    2016 Airtel FUFA Awards to be launched Monday

    The 2016 Airtel FUFA Awards will be officially launched on Monday, 14th November 2016 at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

    According to the FUFA communications manager Ahmed Hussein, the awards will be launched at Achwa Hall starting at 10 a.m.

    The 2016 Airtel FUFA Awards will be launched on Monday, 14th November 2016 at Achwa Hall – Serena International Hotel in Kampala starting at 10 a.m

    The purpose of these awards to recognize the efforts of all those personalities who have worked hard throughout the season.

    During last year’s Airtel FUFA Awards, Faruku Miya, then playing at Vipers and Sandra Nabweteeme (then of Kawempe Muslim S.S) were voted the male and female respective best footballers in the country.

    The FUFA Awards have been held since 2008.

    Uganda Cranes 1-0 Congo Brazzaville

    Uganda Cranes has overcome Congo Brazzaville 1-0 during the group E of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday.

    Standard Liege midfielder Faruku Miya scored the lone strike of the day in the 19th minute of the game slightly marred by a head injury to central defender Murushid Jjuuko in the 10th minute.

    William Luwagga Kizito, who plays at Rio Ave in Portugal replaced the injuried Jjuuko which pushed Hassan Wasswa Mawanda to the central defence department.

    In the second half Michael Azira replaced the injured Tonny Mawejje in the 60th minute before Godfrey Walusimbi came in for Moses Oloya with less than 10 minutes to play.

    The match tickets for the Uganda Cranes versus Congo Brazzaville match hit the market officially on Wednesday at various selling points.

    The development was communicated by the FUFA International Match Organizing Committee chairman, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel on Wednesday morning during the weekly press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    Soccer fans have been urged to purchase the match tickets at the official released selling points to avoid buying fake tickets.

    Flanked by the FUFA Communications manager, Ahmed Hussein, Dr Ogwel also released the detailed programme the arrival of Congo Brazzaville team and match officials.

    We expect the match officials by Thursday evening and Congo Brazzaville arrives Wednesday

    Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes team continues to train on Wednesday afternoon at Namboole.

    Swedish based defender Ronald Mukiibi will be part of the training for the first time after arriving into the country on Tuesday night.

    Defender Ronald Mukiibi who plays for Swedish topflight side Östersunds FK has jetted into the country ahead of Saturday’s 2018 FIFA World cup qualifier at Namboole stadium. Mukiibi will join the rest of the squad at today’s open training session at the same stadium that will hot the match this weekend.

    ‘Mukiibi has arrived and he will take a rest at the team hotel in Naalya and later have a meeting with the Technical team headed by Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic. he will be provided with the day’s programme as released by the Cranes coach’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    ‘One player Mike Azira who plays for Colorado Rapids in the MAjot Legaue Soccer-US will join the camp tonight. we are looking forward to receiving him in camp’ added Hussein

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic says that the players reduced from the camp are still part of future plans laid out for Uganda Cranes. The Serbian coach is busy planning for Saturday’s tie against Congo Brazzaville in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifier at Mandela National stadium.

    Micho has now reduced his squad by 14 players and these are; Derrick Nsibambi, Yunus Sentamu, Joseph Nsubuga, Vitalis Tabu Abdul MAlik, Idris Lubega, Saddam Juma, Okoth Denis, Kassaga Richard, Lwaliwa Khalid, Kizito Keziron, Erisa Sekisambu, Lwesibawa Godfrey, Kayiwa Allan, Kagimu Shafik.

    Uganda Cranes 0-1 Zambia Chipolopolo Stars

    Uganda Cranes fell 1-0 to Zambia Chipolopolo Stars on Tuesday during the international build up match at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

    Chisamba Lungu scored the lone goal on the day in the first half of the well balanced game handed by FIFA Referee Dennis Batte.

    Uganda Cranes created several goal scoring opportunities with great positional awareness at the back line, two signs that spell hope of an improved performance come Saturday.

    The home side missed taking the lead when the Zambian goalkeeper stretched to parry out a header from Joseph Ochaya after a cross by Nicholas Wadada from the right wing.

    Godfrey Walusimbi was also denied by also a similar effort when his shot at goal was pushed out by the goalie for a corner.

    There were debuts to Shafiq Batambuze and Shaban Muhammed, marking a start of a long trek in their otherwise promising careers.

    Shaban is a product of all the youth football structures from the City Tyres U-14, U-17 and lately the U-20 national teams.

