The build-up to Uganda’s first home game in a space of one year is full of anxiety and eagerness as fans will want to throng Mandela National Stadium on Sunday as the Cranes take on the Malawi Flames.
It will be exactly one year on Sunday since the Cranes last played at home and this is the reason behind the campaign “366 Back to Namboole with the Cranes”
In a bid to have fans come in big numbers of Sunday, FUFA and Cranes’ main sponsors Airtel has come up with an arrangement for fans to purchase matchday tickets online (Airtel Money).
While addressing the media on Wednesday, Rogers Byamukama, the chairman marketing, and communication at FUFA revealed that the tickets purchased on Airtel Money will come at a discounted price of Ush. 15,000.
‘FUFA together with Uganda Cranes’ main sponsors Airtel are fully aware that there are fans who always find it hard to go to ticket selling outlets but they can use mobile money means to buy the tickets. The beauty of this arrangement is the tickets bought online come at a discounted fee of fifteen thousand shillings.’ He said.

How to buy a ticket via Airtel Money?
Airtel customers can purchase match day tickets by dialing *185*4#
A message confirming the purchase of ticket(s) will be sent to the customer and it is that message that will be required at the stadium.
Mr. Byamukama explained that there will be a designated point adjacent to the stadium main gate where the verification process will be made and upon confirmation, the fans will be given tickets to access the stadium.
Uganda is in group B alongside Malawi, South Sudan, and Burkina Faso.

Uganda Cranes qualification campaign for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations starts with an away game against Burkina Faso on Wednesday, 13th November 2019 in Ouagadougou and four days later, the team will be back in action at home against Malawi.
Therefore, the preparations for Sunday’s clash against Mandela National Stadium are in high gear and efforts to have a successful game have been beefed up.
FUFA on Wednesday morning gave updates as regards tickets, security and the state of Mandela National stadium in a press briefing held the Federation headquarters.
Chairman, International Matches Organizing Committee (IMOC) Issa Magoola revealed that the Malawi Flames will arrive on Friday afternoon.
“The Malawi national team will jet into the country on Friday afternoon and we shall receive them at the airport. The match officials are coming from Sudan and will reach here on Friday evening.”

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Onyango assured the public that security will be guaranteed before, during and after the game.
“Uganda Police Force together with our sister security agencies would like to give assurance to all football lovers that security will be guaranteed on Sunday. We shall deploy both covert and overt officers in and around the stadium. Our duty role is to keep law and order and that is what we shall do that day. We will not give room to wrongdoers and warn them not to come to Namboole on Sunday.”

Onyango also cautioned the public to desist making political attachments to social events like football games.
“We have not anticipated any political threat and we do not expect any sort of political attachments to this game. It is against CAF and FIFA rules to involve political sentiments to football and thus we call upon the fans that will come to Namboole to desist from such.”
Mr. Rogers Byamukama, the chairman FUFA marketing and communication revealed that the tickets will have gone on sale and the selling points have been released.
“We first released the early bird tickets which have been on the market up to Tuesday. Another bunch that includes ordinary tickets (Ush 20,000), VIP tickets (50,000) and VVIP tickets (120,000) have been released today and the selling points.”

He also indicated that the arrangement to have students watch the game has been going on and several schools have come on board.
“As FUFA, we took a decision to enable students to watch the national team and several schools have embraced the move. The students’ tickets will come at a cost of Ush 10,000 but only for schools that have made prior arrangements. “
Mandela National Stadium Sports and Recreation Officer, Vivian Tendo gave an update about the state of the stadium indicating it’s in the right conditions to host the game on Sunday.
“We made a deliberate move to put a hold on activities at the stadium in the last two weeks because the playing turf had lost shape. I assure the public that the pitch is now in proper condition to host the game on Sunday.

