Goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje delighted to win Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match after her heroic display helped the Warriors secure a 2-1 victory against rivals St Noa Girls Zana FC at Kawempe Muslim SS Ground on Sunday.

Jovia Nakagolo and Latifah Nakasi were on target for the Warriors while Giovana Sunday Aketowanga scored for the visitors.

The Warriors’ shot-stopper delivered a commanding performance between the posts, producing a series of crucial saves to deny St Noa and ensure Kawempe claimed maximum points.

After earning her starting spot this season, Namwanje is repaying her coaches’ trust with consistent and confident performances that have seen her improve in every match. She made several key interventions to stop efforts from St Noa’s attacking duo Dorcas Lwalisa and Patricia Nayiga.

Her calm decision-making helped her side remain organised under sustained pressure, especially in the final 20 minutes after Giovana Aketowanga had pulled one back for St Noa.

Speaking after the game, the young goalkeeper expressed her delight at winning her first individual accolade.

‘I am so happy to win my first Woman of the Match award. I feel grateful to my teammates and I am going to keep working hard to help my team keep clean sheets,’ said a smiling Namwanje.

The Warriors’ assistant coach Moses Nkata praised his goalkeeper’s effort and attitude, noting that she still has more potential to realise.

‘Saidat has really done her role well today. She has worked hard to get to this level and I believe she can perform even better. We believe in all our goalkeepers because they are all important and the best one always goes in goal,’ said Nkata.

This award caps a remarkable start to the campaign for the young goalkeeper who hopes to establish herself as one of the brightest goalkeeping prospects in the league.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC currently sit third on the table with seven points, level with Kampala Queens FC and She Corporate FC, although the latter two have a superior goal difference. Kawempe will travel to face Uganda Martyrs High School WFC on Sunday in Matchday Four action.

  • Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday 3 wrap-up

Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday 3 wrap-up

The weekend once again delivered thrilling action, plenty of goals and stunning moments that have shaken up the standings. Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, Kampala Queens FC and She Corporate FC secured crucial victories to level on seven points at the summit and assert early dominance. As early contenders, they are setting the pace but the chasing pack remains close, ensuring the battle for the top positions will be intense.

Here is a full round-up of the weekend’s action.

She Corporate FC summer recruits continue to shine

The Sharks secured a convincing 2-0 triumph over Asubo Ladies FC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, extending their perfect home record. Summer signing Rebecca Nakato’s thunderous strike and Cissy Nakate’s clinical finish off Sandra Kisakye’s set-up in the second half sealed the win. The home side had threatened relentlessly from the start but Olga’s goalkeeping expertise kept the scoreline respectable.

The current form of the Sharks, with seven points out of a possible nine, is a remarkable turnaround, especially given their struggles since winning the league in 2022. The summer recruitment drive of five experienced new faces and head coach Inanahazwe Balyse seems to be paying off early dividends. She Corporate FC are already showing promising signs of meaning business this season.

Sharks midfielder Akandinda Gillian earned her successive Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award.

Kampala Queens FC glide on as Kamiyati Naigaga shines again

The Queens’ dominance over Rines SS WFC continued with a convincing 5-2 win at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. The Queens put up a commanding performance that saw them dictate proceedings from start to finish. In-form winger Kamiyati Naigaga and Zaitun Namaganda stole the show with clinical braces, while Catherine Nagadya added the icing on the cake. Eva Naggayi and Patricia Nakato netted consolation goals for the hosts.

The result signals the Queens’ early dominance but the scoreline raises concerns about their leaky defence, having conceded in all three games. Winger Kamiyati Naigaga’s impressive form continued as she now leads the league’s scoring chart with four goals in three matches. Her clinical finishing and overall impact make her a key player for the Queens’ title aspirations. She was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match, her second of the season.

