U-20 Total CAF Africa Cup of Nations Zonal Qualifiers

    23 – 06, December 2020

    *To be hosted by Tanzania

As the trip to Tanzania for CAF U20 zonal Cecafa Qualifiers nears, Uganda Hippos are in final stages of preparation ahead of the tournament commencement in Arusha, Tanzania.

    Two lined up practice matches:

Head coach Morley Byekwaso has lined-up two practice matches that will be used to assess the readiness and fitness levels of players before leaving for the tournament.

On Sunday November 15, they will be playing against the U17 Uganda Cubs in Njeru at Fufa Technical Centre at 9am under closed doors and on Tuesday November 17, they will travel to KCCA FC away at Lugogo, Kampala at 3pm.

    Team Departure to Tanzania:

Prior to the departure to Tanzania for the tournament, the team will once again go for a mandatory COVID-19 test on November 17 in the morning hours.

This will guarantee that some of the tournament’s and travel Covid 19 regulations and standard operating procedures are met.

Meanwhile, the Hippos had a practice match on Friday against Kampala City Council Authority Football Club that ended in a 3 all draw in Lugogo, Kampala at the newly rebranded MTN Omondi Stadium.

KCCA’s Kigozi opened the first stanza by registering his name on the score board when he notched a brace to put the host in a comfortable lead.

At the start of the second stanza, substitute Juma Balinya also scored the third to keep the host in the lead of the game by 3 goals to nil.

However, minutes after Balinya’s third goal of the game, one should say Morley Byekwaso’s guards picked the tactics pretty well during the half-time break when they bounced back to score three to finish it in style.

Uganda Hippos’ forward Najib Iga pulled one back to restore hope before midfield general Derrick Kakooza scored the second one to make it 3-2. It’s from there then that Bogere Ivan scored the third goal off the Kick from the penalty mark to make it end in a 3 all draw in the dying minutes of the game.

Either technical wings called for changes in a bid to test out the players at their disposal in varying formations of play.
