CAF Champions League Return leg, First round
8th March, 2014 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole

When KCC FC march onto the Mandela national stadium turf, Namboole tomorrow to face Nkana FC in a CAF champions league return leg first round engagement, all odds will be against them due to a rich history Nkana enjoys here in Uganda.
Having secured a memorable 2-2 draw away in Kitwe, KCC will start with an edge over Nkana FC however caution must be in KCC FC;s plans for the match as Nkana FC has never lost a CAF engagement in Uganda.
Nkana’s last three Continental games here in Kampala, all ended in their favour. KCC FC technical bench led by George Nsimbe must be aware of this record. Nsimbe will not entertain complacency in the camp.
Nkana’s first CAF engagement in Uganda was in 1993 against the mighty SC Villa with the likes of Kirunda Jimmy, John Jumba, Late Shaban Mwinda and Kasirye Jamil all at their peaks. Villa were nplayable on the local season as they had won the League title unbeaten in the 1982 season.
On match day against Nkana, the Ugandan side lost 2-1 to the Red devils at Nakivubo. Nkana completed the job in Kitwe with a 4-0 mauling to qualify 6-1 on aggregate.
Nkana’s next visit was against Express FC in 1990 in the Cup Winners cup return leg tie after Express had put up a formidable resistance away in Zambia before finally losing 3-1 with Umar Senoga’s consolation goal giving the red army fans some hope. Express needed a 2-0 score line to qualify to the next round but Nkana had different ideas in the return leg at Nakivubo stadium as they won 1-0 to advance 4-1 on aggregate.
Nkana’s last visit here was in 1992 when they played KCC FC in a CAF club championship now CAF champions league first round first leg encounter at Nakivubo stadium.
KCC went into this match with Tom Lwanga as interim coach after Bernarbas Mwesiga’s resignation following a 5-0 drubbing by SC Villa in a league match at Masaka recreation ground just four days to Nkana’s arrival.
KCC fielded one of their strongest line ups where Sadiq Wassa (after overcoming a bout of malaria) stood between the posts, Senkubuge Moses at right back, Masiko Charles father to Masiko Tom who was sent off in Kitwe played at the left back with the partnership of Muyanja Derrick and Kavule David in central defence completing the backline. The midfield had current KCC FC coach George Nsimbe, Sam Simbwa, Kinyera Charles and Kisekka Julius who were assigned to supply ammunition to the front runners Jalendo Charles & Mayanja Jackson in a 4-4-2 formation.
KCC had a decent first 45 minutes missing a couple of chances before finally succumbing to Nkana’s might in the second half when Beston Chambeshi’s brace plus a goal apiece by Kenneth Malitoli and Ziziwe helped Nkana to a 4-0 rout.
Nkana’s would be fourth visit in Uganda was cut short in 2001 when their opponents in the CAF Cup Winners cup first round second leg tie Military Police pulled out citing lack of funds interestingly after travelling for the first leg in Kitwe where they had lost 3-0 with Sam Simbwa as head coach. Current KCC FC assistant coach Abdallah Mubiru was in the Military side.
Statistically, Nkana FC have all reasons to believe in themselves but KCC FC are mentally, psychologically and physically ready for the tie.
Furthermore, KCC once achieved such an identical result away in Cairo in 1983 against Arab Contractors of Egypt in the Cup Winners Cup engagement after goals by Kyazze Frank and Mugambe Sam secured a rare 2-2 away draw in North Africa. Expectations were thus raised like it is now however history shows that after taking a two goal advantage with strikes from Omondi Phillip and Ssentamu Moses, KCC blew it in the last 3 minutes of normal time.
With minutes ticking away, Arab Contractors pulled a goal back from a header resulting from a free kick which many took to be a consolation goal however, laxity of Yusuf Ssonko allowed Abdul Razak to intercept a feeble back pass to Umbwa Kali Wandyete Peter who handled in the forbidden area resulting into a penalty in the last seconds of the debacle, under such circumstances, Arabs take no chances and the penalty was coolly converted for the score to lead 2-2.