With the 2019 Airtel FUFA Awards ceremony drawing closer, the build-up to the coveted ceremony has continued to bring about anxiety.
On Monday, more nominations in other categories have been revealed to add to the three categories (Airtel FUFA Male and Female nominees) and Team Fans of the year that were released during the launch last month at Serena Hotel.
Coach of the year (Men’s Football Competitions)
The Airtel FUFA Coach of the of the year nominees in the men’s competitions includes Mike Hillary Mutebi (KCCA FC), Abdallah Mubiru (Police FC) and Shafik Bisaso (Proline FC).

Mutebi who has won the accolade for the last three years, helped KCCA FC to lift the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, CECAFA Kagame Cup in Rwanda and the FUFA Super Cup.

Mubiru guided Uganda Cranes to qualify for the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) while Bisaso helped Proline FC to win the StarTimes FUFA Big League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup. He also helped his team beat Malawian side Masters Security on their maiden continual bow.

Women football coach of the year
For the first time, the coaches in Women’s football will have their own category and the nominees include Ayub Khalifa, Oliver Mbekeka, and Fred Ndaula.

Ayub helped Kawempe Muslim Ladies to reach the FUFA Women Elite League playoffs and was also in charge of the Uganda U17 Girls’ national team that won the maiden COSAFA U17 Championship. He also won several other trophies in FUFA sanctioned tournaments with his school.
Mbekeka led Lady Doves to two finals (FUFA Women Elite League and FUFA Women’s Cup) while Ndaula helped Makerere University to clinch the FUFA Women’s Cup, their first major title in history.
FUFA Member Association Award
Another category introduces this year is the Airtel FUFA Member Associations’ award that is aimed at rewarding excelling FUFA Members. In total, FUFA is composed of 34 members following the admission of the Futsal Association of Uganda.
The nominees include; KCCA FC, Buganda Region Football Association (BRFA) and Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA).

In beach soccer, St. Lawrence duo of Ronald Mutebi and Suleiman Ochero will contend for the gong alongside Herbert Luboyera of Mutoola Beach Soccer Club/

Mutebi was named the best goalkeeper in the 2018/19 league while Ochero finished as the top scorer with 29 goals in 19 games and was named the Most Valuable Player.

In the Airtel FUFA Upcoming talent category, Sadat Anaku who won the accolade last year is nominated alongside Garvin Kizito Mugweri and Davis Sekajja.

Male and Female player of the year
The nominees in the Male and Female categories were already released but the shortlists will be trimmed and the names will be confirmed on Wednesday.
There are 16 nominees vying for the Male best footballer of the year accolade and 12 female footballers that were generated by the head coaches as well as captains of the Star Times Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Women Elite League and FUFA Women Super League teams respectively.

Coaches of the FUFA Women Elite League and FUFA Women Super League nominated their top 5 candidates for the FUFA Female player of the year 2019.
There was a second round of voting by the coaches and captains for the Male player of the year and Female Player of the Year to get the top 5 and the list will be released on Wednesday.
Public voting will contribute 25% and will get underway after the release of the top 5 for Male and Female Player of the Year. The Coaches will contribute 50%, Captains 25%, and Fans 25% during the voting.
This is the fifth successive year that the Airtel FUFA Awards are organized running them ‘Celebrating Uganda’s finest footballers’. This year’s awards function will be held on 14th December at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.

It was a busy weekend for Women Football in the country as the top and 2nd leagues had games played that entertained the followers of the game in different areas over the weekend.
In the top tier, FUFA Women Super League, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC registered its second win with a convincing 4-0 victory against Mutesa I Royal University WFC 4-0 away from home. Anita Namata, Shamirah Nalujja, Asia Nakibuuka, and Juliet Nalukenge were on target for Kawempe.
Kampala Queens suffered the first loss when they were edged by Uganda Martyrs HS WFC 2-1 in Lubaga. Latifa Nakasi scored the winning goal for Uganda Martyrs 12 minutes to time. Kampala Queens captain Fauzia Najjemba had leveled matters through a spot-kick but wasn’t enough to secure any point for the Queens. Brenda Munyana scored the first goal for the hosts.