    Kawempe make bold statement

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against rivals St Noa Girls-Zana FC at Kawempe Muslim SS Ground. The Warriors asserted their dominance from the outset, reaping rewards when Jovia Nakagolo struck her first goal of the season at the half-hour mark. Summer signing Latifah Nakasi doubled the lead after the break, scoring in successive games to prove her worth at the Valley. Though Giovanna Sunday Aketowanga pulled one back for the visitors, goalkeeper Saida Namwanje’s string of spectacular saves ensured the Warriors’ 2-1 victory, earning her the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award.

The spirit and determination of the Warriors send an early statement that they are serious title contenders. It seems they have addressed their goalkeeping concerns, making them a formidable force this season. For debutants St Noa, despite the loss, they will build on the positives and look forward to bouncing back in their next games.

Amus College WFC register first win of the season

Amus College WFC finally broke through with their first win, breathing a sigh of relief after two opening draws. They asserted their dominance with a convincing 3-1 victory over She Maroons FC at the Amus College Stadium. Youngster Esther Namataka was unstoppable, scoring a brace inside ten minutes and Ruth Nyakato adding another before the half-hour mark, putting the hosts in complete control. Lillian Nabuuso scored her second goal of the season for the Jailers but ultimately it proved to be a consolation.

The result boosts Amus College WFC’s points tally to five, and considering it is only their second season in the league, it is a promising start for Frank Anyau’s side. For She Maroons FC, their defensive vulnerability was exposed, and coach Maxwell will surely use the result as a learning opportunity to tighten up ahead of the next matches.

Esther Namataka was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match.

Resty Kobusobozi’s stoppage-time strike denies Uganda Martyrs first win of the season

Last season’s top scorer Resty Kobusobozi delivered a dramatic twist, scoring in added time to deny Uganda Martyrs High School WFC their maiden win, instead securing a two-all draw for Lady Doves FC at the Katusabe Ground, Masindi. Angel Kigongo Auki’s early second-half strike gave the visitors the lead, but Lady Doves fought back through Everline Kwereho’s equaliser. Judith Nakirijja’s goal seemed to seal the win for the away side but Kobusobozi’s stoppage-time strike said otherwise.

With both teams still searching for their maiden win, the result leaves Lady Doves and Uganda Martyrs with two points each from three matches. The stalemate further raises defensive concerns for the Believers, having conceded five goals in the last two games. For Uganda Martyrs, the rebuilding continues after losing key players, including top striker Latifah Nakasi and goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu, last season.

Uganda Martyrs H/S WFC forward Brenda Munyana was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match.

    Makerere get off the mark

Namiiro Noeline’s 90th-minute strike proved decisive, handing Makerere University WFC their first win of the season in a narrow 1-0 victory over Olila High School WFC at the Makerere University Ground. The win injects much-needed morale ahead of their next matches, while Olila face a tough road, currently stuck in the relegation zone.

Halima Kampi earned the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award.

  • FUFA President Announces Suspension of 2025–2026 SUPL Format

FUFA President Announces Suspension of 2025–2026 SUPL Format

The FUFA President, Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, has announced the suspension of the new 2025–2026 Uganda Premier League (UPL) format following extensive consultations with clubs, league sponsors and the Uganda Premier League Board.

The decision was reached and later announced during a press conference held this afternoon, following a series of meetings at FUFA House in Mengo, including a session of the FUFA Executive Committee, which agreed to temporarily suspend Rules 14.4 to 14.12 of the FUFA Competition Rules 2025 for this season.

The FUFA Executive Committee has resolved that the 2025–2026 Uganda Premier League season will revert to a double round-robin format. The matches already played under the initial split league structure will be maintained as part of the revised schedule.

The FUFA President, flanked by his 2nd Vice President Dr. Azah Taibu, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, Executive Committee members Deo Mutabazi and Issa Magoola, Uganda Premier League Board Chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo, and Hajji Kawuulu Abdul Mwanje representing the clubs, explained that the suspension will allow all stakeholders more time to understand and appreciate the new league reforms introduced to improve pillar three – professionalisation of club football – as outlined in the FUFA Technical Master Plan launched in 2023.

