COSAFA U-17 Girls Championship 2019:
Semifinal 1: Uganda 12-0 Botswana
Semifinal 2: South Africa 2-1 Zambia
Uganda U-17 girls team progressed to the finals of the 2019 COSAFA U-17 girls championship condemning Botswana 12-0 at the St. Francois Xavier Stadium in Mauritius on Friday morning.

The day’s best player of the match Fauzia Najjemba scored a lion’s share of the goals (six). The other goals were hat-tricks apiece for Margret Kunihira and Juliet Nalukenge.
All the three players Najjemba, Kunihira, and Nalukenge each received a ball.

Kunihira opened the scores in the 4th minute and Nalukenge doubled the lead two minutes later in what turned out to be an easy ride.
By half, Nalukenge, Najjemba, and Kunihira had a brace each to take a comfortable 6-0 lead ahead of the second half.
Upon resumption, Najjemba was on fire scoring four goals before Nalukenge and Kunihira added a goal apiece to complete their hat tricks.

Coach Khalifa made changes bringing on goalkeeper Joan Namusisi to replace Daphine Nyayenga. Hadijah Nandago and Cissy Kabawani also came on replacing Nagadya and Bira Naddunga respectively.
Kunihira was named players of the match and she received the accolade.
Uganda booked their berth to the final and will play South Africa in Sunday’s final at the same venue.

South African overcame Zambia 2-1 during the second semi-final match on Friday.
Head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi commended the spirit of the players since matchday one to the semi-final where they managed to progress for the final.
“I thank the players for the spirit and character shown since our first match. We shall remain calm and focused ahead of the final” Ayub Khalifa noted.

Uganda was invited by the organizers at this championship.

Uganda Girls U17 National Team head coach Ayub Khalifa has announced the eleven players that will start in the COSAFA Girls U17 semifinal match against Botswana this Friday at St. Francois Xavier Stadium in Mauritius.
Katuuso Community SS forward Catherine Nagadya makes her first start in the championship. She replaces Samali Nakacwa who started against Comoros in the last group A match.
Skipper Juliet Nalukenge leads the forward alongside Fauzia Najjemba and Margret Kunihira.
Kevin Nakacwa retains her central midfield role with Shakira Nyinagahirwa as her partner in the center of the park.
Olila High School’s Bira Nadunga and Kawempe Muslim SS player Stella Musibika will continue to pair in the central defence.
Patricia Akiror and Gillian Akadinda take over the right and left full-backs respectively.

UGANDA CRANES REGIONAL TOURS 2019:
Saturday, 28th September: West Nile Region Select Vs Uganda Cranes

The Uganda Cranes interim head coach Abdallah Mubiru has named the 22 players who will travel to the West Nile region for highly billed clash with the select team at the Adjumani stadium on Saturday, 28th September 2019.
Majority of the players who featured in the Uganda Cranes CHAN team that won 3-0 in convincing fashion away to Burundi have been summoned as the team prepares for the return leg later in October at Lugogo.
To that effect, the tentative program has been released to ensure the team travels smoothly from Kampala to Adjumani.
The team will depart Kampala from FUFA House on Friday, 27th November 2019 at 7 AM for Gulu. They will check in at Boma Hotel and conduct a training session at Pece War Memorial Stadium in the evening. On the morning of Saturday, 28th September 2019, the team will depart for Adjumani where the match will take place later in the day at 4:00 PM.
The regional tours were initiated with clear cut objectives as bringing the national team brand closer to the populous, continuous monitoring and progress of the national team pool of players as well as a platform to expose raw talents from the respective eight regions of FUFA (Kampala, Buganda, West Nile, North, Kitara, Western, North East and Northern).

CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup
Group C
South Sudan 3-0 Somalia
South Sudan booked a berth into the quarterfinals of the 2019 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup after registering a 3-0 win against Somalia at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Wednesday.
A goal apiece from captain Daniel Samuel Solongo, Jospeh Stephen Dhata and Makweth Akeen Wol ensured South Sudan picked maximum points to finish top in group C.


