The 69th FIFA Congress in Paris, France by acclamation, confirmed Giovanni Vincenzo “Gianni” Infantino as the president of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for another four years on Wednesday, 5th June 2019.
All the 211 member associations in unison voted the Swiss – Italian as unopposed.
Infantino, the 9th president in the history of the organization will serve his second term as the President until 2023.
He was first elected at an Extraordinary Congress in February 2016.
The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo led the Ugandan top brass delegation in the congress that also had the first vice president Justus Mugisha and the CEO, Edgar Watson.

Meanwhile, the supreme legislative body of FIFA approved the Activity report and financial statements for 2018, as well as the detailed budget for 2020, which includes USD 810 million allocated to investments in football.
The 70th FIFA Congress will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in May 2020.

Allan Kateregga is the latest player to join Uganda Cranes camp in Abu Dhabi as the team continues with preparations for the 2019 Total AFCON Finals in Egypt.
The South Africa based midfielder who plays for PSL side Maritzburg arrived on Tuesday morning but didn’t take part in the training session as the team had already left for the stadium.

Two more players Emma Okwi and Nicholas Wadada will jet later today (8.1pm Local time, 7.15pm EAST) to bring the number to 24 in camp.
Bbakka Alexis ( Carlstad United BK, Sweden), Lumala Abdu (Syrianska FC, Sweden), Kizito Luwagga (Shakhter Karagandy, Kazahstan) and Salim Jamal (Al Hilal-Sudan) are the players who have arrived in camp in the last 48 hours.

Luwagga and Jamal joined the rest of the team in training on Monday evening after undergoing the mandatory medcial tests. Kateregga, Bbakka and Lumala will also have to visit the medical personnel in Abdu Dhabi for the exercise. Okwi and Wadada completed their medicals in Kampala.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals were crowned 2018/2019 FUFA Women Elite League for the first time in history after defeating Lady Doves 2-0 in the final playoff at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Sunday.
A goal in each half from midfielder Hassifa Nassuna and forward Maureen Kinavudori guided the Mukono based club to the maiden national league championship.
Nassuna gave UCU Lady Cardinals the lead in the 38th minute with well-taken free-kick that beat goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.

Lady Doves striker Akwero Miriam received two clear chances that would put her team on the level but her final efforts in a one-on-one situation ended in the safe hands of UCU Lady Cardinals goalkeeper Ruth Aturo.
In the second half, skipper Kinavudori had an opportunity to double the lead when she controlled the ball in inside the area before her shot went wide.
Nassuna would have been on spot with another well-curved free-kick on the edge of the box in the 75th minute however the ball was inches wide.
With 7 minutes to the end of the game, Kinavudori was picked by Jacqueline Nakasi from the left side and the skipper made no mistake to have her effort into the back of the net.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo will be the highest ranked football figure from Uganda in Cairo when the Total AFCON gets underway in Egypt on 21st June 2019.
By virtue of his status as a CAF Executive Committee Member, Eng. Magogo will be in Egypt to deliberate on various football matters with the rest of the CAF Executive Members.

Four Ugandans appointed for duty
FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson and Events Manager Leilah Nankya have been appointed by CAF for specific roles at the forthcoming Total Africa Cup of Nations- Egypt that kicks off on 21st June 2019.
Watson has been named on the CAF Technical Study Group while Nankya is a Protocol Officer.

The duo will be joined by two other Ugandans with vast experience in their areas of operation. Andrew Jackson Oryada was appointed a Media Officer while Okello Dixon as Security Officer.

Uganda Cranes lost to Lesotho on kicks from the penalty mark after a goalless draw in the quarterfinal of the COSAFA Cup in Durban, South Africa on Saturday evening.
Despite Uganda dominating the entire game with superior possession and numeral chances at goal they still failed to make a difference on the scoreboard.

Micheal Birungi, Daniel Isiagi Opolot, Shafik Kagimu and Daniel Serunkuuma piled pressure on Lesotho but found it tough to break through. Serunkuma came in for Isiagi and had four shots on target but one of his his efforts hit the post in the 65th minute while the other shots denied by goalkeeper Ketsekile Samuel.
Juma Balinya also had a chance to score in the 72nd minute when Mutyaba picked him with a through pass before his shot was thwarted away by the goalkeeper.

Paul Mucuurezi and Allan Kayiwa were introduced in the game for Birungi and Kagimu respectively.
When the match progressed to Kicks from the penalty mark, KCCA FC young lad Mustafa Kizza missed the opner, John Revita and Paul Mucureezi also failed to convert while Mutyaba Balinya were spot on.