‘At the start of the season, we held several consultative meetings with the clubs to explore ways of improving the league. One of our immediate objectives as FUFA is to strengthen competitions across the board, and this remains part of our broader vision to implement the Technical Master Plan.’

The FUFA President noted that the reforms were designed to increase competition, reduce the potential for match fixing, and create greater commercial value for the game.

However, he stated that the transition to the new format has presented challenges which require further sensitisation and alignment among all stakeholders.

‘Our expectation was that this would be an exciting new environment for everyone, especially as we build towards AFCON 2027,’ he added.

‘However, we have listened to the clubs, sponsors and fans, and decided to allow more time for explanation and preparation before full implementation.’

‘For this season, we shall play home and away fixtures, with all points accumulated across both rounds, similar to the previous campaign. By the end of this season, we expect to have had enough time to explain the objectives and benefits of the new format so that everyone moves in the same direction.’

He further revealed that FUFA will trial the proposed split league system in one of the lower division competitions, to evaluate its feasibility before any future adoption at the top level.

‘This position has been agreed upon by all clubs and endorsed by the FUFA Executive Committee. Our focus now is to sustain the energy around the league and push fans back to the stadiums because football is about the fans. We have listened to our clubs, sponsors and the public, and we are confident that together we shall achieve our goals.’

The FUFA President concluded by commending all stakeholders for their continued support and reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to improving football competitions at all levels.

  • Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday Three Preview, Teams Seek Early Dominance

Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday Three Preview, Teams Seek Early Dominance

The early weeks of the 2025/2026 season have already delivered fireworks with plenty of goals, turnarounds, and thrillers. As Matchday Three looms this weekend with six fixtures evenly distributed across Saturday and Sunday, early dominance is up for grabs. With five teams level on four points at the summit, this weekend will be crucial in separating the pack. All fixtures will kick off at 10:00 am.

Saturday’s action gets underway outside Kampala. She Corporate FC hosts Asubo Ladies FC in Njeru while She Maroons FC travels east to face Amus College WFC. In Masindi, Lady Doves FC welcomes Uganda Martyrs High School WFC.

She Corporate FC will be aiming to make it two wins from two home games when they host Asubo Ladies FC at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. After a goalless stalemate last weekend, the Sharks will need to overcome their creativity concerns to break down Asubo’s solid defence. The visitors will be cautious of She Corporate’s attacking duo Jesca Namanda and Sandra Kisakye, who were instrumental in their last home game. Their creativity could prove decisive in a match neither side can afford to drop points in if they want to stay among the front-runners.

At Amus College Stadium, after two consecutive draws, Amus College WFC will be keen to register their first win when they host She Maroons FC, who are also searching for a return to winning ways. The hosts boast a strong home record, and with key players like Edinah Nasipwondi leading the charge, confidence will be high. However, it will not be a straightforward contest as the Jailers are yet to concede this season and will rely on their pacey wingers Lillian Mutuuzo, Norah Alupo, and Lillian Kasuubo to cause problems. Their physical style could also be a challenge to contain, making this a tightly contested affair.

Elsewhere in Masindi, Lady Doves FC host Uganda Martyrs High School WFC at Katusabe Ground. The Believers will be desperate to collect maximum points as they aim to turn around their slow start to the campaign. Resty Kobusobozi, who opened her scoring account last weekend, will be pivotal for the home side. However, Lady Doves’ defensive lapses remain a concern, particularly against a clinical attacking side led by in-form striker Nusulah Nakintu. With both teams evenly matched, this encounter could swing either way.

Matchday Three will conclude on Sunday with three fixtures. Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC host St Noa Girls-Zana FC, Kampala Queens FC visit Rines SS WFC, while Makerere University WFC welcome Olila High School WFC.

