    Mbarara City joins Masavu, Maroons to the Azam Uganda Premier League

    2016/17 FUFA Big league:

    Promotional final: Mbarara City 2-1 Synergy

    Main final: Masavu 1-2 Maroons

    Western Region’s Mbarara City Football Club completed the list of clubs that have been promoted sportingly to the Azam Uganda Premier League for the season 2017/18.

    Mbarara City overcame Masaka side Synergy 2-1 in the promotional final played on Sunday at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

    Towering striker Wol Makweth scored both Mbarara City’s goals as Solomon Okwalinga got the consolation for Synergy.

    Mbarara City joined Masavu (Rwenzori group winners) and Maroons (Elgon winners) as the other successful clubs to the top tier league for the season 2017/18.

    Maroons overcame Masavu 2-1 to be declared the 2016/17 FUFA Big league overall winner.

    Masavu took the lead through Joseph Nkabirwa in the 19th minute. Maroons made amends when regular season top scorer Patrick Kaddu headed home the equalizer in the 42nd minute.

    Solomon Walusimbi then volleyed home the winner three minutes later.

    FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye was chief guest during the Big league climax. He presided over the official prize giving ceremony accompanied by FUFA Technical committee member Hamid Juma and Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredejovic.

    Masavu players and team officials took home silver medals as Maroons got gold on top of a giant glittering trophy.

    Now Maroons, Masavu and Mbarara City will play in the 2017/18 Azam Uganda Premier League.

    Action between SSL Logistics (Red) and CAA in the finals at KISU, Bukoto

    SSL Logistics won the third edition of the FUFA Corporate tournament on Saturday held at the Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) in Bukoto.

    The heroes, also last year’s losing finalists to National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) this time round overcame Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) 1-0 in a closely contested final.

    Felix Muhamuza scored the lone goal in the final to hand his side their maiden title.

    CAA’s Ivan Sserubiri was awarded the Most Valuable player of the tournament award as Red Pepper’s Dorothy Nalukwago took the best female player’s gong.

    FUFA deputy CEO, Humprehey Mandu was the chief guest at the event.

    Flanked by Isaac Ssekaasi, brand manager of Nile Special, Mandu gave out the certificates of participation, medals, plaques to outstanding teams and individuals.

    A total of twenty corporate companies took part in the day long tournament whose main aim among others is to provide a plat form for the respective corporates to socialize by through networking, and provision of room to exercise the body.

    The tournament has been now held for the past three years with the previous editions organized at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

    FUFA Polls 2017: Regional exercise underway, as Hoima and Nebbi vote District Delegates

    The exercise for the ongoing FUFA elections continued this week with delegates voted into office to represent their respective Districts.

    The FUFA Electoral Committee finalized the exercise in Hoima and Nebbi Districts

    Here are the delegates and chairmen voted this week;

    Nebbi: Onwang Andrew, Munguriek Fredrick (DFA Delegates), Ogen Gerald (Chairman)

    Hoima: Agaba Edgar, Ayebale James (DFA Delegates), Dema Gabriel (Chairman)

     

    Polling exercise at the FUFA Regional Football Associations (RFAs) underway

    All the FUFA 8 RFAs will take part in 4 sets of elections that started on 3rd May and will end on 20th May, 2017. The exercise started with the display of registers, nominations followed by declaration of the candidates to vie for the slots to the FUFA Assembly that votes the FUFA Executive.

    FUFA Big League play offs: Mbarara City, Synergy progress for promotional final

    FUFA Big League 2016/17:

    • 1st Play off match: Mbarara City 1 (5) – 1 (3) Ndejje University
    • 2nd Play off match: Synergy 3-1 Kira United

    Mbarara City will play Synergy in the promotional final of the 2016/17 FUFA Big League.

    Richard Makumbi’s Mbarara City recovered from a goal down to beat Ndejje University 5-3 on post match penalties.

    Normal time of the game had ended one goal apiece at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Thursday.

    Bernard Katetemera gave Ndejje University the lead before Brian Aheebwa got the equalizer to push the match into penalties.

    In the second play off game, Synergy overcame Kira United 3-1.

    Solomon Okwalinga got a brace in the match as Nicholas Kasozi scored the other.

    With twenty minutes left on the clock, Isaac Senoga was sent off for unsporting play to grant numerical advantage to Synergy.

    Emmanuel Obitre was on target for Kira United.

    Now, Mbarara City will take on Synergy in the promotional final on Sunday.

    On the same day, Maroons will take on Masavu in the final game of the 2016/17 FUFA Big League to determine the champion.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic was among the hundreds of spectators who graced the two matches.