‘The game was competitive as we tried as much as we could to get some chances but missed them. We were also lucky not to concede. We lacked some maturity during the spot kicks. Uganda Cranes will play the loser between South Africa and Botswana in the COSAFA Plate on 4th June 2019. COSAFA Plate is a classification competition for teams that lose on the quarterfinals.
However, the record still stands that Uganda has never lost to Lesotho in regular time in all the last meetings.

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has confirmed that the National team currently in Camp in Abu Dhabi will face Turkmenistan on 9th June at the New York University stadium in Abu Dhabi. However this match will be played behind closed doors and fans will not be allowed to access the stadium. The match will kickoff off at 8pm.

However the organisers of the two friendlies have cleared the fans to watch their heroes when Uganda Cranes takes on Ivory Coast on 15th June 2019. The venue, Charges and kick off time are yet to be communicated by the organsiers.
Saturday training
Training at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi Cricket Sports Complex continued in the morning under the guidance of the head coach and his assistant.
‘We must put value to every moment we spend here in Abu Dhabi. The intensity of the training is picking up and that calls for high levels of total discipline. We must prepare very well for the tournament and that is why we have organized two friendlies for the team on 9th and 15th June against very good teams’ said Sebastien.
The players will return to training later today to complete the double sessions planned by the technical team. The team will have a day off tomorrow but two more players Kizito Luwagga and Salim Jamal will join camp later on Sunday while Lumala Abdu and Alexis Bakka will fly in on Monday 3rd June.

FUFA on Friday convened with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Clubs administrators who include the owners, chairpersons, CEOs and the UPL board in a workshop at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi.

While facilitating the workshop, the FUFA President highlighted on Club Management which focused on the difference between an amateur football club, a professional football club, the difference between the two, the state at which Uganda premier league clubs are and what needs to be done to shift from amateur football to professional football among others.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), a key partner with Buganda Kingdom has confirmed the match officials for the official opening match of the 2019 Masaza cup match between Ssingo and Ssese at the Mityana Ssaza ground on Saturday, 1st June 2019.
The King of Buganda Kingdom, His Majesty the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will be the chief guest at the game that kicks off at 3 PM.
Nasser Muhammed Kirya has been tasked to be the center referee.

Before the opening match, there will be a curtain raising match for the girls as St Noa and Dynamic entertains the crowd.
Shamirah Nabukenya will officiate the curtain raiser as the center referee; assisted by Oliver Nakitto (first assistant) and Sharon Atuhairwe as the second assistant.
FUFA provides all the referees and match assessors that are used in the Masaza cup.

It is that time of the camp that any coach will have calculated and planned sessions with players ahead of any tournament.
In Abu Dhabi where the Uganda Cranes is camped for the next weeks, players will be expected to work their socks off to convince the Head coach of how they deserve to be in his final 23 man Squad for the Total AFCON 2019 Egypt.
The busiest technical official in the Uganda Cranes camp on Wednesday morning was Physical fitness trainer Gerome D’Antonio at the Park Rotana Hotel and closely monitored by head coach Sebastien Desabre as players divided into three groups walked into the gym at periodical intervals for their sessions. Assistant coach Matia Lule, the medical team of Dr. Ronald Kisolo, Dr. Ivan Ssewanyana and Dr. Charles Sebwana were also around.

All the 17 players in camp took part in the gym session that lasted 45 minutes per group before they were allowed to go enjoy swimming, a game of pool and table tennis.

Having had a training session late on Tuesday under floodlights, the players will head back to Sheikh Zayed Stadium to complete the day’s programme.

Muslims fasting in camp
It is a sizeable number of muslims in camp observing the fourth pillar of Islam. Sebastien has designed a programme that fits exactly into the Ramadan period for those fasting. They are able to break the fast on time in the evening with the timing signal coming off the Adhan (Calling muslims for prayer) from the nearby Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque.

On Tuesday, 28th May 2019, the sports federations and associations gathered together at Lugogo for the first minister’s sports forum to brain storm and share ideas.
Here is the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo’s message after the historic forum.
Sports Priority Levels:
For the 2019/20 FY, Sports has been allocated about 20b UGX out of the 25.545t UGX which is 0.078%.
Whereas the Education Sector is allocated 10.5% of the National Budget, only the 0.078% goes to sports and rest of 10.422% goes to Education. In other words, out of the Education Sector budget, 99.2% is for Education and 0.8% is for Sports.
I have read the entire (368 pages) 2019/20 Budget Framework Paper and the word Sports is used only 48 times and 32 times as part of the name of the Ministry.
This therefore indicates the priority level of Sports and in particular federations activities yet it is the federations that actually develop, prepare and present the athletes who represent the country at all levels.
Proper development of athletes to compete at international stage takes over 10 years.

