    FUFA Vice President Mugisha appointed on Belgium based International Schools Sports body

    FUFA Vice President Mr. Justus Mugisha has been appointed as President of the Technical Commission in charge of football in the International School Sport Federation (ISF) for the period running from 2018 – 2022.  The appointment was confirmed by the ISF President Laurent Petrynka.

    Part of the confirmation letter for Mugisha’s appointment reads;

    ‘The last Executive Committee that took place on 17th – 18th November 2018 in Sochi, Russian Federation decided to cast the positions of Presidents of the Technical Commissions.  On behalf of the Management Committee, I have the pleasure to inform you, that given your expertise, you have been appointed as the TC President – Football for a period of four years.

    We thank you for having committed yourself in endorsing more duties with ISF. We are convinced that the work you will develop within your committee will highly contribute in growing the goals, values and traditions of the international school sport movement’

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo couldn’t hide his joy about the news.

    ‘We know his values and support to football in Uganda. I am convinced that his hard work has taken him this far. We are confident that he will deliver on all fronts as he continues to take his expertise in football to another level at the global scene’ said FUFA President Magogo

    Mugisha was elated man as well.

    Who is Justus Mugisha?

    • Born on 27th April 1965
    • He is the FUFA 1st Vice President
    • President of Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools sports Association (FEASSSA)
    • Executive Member of Federation of Africa School Sports
    • Owns Standard High School Zana that has produced players who graduated to play for the various National teams including the Uganda Cranes
    • FIFA Instructor for Football Administration and Management

    About: International School Sport Federation (ISF)

    • The International School Sport Federation(ISF) is an international sport governing body for school sport.
    • Founded in 1972 with 21 signatory nations (all European), the federation has been organising international competitions to encourage education through sport and student athletes.
    • It has 113 members including Uganda from five continents
    • ISF is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1995 and is a member of SportAccord.
    • Its headquarters are based in Brussels, Belgium.
    • ISF limits itself to activities with school children between the ages of 13 to 18 (roughly contiguous with High School age. This distinguishes its role from the longer-established International University Sports Federation, which governs student sport from the ages of 17 to 25.
    • Currently 45 sports disciplines are organized by ISF.

    FUFA Women’s Cup 2019 Round of 32 draws

    The draws for the 3rd edition of  the FUFA Women’s Cup round of 32 were held at FUFA House on Wednesday morning.

    The draws were guided by FUFA Licensing Manager Ivan Bayige Kintu who gave every club representative present a chance to get involved in the process by picking teams from the pool. Former Uganda Cranes International Paul Ssali also took part in the process.

    FUFA Women’s Cup holders UCU Lady Cardinals and FUFA Women Elite League champions Kawempe Muslim Women Club were drawn and will face off in the round of 32. The fixture was confirmed after Crested Cranes captain  and Kawempe Muslim star player Tracy Jones Akiror picked the two teams from the pool. Akiror also helped in picking from the main pool two other fixtures.

    Akiror while representing Kawempe Muslim at the draws anticipated an entertaining encounter between the two rivals.

    ‘We expect to have an entertaining encounter in Mukono. We are not afraid of our opponents and we shall do whatever it takes to qualify for the next round’ said Akiror.

    UCU Lady Cardinals, CEO Kakaire Derrick Samuel  said;

    ‘It’s not going to be an easy game. It’s a game that will build confidence in our players and show what they are capable of.  It is a knockout competition, therefore, we have to use the only opportunity of eliminating our rivals to defend the  Cup’

    UCU Lady Cardinals defeated She Corporates in the 2nd edition final 2-0 last season in Sheema District to win their .

    In the other big matches, FUFA Elite league rivals Kampala Queens and Isra Soccer Academy will play each other for the third time this season, She Corporates host Ajax Queens while Mutesa I Royal University was drawn with Lango Queens.

    1st edition winners Olila Women team will play host to Amuria High School in Soroti.

    The draws for Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 fixtures were held during the weekly press conference on Wednesday morning at FUFA House Mengo.

    Club officials from the qualified 16 teams witnessed the draws that were conducted by  former Uganda Cranes star Abbey Nasur, Stanbic’s Sonia Karamagi ( Senior Marketing Manager) and FUFA Club Licencing Manager Ivan Kintu Bayige.

