FUFA President leads Cranes players to Mosque for prayers in Wandegeya, fans get excited

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and Uganda Cranes players were part of the Friday prayers held in two different mosques-at Ahmadhiya and Wandegeya as the Nation sought divine intervention ahead of the crucial 2017 AFCON qualifier on Sunday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The players Yunus Sentamu, Farouk Miya, Ismail Watenga, Salim Jamal and Idris Lubega had their prayers at Ahmadhiya Mosque. They were joined by the Uganda Cranes bus driver Ahmed Kabali and kits manager Saidi Lugolobi.

The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein, former FIFA referee Yusuf Awuye and FUFA staff Meddie Matovu observed their prayers at Wandegeya Mosque.

The day’s sermons were conducted by Sheikh Fauzi Kiiza Kalule at Wandegeya Mosque.’We are happy to receive here. We believe that Allah’s might will guide the team on Sunday against Comoros’ said Sheikh Fauzi.

‘We are overwhelmed by the love and passion of fans shown to us here. The players want to make history come Sunday. Let us give them the support they need.’ said FUFA President.

‘We know the entire country is praying for the team to get the best results. We have prepared the team to the best of our ability and within our means’ added FUFA President who told the congregation that the players have been promised 35M shillings each if they beat Comoros on Sunday.

Farouk Miya who spoke on behalf of the players promised the best on Sunday.

‘We need your support on Sunday. With Allah, everything is possible’ said the soft spoken player who plies his trade in Belgium with Standard Liege.

Miya and the rest of the players got the fans excited as they took photos together.

FUFA President offered 10 Uganda Cranes replica jerseys, Invitation cards to the religious leaders and 50 Ordinary tickets to the fans at Wandegeya Mosque.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has promised each of the Uganda Cranes players and members of the technical bench a cash reward of $ 10,000 if qualification to the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon is sealed this Sunday against Comoros at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

At the same time, all the outstanding arrears owed to players and officials in this current campaign have been settled.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo confirmed the development at a dinner organized for the players and technical committee members held at Serene Suites, Mutundwe on Thursday evening.

‘You have been gallant excellent throughout the campaign. Now, we are remaining with only match. Let us use the teamwork and commitment to ensure qualification. We have settled all the outstanding arrears throughout this campaign and an additional $ 10,000 has been promised to each of the players and members of the technical team if we qualify to Gabon 2017’ Eng. Moses Magogo said in his speech.

The FUFA President in a special way thanked the players for the journey moved so far. He lauded the national team sponsors and other partners, media, Government and everybody whose contribution to the success of the team can never go unnoticed.

Chief of Defence Forces of the UPDF, General Edward Katumba Wamala was the chief guest.

General Katumba thanked the players for effort to reach thus far and encouraged them to attack the opponent without any fear or favour.

Uganda Cranes main sponsors Airtel Uganda, joined by the other partners Nile Special and National Insurance Corporation (NIC) organized this dinner that also corresponded with head coach Milutin Sredejovic’s 46th Birthday.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the arrival of Comoros national football team.

Chairman FUFA International Match Organizing Committee, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel confirmed the opponents’ arrival programme to the media on Wednesday during the FUFA weekly press conference at Mengo in Kampala.

The first batch of Comoros team comes on Thursday at 1 p.m. The second batch will come on Friday at 1 p.m.

Dr Ogwel assured the football fans of maximum security to ensure smooth transition of all the day’s activities with safety as top priority.

The international build up match between Uganda Cranes and Kenya Harambee Stars at Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Tuesday has ended goal-less on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a game of limited goal scoring opportunities that either sides managed to create.

Uganda Cranes captain, Geofrey Massa now playing for newly promoted South African premier league side Baroka had an attempt from a free-kick in the first half missing target by inches.

Earlier, roving left back Godfrey Walusimbi laid a great ball across of goal that defender Brian Mandela reacted to faster than Yunus Sentamu for a corner.