    The match was watched by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, State minister of sports, Hon. Charles Bakabulindi, Zambian delegation, FUFA secretariat staff and a few passionate fans.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic says that the players reduced from the camp are still part of future plans laid out for Uganda Cranes. The Serbian coach is busy planning for two international fixtures starting with Tuesday’s friendly with Zambia before taking on Congo Brazzaville in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifier at Mandela National stadium on Saturday.

    As Micho welcomes more players in camp, he has had to reduce the numbers in camp to accommodate the 19 foreign based stars he summoned last week.

    On Monday afternoon, Micho reduced his squad by 8 players and these are; Okoth Denis, Kassaga Richard, Lwaliwa Khalid, Kizito Keziron, Erisa Sekisambu, Lwesibawa Godfrey, Kayiwa Allan, Kagimu Shafik.

    The long awaited FUFA Women Elite league for the 2016/17 season started on Friday.

    The new season started on Friday with Ajax Queens’ 1-0 win against Eastern Heroes courtesy of Maureen Afoyo’s lone strike on the day.

    Ajax Queens won their second game 24 hours later, triumphing 3-1 against Olila Ladies.

    Still on Saturday, the defending champions, Kawempe Muslim Secondary School women football club started the season on a bright note winning 7-0 against London Stallions in Kawempe.

    Hasifah Nassuna, Juliet Nalukenge and Favour Nambatya each scored a brace apiece for the game.

    Viola Namuddu netted the other goal on the day.

    Gafford Ladies and Wakiso Hills played to a one all draw.

    On Sunday, Kampala Queens lost 1-2 to Mutesa Royal University.

    The Rinnes and Western United affair ended goal-less.

    This is the third season that the FUFA Women Elite League is being played with a total of 16 clubs taking part.

    Uganda Cranes resume training ahead of Zambia, Congo Brazzaville encounters

    Following their 6-1 victory against Kampala region select team in the national regional tour match, the Uganda Cranes will resume training on Sunday evening at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    All the players who featured in the match against Kampala region will continue to train with the addition of those who were rested (goalie Salim Jamal, Moses Oloya and Yunus Sentamu).

    Meanwhile, the professionals are expected on Sunday night and Monday ahead of the Zambia international build up on Tuesday.

    Ronald Mukiibi, Dennis Iguma, Godfrey Walusimbi, Isaac Isinde, Robert Odongkara, Yassar Mugerwa, William Luwagga Kizito, Farouk Miya, Geofrey Massa, Dennis Onyango, Khalid Aucho, Shafiq Batambuze and team captain Geofrey Massa are all expected by Monday.

    FUFA suspends referee Balikoowa

    FUFA Referees standing Committee (FRSC) has suspended one of the assistant referees Ngobi Balikoowa Musa who handled the Azam Uganda Premier League match no.86 between SC Villa Jogoo Vs Express FC on 29th October 2016 at Mandela National Stadium – Namboole

    The suspension takes immediate effect and for the rest of the 2016/17 season.

    On 31st October, 2016 the FRSC met and took a decision to suspend Balikoowa who officiated the above mentioned match.

    The other officials of the mentioned match will not be affected by this decision.

    The decision was taken after reviewing the  Referees Assessors report
 and the video clip indicating that the decision taken by the second 
assistant referee Balikoowa  in the 84th minute led to
 disallowing a would have been a valid third goal to visiting team (Express FC).

    FUFA through the FRSC will continue assessing matches at all competitions levels with a focused intention of developing and monitoring performance of match officials.

    The Uganda Cranes started official training sessions in preparation for three key matches to be played in the next 10 days starting with the Regional tour of Kampala this saturday at Mutessa II stadium, Wankuluku to be followed with an international friendly with Zambia on 8th Nov and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifier against Congo Brazzaville on 12th Nov.

    Cranes played a practice match against reigning league champions KCCA FC and won 1-0 thanks to Erisa Sekisambu’s goal.

    AUPL: BUL FC takes top honours in the Jinja derby played at Kakindu stadium

    The tensions were high as both teams headed into the Jinja derby between BUL FC and JMC Hippos at Kakindu stadium. Both teams share the same stadium and their results have not been convincing so far to their fans.

    When the ball got rolling, both sets of players had one target, to hit the back of the net. BUL had to thank Shaka Sozi, Sibira Yunus and Nkolo Braise for the goals as they got their names on the score sheet while Abdul Rajab netted the consolation for JMC Hippos who remain bottom of the table and are yet to win a game this season.

