    CECAFA: F.A Presidents pass resolutions to improve football in the region

    The Council of East and Central Africa (CECAFA) presidents have successfully convened at FUFA House in Kampala, Uganda on Wednesday.

    The well attended meeting was conducted at the main headquarters of the Uganda F.A found in Mengo, aimed at discussing for the betterment of football development in the region.

    Seven federation presidents including the host, Eng. Moses Magogo were engaged in a tranquil meeting held at FUFA House board room.

    Rwanda’s Vincent Nzamwita, Jamal Malinzi (Tanzania), Juneidi Tilmo (Ethiopia), Nicolas Mwendwa (Kenya), Hon. Ndikuniyo Reverien (Burundi) and CAF’s newly approved member nation Zanzibar was represented by Ravia Faina.

    South Sudan, Sudan and Djibouti missed the meeting with apology.

    Eng. Magogo appreciated the members who attended the meeting.

    “This brain storming meeting has been organized to discuss about the current and future state of the CECAFA football” Eng. Magogo remarked.

    The F.A Presidents came up with a 9 point resolution programme that is aimed at helping football development in the CECAFA region.

    After the meeting, the F.A Presidents addressed the members of the media in a special press conference held at FUFA House.

    Each of them was then presented with souvenirs of the  historic Uganda Cranes jersey used at the AFCON 2017 finals in Gabon.

    The gifts by the FUFA President were a token of appreciation before they had a guided tour around the FUFA headquarters.

    The Presidents vowed to convene as many times as possible in a bid to revive the legacy of CECAFA region.

    The FUFA President then hosted his guests on the football radio, 102.1 FUFA f.m

    The resolutions included;

    1 – Amend the CECAFA constitution.

    2 – Convene a Congress for CECAFA as soon as possible

    3 – Ensure that CECAFA region gets permanent headquarters

    4 – Improve on the CECAFA competitions with emphasis on the youth events (U-15, U-17, and U-20 for both girls and boys) and beach soccer.

    5 – Improve the technical aspects of the game in terms of refereeing, coaching, administration and medical

    6 – Improve marketing and communication for the CECAFA region with re-branding high on the agenda.

    7 – CECAFA Region to submit an official bid to host the Africa Nations Cup finals in teh near future.

    8 – CECAFA Region to have effective representation on the CAF Executive Committee.

    9 –Come up with a proposal to FIFA on how to access fund to support CECAFA activities in line with development of football at youth, women and beach soccer.

  • 3rd FUFA Corporate Tournament: 22 teams confirmed so far

    3rd FUFA Corporate Tournament:

    6th May 2017 – At Kampala International School of Uganda KISU), Bukoto

    The third edition of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Corporate tournament is steadily garnering steam.

    A total of 22 teams have confirmed to take part of 19th April 2017 according to the FUFA Marketing Director, Esther Musoke.

    So far, we have 22 teams from the corporate world confirming.

    This tournament is a signature brand aimed to draw the corporate world for networking opportunities and also encourage them to make an impact in Ugandan football.

    The theme for this year’s tournament is “Football for Health”.

    Partners:

    The tournament has a wide range of partners on board; AAR (will provide health team to manage all medical services, counseling, screening and testing), coca cola, Pan African Pyramid and 102.1 FUFA f.m.

    There will be a curtain raiser match between Pan African Pyramid and FUFA President’s XI.

    National Water and Sewage Corporation is the 2 time winning champion.

    Micho names two squads to prepare for Cranes regional tour of West Nile

    West Nile vs Uganda Cranes on Sunday 23rd April, 2017 in Paidha

    Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic has named two squads-one with players from the University Football League and the other of stars in the FUFA Big League.

    42 players have been selected from the University football league while 37 are coming from the FUFA Big League. The two sets of players will train on Thursday and Friday at the Philip Omondi Stadium starting at 8am.

    Micho will take 22 players to Paidha, Zombo district for the Uganda Cranes regional tour match to be played on Sunday 23rd April, 2017 at the Bar okoro stadium.

    The Uganda Cranes regional tours are sponsored by Airtel Uganda and Nile Special.

  • FUFA Executive listens to the football players’ Association’s call to support Issa Sekatawa

    FUFA Executive Committee has listened to the call by one of its Member Associations-Uganda Football Players’ Association (UFPA) to extend a helping hand to football icon Issa Sekatawa who is down with a broken leg.

    At the FUFA weekly press conference held on Wednesday morning at FUFA House, FUFA announced its support towards the former Uganda Cranes striker.