They garnered four points in two games but had a superior goal difference over second placed Burundi who also had the same points.
It should be noted that Burundi and South Sudan shared spoils in a three all draw and the former defeated Somalia 2-0.
This therefore means, South Sudan end the group stage with one more goal but both qualify for the quarterfinal stage.
The duo joins Eritrea, Sudan and Uganda from group A plus Tanzania and Kenya that have already sealed their slots.
The final slot is up for grabs between Zanzibar and Ethiopia who play Tanzania and Kenya respectively on Thursday.
Zanzibar have three points after defeating Ethiopia while the latter need at least to win against Kenya to stand any chance.

2019 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup:
Group A:
Uganda Hippos and Sudan U-17 settled for a 2 all draw in the final group A at the Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu on Wednesday.
Steven Sserwadda and Bright Anukani scored in either halves for a 2-0 lead.


Ammar Mohamed Kannou and a late Muhamed Abbas Namir’s stunning strike brought Sudan back to the square one.
In the earlier match, Eritrea ejected Djibouti 7-0.
From group A, Eritrea, Sudan and Uganda make the quarter final grade.

Uganda Hippos head coach Morley Byekwaso has confirmed the starting line up to face Sudan in the final group A clash at the Pece War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
There are three changes to the team that started against Djibouti in the second game on Monday.
In comes Joseph Kafumbe, Bright Anukani, Sadat Happy Anaku and Sadam Masereka. Kafumbe, Anukani and Masereka start their first game at the championship.
Goalkeeper Denis Otim maintains his slot in between the goal posts. Abdul Aziz Kayondo is maintained at left back and so is the central defence pairing of captain Gavin Kizito and Kenneth Ssemakula. It is a compact midfield department that has Bright Anukani, Hassan Ssenyonjo, Ivan Asaba, Steven Sserwadda and Sadam Masereka.
Happy Sadat Anaku will play the lead striking role.
Uganda Hippos has already progressed to the knock out stage and needs maximum points to top group A.

CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup Uganda 2019:
Tuesday Results
The on-going CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda entered day four with two thrilling encounters in group B played at FUFA Technical Centre on Tuesday.
Two traditional arch-rivals Kenya and Tanzania faced off in the early kick off at 1:30 PM.
The game lived to its anticipated billing, producing four goals as the two countries settled for a two all draw to qualify for the quarter finals.
On two occasions, Tanzania rallied from a goal down to pick a point in this closely contested duel.

Austin Otieno Odhiambo fired Kenya in the lead in the 26th minute.
Ten minutes later, Andrew Albert Simchimba found the equalizer as the first half ended 1 all.
Patrick Otieno restored Kenya’s lead in the 53rd minute but Abdul Suleiman replied for Tanzania three minutes later.

The result means Kenya and Tanzania are level on points (4) but the former have a better goal difference.
Kenya won their first game 5-0 against Zanzibar while Tanzania defeated Ethiopia 4-0.

The second game on the day witnessed Zanzibar win 2-1 over Ethiopia.
Zanzibar required a stoppage time goal from midfielder Hassan Abubakar Said to edge past Ethiopia.
Sadaam Makame Mohamed put Zanzibar ahead in the first half but Hajiso Abebayehu scored for Ethiopia midway through the second half to have a tense closing moment.
Deep in added time, Said got the match winner and help Zanzibar register their first win.
Group B final games will be played on Thursday with Tanzania playing neighbours Zanzibar while Kenya will face Ethiopia.

On Wednesday, Somalia will play South Sudan in the final game of group C at the FUFA Technical Centre.
Hosts Uganda will face Sudan at Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu in the game that will determine who tops group A.