At Kawempe Muslim SS Ground, a thrilling clash awaits as Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC and St Noa Girls-Zana FC renew their school rivalry. Both sides have made strong starts to the season and will be eager to assert their dominance. The Warriors’ attack has been impressively diverse, with four different scorers contributing to their four goals so far. Captain Agnes Nabukenya, Latifah Nakasi, and Asia Nakibuuka will be central to Kawempe’s pursuit of victory. For debutants St Noa, this fixture will serve as a reality check to determine whether their bright start signals genuine contention or early-season fortune. With talented players such as Docas Lwalisa, Patricia Nayiga, and Esther Babirye, they have the tools to make an impact. This clash could be decided by which coach makes the better tactical calls during the game.

Defending champions Kampala Queens FC will look to maintain their perfect start when they visit Rines SS WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. The Queens hold a commanding head-to-head record with seven wins and one draw from their last eight meetings. Winger Kamiyati Naigaga, with two goals already this season, remains the key player for the visitors. Kampala Queens will also look to boost their goal difference in this fixture. Rines SS WFC, however, will be hoping to exploit any defensive lapses to cause an upset.

The final fixture sees Makerere University WFC host Olila High School WFC at Makerere University Ground. Both teams are coming off defeats and will be eager to bounce back. With both sides evenly matched, the home advantage could tip the balance in favour of Makerere University, though a closely fought contest is expected.

We are aware of the challenges ahead, but our target is to top the group in our debut season and earn promotion to the top tier. We shall take each game as a final, and I hope the players replicate the performances displayed in the practice matches,’ said Head Coach James Magala.

Uganda Fall to Algeria in Final 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier, Finish Second in Group G

Uganda ended their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification campaign with a 2–1 defeat to Algeria in on Tuesday night. The result saw Uganda finish second in Group G with 18 points, level with Mozambique but ahead on goal difference, while Algeria topped the group with 25 points to qualify for the next round.

Steven Mukwala put the team ahead in the 6th minute, and the Cranes held strong until the halftime mark.

Two second-half penalties shifted the advantage to the home side, leading to the final score.

Head coach Paul Put praised his players for their effort and expressed pride in their campaign despite the loss.

‘It was a very tough game. We played against a very good team. But it is hard to lose like this with two penalties because it was the pressure of the public that influenced the referee. Certainly the second one, I think the law says to protect the goalkeeper. But it was a difficult game, we were all surprised.’

‘For the first one, I cannot judge, I have to see the images. It has been a long trip for us, and the boys did everything. They fought and gave their best. We had the best opportunity to score the second goal, but unfortunately we did not. If we had scored, the game would have been finished. But I am proud of the boys.’

‘We finished second with 18 points, which is very good. Now we have to prepare for AFCON. First, we shall play two friendly matches in November to follow up on the players before starting preparations at the beginning of December. There is not much time left. Unfortunately, we could not reach the playoffs, but we shall focus on the upcoming international games.’

2026 FWCQ: Uganda Complete Final Preparations Ahead of Algeria Showdown

The Uganda Cranes held their final training session this evening ahead of the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Algeria, scheduled for Tuesday 14th October 2025 at 7 p.m. East African Time.

The session was attended by the Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel, and the Ambassador of Uganda to Algeria and the Maghreb Region Hon. Alintuma Nsambu, who all showed their support to the team.

    Current standing

    Understanding the Second-Placed Teams Path

According to CAF’s qualification format, the nine group winners will qualify directly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The nine second-placed teams will then be compared to determine which among them will advance to the next stage of qualification.

For this comparison, results against the bottom-placed team in each group are not counted. Only matches played against the top five teams in the group are considered. After this adjustment, the best-ranked second-placed teams are determined using standard FIFA tie-breaking criteria such as points, goal difference, and goals scored.

