    Azam Uganda Premier League 2015/16:

    Friday, 22nd April 2016 Results:

    • SC Victoria University 0-3 Bright Stars
    • Maroons 1-2 Express
    • Police 1-0 Simba

    Three Azam Uganda Premier league fixtures were played on Friday, 22nd April 2016.

    There were away victories for Bright Stars and Express over Sports Club Victoria University and Maroons respectively.

    Anthony Bongole, Bruhan Matovu and Joshua Kawadwa scored at Namboole for the visitors against Victoria University in a 3-0 triumph.

    Bright Stars still played without their head coach and Uganda Cranes goalkeeping tactician, Fred Kajoba who is recovering from ill health.

    Express condemned Maroons to their 16th loss of the season with a 2-1 victory.

    Ibrahim Kayiwa gave the Red Eagles as early lead in the 5th minute.

    Moments later, Patrick Kaddu who is enjoying the form of his life replied for the Prisons’ run side.

    Kaddu converted a penalty following Richard Kizito’s handball in the forbidden area.

    Vincent Walugembe Kayizzi took the matters in his own hands to restore parity for the visitors, two minutes after the game restart.

    The victory drives Express to the third place on 43 points, same as Vipers although the former have a one goal advantage.

    In the battle of the forces, Peter ‘Crouch’ Ssenyonjo scored for Police in the 1-0 slim victory against Simba at Kavumba recreational stadium.

    KCCA still leads the 16 teams in the league with 51 points.

    The next league matches shall be played on Tuesday, 26th April 2016.

    The Uganda National Under 20 team successfully conducted their last training session ahead of the Preliminary round return leg with Rwanda in CAF U-20 Qualifiers .

    The one and half hours session under the watchful eyes of all the four coaches, Kefa Kisala (Head coach) and his assistants, Daniel Kiwanuka (goalkeeping coach), Arthur Kyesmira and Richard Wasswa was intended to improve attacking and defensive strategies.

    The team captain, Halid Lwalirwa who plays for Vipers SC expressed readiness ahead of the match.

    In a bid to gear up preparations for the Africa U-20 Qualifiers ,the Uganda U-20 football team ‘Hippos’ has camped at Mandela Sports Hotel for the remaining two days .

    An eighteen player squad was named  by the head coach Kefa Kisala to prepare for the Rwandese U-20 side ‘Junior Wasps’ in the must win return leg  encounter at Mandela National Stadium in Nambole on Saturday 23rd April 2016 .

    Hippos managed a one all draw from the Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo .The winner will face Egypt at the next stage of the qualifiers.

    Sports Club Villa Jogoo have won a third straight home victory at home on the continent after Wednesday’s slim 1-0 over Morocco club, FUS Rabat at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    Striker Umar Kasumba scored a penalty in the 56th minute following a foul on midfielder Denis Kamanzi had been brought down in the penalty area.

    The North African side however qualifies to the next stage after a 7-1 aggregate victory.

    During the first leg played in Morocco; FUS Rabat won 7-0 with the goals scored by Mourad Batna, As Mandaw, Abdessalam Benjelloun, Mehdi Ei Bassel, Maroune Saadane, Youssef El Gnaoui and Mohamed Fouzair.

    The Uganda U-20 football team ‘Hippos’ had a friendly assessment match with Royal Giant SS Mityana which they won on 8 -0 at the KCCA Stadium, Lugogo.

    Six goals came in the first half of the game scored  Pius Wanji with a brace, Zaake Luboyera, Muhammad Shaban and Allan Okello while the other three came in the second half by Joseph Janjali, Alfred Leku  and Stephen Mukwara.

    The trial match was the last non residential training before the team enters residential camp on Thursday at Mandela Sports Hotel, Namboole.

    Team coach Kefa Kisala expressed his confidence in the team relating to the superb display from the boys in their trial match.

    Monday Result: Proline 2-2 Kirinya/Jinja S.S (Rwenzori Group)

    Proline and Kirinya/Jinja S.S played to a 2 all draw at Nakivubo stadium on Monday.