    Last season, Kirinya-Jinja S.S overcame Onduparaka 2-0 to win the trophy and gold medals.

    This year’s final will be played at the Phillip Omondi stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.

    The 2017 FUFA Corporate Tournament draws were held on Wednesday at the home of football in Uganda, Mengo – Kampala.

    FUFA Competititions director, Ali Mwebe conducted the well attended draws also attended by the representatives of 20 companies that have duly confirmed to take part as witnessed by the media.

    Mwebe who was flanked by the FUFA Marketing Director, Esther Musoke and the communications director Ahmed Hussein clarified on the formart of play and the tournament rules.

    Each team will play 4 matches as per the four groups set.

    That means, we shall have a total of 40 group stage matches.

    The top two teams per group will qualify to the quarter-finals followed by the semi-finals and finals.

    From the group stages to the semi-finals, it will be based on 7 a side format with the finals 11 aside.

    Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) play ground will host the day long tournament.

    FUFA Marketing Director Esther Musoke believes the tournament has continued to grow through leaps and bounds with the key objectives being attained.

    FUFA started this tournament to further create a plat form of reaching out to the partners and key stake holders in a way of socializing and networking. Also, the corporate tournament is another way of keeping fit for better health living.

    The day’s theme is ‘Football For Health’.

    Uganda Football Players’ Association extends helping hand to Ex-International Mathew Lucha

    The Uganda Football Players’ Association (UFPA) paid a courtesy visit to former Uganda Cranes player Mathew Lukya in Jinja on Tuesday.

    Lucha who is down with illness was found at Kakindu stadium getting to catch up with the JMC Hippos vs KCCA FC Azam Uganda Premier League match.

    FUFA extended financial help of 2,800,000/- (Two Millions Eight Hundred Thousand Shillings only) for treatment.

    The UFPA led by their Chairman Patrick Ntege, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Mukatabala, Lawrence Kizito and Delegate to the FUFA Assembly Edward Kalungi handed over the financial package.

    ‘I extend my sincere thanks to FUFA for the initiative. I am really delighted. No words or actions can express my joy at heart. Thank you FUFA, the players and whoever made this a success, May God bless you and your families’ said Lucha.

    ‘Football is a sport where we are opponents on the pitch and torrid friends off it. This is part of FUFA’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity aimed at extending a helping hand to communities through its Member Associations’ said Ntege.

    ‘I also take the opportunity to call upon all corporate companies and individuals who would wish to help out Lukya to join the cause. Get well soon Lukya’ added Ntege.

    The player’s association had recently helped another former player, Ali Ssekawata with a Ug.shs 5M offer towards the medical bill of his injured leg.

    The FUFA Electoral Committee Chairman Sam Bakiika on Friday morning declared candidates who have sailed through unopposed for various positions at the District Football Associations (DFAs) in the ongoing FUFA Polls 2017.

    Bakiika released the list of unopposed candidates during the press conference organised by his Committee. He was flanked by his Vice Chairman/FEC Spokesperson Yusuf Awuye and Committee member Julius Ssemanda.

    To All Stakeholders,

    At the closure of Nominations for the District Football Association Executive, Delegates and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to the Regional Football Associations in accordance with the FUFA Electoral Code and Guidelines, in the following districts;

    • Only two candidates picked and returned Nomination Forms for the positions of DFA Delegates and SIGs to the Regional FA
    • And only one candidate picked and returned nomination form for the position of chairperson for the DFA Executive

    By the powers entrusted in the FUFA Electoral Committee by the FUFA Electoral Code, the Committee hereby announces the following candidates as duly elected for the respective positions having gone through unopposed.

    The Committee shall however finalize the DFA election process on the 29th April 2017 as per the Election Road map.

    In addition, the FUFA Electoral Committee informs all stakeholders that the DFAs whose elections have been postponed will take place on or before the 5th May 2017 after completion of verification.

    The FUFA Electoral Committee has successfully held its second press conference at FUFA House, which they used to communicate to the media on the latest developments of their activities included this Saturday’s elections for District Football Associations.

    The well attended press conference on Wednesday afternoon was held in Mengo, Kampala graced by the chairperson of the Committee, Sam Bakiika. It was broadcast live on the football radio 102.1 FUFA fm

    Bakiika briefed the media on the smooth progress of the entire electoral process where the nominations exercise at district level was a smooth exercise.

    ‘I sincerely appreciate the role of media in this entire campaign where they have tried to sensitize the public about the process’ Bakiika noted.

    He also handed over some of the certificates named Declaration of Candidature for the respective successful candidates from the district football associations.

    Dirisa Kasalirwe one of the three delegates from Rubaga district received FUFA President Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo’s certificate since the incumbent FUFA Presidential candidate is away on official duties in Egypt.

