    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic tested his players against a very good team ahead of Friday’s opening Group E match with Ghana in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia ion Tamale.

    The Uganda Cranes who are returning to the AFCON Finals for the first time since 1978, played an international friendly match with Togo at the Kegue stadium in Lome.

    The Cranes conceded a first half goal but still pushed on gallantly with hope of levelling the score.

    Togo who edged Uganda 1-0 in 2014 at the same stadium during the 2015 AFCON Campaign, emerged winners again with the same score line.

    Uganda Cranes will remain in ome until Thursday morning when they travel to Tamale ahead of Friday match with Ghana.

    Uganda Cranes Head coach Milutin Sredojevic has named the starting XI to face Togo in an international friendly match later today at the Kegue stadium in Lome.

    The Uganda Cranes players held a successful training session under floodlights at the Kegue stadium in Lome on Monday evening in preparation for the international friendly match with Togo.

    The one and a half hour session was meant for acclimatisation and team building purposes after hours of traveling from Kampala via Ethiopia and Ghana before finally reaching Lome.

    Only Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango missed the session since he was still in transit.

    Onyango is expected  in Lome on Tuesday  morning.

    The rest of the players are in camp.

    According to the Leader of Delegation, Darius Mugoye who also watched the training session, all the players looked lively and are ready for the task at hand.

    The pre-match meeting will be held on Tuesday morning (1  p.m Ugandan time) where the match modalities will be agreed upon and referees communicated.

    Uganda Cranes take on Togo at the Kegue Stadium on Tuesday evening (8 p.m Ugandan time).

    The match is being targeted as a preparatory mechanism for the national team ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Group E qualifier on Friday, 7th October 2016 against Ghana in Tamale City.

    Uganda Cranes arrives safely in Togo

    Uganda Cranes team arrived safely in Lome ahead of tomorrow’s international friendly with Togo in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Ghana on Friday in Tamale.

    The Cranes will reside at Modern City Hotel, Tamale while in Ghana when they leave Lome on Thursday morning.

    ‘The players are in good spirits. We are ready for the game on Tuesday. The players will have a training session later today at Kegue stadium that will host the match’ said Crispus Muyinda who travelled much earlier ahead of the team on Saturday.

    Goalkeeper Salim Jamal, Moses Oloya, Faruku Miya, Murshid Juuko, Isaac Isinde and Godfrey Walusimbi linked up with players in Adis Ababa who started the journey from Kampala. Tony Mawejje is also with the team after joining the initial squad at Entebbe Airport.

    Kizito Luwagga and Yunus Sentamu will join the team tonight while Denis Onyango links up with the rest of the team tomorrow morning.

    Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic has named his final 19 that will play Togo in an international friendly on Tuesday 4th October in Lome and Ghana on Friday 7th October (2018 FIFA World Cup Russia) in Tamale.

    The team flies out tonight at midnight aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

    The Squad had two training sessions at Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Saturday and Sunday.

    FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye who will travel with the team as Leader of Delegation watched the morning session on Sunday.

    The team leaves in a buoyant mood after FUFA received UGX 660M from H.E. The President of the Republic of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni towards preparations of the game against Ghana.

    President Museveni made a personal call to FUFA boss Eng. Moses Magogo on Saturday to deliver a message through him to the players ahead of the game.

    The President of the Republic of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is due to honour the 2016 Uganda Cranes football team and other support staff on 9th October 2016 at Luuka District Headquarters.

    ‘We are in receipt of the invitation dated 30th September, 2016 signed off by Chancellor/Secretary, Presidential Awards Committee Businge S.T. Amooti which has  a list of people to be honoured and was addressed to the Executive Director of Federation of Uganda Football Association’ said Ahmed Hussein-FUFA Communications Manager.

    ‘The Committee has requested FUFA to inform and organise the people on the list to be at the venue on that day’ added Hussein.

