/Rwenshama overcame a hard fighting Mutundwe Lions f.c.

    Former Proline striker, Sulaiman Luzige capitalized on a blunder from goal keeper, Meddie Kibirige to tap into an empty net in the 41st minute.

    Striker, Ronnie Kakoote made it two a minute to full time after diverting Emma Magembe’s delivery into the area.

    The two sides (KJT/Rwenshama and Jinja s.s/Kirinya) will now vie for the last available place for the third team to enter the highest football league in Uganda.

    “The players played according to instructions, but now there is an important game of the season to play on Saturday”, KJT coach, Ronald Ssali told fufa.co.ug.

    Sadolin Paints and Lweza already booked their tickets to play in next season’s FUFA Super league.

    The official ticket prices for the return leg between Uganda Cranes and Madagascar set for 31st May 2014 at Mandela National stadium Namboole been released.

    Speaking at the weekly FUFA press conference in Mengo, Finance Director Decolas Kiiza urged the fans to secure tickets from designated selling points to avoid buying fake tickets.

    Tickets for the open stands will cost 20,000 while 50,000 is the tag attached to the VIP.

    Fans at the VVIP wing will have to secure the Gold tickets at 120,000/=.

    ‘We urge the fans to cheer the national team in big numbers. We advise them to buy the tickets from genuine selling points because every ticket will be verified at the entrance’ said Kiiza .

    The press conference was also attended by FUFA Marketing Manager Esther Musoke, Cranes head coach Milutin’Micho; Sredojevich and the team’s media officer Fred Katende.

    Tickets go on sale this Friday 23rd May, 2014

    (Uganda needs a 1-0 win to advance to the third round)

    Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevich has called for calmness ahead of the return leg of the AFCON 2015 second round qualifier at Mandel National stadium, Namboole on Saturday 31st May 2014.

    ‘We traveled to Madagascar for the first leg which we unfortunately lost. We shall remain focused and look forward to overturning the result at Namboole Stadium”, Micho told the media at the weekly press conference held at FUFA headquarters in Mengo on Wednesday.

    The Cranes players who resume training on Wednesday evening will be engaged in the return leg on 31st May 2014 at Namboole Stadium.

    Micho expects the return of experienced players-striker Geofrey Massa and goal keeper Robert Odongkara who were both injured and missed the first leg.

    On left back position Micho clarified that Godfrey Walsuimbi will still be sidelined as CAF asserted that he has to miss two phyiscally played games from the red card he picked up against Senegal during the 2014 FIFA cup qualification campaign.

    The head coach also promised a positive return leg where attack and defense will be the foundation to ensure progress to the next round where the winner faces Eqautorial Guinea or Mauritania.  Mauritania won the first leg 1 – 0 at home.

    The federation has already engaged Denis Onyango’s South African club and Tonny Mawejje ‘s Norwegian team  to ensure they release  the players for the upcoming game.