    Bayige confirmed that;

    ‘There wasn’t seeding of teams just like it has been since the start of the 2018/19 season in this competition. Matches that end in a draw after normal time,  the winner will be decided on kicks from the penalty mark’

    While speaking at the event, Abbey Nassur commended FUFA and the sponsors Stanbic for recognising him and urged the current players to be disciplined to achieve their goals because football is a job now.

    ‘I thank FUFA for recognizing me to be part of the event and i appreciate the sponsors for the funds they inject in the competition. We used to play Uganda Cup at no cost. But such funds from the sponsors are good for the welfare of Clubs and players’ said Nassur

    Nassur is a former KCCA, Express & Prisons player in the 70s and 80s.

    External Relations: FUFA extends administrative and Management courses to South Sudan FA

    A delegation of local football Secretaries and some members of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) are in buoyant mood upon completion of the Football Administration and Management Course (FAMACO level II) at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

    The course was organized at the request of the South Sudan FA to FUFA with the clearance of both CAF and FIFA.  

     

    The participants were trained and equipped with relevant football management and administration skills.

    The Ag. Secretary General of SSFA Anthony John Lauro expressed his gratitude at the end of the course.

     ‘I thank FUFA for being a generous ‘Big’ brother who is always willing to share priceless knowledge and skills with its ‘young brother’ South Sudan by agreeing to organize such training that will spur the development of football in our country to greater levels’

    FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha who represented  FUFA president Moses Magogo at the closing ceremony urged the participants not to be mean with the knowlege and skills acquired but to share with the rest of their colleagues who did not attend such that they can collectively improve the level of football in their country.

    ‘I bring you greetings from our FUFA President who really wanted to be part of this course but was away on official duties. However I want to re-echo his message and the instructors that this knowledge and skills acquired here will only be relevant if you share it and put it to use’ said Mugisha

    The course modules covered areas Development Programmes, Marketing, Communications, finance management, football organization, competitions, strategic planning, human resource management, football governance, events and match organization, drawing of long term projects for football development. The instructors were Justus Mugisha, Rogers Byamukama, Humphrey Mandu, Ali Mwebe, Decolas Kiiza and Ahmed Hussein.

    Uganda will face neighbours South Sudan in the first round of the qualifiers of the 2020 Total African Nations Championship(CHAN).

    This comes after the draws for the biennial tournament were held on Wednesday at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

    Like the format has been in the previous editions, teams will play qualifiers in their respective regions. This means Uganda and her neighbours are in Central Eastern Africa zone.

    Uganda Cranes and the Bright Stars of South Sudan faced off in the qualifiers of the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship and the former won 5-1 on aggregate.

    The first leg in Juba ended goalless but Uganda won the return leg at StarTimes stadium 5-1 courtesy of Derrick Nsibambi and Paul Mucurezi(scored four goals).

    The winner on aggregate between Uganda and South Sudan will face either Rwanda or Somalia in the second and final qualifying round.

    The dates for the game against South Sudan are yet to be confirmed. Ethiopia will host the 2020 Total African Nations Championship.

    Uganda has qualified to the final tournament four times failing only once in 2009 at the inception of the championship.

    The tournament features only footballers that play in the domestic leagues of each country  on the African continent.

    Sponsorship & Marketing: NIC Holdings Limited renews pact with FUFA, spreads wings over to Uganda Cranes, FUFA Juniors League and FUFA Drum

    National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Holdings Limited has on Thursday, 24th January 2019 unveiled a new and better insurance sponsorship package for Federation of Uganda Football Associations.

    The package was unveiled at the NIC Headquarters in Kampala, for the Uganda Cranes, the FUFA Junior League and FUFA Drum Tournament.

    In attendence was a delegation from FUFA led by the President Eng. Moses Magogo, flanked by the chairperson of sponsorship and marketing committee, Rogers Byamukama.

    NIC’s Managing Director Bayo Folayan, NIC Holdings company secretary Elias Edu and Jocelyn Ucanda represented the Insurance company.

    ‘This package is in line with NIC’s continued support of sports in Uganda, we believe the youth are the future of the country and that is why this sponsorship goes a long way to support the efforts of government in the area of youth and sports development. Our vision in supporting football in Uganda is to create an enabling environment for our footballers so that they too can compete on a global platform and rank among the best in the world’ Bayo stated.

    It is an improvement over the previous contract with FUFA. The new contract covers all players, coaching staff and team doctors against death and injuries resulting into permanent disability sustained while on official engagements.

