FUFA Set for 101st Ordinary General Assembly in Hoima

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will convene its 101st Ordinary General Assembly in Hoima, Kitara Region, from Friday 4th to Saturday 5th July 2025. The gathering brings together the football fraternity from across the country to evaluate FUFA’s progress, make key governance decisions and align on strategic priorities for the future of the game.

The General Assembly remains FUFA’s supreme decision-making body, composed of 88 voting delegates who represent a cross-section of football stakeholders. These include 16 delegates from 1st Division League clubs, 5 from the 2nd Division League, 2 from the National Women Football Leagues, 48 from the FUFA Regional Football Associations and 17 from FUFA Special Interest Groups. This structure guarantees inclusive representation and ensures that voices from all sectors of the game are heard.

Delegates and Executive Committee members will begin arriving in Hoima on Friday morning and check in at Hoima Resort Hotel. The opening day will involve registration, scheduled meetings and a guided tour of Hoima Stadium. The inaugural FUFA Stakeholders’ Cup will take place in the afternoon, followed by scheduled media engagements and a dinner party.

Saturday will begin with the registration of delegates at 7:00 AM, followed by breakfast, group photo sessions by regions, SIGs and clubs and the distribution of delegate packs. Delegates will also submit the required documents to FUFA Secretariat staff and take part in flash interviews coordinated by the FUFA Communications Department and FUFA Tv. Invited guests are expected to arrive at 8:45 AM, ahead of the official commencement of the General Assembly at 9:30 AM. Lunch is scheduled for 2:30 PM, with a media session involving interviews and photography set for 4:00 PM before the formal departure of delegates and guests.

The General Assembly holds significant authority within FUFA’s governance framework. Its powers include amending the statutes and associated regulations, approving the budget, financial statements and activity report, electing or dismissing members of the Executive Committee, judicial bodies, Electoral Committee and Audit and Compliance Committee, and appointing independent auditors. It also has the mandate to admit, suspend, or expel members, fix membership subscriptions, establish commercial legal entities under FUFA, and decide on honorary titles. Decisions passed by the General Assembly are only valid if a majority—more than 50%—of voting delegates are present.

In accordance with FUFA statutes, the election of the FUFA President and Executive Committee is conducted by list. The list which garners the most votes is deemed elected. However, where there is only one candidature list, the election shall be conducted by acclamation of the General Assembly. This year, with only one candidate vying for the office of FUFA President, the leadership is expected to be confirmed by acclamation.

FUFA Stakeholders Cup to be held at Royal Park Butema

The inaugural FUFA Stakeholders Cup is set to take place on Friday, 4th July 2025, at Royal Park Butema, with action kicking off at 2:00 PM. This brand-new initiative, approved by the FUFA Executive Committee (Excom), is a brainchild of the Federation’s President aimed at promoting unity and teamwork within Uganda’s football ecosystem.

Originally designed for six teams, the tournament will also feature two additional teams — the FUFA President’s XI and the Host Community Legends — who will not take part in the main competition but will instead play a special exhibition match. This final fixture of the day will be played on an open field in an 11-a-side format, adding a ceremonial close to the day’s activities.

The core tournament comprises six teams, including a combined Buganda & Kampala side, a combined Northern & West Nile team, a joint Western & Kitara side, a combined Eastern & North East team, and separate teams representing the FUFA Secretariat and FUFA Media.

All matches in the main competition will be played in a 7-a-side format. Each team is required to register a total of 12 players, including at least two females. During every match, one of the seven players on the field must be female. Should a team fail to meet this requirement at any point during the match, they will be required to play one player short.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Rogers Mulindwa, Chairman of the Organising Committee, stated that the FUFA Stakeholders Cup is a new initiative by the FA President and was approved by the Excom. He added that he was mandated to organise the event and, being the first edition, they have so far registered huge milestones. He further noted that the tournament targets to foster unity and teamwork among the football family through competitive participation on the pitch.

To recognise and reward excellence on and off the pitch, FUFA has set aside prize money for both team and individual achievements. The winning team will receive UGX 2,000,000, the second-placed team will walk away with UGX 1,000,000, while the third-placed team will earn UGX 750,000. Additionally, there will be individual awards of UGX 200,000 each for the Fair Play award, the Most Valuable Player (MVP), the Top Scorer, and the Best Goalkeeper.

WRFA holds successful 10th Annual General Assembly

The FUFA Western Region Football Association (WRFA) on Saturday 16th September 2023 held a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) where important resolutions were made for the progress of football in the region.

The 10th AGM was graced by FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye who represented the FUFA president Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim. Also in attendance was FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edgar Watson and FUFA Excom members Chris Kalibala and Frank Ankunzire.

During the meeting, members took time to take the advantage of the FUFA president’s presence to raise suggestions that would help develop the sport in the region, which were welcomed and advised on accordingly. The suggestions included having part of the cerebrations to mark FUFA’s 100 years of existence staged in Mbarara, extend the FUFA TV Schools football to the western region schools, ask government to establish regional stadia, among others.

FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye assured the delegates of a continued FUFA/government engagement to bring into place playable grounds in all regions and also a changed format of the second edition of the FUFA TV schools cup.

“I assure you that next season we shall have competition at regional level ie western Uganda chapter, central Uganda chapter, eastern Uganda chapter and others and the winners in each region meet in grand national finale to determine the national champions,” Darius Mugoye, FUFA 2nd Vice President

    On infrastructure, he said

“One of the reasons as to why the president (Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim) took up to contest a political seat, was to get closer to government so he lobbies for football, football infrastructure inclusive and I can assure you he close to government even when I don’t give details, and has already started the lobbying journey.”

Mugoye also consented that there is a cordial relationship between Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) and FUFA as schools are the base of football talent identification and development.

He advised the stake holders to do all it takes to avoid manipulation of football results in relation to match fixing and betting as the new sports law has come hard on the culprits.

The FUFA CEO Edgar Watson was happy to find a vibrant RFA seating and advised the FUFA delegates from the region to diligently serve their areas.

Excom member Chris Kalibala made a loud call to the stakeholders in the region to ignite an extra effort into women football development, as the sport in this category has declined in the region.

There was a round of applause when an increased 50m from 25m RFA support from FUFA, was announced, bringing the passed WRFA budget to UGX 57 million this season 2023/2024.