The Case for Sports
Despite all this disproportionate allocation to sports, there are many value additions that Sports can make to the society and our country.
It is estimated that 77% of the Uganda Population is below 30 years and that for the Ugandans aged between 15-24 years, 83% are un-employed.
It is also estimated that 8.8 million of those aged between 15-24 years are neither in school nor in employment (Source: UNFPA)
57% of those aged 14-35 years are involved in Drugs Abuse while Uganda is ranked the world’s worst Alcohol abuse. It is also stated that 73% of Uganda’s prison inmates are aged 18-30 years (Source: Youth Policy Press)
These demographics and statistics suggest that there is an impeding problem of young people who are not productive to support the economy that should provide for them the services and life they desire.
I call them the ticking time-bomb.
The first case of sports to Government should be that nothing will absorb the energy and time of these youths and convert them into useful citizens like sport.
The second case of sports to government should be that the World Professional Sports Economy is booming at over 640bn USD and China alone investing to boost its Sports industry to 300bn USD by 2025.
Professional Sport is a robust industry that can provide an economic activity to skilled and unskilled masses instantly.

Analysis:
Sport is not positioning itself in a way to share the national cake worth its value.
This requires all voices and energy in one direction.
It is unfortunate that people like Mr. Muhangi Moses, the President of the Boxing Federation have engaged the reverse gear and pressing the accelerator.
The reason sport is not getting enough resources has nothing to do with football but the entire priority levels for sport against other competing priorities.
We need to make our case as sport to be part of the solutions to the challenges of our society and the Government will allocate more resources to sport.
It is possible that each of the 50 federations can get 10b UGX as that would only be 500bn UGX which would be only 2% of the National Budget.
We also need to raise governance levels of Federations as we prepare to absorb such funds else more conflicts will emerge instead.
We cannot present a case of medals to government when Energy, Roads, Health and Education are not getting enough resources.

Way Forward:
A fully fledged sports industry does not need only funding of federations but a set of things such as;
Modern Sports Law
Sports Infrastructure
Sports Investment Policies
Sports Curriculum for Tertiary Education
Funding of National Representative Teams and Athletes
Hosting of international Sports Events
With due respect, I do not believe the government sports technocrats have the expertise and means to ably advise government on the trend of modern sports.
We request the minister to cause a series of opportunities for the sports minds of this country to meet the government planning technocrats, the Parliament, the Hon Minister of Education for Sport, the Cabinet and his Excellence the President of the Republic of Uganda to make our case.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) was among the several sports federations invited for the sports forum workshop organised by the National Council of Sports on Tuesday at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo.
The forum was graced by the Minister of State for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi who presided over the function. He was flanked by Omara Apita (Commissioner of Ministry of Education and Sports), Aggrey Kibenge (Under Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports), Bosco Onyik (NCS Chairman) and Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel (Acting General Secretary National Council of Sports).
Addressing the officials at the forum, the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo highlighted on the essence for Uganda sports industry to join arms in a bid to tap into the global sports industry.
‘Uganda should strategically position itself in the approximately $600Billion global sports industry and to be able to tap into this, we need a common voice and goal. We also need to equally address challenges of law on merchandising and commercial rights‘ Eng. Moses Magogoremarked.
FUFA was also represented at the forum in Lugogo by Executive Member Mr. Chris Kalibbala and FUFA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr. Humphrey Mandu.
‘Whereas funding is a key element but our projection should move away from the egg-chicken stories that we seem to be focusing on. As sports, we need to show value to Government and there’s no way we are going to achieve that if we are divided. 70% of the population in Uganda is below the age of 30 and many are unemployed. As sports, this is a tool we can sell to the Government, show value and convince them that sports can solve the problem by employing the youth‘ Eng Magogo added.

State Minister of Sports Hon. Charles Bakabulindi hailed the spirit upon which the sports federations respected and attended this forum, basis of ironing out the different challenges facing the sports industry in the country at the moment, per say, the sports associations and federations.
‘I thank the different federations and associations that despite the several challenges, you have been able to promote sports in the country. I am happy that the Government has created this platform for us to forge a way forward and this is evident enough that the government has an interest in the sector. It is only through such engagements that we shall have a common ground and therefore be able to form strategies. I pray such fora continues to take place‘ Hon. Charles Bakabulindinoted.