    It also covers incidences during training as well as travels to and from matches and burial arrangements in case death occurs.

    The FUFA President, Eng. Magogo expressed gratitude for NIC Holdings’s sponsorship since 2008 for football and sports in general, particularly Netball which has managed to represent the country at the World Cup.

    Refereeing: 44 participants complete Beginners’ course in Kabale

    Uganda has 1256 registered referees as per FUFA’s records across all grades (I, II and III). However many more are set to join the same ranks after completion of the recent beginners’ courses in Kabale and Kampala.

    Kabale has become the hub for capacity building as three coaching courses and now for refereeing have been organized in the district under two years.

    The referees underwent a seven day course conducted by Instructor Samuel Egesa (FUFA Referees Manager) examiner Ali Tomusange (2002 FIFA World cup referee).

    The budding referees were taken through oral, theory, written and practical sessions which culminated into exams on the final.

    ‘It was nice to have such a big class of referees. We thank the partners especially Soccer2Unite who have done a wonderful job in changing the lives of many football lovers in Western Uganda. This is the fourth time Soccer2Unite are supporting these courses’ said course coordinator Andrew Amanya.

    National referees for retreat in Mbarara

    Over 140 referees will undergo medical and fitness tests in Mbarara with the aim of selecting match officials for the resumption of the 2nd round matches across the top flight Leagues for men and women. The selected referees will also handle the FUFA Women Elite League FUFA Big League and Uganda cup.

    The Chairman of Uganda Football Referees Association Ronnie Kalema confirmed to fufa.co.ug that the medical tests will be conducted at Mbarara High school (On Thursday 24th January 2019 at Midday) while the physical fitness tests at Kakyeka stadium on Friday 25th Jan 2019 starting 7 am.

    FUFA holds successful brain storming forum with Sports federations

    Federation of Uganda Football Federations (FUFA) on Wednesday, 23rd January 2019 successfully interacted with other sports federations in a brain storming session held at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

    In attendance were the Presidents, Chairmen and General Secretaries of the Sports Federations registered with National Council of sports, NCS acting general secretary Dr. Benard Patrick Ogwel (also represented the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni), Airtel Uganda officials led by the Managing Director Somaeskhar as well as the brand and communications manager Remmy Kisakye.

    The FUFA President, Eng Moses Magogo in his presentation highlighted the gradual progress of FUFA with a detailed narration of the rich history since inception in 1926.

    He also elucidated the 8 focus areas of Governance, Administration, Finance, Football Development, Infrastructure, Competitions, its Membership, Marketing and Communications.

    Some of the sports federations and associations that graced the historic forum included Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), Baseball and Soft Ball Association, Uganda Tennis Association (UTA), Uganda Rugby Union, Uganda Ludo Association (ULA), Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) among others.

    Rotaract Club of Kyengera honours Eng. Moses Magogo with a Vocational Service Award

    It is busy schedules always at the beginning of each week. However it was a different story on Monday evening for the historical FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and the football fraternity as a group of young professionals with the Rotaract Club of Kyengera recognised him with the Vocational Service Award at Valhalla Restaurant along Lumumba Avenue in Kampala.

    He was recognized for his outstanding and selfless service towards the development of Uganda’s football over the years.

    The FUFA President became the first high profile recipient of this award from the sports fraternity.

    The President of the Rotaract Club of Kyengera Annet Mary Nanziri said;

    ‘Every year we award the most outstanding persons in service.  The FUFA President has outstanding during his leadership as we have witnessed the 39 year jinx broken following Uganda Cranes qualification to the AFCON Finals in 2017.     FUFA to share success story with Sports Federations

    Federation of Uganda Football Federations (FUFA) has confirmed that a key note presentation will be made on Wednesday 23rd January 2019 to Sports Federations in Uganda about its success story over the years.

    The Presidents, Chairmen and General Secretaries of the Sports Federations registered with National Council of sports have been invited for the event that starts at 9am at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

    FUFA has also invited Officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports together with National Council of sports.

    ‘The Federation of Uganda Football Associations upholds the core values of oneness and teamwork hence finding it key to always cooperate with all other National sports Federations’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein

    ‘The event is aimed at bringing together all different Federation Presidents and General Secretaries for the purpose of interaction and sharing ideas. FUFA will also use this platform to share its experiences and success story’ added Hussein.