In Masindi, Fazila Ikwaput’s lone strike in the 78th minute was enough to hand Lady Doves Maximum points against She Corporate FC. It is the second successive win for Lady Doves in the league while She Corporates have suffered a second loss.

Meanwhile, in the FUFA Women Elite League (2nd Tier League), Makerere University WFC overcame Amuria HS WFC 4-0 away in Amuria. Crested Cranes and former Women Cup MVP Aminah Nababi hit the back of the net together with Yudaya Nalubega, Jemima Twesigye, and Mayi Nayiga.
In the other games, Isra Soccer Academy started on a high note with a 2-0 win over Tooro Queens at Kawempe Muslim SS Ground. Younger star Hadijah Nandago and Deborah Alworongo scored both goals.
Kitgum based Vision WFC lost 2-0 to Town View SS WFC. Saluwa Nakayima and Esther Nabaigwa made it for the visitors on the scoresheet with a goal each.

With the National senior team playing their first home match in a year, FUFA has given fans an opportunity to watch their stars at discounted tickets.

‘In a bid to drive more support and fans to the stadium, FUFA has given a 25% discount on each Early Bird ticket at 15,000/= and will be on market for five days only. With the theme 366 Back to Namboole with Cranes spreading like bush fire, we would like the fans to enjoy this discount’ said Hussein.
The early bird tickets will be withdrawn from the market on Tuesday 12th November 2019.
The tickets will be sold at FUFA House.
However FUFA is also working hand in hand with Airtel so that the fans can be able to purchase these tickets using Airtel Money.
Uganda Cranes won 4-0 in convincing fashion over the North East region at the Katakwi High School play ground during a regional tour match on Saturday.
Mustafa Kizza, Fahad Bayo, Joackim Ojeera and second half substitute Hassan Ssenyonjo got the goals for the national team before a mammoth crowd.
Kizza converted a penalty in the 22nd minute following a foul on Ojeera in the forbidden area.
Bayo doubled the lead following a mistake by goalkeeper Joshua Okwaput following an earlier back pass from Steven Oriokot to take a a 2-0 half time lead.
Two late goals from Ojeera, a headed effort off Kizza’s curling corner kick and Ssenyonjo wrapped up the victory.

This was the first regional tour match for new coach Johnathan McKinstry.
The match is part of the preparations for the national team as the 2021 AFCON qualifiers come knocking.
Uganda Cranes will travel to Burkina Faso on 12th November 2019 ahead of the opening group B match the following day in Ouagadougou.
Four days later, Uganda Cranes will entertain Malawi on 17th November 2019 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The Uganda Cranes players have successfully held a recovery training session at Soroti Hotel play ground on Friday evening.
The hour long session was conducted by the head coach Johnathan McKinstry, flanked by the first assistant Abdallah Mubiru and goalkeeping coach, Fred Kajoba.
This followed close to six hours of travel from FUFA House in Kampala where the delegation departed.
The team has pitched camp at Soroti Hotel from where they will depart to Katakwi (an hour’s drive) on Saturday ahead of the eagerly awaited regional tour match against the North East region.

McKinstry will be handling his first ever game in the regional tours since he was named head coach six weeks ago.
The Northern Irish national is keen and eager for the game ahead, which will give him further close interaction with the locally based players.

CECAFA Women Challenge Cup (16th-25th November 2019)
Uganda Women National team- Crested Cranes put up a good performance to overcome Mukono High School 8-0 during a practice match played on Thursday evening at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The team that has spent 2 days in residential camp gearing up for preparations played their practice game ahead of the 2019 CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup that will take place from 16th to 25th November in Tanzania.
The spirited display by the team under Head Coach Bulega Faridah and his second assistant Coach Ayub Kalifah saw their goals scored by Nambatya Favour through a penalty in the 5th minute before adding another 15 minutes later.

Early in the game, Nambatya converted from the spot kick to hand Crested Cranes the lead following a foul by Mukono High defender Akuku Peninah fouled Zaina Namuleme in the penalty area.