Kenya themselves had two one-against one incidents through Eric Johanna later in the second half with Aucho Khalid clearing off the line on one attempt after goalie Salim Jamal Magoola had down well to close on the center forward.

The game according to the head coach, Milutin Sredejovic gives the technical team a clear picture of how the current players stand at the moment in terms of mental, physical and tactical preparation.

“The friendly match with our neighbours Kenya was very good and it gives us what we need on work on in the remaining four training sessions in preparation for the most important game against Comoros. I call upon the fans to remain positive and the players to be more focused. We shall qualify for AFCON 2017 finals” Micho told the media at the post match press conference held at the Namboole board room shortly after the game.

His Kenyan counterpart, Stanley Okumbi wished Uganda Cranes the best against Comoros.

“We are brothers and i believe Uganda Cranes will qualify to make the East African region proud” Okumbi added.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Tonny Mawejje who was the captain in the second half hailed his teammates for the performance but called for more efforts especially in the creating and scoring departments.

Mawejje too attended the post match press conference;

When you are to win a football match, you have to score and defend well too. First of all, i thank the presence of this match. We shall polish our mistakes in the remaining days to the match against Comoros.

Meanwhile, the team resumes training sessions with a recovery session on Wednesday at Namboole stadium (4 p.m).

Rested first choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango is expected to start light training too on Wednesday.

The FUFA President together with Honorary President Lawrence Mulindwa watched the Monday evening training at Islamic University In Uganda Female Campus in Kabojja.

The FUFA President couldn’t hide his excitement for spirit exhibited by the Honorary President while paying a courtesy to the team.

“This mission was started ten years ago while Lawrence Mulindwa was the president” Said Eng. Magogo.

Later the Honorary President Lawrence Mulindwa was granted an opportunity to speak to the players and thanked the current federation for the wonderful efforts towards this campaign .

“It is not easy to assemble and prepare a team therefore I thank the federation for the wonderful job done.” Said Mulindwa.

He also asked the players to utilize this opportunity because qualifying for AFCON means a lot to them and Uganda at large.

Refereeing: FIFA Member Association Youth Referees course climaxes

The future of football in Uganda and the entire world is bright.

Truely bright that the world’s parent body, Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) is day and night planning for fresh strategies to keep the game much alive.

From administration to technical departments, FIFA has always planned afresh.

In Uganda, a five-day FIFA MA Youth Referees Course organized by Federation of international Football Associations (FIFA) in conjunction with Federation of Uganda football Associations (FUFA) ended successfully on Friday at FUFA Technical center in Njeru, Jinja.

The course started on 25th and climaxed today 29^th of August. 2016. FIFA Referees’ local Instructors Sam Egesa and Ali Tomusange from Uganda were the Course instructors.

Egesa attested to www.fufa.co.ug that;

This was the topmost Course for youthful Referees. The same instructions and guidelines taught to Referees Officiating in the FIFA World Cup or CAF African Cup of nations were taught to 31 Committed Ugandan youth Referees.

We want the participants to test their knowledge as we try to deliver the latest guidelines and teaching materials from FIFA.

We were not here to teach but share our knowledge which we gained both from FIFA and the FUFA.

We stressed on the off-side rule, handball situations and severity of incidents along with the Referee’s technique and management of the game.

I am very much overwhelmed with the response of the participants. They were active and disciplined all throughout and their commitment was seen to be believed.

The enthusiasm in their eyes said about it all. Usually you don’t get such Courses through any other source as only a FIFA Instructor can conduct such a Course.

He added;

FIFA usually organizes one Course per Member Association in one Calendar Year. But we consider Uganda to be a big nation when it comes to capacity building and this was prioritized by FUFA president in his manifesto. Hence, there have been many FIFA Courses in Uganda in the recent past

Chief Guest Chris Kalibala, also the chairman FUFA referees’ committee at Fufa on behalf of FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo thanked Fifa’s Egesa and Tomusange for their support and “down to Earth attitude.”

I need to thank them for going all out to educate our young Referees.