    FUFA has enjoyed a success story in various areas of Governance, Administration, Finance, Football Development, Infrastructure, Competitions, its Membership, Marketing and Communications which have turned out to be the federation’s key focus areas.

    The Uganda Cranes has already qualified for the AFCON Finals 2017 and 2019 while the Uganda U-17 Team will feature at the AFCON Finals U-17 to be hosted by Tanzania in April this year.

    The federation has also managed to secure land to construct a modern training facility in Rubaga at Kadiba and a stadium in Lugazi.

    I will drive slightly my energies this week on the beauty of purchasing and wearing an authentic sports gear-in this case the much cherished Uganda Cranes jersey.

    However, first I will drop a line on how the public is being derailed to believe that world over domestic football is firmly in the hands of clubs. Unfortunately that’s not true. Football Associations-in this case FUFA always gets at the forefront to guide and not dictate on how clubs should run their businesses. It is a mindset that will change gradually. Club football is not about an individual’s money but structures. All clubs are allowed to run their businesses freely. However clubs like KCCA FC and Vipers SC have embraced the FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda with success stories to talk about.

    The official FUFA Logo. No individual or company can use this logo without prior permission for commercial gains. Even for non commercial activities, clearance for the use of the logo must be sought first from FUFA.

    FUFA is the sole owner of the Uganda Cranes jersey. Under the Trademarks Act 2010, the federation managed to register its trademarks; FUFA Logo, Federation of Uganda Football Associations and its abbreviation FUFA. The local football clubs have also been encouraged to do so with their trademarks to avoid any future infringements on their logos.

    It is illegal for an individual or company to trade using FUFA’s registered trademarks as mentioned without prior permission from the owner for commercial gains. In a bid to protect the Uganda Cranes jersey, FUFA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a reputable kit manufacturer Mafro. They are the sole producers of the Uganda Cranes jerseys. The 8 Main Regional distributors will deal with the sales agents across the country from respective regions to help in selling the jersey. It is paramount for a football fan to know that loyalties from the sales of the Uganda Cranes jerseys will be passed on to the eight (8) Regional Football Associations. This requires for policing by both the football officials, distributors and sales agents at regional level.

    There’s no better way to show off your loyalty by wearing an authentic Uganda Cranes jersey that brings you respect and passion for your beloved country. Authentic jerseys are simply priceless. It goes without saying that when you buy an authentic Uganda Cranes soccer jersey, you’re getting something special. Signed or not, the authentic Uganda Cranes jerseys are valuable pieces of wearable history that you will treasure for a lifetime.

    However it all starts with the desire to know what one would like to buy. It calls for taste, fashion, passion and the satisfaction derived from wearing the Uganda Cranes jersey.

    But why do fans sometimes find themselves buying counterfeit National team jerseys?

    I have said it before, and I will say it again (it should be number one among them): in reasons why you should buy authentic soccer jerseys, showcasing your team respect outweighs them all.  Two values are attached to the Uganda Cranes jersey and why you should buy it; The shirt itself and then the FUFA logo embroidered on it hence making it a valuable item.

    The Uganda U-17 National team (Cubs) fell 2-0 away to the Burundi U-20 team during an international friendly match played at the Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore, Bujumbura on Tuesday afternoon.

    A goal in each half by Cedric Mavugo and Bienvenue Kanakimana gave the home side the victory.

    This is the first of the many planned build ups for the Uganda U-17 team preparing for the TOTAL AFCON U-17 finals that will be held in Tanzania come April 2019.

    Uganda Cubs’ first assistant coach Jackson Magera cited positives from the international build up.

    ‘Although we have lost the game, I am impressed by the performance of the team players.  There are many aspects technically and tactically that we have to improve upon especially how to defend well and convert the created chances. We shall continue to improve as the preparations for the TOTAL U-17 AFCON finals go on’ Magera stated after the game.

    The Uganda U17 football team (The Cubs) will travel to Bujumbura on Saturday evening for a friendly match with  Burundi on Tuesday 15thJanuary 2019.

    A 28 man contingent of twenty players and eight officials led by Executive Member Chrispus Kalibbala travelled by road and is expected to reach by Sunday morning.

    The 22 Ugandan referees at the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) level have received their badges on Saturday, 12 January 2019 at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga in Kampala.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo witnessed the hand over of the badges.

