FSL: KCC FC games postponed, Soana and Bright stars renew rivalry

    Tuesday fixtures:

    Masaka vs Police

    Entebbe vs sc Villa

    Bright Stars vs Soana

    Vipers vs Simba

    URA vs SCVU

The reigning league champions KCCA FC will have to contend with a congested domestic fixture due to their participation in the CAF Champions league. The FUFA super League board has released communication indicating that KCCA’s two league games this week-against Express FC (Tuesday 25th Feb, 2014) and Simba (Friday 28th Feb, 2014). However the rest of the league progamme will remains unchanged.  KCCA FC are playing Nkana Red Devils of Zambia this weekend in the first leg of the first round CAF Champions League.

‘KCCA FC are involved in the CAF champions League and we felt it necessary to postpone their games to give them ample time to travel to Zambia’ said FSL Vice President Mujib Kasule.

The new dates for the postponed games will be communicated in future by the FSL board.

    URA, Vipers eye top position

In the last round of the FSL games on Friday, both Vipers and URA picked up contrasting results. URA defeated Entebbe 2-1 while Vipers lost by the same score line against BUL in JInja. However of both teams win today, they could find themselves joint top of the table dislodging Kiira Young who are not in action this afternoon.  URA play host to Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) in Lugazi  while Vipers have a home fixture against Simba who have drawn their opening two games of the second round.

    Bright Stars-Soana to clash

There is no love lost between the two teams. Their fierce rivalry stems from the 2012/2013 FUFA Big. It is one of the biggest games in Ugandan football right from lower division football. Incidentally the two games have played three games between them-one won by Soana (in the Big League) while the rest of the games have failed to produce goals.

Soana made history as they became the first team to beat Bright Stars FC at home in four and half years in a FUFA recognized football match.

The rankings on the table tell a different story as Bright stars who qualified to the FUFA super league and BIG league champions are languishing in 11th position while Soana are 5th on the table (30points) and could find themselves second at the end of the day if the teams above them fail to win.

  • FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda launched

    FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda launched

Uganda’s top flight sides plying their trade in the FUFA Super League (FSL) have been urged to put into use the newly introduced FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda (FCPA) for better results in the near future.  Twelve (12) out of sixteen (16)clubs featuring in the FSL attended the meeting which saw the FUFA president Engineer Moses Magogo interact with the secretaries and chairmen for the first time since being voted into the highest position in local football leadership in September last year. Masaka, KCC FC, Entebbe and Simba never attended the meeting in which a presentation was made for the clubs to guide them on how to improve from amateur level to professional status.

At the same meeting the clubs were reminded about their roles and rights as members of FUFA. They were also briefed on the current set up of continental football programme that CAF would like to align associations with the FIFA calendars.

“The Clubs are 16 out of the 31 Members that comprise and own FUFA. If you don’t defend against those who want to hijack the ownership of FUFA from the members, you will be fighting your own existence” said Magogo

Magogo informed the clubs that there are a number of various things being put together in terms of strategy to develop football. He told the clubs that they are the biggest contributors to the highest levels of football at senior level.

‘I appreciate and thank the clubs for keeping with FUFA during trying times even when there was a clear fact that there wasn’t money’ further said Magogo.

The FUFA president revealed to clubs that efforts are being made to secure sponsorships for the different products (packages) at the federation inclusive of the FSL

‘The calmer the football environment becomes the nearer we get to the potential sponsors’ added Magogo who was responding a series of questions from club officials regarding  sponsorship of football in the country.

Magogo who is a certified FIFA Football administration instructor took the club officials through the FCPA presentation which outlines how they can improve on their standards. It is based on items popularly known as ’11 key players’.

    These are:

    1-Goal keeper-Structures

    2-Right back-Finances

    3-Left back-Medical

    4-Center back-Facilities

    5-Libero-Stadium

    6-Central Midfield-Senior team

    7-Right Wing-Youth Set Up

    8-Central Midfield-Marketing

    9-Forward-Fans

    10-Forward-Communication

    11-Left Wing-Event Management

He asked the clubs to always organize such forums to discuss more issues about football development and those that affect them.

The FUFA Vice President Mujib Kasule welcomed the meeting saying that the officials have now gotten an idea of what is expected of them.

The FCPA will act as an eye opener as some clubs were not taking some of the points raised in the presentation seriously which later impact on the team’s performance’ said Kasule.

The FUFA Chief executive officer Edgar Watson also attended the meeting and informed clubs that in a week’s time they will be notified and asked to present their compliance reports.

Ugandan referees are set to benefit from the visit of two UK based officials Janie Frampton and David Frampton who are in the country to help the area of refereeing. Under their company- Sports Officials Consultancy David and Janie will meet the FUFA Match assessors numbering to 68, seniors referees and instructors.  The duo has already met with the FUFA president Engineer Moses Magogo and CEO Edgar Watson who welcomed the idea. The consultancy firm brings together sports officials for purposes of development and fair officiation in various sports disciplines. It is not restricted to football only. The country director (Uganda) of the Sports officials Consultancy Yusuf Awuye coordinated the visit of the two officials. Janie is a former FIFA referee while David is an FA Regional Referee coach.

Their visit also comes following the launch of the referees’ academy in Uganda at Kyambogo University, International University of East Africa and Victoria University.

‘We are targeting students between the ages of 6-14 so that we interest them into football and refereeing’ said Awuye who retired from refereeing in 2006 after 13 years of long service.

Awuye believes that involving young people will help to give them the chance to love refereeing.  It is a pilot project in Africa that was blessed by the Confederation of African football (CAF).

The FUFA CEO Edgar Watson was grateful to the duo for coming to Uganda and pass on necessary information to the referees.

‘This course will help many referees, assessors and instructors. It is important that they make use of the opportunity’ said Watson.

The FUFA President was happy to receive the officials. He said the visit has come at the right time when FUFA is working on the referees’ manual.

‘The visit has come at the right time. We want to improve our referees and train instructors in Uganda’ said Magogo shortly after discussing developmental issues with the duo.

The course is ongoing at FUFA house in Mengo and will continue tomorrow when the senior referees will be lectured as well.

    KCC FC vs CRO FC

    Time: 4.30pm

    League: FUFA Super League

    Venue: KCCA stadium, Lugogo

    Charges:

KCC Fc fans are likely to turn up in big numbers to cheer on their heroes who knocked out El Merreikh from the CAF Champions league when the FUFA Super League (FSL) action resumes today with only one game on card.

It was an electric atmosphere following the final whistle last Saturday at Mandela National stadium, Namboole when league champions KCC FC advanced to the next stage of the continental premier club championship. They had knocked out the Sudanese side 3-2 on aggregate.

The fans will be hoping for their players to pick up their first win of the second round of the FSL when they play their opener. On paper it looks an easy game but the bottom placed club has already shocked teams on their home grounds. CRO’s two wins this season in the league have come against Entebbe FC at Wankulukuku stadium and SC Villa at Nakivubo stadium.

So, will CRO bring down KCC FC this afternoon at Lugogo?

‘We are focused to win this game because we need the points. We don’t want to create any serious points’ gap between us and our title challengers’ said KCC FC coach George Nsimbe.

CRO have already held second placed Kiira Young to a goalless draw in their opening game of the second round.

They seem to be determined more than ever to remain in the top flight.

KCC Fc won 7-0 in the first round against CRO in a match that was played in Mbale.  The reigning champions are 5th on the table with 27 points and a win will take them to third, two points behind leaders Vipers (32 points).  CRO have managed two wins  and a draw amassing 7 points in 16 outings so far.