They are the future of our game in uganda and we want them to start with our junior football leagues at respective levels

This will help these referees mature faster and reach their goal of supervising matches at the highest level possible,” he pronounced.

The Course comprised of both theory and practical sessions. The 31 participants also had to appear in fitness tests.

Mr Tomusange conducted the practical sessions and implemented the FIFA 11 plus Programme which would help the Referees stay away from injuries.

The participants were demonstrated all the latest exercises for injury prevention. We even had match situations – for example, on Saturday, we enacted penalty area incidents. It was all about integrated training.”

Kalibala also had a special word of praise the manner FIFA and FUFA organised the Course. “Over the last eight months this year we have had upto over 20 Courses and I need to mention that this was the first time I saw young Referees being looked after at by Fufa and Fifa in Uganda. I need to congratulate Fufa for that. Egesa and his colleague Tomusange have been of immense help,” he concluded.

2016 CECAFA Women Football championship launched in Uganda, Kampala

2016 CECAFA Women Championship: 11th – 20th September (All Matches at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru)

GROUP A: Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Zanzibar

GROUP B: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda

The long awaited Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) women football championship returns after over a period of 30 years without being played.

The tournament has been launched at the home of football in Uganda, FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala during a well attended press conference on Monday.

CECAFA Seceretary General, Nicholas Musonye graced the launched together with the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, the tournament Local Organizing Committee chairman Rogers Byamukama and other members of the LOC.

Addressing the media, the FUFA President expressed the gratitude for the federation to host the tournament of CECAFA’s magnitude;

We are excited to hosting the Championship. This is an extended programme to the strategy we took to develop women football in the country and across the region.

This tournament will also give the girls more playing time internationally.

Eng. Magogo officially announced the full members of the Local Organizing Committee.

The seven man committee has Rogers Byamukama, the chairperson.

Others are Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, Agnes Mugena, Chris Kalibala,Samuel Mpiima, Efrance Nanjego and Ahmed Hussein.

The tournament gets underway on the 11th September 2016 with Burundi taking on Zanzibar at 2 p.m.

Hosts Uganda will play Kenya in the next fixture on match day one.

Byamukama, also a FUFA Executive committee member asserted that there are seven countries that have duly confirmed to take part in the tournament.

CECAFA Secretary General, Musonye appreciated FUFA for taking the bold decision to host the women tournament at a time no other country was willing to take up the opportunity.

I thank Uganda for taking the initiative and being bold enough to bring CECAFA women’s tournament here in Kampala. This is the golden opportunity to revamp women’s football in the CECAFA region.

All the matches will be played at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru with two games running per day.

The last CECAFA women football championship was held in Zanzibar and won by the hosts in 1986.

Uganda Cranes triumph in closed door test and training match against KCCA

The Uganda Cranes held a closed door trial match against the reigning Azam Uganda Premier league champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on Sunday at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Young striker Muhammed Shaban who plays at Onduparaka football club scored the lone strike on the day.

Head coach, Milutin Sredejevoic used two teams where each featured for a half apiece.

The team resumes training on Monday evening at Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) Kabojja Girls Campus starting at 5 p.m.

A couple of more players are expected to join the team on Monday.

Uganda Cranes players & officials worship, dedicate up coming fixtures to the Almighty Lord

The Uganda national football team, Uganda Cranes dedicated the Sunday of 28th August 2016 to the Lord Almighty with players and FUFA officials praying for special blessings from the different churches within and around Kampala.

Several Cranes players and officials were part of the Sunday worshipers at St Luke Seeta Church of Uganda and House of Prayer Ministries.

The Seeta delegation was led by FUFA executive member Sam Mpiima and Team Manager Chris Muyinda while the House of Prayer Ministries delegation was led by National Teams’ Coordinator Patrick Ntege .

PRESS CONFERENCE: Important communication on 2016 CECAFA Women football championship

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) will host a joint press conference on Monday 29th August, 2016.