In the spot kicks, KCC missed the first 3 through Nsereko Moses, Ssonko Yusuf & Latigo John before Ssentamu Moses converted the fourth which was a little too late to salvage KCC’s chances of progressing, Arab Contractors therefore won the tie 3-1 via a penalty shoot-out after a 4-4 aggregate score in both legs.
With such a background, KCC FC need not to be reminded that it’s not over until it’s over.
Friday Fixtures: FUFA Super League
Soana v Kira Young
Entebbe v Vipers
Bright Stars v CRO
BUL v Simba
History favors Entebbe FC ahead of their fixture with Vipers FC in the FUFA super League at Wankulukuku stadium. But whisper this to your friend-Entebbe FC is the only team yet to win a game in the FUFA Super League this season. Two wins for Entebbe FC and a draw is what the statistics read. But Vipers who are neck to neck with URA FC in the title race this season, they don’t want to drop any more points. Last week, Vipers dropped two crucial points against newcomers Bright stars FC in Kitende. But with history against them, they will need to be careful when seeking their first win over Entebbe who are trying to fight for their dear lives in the top flight.
Like it has been in the past three meetings, Vipers started the game as favorites but the results read differently.
Vipers has been undergoing rigorous training sessions and they need to reclaim top position they lost to URA FC after their hard earned 1-1 draw with Express FC.
Vipers are haunted by the jinx of having not beaten Entebbe ever since the latter joined the top flight ranks.
With the team news, Entebbe Fc will miss only one player Siraje Ssentamu who is suspension following his double caution against Masaka LC. Head coach Matia Lule should be buoyed by a healthy squad free from injuries.
The Vipers squad has Watenga Ismail who is set to maintain his slot in the goal posts while Malunda Musa shifts to the right back position in the absence of Wadada Nicholas who arrives tonight from Zambia after playing for Uganda Cranes in an international friendly. Seku Ronald will partner Ssali Edward in central defence after suspension & injury lay off respectively.
Vipers will also welcome back Ssentamu Yunus who has been sidelined by malaria together with Simon Serunkuuma who missed the match against Bright Stars match due a knock he picked up during training prior to Viper’s last match.
Kimuli Robert, Baliinya Juma, Muhammed Abdallah, Mpande Joseph together with Okhuti Ceasar and Miya Farouq are also available for selection.
Man to watch: Kinene Yusuf – He has scored for Entebbe in each of the previous three meetings against Vipers scoring 4 goals in the process. Vipers’ defenders must be on alert.
Past meetings:
2012/13 First round – Vipers 1-2 Entebbe
2012/13 Second round – Entebbe 2-0 Vipers
2013/14 First round – Vipers 1-1 Entebbe
The FUFA Competitions Committee has made a number of fixture readjustments due to different reasons.
1. The FUFA Super League champions KCC FC are due to host Nkana FC of Zambia in the CAF
Champions League first round second leg on Saturday 8th March 2014 at Mandela National
Stadium, Namboole.
2. Saturday 8th March 2014 is International Women’s day and there will be celebrations across the country and playing fields are possible venues of any such festivities.
3. Mutundwe Lions’ home ground at Lubiri SS will not be available during week days.
In the circumstances, therefore;
1. All matches earlier scheduled for Saturday 8th March 2014 will be played on Sunday 9th March
2014 at the same time and venues earlier communicated.
2. Matches involving Mutundwe Lions FC earlier scheduled on Thursdays have been adjusted to
Saturdays and a number of changes made to other fixtures in the Rwenzori Group.

Zambia 2-1 Uganda
Goals: Evans Kangwa for Zambia, Hamis Kiza-Uganda
Uganda Cranes created a few chances that could have won them the game against Zambia but the 2-1 win in favor of the hosts means that the Cranes are still searching for their first win over Chipolopolo at the Levi Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola. With both teams fielding strong squads for the FIFA sanctioned international friendly competitiveness was expected to be the order of the day. However the first half ended goalless with a few highlights that saw striker Emmanuel Okwi and Zambia keeper Kennedy Mweene clash as they both come out for a cross.