Uganda currently sit second in Group G with eighteen points, four behind Algeria who lead with twenty-two points. A positive result in Algiers would strengthen Uganda’s chances of finishing as one of the best second-placed teams and potentially advancing to the next qualification stage.

This season is already shaping up to be an exciting one. After just two matchdays, 32 goals have been scored, 12 more than last season’s tally at the same stage.

Teams are already eyeing the top spot and players are shining bright as they chase both individual and team glory. Defending champions Kampala Queens FC and Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC picked up their first wins of the campaign after thrilling comebacks, while debutants St Noa Girls-Zana FC celebrated their first home victory in style.

Here is a full round-up of Matchday Two action.

St Noa Girls-Zana FC record first ever win in the league

Debutants St Noa Girls-Zana FC celebrated their first-ever league win with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Lady Doves FC at Wankulukuku Stadium. The match had plenty of action as the hosts took the lead through new signing Dorcus Lwalisa, but the visitors responded quickly to gain a half-time advantage courtesy of goals from Irene Nantege and Resty Kobusobozi.

Upon restart, the home side staged a stunning comeback, scoring two unanswered goals from Nayiga Patricia and Babirye Esther Nabuuso to seal a 3-2 win. The Zana-based team has started the season strongly with four points and four goals from two games.

This impressive start comes days after the appointment of former Uganda Cranes player Vincent Kayizzi as deputy coach to Tonny Mawejje, also a former Uganda Cranes midfielder. St Noa Girls-Zana FC are already making a statement in the league. They are not just participants but genuine contenders for the top positions.

For Lady Doves FC, it has been a difficult start with just one point from two games, and they will be eager to find their winning form on Matchday Three. St Noa Girls-Zana FC goalkeeper Nakirya Lillian was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match.

She Maroons FC and She Corporate FC share the spoils

After impressive wins in their opening fixtures, the Jailers and the Sharks played out a goalless draw at the Prison Grounds in Luzira on Sunday, contrary to the high-scoring encounters seen on the opening weekend.

It was a closely contested affair with limited chances. Jesca Namanda’s effort towards the end of the first half was the highlight, but goalkeeper Proscovia Adongo made a crucial save before Rebbeca Nakato missed the rebound to the disappointment of the travelling fans.

The result leaves both teams on four points, with She Maroons FC maintaining top spot on goal difference. She Corporate FC’s midfielder Akandinda Gillian was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match.

Uganda Martyrs High School WFC avoid consecutive loss as Nusulah Nakintu scores again

Uganda Martyrs High School WFC and Amus College WFC played out an intense 2-2 draw at St Gerald’s Ground, Lubaga, on Sunday. The hosts, who had suffered a 4-1 loss in their opening game, managed to hold on for a point against an Amus College WFC side that had started the campaign steadily with a 1-1 draw.

Nusulah Nakintu broke the deadlock for the home team, scoring her second goal of the campaign. Edinah Nasipwondi then struck twice to put the visitors ahead, but their lead was short-lived as winger Brenda Munyana levelled the contest with a powerful effort.

The result will serve as a morale boost for Uganda Martyrs H/S WFC, though conceding six goals in two games highlights the need for greater defensive organisation ahead of Matchday Three. For Amus College WFC, the draw adds to their early-season momentum, especially given the absence of key player Opisa Shayline.

Ikalakala Shayline of Amus College WFC was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match.

Kamiyati Naigaga stars for Kampala Queens FC

Winger Kamiyati Naigaga continues to prove her worth for Kampala Queens FC since joining from Asubo Ladies FC in September last year. The youngster was once again the heroine for the Queens, scoring a decisive stoppage-time goal to secure a 2-1 win over Makerere University WFC at MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Josephine Ndagire had given the visitors an early lead, but Joanita Ainembabazi’s first goal for the Queens levelled the contest before Naigaga struck gold, netting her second goal in as many games to take the Queens to four points from two fixtures.

