    Coaching: 42 up coming coaches undertake FUFA beginners’ course

    In line with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA)’s prime agenda of equipping personnel with knowledge and certification, the department of the technical director and education have embarked on a beginners’ coaching course in the Kitara region.

    A total of 42 participants on Tuesday started a week long beginners’ course at the Masindi resource center.

    FUFA Technical Director, Asuman Lubowa, also the CAF Instructor is the course facilitator  believes the huge turn up will help boost the Bunyoro Kitara zone;

    I am impressed by the huge turn out of all the students in the class. Their willingness to learn is another plus.

    This i believe will help boost the standards of coaching and the game in the region and Uganda as a whole.

    The participants are from the districts of Masindi, Hoima, Kigumba, Kiryandongo and Buliisa.

    Practical sessions of this beginners’ course are held at Boma play ground in the heart of Masindi Municipality.

    The Second division league (FUFA Big league) returns on Thursday, 25th February 2016 after being pushed ahead last week due to the presidential and parliamentary elections.

    Ten matches shall be played on the day across the different playing facilities.

    Four matches will be played in Rwenzori group and the remaining six in the Elgon group.

    In the Rwenzori group, Kireka United is at their Namboole home (outside play grouns) to Hope Doves.

    Kireka United lost their first game of the second round, 3-0 to Kirinya/Jinja S.S.

    Proline Soccer Academy have a chance to stretch the lead at the summit of the Rwenzori group when they play host to Kasese district’s Sun City at Nakivubo stadium in Kampala.

    Elsewhere, Entebbe based Masavu F.C makes the trip to Masaka to play Synergy F.C and another Entebbe club, Entebbe F.C will entertain Wakiso United at Bugonga play ground.

    In the Elgon group, on form Onduparaka F.C, fresh from walloping Artland Katale 3-0 will host Water F.C at the green light arena.

    Lira United and CRO F.C shall be engaged in a 2 p.m fixture at Lango sports ground before a 4 p.m game between another Lira entity, Sporting United against Artland Katale F.C.

    In the other matches on the day, Boma Young will play footballing students, Ndejje University in Hoima as Bukedea Town council hosts Baza Holdings at Bukedea Primary school play ground.

    Promotion:

    Three clubs shall be promoted at the end of the 2015/16 to the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    Each of the top clubs (per group – Rwenzori and Elgon) earns a direct slot to the elite league.

    Meanwhile, the third club is determined via a promotional play off after the top two clubs per group play a semi-final before the final to determine the third club.

    Relegation:

    To create space for the clubs being promoted from the regional leagues, eight clubs (four per group) are relegated at the end of the season.

    Sports Infrastructure: Philip Omondi Stadium works continue

    The long awaited Philip Omondi stadium Astro Turf project is in the final stages of completion.

    In the morning of Thursday, 1tth February 2016, a delegation from FUFA and KCCA football club and the city authority officials visited the playing facility under construction.

    FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson was joined by the FUFA astro turf specialist Ivan Kintu Bayige, the club officials CEO David Tamale, Chairman Julius Ray Kabugo and Juliet Namuddu, the Education and Social Services officer at KCCA on a courtesy visit to monitor the progress of the works.

    Next week, a top FIFA official, Steve Baker will visit the facility for assessment before the turf is laid.

    The project started in October 2015 and is expected to be completed in March 2016.

    Uganda Cup 2015/16: Defeat for URA, Simba as Bright Stars progress

    The Uganda Cup round of 64 stage continued on Sunday afternoon with defeats to three premier league clubs -Uganda Revenue Authority F.C, army side Simba Sports Club and Jinja Municipal Council football club.

    Simba lost 5-4 to Kira Young, Kampala University disappointed Jinja Municipal Council Hippos and Sun City from Kasese shocked Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club.

    However there were victories for Bright Stars F.C and Sadolin Paints F.C.

    Sadolin Paints humiliated St Marys 5-1 at Nabweru play ground while Bright Stars destroyed Kireka United at their own home yard, at the Nelson Mandela national stadium outer ground.

    Bright Stars’ goals came from skipper Bernard Muwanga, Joshua Kawadwa and Baker Lukooya.

    Richard Mugalu scored the consolation for the home side which was an equaliser at 1-1 before Bright stars netted two more goals.

    The winner of the Uganda Cup represents the country at the CAF Confederation cup.

    UMEA Games: Women football added on list

    When the 2016 Uganda Muslim solidarity games take center stage in Masaka come the month of March, there will surely be excitement about the addition of women football on the games list.

    Masaka Secondary School will host this year’s games as confirmed by the Chairman of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Hajj Twahil Kiteezaala who also revealed that the games will run from 24th to 28th March.

    The road to UMEA Solidarity Games 2016 started at the closing ceremony of the 3rd edition in Kasawo where Masaka Secondary School was awarded the hosting rights. We are now deep into activities leading to 2016 climax

    Only Muslim founded Secondary Schools under their umbrella association UMEA take part in these Solidarity Games.