Crested Cranes will face Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti in the group B during the CECAFA Women tournament whose new dates have been confirmed as 16th-25th November 2019.

The Uganda Cranes delegation for the North East region tour in Katakwi has set off from FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala on Friday morning.
The team had a successful session on Thursday at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo, where they were also joined by a couple of foreign based players but have not travelled for the trip and wil instead train at Lugogo.

The tour is in line with the preparations for the upcoming Uganda Cranes participation in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers (away to Burkina Faso on 13th November 2019 and at home against Malawi on 17th November 2019).
Also, the tours are intended towards taking the Uganda Cranes brand to the masses.

McKinstry has already lauded the regional tours project, saluting the Federation for the initiative as an element of preparing the players especially those who play in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the national team duties.
‘This is a unique project (Regional Tours) and I have not seen it anywhere in Africa. We are set for the North East region when we play in Katakwi on Saturday. The local based players had a successful training session joined by some of the foreign based players at Lugogo on Thursday. These are early preparations for the two AFCON 2021 qualifiers away to Burkina Faso and at home against Malawi’ Johnthan McKinstry attested.

The Uganda Cranes conducted their first training session on Thursday afternoon at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo prior to the North East region due this weekend.
A total of 22 players took part in the hour and a half session under head coach Johnathan McKinstry, first assistant Abdallah Mubiru and goalkeeping coach, Fred Kajoba.
16 of these players are the local based legion with the others foreign based.
McKinstry expressed delight handling his first session with a combination of local and foreign based players and believes this is a perfect start for the AFCON 2021 qualifiers.

The Uganda Cranes will play a regional tour match in Katakwi on Saturday 9th November 2019.
This will be the third time the Uganda Cranes Regional tour heads to the region.

FUFA has confirmed that Uganda Beach Soccer Association Chairman Deo Mutabazi will attend the International Beach Soccer 2020 Launch in Dubai on 9th November 2019. The Launch will take place at the Dubai Sports Council Amphitheatre.
During his stay in Dubai, Mutabazi will have the opportunity to attend the International Beach Soccer Cup at the Dubai Beach Soccer Stadium-Kite Beach. He will also take a moment with Beach Soccer Stars at the V-Hotel in Dubai.

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Johnathan McKinstry has named 21 players for the Regional Tour Match to be played in Katakwi on Saturday 9th November 2019.

Olila got the lead through Sharon Achen in the 34th Minute before Kampala Queens pulled off an equalizer in the 61st minute with a well-taken spot-kick from new signing Fauzia Najjemba.
With only 4 minutes to full time, Amangat Marion brought down Kampala Queens forward Liilian Mutuuzo inside the area. Skipper Fauzia Najjemba was again given the duty to step up and take the penalty which duly converted.

Uganda Crested Cranes head coach Faridah Bulega has named a provisional squad of 35 players to start preparations for the 2019 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Bulega who was joined by the second assistant coach Ayub Khalifa confirmed the provisional squad to the media during a press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday morning.
‘I thank the Executive of FUFA for entrusting me with the team and beefing up the technical side with Ayub Khalifan. Together with him, we are going to achieve as we seek to win the championship’ Bulega noted.

In total, there are 35 players summoned and non residential training will commence on Thursday, 31st October 2019 at Luzira for five days before the team enters residential camp at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
By 12th November 2019, the final team will be named to travel to Dar es Salaam.
Ruth Aturo will be captain and the assistant captain will be confirmed in due course.

Mugisha confirmed the entire backroom staff for McKinstry that has Abdallah Mubiru and Livingstone Mbabazi as the first and second assistants respectively.
Fred Kajoba is maintained as goalkeeping coach, Ayub Balyejusa is the equipment manager and Geofrey Massa as the team coordinator.
All the appointments are on interim basis.
The same press conference was also graced by the FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of Football Decolas Kiiza, Hamid Juma (FUFA Executive Committee member) and Patrick Ntege Kaweesa (National Teams Manager).