    ‘Upon request by Uganda Football Players Association (UFPA), FUFA has offered to meet the Surgery expenses of 5m UGX for Isa Sekatawa. The Players Association headed by Ntege Patrick, Edward Kalungi, Paul Mukatabala and Lawrence Kizito made the request to FUFA for consideration with contribution to Sekatawa’s current state of health’ said FUFA Deputy CEO Humphrey Mandu during the weekly press conference.

    ‘Paul Ssali who played with Sekatawa for the Uganda Cranes in the 80s was another instrumental figure in ensuring that FUFA responds to this call’

    ‘We are elected to serve the 33 members of FUFA and when we were approached by the UFPA, the Executive Committee did not hesitate to support Sekatawa’ said Magogo the FUFA President.

    Isa Sekatawa who was also referred to as ‘Sokatabu and Golden Boy’ played for the Uganda Cranes, Express FC, Nytil FC and KCC FC in the 80s and early 90s.

    He continued to play football in his free time until fate had him break his leg in February this year at Nakivubo stadium while training with the Ex-internationals.

    ‘Nothing will take away what Sekatawa achieved while playing for Uganda Cranes. It is an obligation for football to join his family to ensure he gets back to playing football which remains his favorite pass time activity’ added FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo

    FUFA is hopeful that the rest of the football fraternity will join the cause and help Sekatawa recover from the injury.

    FUFA wishes Sekatawa a quick recovery.

    CECAFA Region F.A Presidents meet in Kampala for brain storming session

    Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) member presidents are expected to converge in Kampala for a key brain storming convention.

    At least seven presidents from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zanzibar, Ethiopia and host Uganda will meet at FUFA Headquarters in Mengo, Kampala on Wednesday afternoon.

    FUFA Spokesman, Ahmed Hussein confirmed the meeting which is expected to steer CECAFA region football administration and management in the expected right direction.

    Seven CECAFA presidents shall be engaged in a meeting that will highlight the current state and future of football in the region.

    All the resolutions will be communicated to the media at a special press conference to be held later on Wednesday at 6 p.m (FUFA House)

    South Sudan, Djibouti and Sudan have missed the meeting with apologies.

    This will be the first ever meeting of CECAFA Presidents in Uganda under the reign of Eng. Moses Magogo.

    Uganda Cup 2016/17:

    1st Semi-final: Paidha Black Angels Vs Sadolin Paints – Bar Okoro stadium, Zombo

    2nd Semi-final: Police or KCCA Vs Express – Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole or Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo

    Pending quarter final match: Police Vs KCCA – Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (Sunday, 30th April 2017)

    Uganda Cup semi-final draws for the 43rd edition were successfully held at FUFA House on Wednesday.

    The first semi-final will be held between Paidha Black Angels and Sadolin Paints at Bar Okoro Stadium in Zombo.

    10 time winners, Express football club await the winner of either KCCA or Express in the second semi-final.

    FUFA Competitions director, Ali Mwebe supervised the draws flanked by the Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic and the FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein.

    The only remaining quarter final match between Police and KCCA that was earlier scheduled for 23rd April 2017 has been now shifted to 30th April 2017

    Mwebe also clarified about the format of play in the semi-finals, the host venue and the CSR cause attached to the Uganda Cup.

    The semi-finals shall be two legged. The FUFA team supervised the facilities in Arua and confirmed the finals shall be held at the Betway Green Light Stadium on 27th May 2017.

    There are two training grounds confirmed – NTC Moni ground and Arua Public School play ground.

    The CSR cause will see donations given to Arua Remand Home.

    The tentative date for semi-finals shall be held between 12th and 14th May 2017.

    Vipers are the reigning holders of the Uganda Cup whose winner earns the ticket to play at the CAF Confederation cup.

    The Azam Uganda Premier league continued on Tuesday with three games on schedule.

    Two of the matches were played as Express and Jinja Municipal Council Hippos game did not take place because the latter failed to travel (league committee will pronounce themselves on the matter after 48 hours).

    At the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja, Bashir Mutanda scored a penalty in the 53rd minute for home side Kirinya- Jinja S.S as they won 1-0 against SC Villa Jogoo.

    Kirinya-Jinja S.S’ striker George Ssenkaaba was red carded for a second bookable offence with about 15 minutes to play.

    Police and Bright Stars played to a goal-less stalement at Nelson Mandela National Stadium.

    The league returns tomorow (Wednesday) when KCCA, fresh from achieving the CAF Confederation group stage qualification feat plays host to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

    Meanwhile, Vipers will host Soana at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Friday, 20th April 2017 than on the originally set 21st April 2017 (on request of Vipers’ management).