All of Kampala Queens’ points this season have come through Naigaga’s brilliance. Her outstanding performances have been pivotal, and she deservedly earned the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match award.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC end away winless run against Olila High School WFC

At Olila Grounds in Soroti, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC finally broke their jinx, triumphing 3-1 at a venue where they had failed to win in their previous three visits.

Esther opened the scoring for the hosts shortly after the break, but the Warriors responded ruthlessly, scoring three times in a 10-minute spell to register their first win of the season. The goals came from Nabirye Shadia, captain Agnes Nabukenya and new signing Latifa Nakasi, who opened her account for the campaign.

The result sees Kawempe move to four points, drawing level with rivals Kampala Queens FC, She Maroons FC, She Corporate FC and St Noa Girls-Zana FC. They now join the early-season title race in what promises to be a closely fought campaign.

Asubo Ladies FC show resilience after opening rout

Asubo Ladies FC displayed remarkable resilience to bounce back from their 5-0 opening-day defeat, earning a hard-fought goalless draw against Rines SS WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

Goalkeeper Olga Lukia Budiru was the standout performer, pulling off several crucial saves to deny the hosts. Her solid display will give the team renewed confidence, and they can now use the point as a foundation to build towards their targets in the coming fixtures.

  • Kamiyat’s Late Strike Earns Kampala Queens First Win of the Season, Kawempe Wins on the Road

Kamiyat’s Late Strike Earns Kampala Queens First Win of the Season, Kawempe Wins on the Road

Kampala Queens FC staged an impressive comeback to register their first win of the season, defeating Makerere University WFC 2–1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Josephine Ndagire gave the visitors an early lead inside three minutes, but Joanita Ainembabazi’s second-half equaliser and Kamiyat Naigaga’s stoppage-time winner completed the turnaround for the defending champions.

Makerere University WFC started brightly and got their reward when Josephine Ndagire rose highest to head home from Hasifa Nambozo’s well-delivered free kick, beating goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu. The goal mirrored Asia Nakibuuka’s effort against Kampala Queens last week.

The hosts responded strongly, creating several chances but failing to capitalise. Forwards Shamusa Najjuma and debutant Square Maiwase both missed clear opportunities before the half-hour mark. Head Coach Firew Asefa introduced Joanita Ainembabazi for Maiwase in the 35th minute, a tactical switch that gave Kampala Queens greater attacking impetus, though the visitors held firm to lead at the break.

The Queens restarted with intent, and four minutes into the second half, Ainembabazi justified her introduction with a well-timed header to level the game. Catherine Nagadya, deployed in midfield, combined effectively with Ainembabazi as the home side continued to press relentlessly.

Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when winger Kamiyat Naigaga used her pace and strength to beat defender Winnie Nakanwagi before unleashing a powerful strike past goalkeeper Grace Nassande. The late goal not only sealed the win but also earned Naigaga the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match accolade.

The victory takes Kampala Queens to four points from two matches, while Makerere University remain on one.

Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim Ladies came from behind to defeat Olila High School FC 3–1 at Olila Grounds in Soroti. Brenda Atwani had put the hosts ahead early in the second half, but the Warriors responded through Shadia Nabirye, captain Agnes Nabukenya, and striker Latifa Nakasi, who scored her first goal for the club. This marks Kawempe’s first away victory over Olila in the last three seasons, sending a strong message of intent for the campaign.

At Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, Rines SS WFC were held to a goalless draw by Asubo Gafford Ladies FC. Nakato Nakyanzi missed a late penalty that could have handed the hosts all three points. The result was, however, a positive response for Asubo following their 5–0 defeat in the opening fixture. Rines SS youngster Dorcus Edith Nantaba, recently promoted from the feeder school team, was named Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match for her outstanding display.

Matchday Two continues tomorrow with three fixtures. She Maroons FC will host She Corporate FC at Luzira Prison Grounds, Uganda Martyrs High School WFC welcome Amus College WFC at St Gerald’s Ground, Lubaga, while St Noa Girls Zana FC entertain Lady Doves FC at Wankulukuku Stadium.

  • Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday Two Preview

Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League 2025/2026: Matchday Two Preview

After an opening weekend full of goals, another round of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League action is upon us, with six fixtures evenly spread across Saturday and Sunday. This weekend promises an intriguing mix of early statement matches and testing away trips that are likely to deliver even more excitement than Matchday One.

On Saturday, defending champions Kampala Queens FC host Makerere University WFC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, while Kawempe Muslim Ladies travel east to face Olila High School WFC. The third fixture will see Rines SS WFC welcome Asubo Ladies FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. All matches kick off at 10:00 am.

Kampala Queens FC and Makerere University WFC both come into this fixture eager to secure their first victory of the season, having drawn against Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Rines SS WFC respectively. Kampala Queens will look to capitalise on their home advantage, relying on midfielders Zaitun Namaganda and Kamiyat Naigaga to dictate play and create opportunities for forwards Shamusa Najjuma and Catherine Nagadya. However, they could be without winger Peace Muduwa, who is preparing for her national examinations on Monday.

Makerere University will aim to remain compact and organised while exploiting transitions and set pieces. Skipper Josephine Ndagire and Halima Kampi will be key in ensuring discipline and structure, while the team’s collective defensive approach could make them difficult to break down. Their threat from dead-ball situations will be a major asset as they attempt to frustrate the hosts.

Rines SS WFC will look to build on the point they picked up away to Makerere University last weekend, while Asubo Ladies FC seek to recover from a heavy 5–0 defeat to She Maroons FC. Matches between mid-table sides this early in the season are often open contests, but Asubo will need to tighten their defence after a poor start. The hosts will depend on the creativity of Phiona Arach, who remains a constant threat in the final third, while the visitors will likely depend on long balls and counterattacks to gain an advantage.

Olila High School WFC will host Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC at Olila Ground. The hosts earned a valuable point away to Lady Doves FC, while the Warriors were held to a 1–1 draw by Kampala Queens FC. Kawempe are favourites, with midfielders Agnes Nabukenya and Krusum Namutebi expected to create scoring chances for Latifa Nakasi. However, they will face a disciplined Olila defence led by the centre-back pairing of Lonah Alupo and Harriet Adubango. The hosts are known to be resilient at home and could cause problems for any opponent on their day.

Matchday Two will conclude on Sunday with three fixtures. Early table leaders She Maroons FC and She Corporate FC will face off in Luzira, while St Noa Girls Zana FC and Uganda Martyrs High School WFC play their first home league games against Lady Doves FC and Amus College WFC respectively.

The encounter between She Maroons FC and She Corporate FC at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira is arguably the highlight of the weekend. Both teams began the season impressively, with She Maroons winning 5–0 away to Asubo Ladies FC and She Corporate defeating Uganda Martyrs 4–1. The Jailers will depend on their attacking trio of Captain Norah Alupo, Lillian Kasuubo and Lillian Mutuuzo, whose rotations and understanding could test the visitors’ defence. The Sharks, on the other hand, will rely on the firepower of Sandra Kisakye, star striker Jesca Namanda and Babra Adweru, supported by Rebecca Nakato and Leticia Nakyeyune. With both sides boasting strong attacking options, defensive organisation will be crucial, and tacticians Maxwell Okello and Inanahazwe Balyse will need to make key decisions on team shape, marking and pressing.

At Wankulukuku Stadium, St Noa Girls Zana FC will host Lady Doves FC. Both teams seek their first win of the season after sharing points in their opening fixtures. St Noa drew 1–1 with Amus College WFC, while Lady Doves were held to a goalless draw by Olila High School WFC. This encounter promises to be competitive, with individual brilliance on both sides. Dorcus Lwalisa will be pivotal for the hosts, while the Believers will look to Resty Kobusoboozi for inspiration in attack. Playing their first-ever home league match, St Noa will be motivated to register a historic victory.