    KCCA FC defeated Express FC 3-1 on Tuesday evening at the Philip Omondi stadium, Lugogo to stretch their table leadership to 18 points from 7 matches in the opening part of the 2016/17 season.

    Sc Villa Jogoo and Vipers are tied on 12 points occupying 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

    KCCA FC who have lost just one game to Onduparaka FC, scored through Muzamil Mutyaba, Robert Ssentongo and Geoffrey Serunkuma. Saddam Juma pulled one back for the visitors in the first half as KCCA FC had taken a quick fire 2-0 lead.

    Education: Football Coaching Instructors’ course rolls off at FUFA Technical Centre

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FIFA) is once again investing in the capacity building and development of football by hosting a Member Association Instructors Coaching Course this week in Njeru.

    The course is being conducted by  German FIFA Instructor Erick Rutemoller. It started on Monday morning at the FUFA Technical Centre and will close on Friday.

    The Instructors Coaching Course began with a short opening ceremony that was attended by Hamid Juma-Chairman of FUFA Technical Committee, FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson Suubi, FUFA Education Officer Jackson Nyima and Technical Director Asuman Lubowa.

    ‘On behalf of FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, allow me to extend his gratitude and pride about the strides taken to improve quality of football in Uganda at all levels’ said Juma

    ‘It is a serious course and coaches need to have a better understanding of the game. We need coaches who can teach fellow coaches. Coaches need to understand the news trend of the game’ added Juma.

    The course has theory and practical sessions.

    Rutemoller said; ‘The main purpose of this FIFA sanctioned course is to provide Member Associations with technical knowledge through FIFA-run educational courses in the areas of coaching, refereeing, women’s football, futsal, beach soccer and administration and medical’

    2016/17 FUFA Juniors League (U-17) kicks off: Opening win for KCCA Soccer Academy

    2016/17 FUFA Juniors League (U-17):

    Opening Match: KCCA Soccer Academy 4-1 Police Armless Brigade

    Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Soccer Academy defeated Police Armless Brigade 4-1 during the opening game of the 2016/17 FUFA Juniors League (U-17) Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

    The match followed the FIFA Grassroots football festival that was co-ordinated by the FIFA Technical Development Officer and Grassroots football instructor Govinden Thondoo from FIFA’s development offices in Gaborone, Botswana.

    FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa, National Grassroots Coordinator  Willis Muwanguzi and other trained grassroot football instructors graced the festival attended by over 100 children (boys and girls aged between 8 to 14 years).

    In the match proper, KCCA Soccer Academy captain Francis Jurua scored a brace as the other goals came from Reagan Kasumba and Gerald Kawooya.

    Ivan Lukwago scored a beautiful goal for the visitors which was the only consolation.

    The match was handled by the newly trained FUFA Juniors referees.

    FUFA second and third Vice president Darius Mugoye and Dennis Mbidde respectively watched the exciting fixture also attended by the Commissioner from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Daniel Omara Apitta, FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza, KCCA F.C head coach Mike Mutebi, FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa, FUFA Youth Development Officer Bashir Mutyaba, FUFA Competitions Director Ali Mwebe, FUFA Secretariat staff and other football fans.

    The next games will be played on the 2nd October 2016.

    IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE ABOUT THE FUFA Juniors League (U-17):
    1-All players underwent the mandatory MRI tests to establish their true age
    2-FUFA met all the costs of this exercise (MRI tests for the 16 clubs).
    3-All the 16 clubs were given football equipment from FIFA and FUFA-20 soccer boots, 20 bibs, one set of jersey, two pairs of gloves, 20 pairs of shin guards and 15 balls.
    4-Referees officiating the 2016/17 FUFA Juniors League are all below 20 years and underwent the FUFA Young Referees Programme held at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru
    5-All coaches handling the U-17 clubs in the FUFA Juniors League underwent a special FIFA/FUFA Youth coaches course in Njeru.
    6-FUFA will meet the costs of the coaches’ salaries in the FUFA Juniors League 2016/17 season.