    More than 30 schools are expected to take part in this year’s edition and will tussle it out in a variety of games which include Football (boys & girls, netball (Girls) among other sporting disciplines like handball (Boys & Girls) plus Volleyball (Boys & Girls).

    For the first time in the history of the games, women football will be played.

    Last year, the games were held by Kasawo S.S.

    Whereas Masaka S.S won the football title, Kibuli S.S were the overall champions when all the disciplines were combined.

    During the previous edition, FUFA’s generous hands witnessed the official handing over of over 30 footballs used at the tournament.

    City Tyres Limited bought all the trophies and awards given to the exceling individuals as the refreshments were well catered for by Crown Beverages Limited under the Pepsi and Mirinda brands.

    The other partner was Rwenzori mineral water.

    The UMEA Games is yet another fertile ground that FUFA eagerly looks to as far as unearthing new talents is concerned.

    Refereeing: Medical and physical fitness tests underway

    A head of the start of the various second round for the Azam Uganda Premier league, FUFA Second Division (FUFA Big league), regional leagues and all the lower division leagues, the referees are getting prepared with the mandatory medical and physical fitness tests.

    A total of over 130 referees (FIFA, national and beach soccer referees) have undertaken the medical tests on Friday at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    All the FIFA referees (apart from Mark Ssonko), who is still at the Orange CHAN championships are part of the tests.

    The referees are checked for heart beat, temperature, body metabolism, general health level among other things during the medicals

    The rest are national and beach soccer referees.

    According to the FUFA referees’ manager, Samuel Wesonga Egesa, all the referees will be required to undertake the physical fitness tests at Nelson Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Saturday, 30th January 2016, starting at 7 a.m.

    The beach soccer referees will conduct their physical drills early in the morning at Lido, moments before the start of the second round of the Pepsi national beach soccer league.

    It is a requirement for all referees who handle FUFA sanctioned matches to have undertaken these mandatory tests to access the level of fitness, health status before embarking on refereeing any fixture.

    It is now barely a week to the first ever FUFA Corporate Tournament and all preparations have been now finalized.

    The inaugural one day tournament will be held on Saturday, 2nd May, 2015 at the FUFA Technical center, Njeru.

    There 8 teams that have already confirmed participation.

    The eight teams confirmed are; Airtel Uganda, National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Nile Breweries, Bidco, Red Pepper, Pepsi, National Water and Sewerage Corporation and the ever fresh FUFA XI that will be captained by the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo.

    FUFA C.E.O, Edgar Watson, Education Officer (Jackson Nyiima), Finance Director, Decolas Kiiza, Competitions Director, Ali Mwebe, FUFA Spokesman, Ahmed Hussein, Phillip Obwin, Hassan Kirunda are some of the expected stars to be paraded by the much fancied FUFA XI.

    The eight teams that have confirmed participation are looking forward to a highly anticipated day when the corporate world converges in Njeru. We expect a great tournament where Uganda Cranes Ambassador, Bebe Cool and his Gagamael crew will play the Eastern Uganda Journalists in a curtain raising match

    The Jinja District Football Association (JDFA) 4th division football league commenced towards the climax of 2014.

    After 2 matches for the 11 teams in the league, Bugembe Junior and Danida jointly lead the table standings with 4 points apiece.

    Bugembe is ahead with a goal difference. Central Tiger, who remains one of the teams with one fixture played (the other is Buwenda), lies third on the table standings.

    Bugembe Junior, Danida and Central Tigers are the only unbeaten teams so far in the league.
    The league resumes with match day three on Wednesday and Thursday.

    The best performers at the end of the league will be engaged in the Jinja Zonal Mini league to determine the teams that qualify to the regional league which feeds the FUFA Big League.

    Mulindwa mourns former FUFA delegate

    Honorary FUFA President (former FUFA President) Lawrence Mulindwa has described the late Stanley Kiiza as having been a close friend and personal advisor during his eight years tenure as a Federation President.

    Kiiza a former delegate to the FUFA General Assembly died from Mulago hospital on Tuesday this week and his body was laid to rest at Bugambe village in Hoima yesterday (Thursday).

    In his condolence message delivered to the bereaved family in Hoima by Rogers Byamukama (FUFA Executive Committee member and delegate from Kitara region), Mulindwa said he was saddened with the ‘robbery’ of a great sportsman and administrator.

    “I still recall the key roles the deceased  played in ensuring a successful and stable administration of my leadership….Kiiza was a great advisor to me and we shall automatically miss him” reads part of Mulindwa’s message that also contained some undisclosed amount of money to help in burial preparations.

    May his soul Rest in eternal peace.

    FIFA Administration course flags off on Monday at Njeru

    Uganda is once again blessed to have yet another FIFA course just days after the closure of the coaching course on October 26.

    FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edgar Watson Suubi told www.fufa.co.ug that the upcoming course in administration was timely and would give the new office bearers an opportunity to acquire administrative skills.

    Over 30 participants have already been selected to attend this course at jeru Technical centre starting Monday 4th to 8th this month. All the eight FUFA Regional chairpersons and the new executive committee members have been invited for this course.