    Bakiika also mentioned the districts with irregularities where the elections have been put on hold until further verification is completed. Among these include Nebbi, Bududa, Iganga, Bugiri, Mbale, Hoima, Kisoro, Gulu and Kapchorwa.

    The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) for women at District level is also a matter to be handled by the FUFA Electoral Committee.

    Azam Uganda Premier League: Vipers halt KCCA’s unbeaten run at Lugogo

    KCCA 1-2 Vipers

    Vipers Sports Club brought to an end KCCA’s unbeaten run on the Phillip Omondi Astro turf at Lugogo with a 2-1 well worked out victory on Tuesday.

    KCCA took the lead through Geofrey Sserunkuma who scored a penalty after Nico Wakiro Wadada had handled the ball in the forbidden area.

    It was Sserunkuma’s 18th  goal of the season in as many games of the top league this term.

    Vipers made amends scoring through Tonny Odur and Moses Waiswa to win the game.

    Despite the slip up, KCCA FC remains top of the 16 team log standings with 48 points same as second placed SC Villa but with two games in hand.

    The top tier league will resume on Friday.

    FUFA Big League: Maroons defeat Kyambogo in Luzira to lead Elgon group

    Maroons 3-1 Kyambogo

    Maroons F.C overcame a hard fighting Kyambogo 3-1 in an Elgon group FUFA Big league game played at the Luzira stadium on Tuesday.

    The goals for the winning team came from Patrick Kaddu (penalty), Pius Obuya and an own goal from Cedric Otti.

    Ibra Kaddu got the consolation for Kyambogo football club.

    Maroons now have 45 points off 21 games with an away game coming against Busia Fisheries this Friday. This means, second placed Ndejje University can not finish ahead of Maroons.

    Maroons earns the direct slot to join the Azam Uganda Premier League after Masavu who leads the Rwenzori group.

    The third club shall be promoted via a promotional play off. Play offs start on 4th May 2017 at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

    Meanwhile, the FUFA Big league continues on Thursday and Friday this week.

    FUFA Polls 2017: First set of elections conducted, District Delegates to be declared, Polling assistants for Regional elections trained

    The first set of FUFA polls 2017 has been conducted successfully at FUFA House with 10 referees’ assessors elected to the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) Assembly.

    FUFA’s 48 certified referees’ assessors had the mandate to vote their 10 representatives. 27 attended but 4 of them were not allowed to participate because they have already been nominated in their respective districts to represent referees.

    FUFA Electoral Committee Vice Chairman Yusuf Awuye was the returning officer.

    How they were voted: Ronnie Kalema (23), Ali Waiswa (21), Wanyama Fred (20), Kimbugwe Hillary (20), Rosebell Rwamuyamba (20), Katumba George Wamala (19), Kubingi 18, David Davies Katabira (19), Ali Kalyango (17), Adipo Catherine (16)

    The 10 representatives will be joined by 22 FIFA Referees (2017 list) and 2 delegates each representing FUFA’s 8 regions (Kampala, Buganda, Northern, North East, Western, Eastern, West Nile and Kitara).

    They will form an Assembly for UFRA with 48 delegates, who will vote three (3) delegates to the FUFA Assembly on 2nd June, 2017.

    FUFA statutes as amended during the AGM in Luwero, 2016 state that one of the 3 delegates representing referees to the FUFA Assembly must be a female.

     

    FUFA Electoral Committee (FEC) to meet on Tuesday

    FEC will convene on Tuesday at FUFA House to carry out verification of nominations and complaints at district level. On Wednesday, the FUFA Electoral Committee will declare the candidates for the various positions at District level ahead of the polls on Saturday 29th April, 2017.

    Regional level polls preparations underway 

    The FUFA Electoral committee trained poling assistants for the elections at FUFA Regional level that will start on 3rd May, 2017.

    The poling assistants will join the FUFA Electoral Committee members already representing each of the 8 FUFA regions.

    Regional empowerment is priority to the game’s development, FUFA President discloses to West Nile region football leaders

    Stages of football development world over remain a key element in the general growth of the beautiful game.

    This was the gist of the message contained in the key note address of the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo to the West Nile football leaders.

    Eng. Magogo was accompanied by the second Vice President Darius Mugoye, FUFA Executive Committee members Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel and Rasoul Aliga alongside the historic FUFA national teams’ officer.

    While addressing the diligent servants of the game in the country (football leaders) in West Nile region whom he met at Desert Breeze Hotel in Arua Municipality, the FUFA President fronted empowerment of the respective regions as a key priority in the eventual process of football development.