    Youth Football: Exciting FIFA Grassroots festival held in Kampala

    The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Grassroots girls and boys football youth programme has continued to take shape in Uganda.

    After the ground breaking ceremony over 12 months ago at the Busega Community primary school in Kampala, the programme was rotated  in the various divisions of Kampala – Kawempe and Rubaga.

    Later, it spread wings across the various parts of the country in Jinja, Mbale and lately Mbarara in Western Uganda (the programme will continue to expand to the other regions of the country).

    Over 100 children enjoyed the Grassroots football festival at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala

    On Friday, 23rd September 2016, the festival returned to Kampala Central at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo as part of the activities to officially mark the start of the second edition of the FUFA Juniors league.

    FIFA Technical Development Officer and Grassroots football instructor Govinden Thondoo from FIFA’s development offices in Gaborone, Botswana, FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa, National Grassroots Coordinator  Willis Muwanguzi and other trained grassroot football instructors graced the festivities.

    Grassroot football is part and parcel of the football development process.

    This is a way we can tap and develop talent.The festival gives opportunity to many kids to realize their dreams

    About 100 children (girls and boys) from schools around Kampala and the surrounding areas attended the festivities.

    In the opening match of the day of the FUFA Juniors’ League, KCCA Soccer Academy defeated Police Armless Brigade 4-1.

    The match was also attended by the FUFA second and third Vice president Darius Mugoye and Dennis Mbidde respectively.

    Commissioner from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Daniel Omara Apitta, KCCA F.C head coach Mike Mutebi, FUFA Secretariat staff also graced the opening day.

     

  • Tekwo nets solitary goal as Express beats Vipers in the Azam Uganda Premier League

    Former URA midfielder Derrick Tekwo netted the all important goal for Express FC who edged Vipers SC 1-0 at Nakivubo stadium on Friday evening.

    Tekwo netted in the first half to send his team to third on the table at 11 points, one point behind leaders KCCA FC who play BUL FC on saturday at Kakindu stadium. Express FC are tied on 11 points with eternal rivals Sc Villa Jogoo but the red eagles have played a game more than Villa who are on 5 outings.

    FIFA President Congratulates FUFA upon Uganda Cranes qualification for AFCON 2017 Finals

    FIFA President Gianni Infantino has sent a congratulatory message to the President of FUFA Eng. Moses Magogo upon Uganda Cranes victory over Comoros that led to the country’s qualification to the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon.

    The top most head in world football wrote the message and signed it off dated 20th September, 2016.

    Cranes edged Comoros 1-0 thanks to a Faruku Miya goal to end Uganda’s drought at the appearance of the continent’s soccer show piece that had eluded the country since 1978.

    Here is the congratulatory message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino;

    ‘I would like to send you my heartfelt Congratulations on your qualification for the Africa Cup Of Nations 2017 after beating Comoro 1-0 on Sunday, 4 September 2016.

    This is the first Uganda National team qualification for the AFCON since 1978 and it is certainly no fluke. It is the result of a long effort by you, the Uganda football community and thanks to the tireless government assistance.

    After saying that, i simply encourage you to continue to develop football in Uganda and send you my assurances that we shall be beside you every step of the way.

    With my best wishes for the future of Ugandan football’

    Infantino’s message follows others from the National Council Of Sports, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Kyabazinga-Busoga Kingdom and former players of the Uganda Cranes.

    Uganda Cranes will know their opponents for the 2017 AFCON Finals in the draw to be conducted on 19th October, 2016.

    FUFA President lauds Uganda Crested Cranes upon good show at 2016 CECAFA Women championship

    The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo has hailed the enormous effort exhibited by the Uganda Crested Cranes players and the members of the technical team at the recently concluded CECAFA Women championship which was held at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

    Eng. Magogo was addressing the players and technical committee members of the team at a luncheon held on Tuesday at Jevine Hotel in Kampala.