    Also, the Onduparaka versus Sadolin Paints that had been scheduled for Friday, 20th April 2017 has been pushed ahead to Saturday, 21st April 2017 with a slight change in kick off time at 4 p.m.

    KCCA progressed on 4-3 penalties

    Reigning Azam Uganda Premier League champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club became the first club from Uganda to progress to the final group stage of the CAF Confederation cup.

    The feat was achieved in the Egyptian city of Ismailia  on Saturday following a 4-3 post penalty victory over Al Masry.

    KCCA lost 1-0 on the day but the tie was sent direct to post match penalties after a 1 all aggregate tie having won the first leg at Phillip Omondi stadium 1-0 courtesy of Derrick Nsibambi’s late winner.

    Goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan saved two spot kicks as Geofrey Sserunkuma, Muzamiru Mutyaba, Timothy Dennis Awany and Ochan himself scored for the Ugandan side.

    KCCA had earlier been eliminated by South Africans Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions league before they were diverted to the CAF Confederation league.

    The group stages of the CAF Confederation cup will commence soon.

    2017 FUFA Polls: Picking of Nomination forms at District level extended till Friday 14th April

    The FUFA Electoral Committee hereby extends the period for picking forms at District Football Association level and clarifies as follows:-

    1. Aware of the fact that some DFAs received the election materials late due to logistical reasons; the FUFA Electoral Committee acting in accordance with the FUFA Electoral Code and guidelines hereby extends the deadline for picking nomination forms for delegates to represent DFA to the Regional Assemblies to 14th April 2017, 1700 hours.
    1. In accordance with Art 1 of the FUFA Electoral Code, the FUFA Electoral Committee hereby extends the deadline for picking nomination forms for the position of District Football Association Executive and SIGs delegates to RFA to start from 13th April 2017 upto 20th April 2017; 1700hours to give the candidates ample time to scrutinize their Executive Committee candidature lists.
    1. The FUFA Electoral Committee also hereby reminds candidates standing on election by list to comply with Article 19 and 20 of the FUFA Election Guidelines -which disqualify a person from appearing on two candidature lists and discontinues the Invalid candidates from further participation in the FUFA Election process accordingly.

    FUFA Elections 2017: Electoral Committee addresses media

    The FUFA Electoral committee has on Wednesday addressed the media during the Weekly press conference at the Uganda’s home of football in Mengo – Kampala.

    This was the first time that the committee endorsed at the 92nd FUFA Ordinary Assembly in Luwero was engaging the media in an official address.

    FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson who by virtual of his position at the federation is mandated to be part of the committee and independently oversee their activities officially inaugurated the committee led by Sam Bakiiki.

    “At the 92nd FUFA Ordinary Assembly in Luwero, the FUFA Electoral Committee was endorsed. I am part of the committee as mandated by the FUFA Constitution to oversee the activities and also assist in the logistical area. The committee is independent and competent enough to execute all their activities without interference to the best of their abilities. The FUFA elective assembly shall be held on 5th August 2017 in Masindi starting at 9 a.m” Watson told the media.

    Addressing the media at the first official press conference as the FUFA Electoral Committee chairperson, Sam Bakiika, who was flanked by all the members on the committee vowed to work diligently for a free and fair electoral process.

    “We have already started the road map for a successful electoral process that will lead to the eventual elections in August 2017. This is a process and not a one off event with a series of activities lined up. We have trained the polling assistants and other officials in all the districts of the country. The first task we undertook was to first ascertain the number of districts with active football leagues where we trained all the leaders. This will be a very transparent, free and fair electoral process” Bakiika noted.

    BUL Football Club overcame Jinja Municipal Council Hippos 2-1 in the Jinja derby played on Tuesday.

    Yunus Sibira and Derrick Walulya were on target for Peter Onen’s coached side, BUL.

    Moses Batali pulled a goal back for JMC Hippos but it was little too late to cause an impact.

    The JMC Hippos and BUL affair was relied live on the football radio, 102.1 FUFA f.m.

    At the Champions stadium in Mwererwe, home side Bright Stars and Kirinya Jinja S.S shared the spoils in a goal-less affair.

    Bright Stars missed a series of goal scoring chances through Joshua Kawadwa.

    The league will now return on Good Friday.

    Vipers 0-1 Paidha Black Angels

    Sadolin Paints 2-1 Onduparaka

    FUFA Big league club Paidha Black Angels caused one of the major upsets in the on-going Uganda Cup when they eliminated the reigning champions, Vipers following a 1-0 result at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Sunday.