‘This Sports Forum should define indicators or measure of performance of Sports Associations to guide on the contentious issue of sports funding. Equally other stakeholders like sponsors, NGOs, Nutritionists should be invited to create a total package‘Dr Donald Rukare, Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) official and President of Uganda Swimming Federation.
‘The perceptive of Sports in Uganda has progressively improved over the last 8 years and this is not only due to the increased funding but also because of the deliberate strategies to transform and improve sport’Aggrey Kabenge, Under Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports.
A couple of other pertinent issues as professionalization of the sports sector, legislation, taxation and infrastructure development among others were also discussed by the sports federation and associations leaders.
A similar symposium is being planned for in early August 2019 as a follow up mechanism.
The last forum of this stature organized by the NCS was in 2014 but it remains on record that FUFA was the first sports body in Uganda to bring together all sports federations and associations with a similar workshop last year at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The Sports Forum 2019 is the beginning of many more future engagements with Sports Associations.
The outcomes should be able to feed into the Cabinet Paper to advocate and address the concerns of the sports sector.
The Uganda Cranes COSAFA bound team conducted the final training at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Tuesday ahead of their journey to Durban City, South Africa on Wednesday afternoon (3:00pm) with a 29 man contingent (20 players and 9 officials).

AFCON Fixtures 22nd June Uganda vs the Democtratic Republic of Congo 26th June 26 Uganda vs Zimbabwe 30th June Egypt vs Uganda
The days are getting closer to the kick-off of the Total AFCON Finals in Egypt. Uganda Cranes are not taking things for granted as a three week camp in Abu Dhabi will have help Sebastien Desabre tune up his boys ahead of the continental show piece that kicks off on 21st June in Cairo.
Upon arrival in the Arab world on Monday afternoon, the head coach shared his training schedule with the players which rolled off on Tuesday morning at the Sheikh Zayed stadium -Abu Dhabi Cricket Sports complex. The Uganda Cranes contingent is camped at the five star Park Rotana Hotel.
The one hour session saw the players undergo drills that involved warm up sessions of running and stretching but with less time on the ball. The team is expected to return to the same complex at 7.30pm to complete the day’s double training session.
Uganda Cranes Captain Denis Onyango trained alone under the guidance of experienced goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba. Onyango’s other colleagues in the goalkeeping area Robert Odongkara, Salim Jamal and Charles Lukwago will join camp later.

Sebastien asks players to concentrate and makeuse of the camp
Head coach Sebastien Desabre has asked his players to remain focussed during their stay in Abu Dhabi.
‘It is not easy to adapt to this weather as it is hot. It is important for the boys to adapt to the weather but I am happy with the first session today. It is the same weather they will find in Egypt. They need to concentrate a lot. We need to prepare well for the tournament as we have two friendlies on 9th and 15th June before we fly out to Cairo’ said Sebastien Desabre.

Kirizestom Ntambi joins camp
The stylish midfielder who can also be slotted in defence joined the camp in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning. The Coffee FC player is expected to train with the rest of the team later today. Dr. Charles Sebwana has been added on the medical professionals list in camp. He is a Chiropractor who specializes in bones and joints.
‘Allow me to welcome a new member of the team Dr. Charles Sebwana. He is the team’s Chiropractor who will do a wonderful job with us during this camp. He will join Dr. Ronald Kisolo and Dr. Ivan Sewanyana’ said the coach who briefed the players about Dr. Sebwana before the team left Kabira Country club on Monday morning.

The Uganda Cranes delegation that departed the country for Abu Dhabi on Monday morning (4am) reached their final destination at 2:55 PM (East African Time, 3.55pm in Abu Dhabi).
All the players and officials on board reached safely before checking in at Park Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
The group was also joined by Egyptian based striker Derrick Nsibambi while in Abu Dhabi.
They are expected to conduct their opening session on Tuesday morning (9:30 AM) and again in the afternoon (5:30 PM).
Team captain Denis Onyango expects great benefits from this training camp which will further prepare them for the 2019 TOTAL AFCON Championship in Egypt.
‘The players have trained well in Kampala for two weeks to boost the fitness levels. I believe the camp in Abu Dhabi will further help the team and polish us up. Also, the weather will be a great deal for acclimization just like the weather in Egypt‘ Dennis Onyango stated.

St. Henry’s College Kitovu head teacher Brother Augustine Mugabo saluted the current administration at the helm of FUFA leadership led by Eng. Moses Magogo for restoring tranquility and sanity back to the beautiful game in the country.

St Henry’s College Kitovu hosted President’s XI team game against Masaka Select on the eve of Stanbic Uganda Cup on Friday 24th May. The School further hosted the FUFA executives and invited both teams for a dinner.

The 2018/19 Stanbic Uganda Cup winners recovered from a goal down to beat Bright Stars 5-4 during a tense post match penalty shoot out.
Normal time of the game had ended one goal apiece with Nelson Senkatuka scoring the day’s opener while Musitafa Mujuzi getting the equaliser from the spot kick.
Bright Stars had been reduced to 10 men with Aggrey Kirya’s red card in the last 10 minutes of the game.