Uganda U-17 Girls’ national team humiliated Comoros 20-00 during a one-sided COSAFA U-17 Girls Championship group A contest at the Anjalay Stadium, Mauritius on Tuesday.
Skipper Juliet Nalukenge continued with her scoring spree at the tournament scoring seven goals today to take her tally to 15 and regain the lead in the top scorers’ race.

Margaret Kunihira too was impressive on the day scoring five goals while Fauzia Najjemba and diminutive midfielder Shakira Nyinagahirwa added a double brace (four goals) and a hat-trick respectively.
Right-back Gillian Akadinda also spared time to move forward and get onto the score sheet in a one-sided affair.
Uganda led 14-00 by the half time break before the rest of the goals coming in the subsequent half.
A dominant display saw Uganda whitewash minnows Comoros winning the last group game 20-0 to eventually top group A.


The victory meant Uganda ascended to the summit of group A on superior goal difference scoring a total of 32 goals in three games, eleven more than Zambia who also finished with seven points.
‘We came in the match to score as many goals as possible and it’s what my players have done. Now all our focus in on semifinals. The other three teams may be good but we are better.’ Said Uganda Girls U17 head coach Ayub Khalifa

Nalukenge was named player of the match and also awarded a match ball. Najjemba, Nyinagahirwa, and Kunihira too were given match balls.

Uganda will face Botswana in the semifinals on Friday 27th September 2019.

Burundi sealed a berth into the knockout phase of the 2019 CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup after picking a hard-fought win against Somalia.
A closely contested encounter played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Monday saw Burundi win 2-1 and make it to the quarterfinal stage.
Burundi had earned a point in their opening game against South Sudan and a 2-1 victory against Somalia meant they advanced to the next stage.

It should be noted that group C has only three teams and the top two qualify to the quarterfinals.
Captain Hamimu Hakizimana and Louis Romeo Ndunimana scored a goal apiece for Burundi while second-half substitute Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi got the consolation for Somalia.
Hakizimina opened the scores in the 40th minute with his low strike just outside the area going past goalkeeper Said Aweys Ali.
In the 56th minute, Ndunimana doubled the lead for Burundi capitalizing poor marking by Somalia’s defence.
With the game destined for the end, Abdi pulled one back for Somalia who now has to win against South Sudan on Wednesday to stand any chance of qualifying to the next stage.

In group A, hosts Uganda outwitted Djibouti 5-1 to go top on four points while Sudan and Eritrea settled for a three all draw in a thrilling encounter played at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.
Action will resume on Tuesday with group B fixture at the FUFA Technical Centre. Kenya will face Tanzania while Zanzibar will play Ethiopia.

It was a goal galore at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu as the Uganda U-20 national team (Uganda Hippos) humiliated Djibouti 5-1 during a group A contest at the 2019 CECAFA Challenge Cup on Monday.
Steven Sserwadda (brace), Ivan Bogere, Isma Mugulusi and Justine Opiro were on target for Uganda.
Kalid Osman Elmi netted the consolation for Djibouti.
Uganda’s goalkeeper Denis Otim was at his best thwarting a kick from the penalty spot by Djibouti team captain Idriss Mogueh Omar.
Sserwadda returned with the third seven minutes into the second half before Djibouti pulled a goal back through Kalid Osman Elmi for an ordinary mistake by goalkeeper Denis Otim.


Uganda Hippos’ technical team headed by Morley Byekwaso called for all the three mandatory changes.
Isma Mugulusi, Bright Anukani and Sadat Anaku replaced Ivan Asaba, Najib Yiga and the two goal hero Steven Sserwadda respectively.
Mugulusi hit the post from the right wing as minutes trickled down the clock and Hassan Ssenyonjo missed from close range after being set up superbly by Anaku.