Day two of Uganda Cranes non residential training continued on Friday afternoon at the Kampala International School, Uganda (KISU) play ground in Bukoto, Kampala.

This followed Thursday’s training which also had a gym session and later ball work at KISU.

The two Onduparaka football club players Muhammed Shaban and Rashid Toha joined the rest of the players who had attended day one.

“Training progressed well and hope day three on Saturday afternoon is much better” Hamza Nsereko, the team’s media officer told www.fufa.co.ug.

Uganda Cranes will play an international match against Kenya this coming Tuesday at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (kick off has been confirmed for 4 p.m).

Uganda Cranes commence with non residential training drills

The Uganda Cranes has on Thursday officially started training ahead of the Kenya and Comoros games.

Fourteen of the locally based players summoned turned up apart from the Onduparaka duo (Muhammed Shaban and Rashid Toha).

They were joined by eight guest players to help assist in raising the numbers for the planned drills.

The team started with an hour of aerobics session at the Paradise Fitness Planet gym located at Accacia Mall in Kamwokya.

Then, they shifted base to the Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) play ground found in Bukoto for another one and a half hour session of ball work.

Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin Sredejovic joined by his entire technical crew of Moses Basena (assistant coach), Fred Kajoba (goalkeeping coach), Chrispus Muyinda (team manager) and the team doctor, Ronald Kisolo closely supervised the training.

“The start has been great. On Thursday we had a gym session and ball work part with guest players helping out to raise the numbers and necessitate good training. We expect more players to come on Friday” Micho told www.fufa.co.ug.

The non residential training continues on Friday evening with a session at KISU starting at 4 p.m.

FUFA spreads wings in refereeing as teenagers enroll for FIFA course

The FIFA Youth Special Referees Course got underway at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Thursday morning.

The 5-day Special Referees course is conducted by FUFA Referees’ Manager Samuel Egesa who is both a CAF and FIFA Instructor.

His appointment for the course was made by FIFA. The certification of the young referees will also be done by the world soccer governing body.

Refereeing is a key area that has been given a lot of support by the current administration of FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo.

While opening the course, FUFA Technical Director Asumani Lubowa said that ‘FUFA is committed to providing football referees, from beginners to most advanced level, with up-to-date theoretical, physical and practical knowledge for referees from various parts of Uganda’

He added –‘We are asking regional football associations to ensure that these youthful referees develop their skill to full potential’.

‘The Course will change the fortune of many of these participants here and this is a great opportunity for all of you to take advantage’ stressed Lubowa

Catch them young: FUFA has started a course for teenagers to enroll for refereeing.

‘There is so much happening in modern football and this game where video analysis and practical lessons are involved, helps to get an insight of the game’ further said Lubowa

‘The main purpose of FIFA course is to provide Member Associations with technical knowledge through FIFA-run educational courses in the areas of refereeing, women’s football, coaching, Futsal, beach soccer and administrative and medical matters’ said Egesa.

‘These courses focus not just on the technical aspects of the game, but also on its social values, as youngsters in particular should regard football as a way of life’ added Egesa.

‘The principle behind FIFA’s educational initiatives involves the teachers and participants passing on and exchanging know-how, experiences and information, which in turn finds its way back to the associations, instructors and other sectors of society such as the private sector, government bodies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)’

‘FIFA’s programme is tailor-made to meet the member associations’ requirements for education and courses and am grateful we are having our own for the first time’ added Egesa.

Course modules like Laws of the Game, The players’ equipment, Ball in, Ball Out, The throw in, The Corner kick, Practical sessions, The start and Re-start of play among other course units will be handled in the five days .

Uganda Cranes Vs. Comoros: FUFA President appreciates positive energy, rallies for continued support

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President Eng. Moses Magogo has appreciated all the positive energies being generated in the build up to the Uganda Cranes versus Comoros game.

In the same vein, he has called upon for continued support from all spheres ahead of the international build up with Kenya next Tuesday and that AFCON 2017 Group D qualifier against Comoros on 4^th September 2016.