    I want to thank all the players and members of the technical committee for your effort at the CECAFA Women championship.

    Finishing among the top four countries was good enough given the fact that we were playing countries already established.

    He also singled out the role of the Women Elite League whose main purpose was intended to inspire hundreds of girls with the intention of joining the women football bandwagon.

    The Women Elite League was purposely started to increase visibility and involvement of women in football in the country. Add to the Uganda Crested Cranes, you ought to be good ambassadors

    Uganda Crested Cranes head coach, Majidah Nantanda appreciated the efforts of the federation to help the game of women football grow through leaps and bounds.

    I am personally so happy for the efforts of FUFA towards the growth of women football. Secondly, i was equally excited witnessing a pool of players compete positively on the team. Seeing the players  fight for the team was a great gesture.

    FUFA Executive Committee member, Agnes Mugena  thanked the technical team, media, players and FUFA for the opportunity given to the female players at the CECAFA Women championship.

    I am grateful to FUFA, the media, players for everyone’s effort in development women football. We need more exposure as clubs and the national team itself for better performance

    Team captain, Christine Wanyana called for the continued women footballers’ empowerment, more rewards towards the outstanding players and continued participation of the female footballers in other aspects of football affairs – management, coaching and refereeing.

    Each of the players and members of the technical team received a financial package as per the national team’s well stipulated proportions.

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has submitted 29 names of referees to Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for consideration of the FIFA Badge for the year 2017.

    There are seven center referees, eight men assistant referees, four women center referees, six women assistant referees and four beach soccer referees.

    Men – Referees:

    Brian Miiro Nsubuga, Dennis Batte, Alex Muhabi, Mashood Ssali, Ali Chelangat Sabilla, Ali Bakisula, William Oloya

    Men – Assistant Referees:

    Uganda Cranes team to face Togo and Ghana in the international build up and FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier respectively has been released by the head coach, Milutin Sredojevic on Wednesday, 21st September 2016.

    This was during the weekly press conference at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    Micho was flanked by the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, National Teams’ Officer Patrick Ntege and the FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    The coach congratulated the players and FUFA upon the historic qualification to the AFCON 2017 finals in Gabon.

    He quickly called immediate preparations for rest of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that start with the Ghana away match.

    I thank all stake holders who helped us achieve.

    We need to the halt the celebrations and start preparations for the Togo and Ghana away games.

    The Uganda Cranes will play Togo on 4th October 2016 in the international friendly match before the 2018 FIFA World Cup group E qualifier against Ghana that will be played in Tamale City.

    The locally based players will start training on 1st October 2016 after the Azam Uganda Premier league matches on 30th September 2016.

    Many of the foreign players will fly directly to Lome.

    CECAFA Women Championship: Tanzania triumphs, Uganda finish fourth

    2016 CECAFA Women championship:

    Final: Kenya 1-2 Tanzania

    3rd Place play-off: Ethiopia 4-1 Uganda

    Tanzania won the 2016 CECAFA Women championship after overcoming Kenya 2-1  in a very thrilling finale watched by the biggest crowd at the ten day championship.

    Omari Mwanahamisi netted a brace in the final. Kenya had their consolation through Christine Nafula.

    In the third place play off, Ethiopia defeated Uganda 4-1 to finish third overall.

    Hasifa Nassuna gave Uganda the lead in the fourth minute before the Ethiopians rallied to score four goals through Erhima Zeregaw (three goals) and Losa Abera.

    Uganda Crested Cranes’ Hasifa Nassuna finished as top scorer with six goals.

    Kenya Football Federation (KFF) president Nick Mwendwa was among the hundreds of fans in the stands of the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

    CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye was joined by other dignitaries from the region.

    The tournament chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Rogers Byamukama lauded the spirit of CECAFA, FUFA, the multitudes of fans who attended all the matches, other members of the Local Organizing Committee and the media towards the successful efforts of organizing the event.