Other results:
In the other matches played on Monday, Sudan and Eritrea shared the spoils after a 3 goal stalemate during the early kick off match at Pece Stadium.
Mewael Tesfai Yosief, captain Robel Teklem Michael (penalty), and Ali Suleiman Ibrahim were on target for Eritrea.
Mohamed Abbas Namir, Shihab Eldeen Siddiq Abdalrahman and Musab Kurdman Elfaki replied for Sudan.
At the FUFA Technical Center, Burundi advanced for the quarter finals following a 2-1 win over Somalia.
Hamimu Hakizimana and Louis Romeo Ndunimana scored in either halves for Burundi for the 2-0 lead at some stage of the game.
Ahmed Abdullah Abdi pulled a late goal for Somalia to give the score line a worthy respectable second look.

Eritrea takes on Djibouti on Wednesday, 25th September 2019 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium (1:30 PM).
On the same day, Uganda will play Sudan. Both Uganda and Sudan are on four points apiece.
Uganda’s head coach Morley Byekwaso hailed the players for the spirited and improved display in the 5-1 win over Djibouti.
He thereafter promised a better showing on Wednesday against Sudan.
‘We have improved a great deal than our first game. I know with time, we shall continue to gel with as I also get more acquitted to the team’ Byekwaso noted during the post match press conference.

Uganda U17 Women’s national football team put up a dominant at the ongoing COSAFA U17 Women’s Championship to dispatch hosts Mauritius 11-0 on Sunday.
Right from the onset, Uganda proved the better side and eventually went ahead to win their second group game 11-0.
Captain Juliet Nalukenge orchestrated the damage scoring a double hat trick (six goals) in the game played at St. Francois Xavier stadium.

Fauza Najjemba scored a brace while goalkeeper Daphine Nanyenga converted from the spot before Stella Musubika and Margaret Kunihira scored a goal each.
As early as the second minute, Uganda had taken the lead through Kunihira before Nalukenge doubled the lead three minutes later in what turned out to be a field day.
Defender Musubika got Uganda’s third goal before Nalukenge added two more goals to complete her hat trick before the break.

Despite scoring many goals in the first stanza, Uganda kept surging forward with Nalukenge scoring three more goals in the 49th, 51st, 61st and 74th minutes.
Najjemba added one more in the 66th minute after goalkeeper Daphine Nanyenga had converted from the spot when Nalukenge was fouled inside the area in the 54th minute.

‘We came for a win and we have achieved it. We have missed a couple of chances at goal but 11 goals will push us further in the tournament’ Said Uganda Girls U17 head coach Ayub Khalifa.

Nalukenge was named player of the game and also walked away with the match ball.

The victory elevates Uganda to four points in two games but still second in group A behind Zambia who defeated Comoros 15-0.
Uganda will return to action on Tuesday against Comoros in the final group game.
Uganda’s Nalukenge is the leading goal scorer with 7 goals.
The South African duo of Tiffany Kortjie and Oyisa Marhasi have scored 6 goals apiece.
Florence Kasonde and Shelly Masumo, both of Zambia have 4 goals.

Uganda Girls U17 National team head coach Ayub Khalifa has released the starting list for the COSAFA Girls U17 the match against the hosts Mauritius in the COSAFA Girls U17 Championship at St. Francois Xavier Stadium in Port Luis Mauritius this afternoon.
This is the second game for Uganda in Group A after a 1-1 draw with Zambia in the opening match.
Uganda Martyrs High School Goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga retained her number 1 position, Gillian Akadinda (Olila High School) on the right, Patricia Akiror (Masaka SS) on the left while Stella Musibika (Kawempe Muslim SS) and Bira Nadunga are to take over the central defence role.

In the midfield, Uganda Martyrs midfield Keven Nakacwa starts with Shakira Nyinagahirwa from Kawempe Muslim SS, Margret Kunihira joins the offensive positions at the flanks together with Taggy High School’s Zaitun Namaganda.
Team captain Juliet Nalukenge is remains in her natural position as the leading forward together with assistant Captain Fauzia Najjemba.
‘We have made a strong review of our last game. This match is so important to us. We only need victory from the game’ Said Ayub during the pre match press conference on Saturday.