    “We shall also have some representatives from the secretariat and a few selected journalists from key media houses” Watson added.

    Participants are expected in Njeru on Sunday evening and the one week course will be residential. FIFA is sending one of its widely experienced administration Instructor Kennedy Ndebele to take charge of the training.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo hailed FIFA President Sepp Blatter for the training opportunities availed to Uganda.

    As part of the Uganda Cranes’ preparations for CECAFA senior Challenge Cup and CHAN 2014, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has organized an international friendly match against Amavubi of Rwanda in Kampala on Friday November 15.

    The highly anticipated encounter will be staged in Mandela National stadium, Namboole under floodlights. Kick off has been put at 6:00pm Local time.

    An official request for match officials (Referees) to handle the game has already been sent to Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

    Entry charges:

    Open seat: UGX 10,000 (Ten Thousand shillings)

    Pavilion: UGX 20,000 (Twenty thousand shillings)

    FUFA calls upon all our football fans to show up in big numbers at Namboole on that day.

    Uganda is expected in Nairobi on November 24 to launch their campaign of defending the CECAFA title.

    FUFA Executive Committee has organized an orientation workshop for all members of the working committees this Saturday at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    Second FUFA Vice President and event coordinator Darius Mugoye said the one day workshop is intended to equip the participants with details related to their expected duties.

    “Since their appointment, these members had not undergone this orientation and yet a good number of them are new. We have therefore found it timely to meet them for this cause this weekend”, Mugoye explained.

    The Federation is comprised of 17 statutory committees, five adhoc committees and three judicial bodies as indicated below:

  • FIFA Coaching Instructor happy with Ugandan coaches

    With just two days left to the end of the ongoing Fifa coaching course at Fufa Technical center in Njeru-Jinja, the Fifa instructor Ulric Mathiot (Seychelles) has heap-praised the 30-man class for the wonderful performance so far.

    “They have proved that they are good according to their performance in class. I am really impressed and I hope to have very good results at the end.” Ulric told our www.fufa.co.ug correspondent in Jinja shortly after the evening session on Wednesday.

    “I have put them in 5 groups of six each but so far they are doing well both theoretically and practically” the Seychellois born instructor further commented.

    When approached for a comment, the Fufa Technical Director Asuman Lubowa said he was overwhelmed with the efforts both  Fufa and Fifa have put-in to improve the quality of coaching in the country through such quality courses.

    “Each coach shall have acquired modern techniques which encompass different aspects like modern approach to players’ behaviour, approach to FIFA/CAF high profile tournaments, winning matches and developing coaches from playing staffs among others” noted the Ugandan FA Technical Director.

    The 5 day Fifa-funded coaching course was officially opened up on Monday this week by the Federation CEO, Edgar Watson Suubi and will end this Friday with the Fufa President Eng. Moses Magogo expected to preside over the closing ceremony.

    A total of 30 coaches from FUFA super league, Big league and schools are attending a 5 day FIFA coaching course that started at Njeru technical center on Monday morning.

    The five day course funded by FIFA is conducted by a FIFA instructor Ulric Mathiot from the Republic of Seychelles.

    According to FUFA technical Director Asuman Lubowa , the course has been brought in to help coaches improve on their performance on the pitch.

    ’’We appreciate such important courses for our coaches to enable them acquire modern tactics of the game. We want them to empower themselves with more knowledge and trends of modern football,” said Lubowa.

    The five day course is mainly attended by top class coaches from both the FUFA Super League and the FUFA Big League who do not possess the CAF ‘C’ Coaching License.

    Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Mathiot said he was impressed with the quality of the participants and sounded optimistic that all the 30 participants will automatically benefit from the course.

    ‘’Many times African coaches have not had enough facilities when having courses but this one from FIFA is more detailed and simplified. It gives a coach all modern the aspects that can help him understand the new trends of the game.’’ said the Seychelles veteran FIFA instructor.

    On the other hand FUFA CEO Edgar Watson was happy with FIFA’s plan of developing the game with such courses. “As FUFA, we want to see no coach handling a FUFA Super league club without a C-license.

    We shall appeal for more of such courses so as to avail our coaches with new coaching methods that match with the current trend of football”, said the CEO.

    He also warned the coaches against engaging themselves into football politics but instead concentrate on the technical matters as assigned to them. “Avoid turning political…allow the politicians to discuss political matters and concentrate on your technical role of guiding our young talents within your respective clubs” Watson further advised.

    BUL FC assistant Coach Arthur Kyesimira was delighted to be part of the course. ’’This course is more detailed than the courses I have attended before. I am hopeful for acquiring new and relevant knowledge that will in turn benefit my club” said a visibly excited Kyesimira.

  • Egypt loses 6-1 against Ghana

    The first leg of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Africa concluded this Tuesday with visiting Egypt suffering a humiliating 6-1 loss in Accra against Ghana. Bob Brandley the head coach for the Pharaohs had earlier promised to play the hosts with ‘the right mentality’ but he seem to have been overpowered by the home side.