    “Regions are the bed rock of football development in the country. FUFA is on steady fast road to empower the regions to regulate football” Eng. Magogo noted.

    He cited clear examples where regions ought to engage the respective opinion leaders to include politicians, religious sect leaders, businessmen and ordinary fans in a bid to grow further the wings of football.

    “FUFA has empowered the regional football associations to regulate the game of football. Regions have to open up relations with opinion leaders to market the game further. Regions also need to have the means to generate their own monies. . Football is a very expensive venture to run that is why there is need for collective efforts. At FUFA, the first step we undertook was to improve marketing by recruiting trained and professional marketers” he added.

    His address was center alongside four areas – financial, international organization of FUFA, improvement relationship between the government and the federation as well as the general football development.

    Financially, FUFA made a great stride to improve the budget from Ug.shs 4 billion to Ug.shs 14 billion.

    He cited the advancement in technical department where there has been a tremendous increment in the number of CAF licensed coaches from 28 in 2012 to over 500 by 2017 with 38 CAF A licences.

    Other areas have been the professionalization of club football with Azam TV leading the sponsorship of the top flight league.

    Referees’ payments drastically improved from 20,000/ per head to 150,000 for every match handled.

    Fans are now more interested in watching local football than before and the performance of the country’s representatives at the CAF Club competitions has improved.

    “It is not by accident that our clubs KCCA and Vipers have done well on the continent. It has been performance on continent is not by accident” he remarked.

    Uganda was also among the first countries of the seven on the continent to take upon the CAF Club licencing system,

    There is a national youth league (FUFA Juniors U-17 league), national Women Elite league (now in the third season) and the CECAFA Women football tournament was played in Uganda for the first time.

    He also hinted on the five year strategic plan for the regions where the regional facilitation per year improved from Ug.shs 1m to Ug.shs 25M.

    About 300 balls to be distributed to regions, according at least four courses per region in the areas of coaching, sports medicine, refereeing and administration

    The West Nile region leaders lauded the current FUFA leadership where a massive 247 level one coaching courses have been undertaken.

    Only in West Nile region alone, 239 coaches have been educated.

    They posed their biggest challenge been sub-standard sports infrastructure.

    Prior to the Arua meeting, Eng. Magogo also met with football leaders in Pader district where he also watched a football game.

    In Arua, he watched the action packed encounter between Onduparaka and Sadolin Paints at the Betway Green Light Stadium.

    The well attended game ended in a goal-less draw.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president, Eng. Moses Magogo was among the hundreds of fans at the Betway Green Light stadium when the home side Onduparaka played to a goal-less draw with visiting Sadolin Paints on Saturday.

    The match coincided with the FUFA President’s visit of the West Nile region region.

    It was an entertaining match that witnessed both clubs missing several chances.

    Living Kabon and captain Muhammed Shaban came close for Onduparaka while Nasser Muzamiru missed for Sadolin Paints.

    In the other matches played on Saturday, SC Villa Jogoo held KCCA to one all draw at Masaka Recreational stadium.

    Geofrey Sserunkuma gave KCCA the lead when he scored his 17th goal of the campaign before Emmanuel Okwi leveled the matters with about a quarter of an hour to play.

    At the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja, the home side BUL overcame Lweza 2-1.

    Villa Oromochan was on target twice for BUL before Owen Kasule pulled a late consolation to give a tense and epic climax to the match.

    The league will return on Tuesday when KCCA plays host to Vipers at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

    Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic has named the final national team sqaud that will face off with the select West Nile team at the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo on Sunday.

    Micho named the team on Friday afternoon after the final session held at the Phillip Omondi stadium in Lugogo.

    The coach saluted the spirit, dedication and commitment of all the players engaged in training especially from the FUFA Big league and University Football league.

    There are 2 players from the university league and 6 from the FUFA Big league.

    “I want to thank all the players who took part in the training sessions. They have been dedicated and committed to the cause. Uganda is a goldmine of talent” Micho told the media at Lugogo in a special press conference he announced the squad.

    Ibrahim Saddam Juma and Muhammed Shaban are the captain and vice captains respectively.

    Departure from Kampala is at 7 a.m to Paidha ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic has expressed gratitude and appreciation for the response of the players who turned up for training on Thursday morning at the Phillip Omondi stadium in Lugogo.

    ‘I am been impressed by the abundant talent in Uganda. We have to give the players courage and confidence to play. We still have one more session on Friday before naming the final team to Paidha’ Micho told www.fufa.co.ug.

    Micho will take 22 players to Paidha, Zombo district for the Uganda Cranes regional tour match to be played on Sunday 23rd April, 2017.