At St Gerald’s Ground in Lubaga, Uganda Martyrs High School WFC will host Amus College WFC. The hosts aim to recover from a 4–1 defeat to She Corporate FC, while the visitors will build on a 1–1 draw against St Noa Girls. Amus College possess strong attacking options in Shayline Opisa and Namataka Esther, who will lead their pursuit of an away victory. For Uganda Martyrs, the key will be to close spaces between the lines and take chances when they come. Players such as Brenda Munyana and Nusulah Nakintu will be vital if the hosts are to secure a positive result at home.

  • 2026 FWCQ: Uganda Edge Botswana 1-0 to Keep World Cup Dream Alive

2026 FWCQ: Uganda Edge Botswana 1-0 to Keep World Cup Dream Alive

Uganda Cranes secured a vital one-nil victory over Botswana in Francistown to keep their hopes alive in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Forward Jude Ssemugabi scored the only goal of the match in the fifty-fourth minute, heading home unmarked from a well-delivered corner kick to give Uganda a deserved lead.

The Cranes displayed composure and tactical discipline throughout the encounter, managing Botswana’s aerial threat and long balls effectively. Despite late pressure from the hosts, Uganda held firm to claim all three points, moving to eighteen points with one match remaining.

Returning goalkeeper Denis Onyango expressed gratitude and optimism after the final whistle.
‘First of all, I have to thank the team for allowing me back, because after four years of retirement, I was allowed to come back and help where I can,’ said Onyango. ‘Regardless of whether I play or not, I remain a key member of the team. The coaches have shown trust in me, and I am happy to still play active football with Sundowns.

In football, anything can happen. We do not know what the results in Algeria will be, but we have given ourselves a chance. We now have eighteen points with one game to go, and if we can make the playoffs, it will be great for the team and the country. It is important that we keep winning and stay positive going into the Africa Cup of Nations in two months.’

Head Coach Paul Put praised his players’ discipline and effort despite challenging travel conditions and limited preparation time.
‘We knew it would be a tough game,’ said Put. ‘Botswana were dangerous with long balls, so we had to stay organised. We had chances to score earlier, and I think the victory was deserved. Botswana gave one hundred percent and were very aggressive, but I am proud of how my players fought.’

He added, ‘After a long journey and little time to train together, the players showed great character. Denis Onyango’s experience was key; he brings calmness and leadership on and off the pitch. It is not easy to travel across Africa and perform at this level, but we are happy with the result. Now, we prepare for Algeria. It will be a long journey and a difficult game, but in football, you never know.’

Uganda plays Algeria next on Tuesday 14th October 2025 in Algeria.

  • 2026 FWCQ: Coach Put, Captain Aucho express readiness ahead of Botswana game

2026 FWCQ: Coach Put, Captain Aucho express readiness ahead of Botswana game

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put and Captain Khalid Aucho have expressed the team’s readiness ahead of Thursday’s FIFA World Cup Qualifier game against Botswana.

The Cranes will face the Zebras at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in the penultimate round of the qualifiers, carrying hope of making it to the coveted global showpiece.

Uganda currently sits second in Group G with 15 points, four behind leaders Algeria, and the coach is optimistic his troops are capable of earning wins on the road.

‘The players are in good shape and everyone is ready for tomorrow’s game against Botswana. We have no excuses, and the players are aware of the task ahead, so we hope that our supporters, wherever they are, rally behind us and hopefully we make them happy,’ he said.

The captain also shared similar sentiments and believes the team is capable of winning away against Botswana like they did back in 2016.

‘The players are ready and we go into the game carrying confidence in ourselves, believing we can secure maximum points here. We have ever done it, so I trust the team to make it here.’ Aucho indicated.

In 2016, Uganda won 2-1 against the Zebras with Aucho and William Kizito Luwagga scoring the goals for the Cranes.