  • FUFA sad to lose Ex-Cranes star player Bukenya

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has received sad news following the death of former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper George Bukenya.

    Bukenya  who played for Uganda Cranes in the 60s, 70s died on Wednesday at Nsambya Hospital due to lung failure.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was left sad by the news;

    We have received news of the untimely death of George Bukenya. We are saddened by this sad news losing an Ex-International player.

    Bukenya was a great player at Coffee FC and with Uganda Cranes. The football family will miss him.

    Burial arrangements will be communicated later by the family.

    The crowds enjoyed the game. The turn up was big. That’s what local football needs-big turn up at local matches.

    Reigning Champions and table leaders KCCA FC defeated rivals Sc Villa Jogoo 3-1 in the Azam Uganda Premier League match on Tuesday evening at the Philip Omondi stadium.

    Paul Mucureezi got the goal scoring action under way in the first half as both team fought for possession in the midfield. Sc Villa finished the first half on a high having created some chances but failing to convert the, However KCCA FC could have finished off the game in the first half had they also made use of their clear cut chances.

    Second half started on a high tempo and Villa were rewarded with a penalty which was converted by Tabu Abdul Malik. KCCA FC who are yet to lose at home this season, netted two more goals from Derrick Nsibambi and Uganda Cranes star player also reigning Azam Uganda premier League player of the year Joseph Ochaya.

    KCCA FC are now on 28 points from 12 matches while Sc Villa on 21 points.

    The Azam Uganda Premier League returns to the fold with match day 12 where six games are lined up  on Tuesday and one the following day.

    There is a lot at stake today and more to play for as two of the country’s leading clubs – Kampala Capital City Authority hosts SC Villa at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

    This fixture will be televised live on Azam TV to millions of football fans across the divide.

    This will also be one of the six games lined up for the day.

    KCCA leads the 16 clubs in the current standings with 25 points from 11 games played as SC Villa has played 10 games and picked 21 points.

    Elsewhere, Onduparaka is at home to Proline in Arua, Soana shall host Sadolin Paints at Kavumba Recreational Stadium and The Saints will entertain Lweza at Bombo Barracks grounds.

    The Red Eagles, Express host Uganda Revenue Authority at their Mutesa II Wankulukuku fotress whilst Kirinya-Jinja S.S will play Bright Stars at Bugembe stadium.

    FUFA President promises support towards beach soccer development in eastern region

    A four day Beach Soccer Coaching Course organised by Uganda Beach soccer Association under the auspices of The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) came to an end at Busoga University over the weekend.

    The Course was handled by CAF Futsal Instructor Ali Mwebe who took participants through different course modules both in theory and practical.

    The course which brought together 62 participants drawn from Eastern Uganda and Busoga University Beach Soccer Committee and coaches from the region, was intended to promote Beach Soccer in Uganda.

    Eng. Magogo said ‘I take this opportunity to thank Busoga University for hosting this course here for the last four days. We are really happy for the support you have accorded towards the development of the game in Uganda’

    ‘I also appeal to Busoga University to incorporate football into their study curriculum program so as it becomes an employment profession for those who qualifies through the laid system’ Eng. Moses Magogo.

    ‘FUFA will continue to support development of beach soccer in Eastern Uganda’ added Magogo.

    FUFA President also pledged to give 10 trucks of sand to be used on standardizing the Busoga Beach soccer pitch that was also officially commissioned on Saturday by Edgar Watson (FUFA CEO) and Eng. Moses Magogo the federation head

    The Busoga University Deputy Vice Chancellor Elder Ndiwala was present to grace the closing ceremony and presented his speech pointing on three key aspects. Security in the country brought by the current government, Education that has seen Uganda progressing positively and the other being Sports the very reason why Busoga University is shining.

    ‘I pledge to support sports in this region mostly by empowering people in whichever way possible. Sports should be taken serious not as just a co-curricular activity on the university program’

    Beach Soccer Manager Deo Mutabazi was thrilled with the route FUFA has taken when it comes to developing beach soccer in Uganda.

    Busoga University became the first University in Uganda  to own a beach soccer pitch.

    Iganga Deputy Mayor Enock Ndazula, Musiwa issa Chairman ERFRA, Fred Barenzi  (Busoga University Sports Tutor ), Chairman for referees in Eastern Region Ajabu Waiswa, Tumwesigye Tonny (Delegate Uganda Beach soccer Association) were also in attendance.