    James Otim headed the visitors ahead in the 12th minute with a diving effort after Allan Drajuwa crossed from the right. Edrisa Lubega replied in the same fashion 7 minutes later with Simon Mbaziira providing the assist.

    The home side then took the lead with another headed attempt from Fahad Bayo in the 29th minute.

    With five minutes to the end, Jinja S.S equalized with a well taken penalty from Drajuwa after Ali Gift had handled in the penalty area.

    The game was handled by Fred Byamukama (center referee), Bob Omollo and Ali Mpanga were the first and second assistant referees respectively as Ronnie Kalema was the referees’ assessor and commissioner at the same time.

    The Big league returns on Tuesday with Wandegeya visiting Masavu in Entebbe.

    Uganda National Under 20 football team, the Hippos on Sunday conducted their second non -residential training on Sunday morning at Nakivubo stadium.

    More players joined the training from on top of those who attended training on the first day at Namboole on Saturday.

    The team will resume training on Monday at Nakivubo starting 8 am.
    Uganda Hippos requires an outright victory or at worst a draw to progress to the next stage of the qualifiers after earning a hard fought one all draw in the first leg played at Nyamirambo stadium in Kigali.
    Edrisa Lubega scored for Uganda after Blaise Itangishaka had put the Rwandan Juniors ahead.

    The Uganda U-20 national side the Hippos resumed training on Saturday 16th April at Mandela National Stadium ahead of their return leg against the Junior Wasps of Rwanda in the Africa U-20 qualifiers.

    Twelve players reported for training amidst the heavy morning down power on Saturday morning under the guidance of Coach Kefa Kisala and Arthur Kyesimira in a two hours training

    The main emphasis in the training session was ball protection, control and distribution.

    Sports Club Villa returned to winning ways domestically after a long lull out of action in the Azam Uganda Premier league.

    SC Villa beat SC Victoria University 4-0 at Nakivubo Stadium.

    Umar Kasumba scored two goals with the others coming from Martin Kizza and an own goal from Victoria University.

    At the Buikwe Stadium, Vipers fell to a late goal at home to visiting BUL F.C.

    Yunus Sibira scored in the added minutes to give BUL the victory.

    Simba defeated Bright Stars 2-0 at the Bombo military stadium.

    The Azam Uganda Premier League returns on Saturday with four fixtures.

    Second Division (FUFA Big League): Action resumes Thursday

    The national second division league, the FUFA Big league had one game played on Wednesday with Masavu defeating Wakiso United in the continuation of the aborted match.

    The game was played at Wakiso district headquarters play ground for only 19 minutes.

    After the 19 minutes, no side had seen the back of the net but before the replay, the match was 2-1 in favour of Masavu F.C.

    FUFA-UEFA relations paying off as Edgar, Tumusiime head to Slovenia for Grassroots football programme

    The FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson and seasoned coach at University level Vincent Tumusiime popularly known as ‘Titi Box to Box’ are in Slovenia for a five day programme in relation to grassroots football all organised by Europe’s soccer governing body UEFA.

    With Uganda FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo forging perfect relations with various football bodies around the globe, the sky will be the limit.

    Watson a member of the CAF Technical Study group during the 2016 CHAN Finals in Rwanda landed the opportunity directly from the continental soccer governing who wanted him to extend his vast experience at the grassroots level.

    The other slot that saw a Ugandan take it up, was through efforts and good working relations developed between FUFA and UEFA where the current FIFA President Gianni Infantino was General Secretary.

    Only three African countries Sao Tome and Principe, Uganda and Senegal were invited plus a special slot to CAF which opportunity was given to Watson.

    ‘Our relationship with UEFA is bearing fruits now. We have a lot lined up for Ugandan football as the sport will benefit in various ways through technical and development at various levels’ said FUFA Presidnet Eng. Moses Magogo.

    In the bid to raise awareness about the deadly cancer scourge in the country, the Uganda Football Players’ Association (UFPA) has partnered with the Uganda Cancer Institute.

    In a joint press conference on Wednesday at FUFA House, Paul Mutakabala, the CEO of the Association told the media, the initiative was thought about after the untimely death of Uganda Cranes’ goalkeeper, Abel Dhaira.