Mweene came out of the challenge with an injury and play was stopped. He was later stretchered off and replaced by Joshua Titima.
The last five minutes of the first half were evenly contested with Uganda defending in numbers and playing a pressing game whenever they lost the ball.
The opening 45 minutes also saw Cranes Captain Andy Mwesigwa pick up a yellow card. Earlier in the first half to be exact on seven minutes, Okwi created space on the left flank and shot wide from close range.
But deadly striker Christopher Katongo weaved through Uganda defence but his effort was blocked.
The second half produced three goals. Cranes Yanga African striker Hamis Kiza who came on as second half substitute gave Uganda the lead on 52 minutes.
Midfield general Rainford Kalaba shot wide across the face of goal narrowly missing the target after being set up by Chris Katongo. But the evening belonged to two goal hero Evans Kangwa who was a thorn in the Ugandan defence as he netted on 65 and 76 minutes against Robert Odongkara who replaced Denis Onyango two minutes into the second half.
The team returns on Friday morning.

Round of 32
Lweza 1-0 Bright Stars FC
Entebbe 0 (4)-0 (5) Police
Round of 64
Amuria Crane City 0-5 SCVU
Kumi vs VCC ( VCC never showed up in Kumi)
The biggest shock on the opening day of the round of 32 in the Uganda cup happened just a few miles away from the Ugandan capital-Kampala. Usually on average , the distance from Kampala to Kajansi-the venue that hosted the Uganda cup game between Lweza Fc and FUFA Super League side takes about 20 minutes. However John Wisley netted the only goal of the game for the home side to eject Bright Stars FC from the tournament played on a knock out basis. Wisley’s goal came exactly three minutes to full time to send the home fans in jubilation as they progressed to the round of 16.
In Bugonga, Entebbe FC failed to impress their home fans just like their league record remains wanting. Taking the game nearer to their fans today, they were hoping for a change in fortune for better results. They instead bowed out 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw.
The day also saw teh completion of two games in the round of 64. In Amuria, defending champions Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) showed class as Torach Brian grabbed the first hat trick of this season’s tournament while Martin Mpuga and Nsubuga Daniel got the other goals. SCVU who beat Amuria Crane 5-0 have now progressed to the round of 32 and will play Ndejje University in Luweero.
The other game that had been lined up for the day was between Kumi University against Village Club California (VCC). The visitors VCC failed to show up in Kumi. The FUFA competitions Committee will pronounce itself on this game after receiving teh referees report.
Photo: Lweza FC fans religiously follow their club wherever they go. Here they are seen supporting their team against Mutundwe Lions in the FUFA Big League. The huge support in Kajansi today helped them beat Bright stars FC 1-0 in the Uganda cup.
Tuesday Full Time results
Express FC 1-1 URA FC
Proline 0-1 Sc Villa
URA Football club have gone joint top of the table with Vipers on a better goal difference following a 1-1 draw with Express FC at wankulukuku stadium today in the FUFA Super League. Sam Seknoomi netted the game’s opening goal after the break but Allan Kyambadde who was part of the Uganda Cranes squad in the CHAN finals in South Africa cancelled out the taxpayers lead. URA missed the chance to break away from Vipers with two points. The result leaves both URA and Vipers on 36 points each. URA’s goal difference of 19 is better than that of Vipers (14). Express moved just one place to 12th as they dislodged Proline to drop a place down to 13th but both are tied on 16 points with the red eagles having a better goal difference though still in negative.
At KCCA stadium, Proline’s search for their first win of the second round still goes on. This evening they were beaten 1-0 by SC Villa thanks to Karim Ndugwa’s 90 minute winner. Nduggwa might soon become the master of scoring last minute goals as he did the same last week when he scored in his team’s 2-1 over Kira Young.
SC Villa have now moved to 5th position on 33 points.