    Fred Ameko scored the game winner after 29 minutes to book a semi-final slot.

    At the Nelson Mandela National stadium, Namboole, host club Sadolin Paints overcame Onduparaka 2-1.

    Fred Kyambadde and Nasser Muzamiru were on target for Sadolin Paints.

    Samson Ceasar Okhuti pulled a goal back for Onduparaka, who were last season’s losing finalists.

    The other two quarter-finals will be played in the coming weeks. Police awaits the winner between Kataka and KCCA as URA will host Express at the Mehta stadium in Lugazi.

    The final of the Uganda Cup for this year will be held by the West Nile region.

    Olila SS women FC and Muteesa I Royal University are through to the semifinals of the FUFA Women’s Cup. The duo joined UCU Lady Cardinals and Gafford Ladies who qualified on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

    At Uganda Martyrs High School play ground an evenly balanced match saw Muteesa overcome Kawempe Muslim SS 1-0 to knock out the defending league champions.

    It was Mutesa’s first ever win over Kawempe in all FUFA organised competitions but the two sides meet again in the FUFA Women Elite League in a fortnight’s time in Kawempe.

    Muteesa won the match thanks to a first half headed goal by Nakibuka Janet.

    Kawempe tried to pile pressure on the home side with defender Yudaya Nakayenze moving forward as Tracy Akiror dropping to the central defence. However Mutesa’s custodian Daisy Nakaziro thwarted the dangerous attempts.

    At the Katabi Gombolola play ground, Olila S.S overcame Taggy Girls 1-0.

    Sharon Achieng netted the only goal of the day.

    The final of the FUFA Women’s cup will be played in Busia.

    FUFA Elections 2017: Electoral Committee releases road map

    The FUFA Electoral Committee headed by Sam Bakiika has released the road map for the 2017 FUFA elections for over 1000 positions in Ugandan football across the country.

    The elections will cater for the different positions at district, Regional, Executive and FUFA President.

    The road map starts with appointment of the presiding officers and end with the election of FUFA President and his Executive on 5th August 2017.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially launched the campaign to usher in a new design for the national teams’ jerseys.

    The jerseys to be designed will be  nine (9) in total.

    The banner promoting the campaign to design Uganda National team’s jerseys

    FUFA President Eng.Moses Magogo launched the campaign during the weekly press conference held on Wednesday 17thMarch, 2017 morning at the Federation’s headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.

      ‘Like we communicated earlier, today is the occasion where the historic jersey that the Cranes used in the AFCON qualification campaign of 2015 and 2017 and in AFCON finals in Gabon will be retired as as away of honour’ said the FUFA President.

      The campaign will be open to the general public to summit their entries for a month starting today (22nd March 2017) to 22nd April.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo presented the Uganda Cranes historic jerseys to H.E Stephanie Rivoal Ambassador of France to Uganda with captain Geoffrey Massa’s jersey. Yunus Sentamu and Hassan Wasswa jerseys were also given to the France Military team officials who visited FUFA House on Wednesday.

      ‘We open a campaign whereby for one month starting today  will be running for any Ugandan, or group of Ugandans or organisation that is interested in coming up with the new design’ he indicated.

      The entries will be open in three categories including the  Uganda Cranes (men), Crested Cranes (women) and the other subsequent national teams that will be worn by the Sand Cranes (national beach soccer team), Futsal,  National junior teams for mena nd women (Kobs (U23), Hippos (U20) and Cubs (U17)).

    Designs needed;

     3 Sets for Uganda Cranes

    Set 1: Predominantly Red (Home kit)

    Set 2: Predominantly Yellow (Home kit)

    Set 3: Predominantly White (Away kit)

    3 Sets for Crested Cranes

    Set 1: Predominantly Red (Home kit)

    Set 2: Predominantly Yellow (Home kit)

    Set 3: Predominantly White (Away kit).

     3 sets for Other National teams

    Set 1: Predominantly Red (Home kit)

    Set 2: Predominantly Yellow (Home kit)

    Set 3: Predominantly White (Away kit)

    Note: Black, Yellow, Red and White-only colour shades allowed to be used

      ‘Unlike previously where all the national teams have been using the same design, this time round the Uganda Cranes and Crested cranes jerseys will be different in design while the other  subsequent teams will also have another design but differnet shades’ added Magogo.

      The overall winner with all the nine (9) designs will be announced by a panel set up by FUFA and will walk away with a cash prize of UGX 5 million shillings following the terms and conditions in place. The winner will also watch Uganda Cranes games at home free for one year.