    Dhaira succumbed to abdominal cancer on 27th March 2016 in Iceland where he had been playing professional football with IBV.

    “We have entered an arrangement with the Uganda Cancer Institute. There is a one day tournament arranged on the 16th April 2016 at Nakivubo stadium” Mutakabala said.

    Christine Namulindwa, the Public Relations Officer of the Uganda Cancer Institute represented the institution.

    “We shall have cancer screening and cancer awareness. We shall conduct a cancer awareness workshop. We expect all active football and retired footballers to turn up. The Screening will be for the players and supporters” she noted.

    There will be a main match between the Ex-footballers and the Uganda Cancer Institute.

    Before the main match, several teams including the media will curtain raise meanwhile the screening and cancer education take place.

    The Uganda Cup 2015/16 Quarter finals draws were held at FUFA House, Mengo on Wednesday.

    The draws were conducted during the weekly press conference supervised by the FUFA Competitions Director, Ali Mwebe.

    The date ear marked for the first matches of the quarter finals is 22nd and 24th April 2016.

    Kampala Capital City Authority football club returns to Mwererwe to play Bright Stars less than two weeks after their hard fought 2-1 victory in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    Lweza F.C will take on Entebbe road nemesis, Entebbe F.C at Wankulukuku.

    Mwebe also communicated the date for Airtel Kitara versus Vipers SC round of 16 match as the 19th April 2016 at Boma play ground in Hoima.

    SC Villa – Onduparaka round of 32 will be played after the Jogoos’ continental engagements.

    Vipers Sc CEO Peter Lwanga picked the Entebbe road derby to be played between Lweza FC and Entebbe FC.

    The winner from SC Villa – Onduparaka will host Busia Fisheries at the round of 16 stage with the subsequent victor booking a berth against Soana at the quarter finals.

    SC Villa Jogoo is the defending champion of the tournament.

    Second Leg: SC Villa Jogoo (Uganda) Vs FUS RABAT (Morocco) – Wednesday, 20th April 2016 – Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    Morocco Premier league side, FUS Rabat has confirmed their date of arrival in Uganda for the return leg of the CAF Confederation cup as Saturday, 16th April 2016.

    FUS Rabat’s date of arrival was confirmed by the FUFA Communications manager, Ahmed Hussein during the weekly press conference on Wednesday at Mengo in Kampala.

    “FUS Rabat arrive on Saturday, 16th April 2016 with a 32 man contingent. Our representatives, SC Villa Jogoo need all our support” said FUFA Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein

    SC Villa lost 7-0 in the first leg to  FUS Rabat last Friday.

    This was the second round first leg match whose winner on aggregate will advance to the group stages.

    The return leg shall be played at Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Wednesday, 20th April 2016.

    2nd FUFA Corporate Tournament preparations gear up

    2016 FUFA Corporate Tournament:

    7th May 2016 – At FUFA Technical Center, Njeru

    The second edition of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Corporate tournament has been confirmed for 7th May 2016 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

    The tournament has been launched on Wednesday, 13th April 2016 during the FUFA Weekly press conference in Mengo, Kampala.

    While addressing the journalists at the press briefing, Esther Musoke, the FUFA Marketing Director stressed the significance of the tournament in line with the FUFA external relations.

    “Key of the main objectives is to give FUFA an avenue of interaction with prospective sponsors and partners, have fun and provide the platform to network and socialize” Musoke noted.

    Musoke also added the FUFA Corporate tournament will further help to strengthen the FUFA brand.

    The tournament will take place on 7th May 2016 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

    Sixteen companies are being targeted for this year’s event. So far, 10 teams have registered.

    These include; Airtel Uganda Limited (Uganda Cranes official sponsors), Nile Breweries Limited (another FUFA partner), Uganda Cranes’ official insurer, National Insurance Corporation (NIC), National Water and Sewerage Corporation (winners of the inaugural edition), FUFA Executive XI, FUFA XI, SSL logistics Limited among others.

    Musoke urged more companies to register ahead of the tournament kick off with Ug.shs 1.5M registration fee.