    Beach Soccer Referee Keneddy Kawagga Bazirio gets his badge from the FUFA Executive Committee member Rogers Byamukama. Kawagga is one of the new faces.

    In attendance also was the first Vice President at FUFA Justus Mugisha, FUFA Referees’ standing committee chairperson Ronnie Kalema,  FUFA Executive committee member and chairperson of the marketing commitee Rogers Byamukama and FUFA Football Development Director Ali Mwebe. The Vice Chairpseon of  FUFA Referees standing Committee Rosebell Rwamuyamba and Chaiperosn of UgandaFootball Refereees-Promotions and Assessment Amin Bosa Nkono were also in attendance.

    Mwebe communicated the key means that FUFA is undertaking to uplift the standard of refereeing in Uganda.
    ‘The FUFA refereeing department is working within all the means to protect the three key pillars; Integrity, fitness and performance. Development of referees now falls under the football development department. There is a development path way for the rise of referees, just like referees. We shall maintain the courses, medical and fitness tests which are mandatory as well starting French lessons for the international referees.’ Ali Mwebe.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has issued new guidelines on the distribution and selling of the Uganda Cranes jerseys.

    The Federation has noted with concern on the infringement of its registered, patented logos , commercial products including the Uganda Cranes jersey and has therefore come out to issue new guidelines that must be followed.

    While addressing the media on Wednesday, FUFA Deputy CEO Humphrey Mandu indicated that there are counterfeit jerseys on the market but warned the public to avoid buying such products.

    ‘We are aware that there are people who are illegally selling the Uganda Cranes jerseys. As you know, the Federation has patent rights to its properties and the national team Jersey is one of those’ he said before adding;

    ‘FUFA has an understanding with Mafro- the sole manufacturers of Uganda Cranes original and replica jerseys and thus FUFA remains the owner and sole importer of the Uganda Cranes jerseys and any other products related to the brand with the FUFA logo’

    Mandu stated that the Federation has opened the application process for willing distributors of Uganda Cranes jerseys. He indicated that every region of the country will have an authorised selling point/ distributor.

    ‘As FUFA, we are opening an application process for anyone willing to conduct business of selling the FUFA related products. We shall have one authorised distributor per region’

    The process will be conducted for a period of month( from Wednesday,9th January to 9th February 2019) with willing applicants formally writing to FUFA on sales@fufauganda.com

    In addition to having authorised distributors, FUFA has brought on board Busingye and Company Advocates who will oversee that the policy is enforced.

    ‘FUFA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Busingye and Co. Advocates who will be on top of the whole exercise to stop any dealings in fake Uganda Cranes jerseys’ stated the FUFA Deputy CEO.

    Norman Mbabazi who represented Busingye and Company Advocates during the press conference indicated that they will help the federation in making sure their brand is protected.

FUFA underwent rebranding and all the logos, names and features are all registered. In Uganda under the trademarks act, you can be imprisoned for selling what doesn’t belong to you. So we don’t want to ambush the public and that’s why we are making the sensitisation. Members of the public should know that the logos and design were created by some people and FUFA paid for that work. Therefore it’s wrong for one to go and duplicate our work without permission.     The new Uganda Cranes Jersey manufactured by Mafro and designed by Umar Mukasa, who emerged as the best in the designing competition set by FUFA was unveiled on 10th October 2018.

    Aiteo CAF Awards 2018: Uganda Cranes captain Onyango named on FIFPro Team of the Year

    Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain Dennis Onyango was named on the FIFPro Africa CAF team of the year.

    This was during the Aiteo CAF Awards 2018 held in Dakar, Senegal on the night of Tuesday, 8th January 2019 attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, President of Republic of Senegal Macky Sall and FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo.

    Onyango was once again inspirational for Uganda Cranes in the qualification to the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations, making it unbeaten with a game to spare and not conceding in as many as five matches.

    Onyango was present in Dakar to pick his award. FUFA CEO Edgar Watson led a strong delegation from Uganda at the awards that had Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre. FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was also in Dakar as CAF Executive Committee Member where he also attended the meeting that confirmed Egypt as this year’s hosts for the AFCON tournament.

    Meanwhile, Mauritania was named the CAF national team of the year, coming ahead of Uganda Cranes and Madagascar, the other nominated teams.

    Uganda Cranes coach, Miya react to news about Egypt as hosts of AFCON 2019

    Egypt has been named the new hosts of the AFCON 2019 Finals. The announcement was made by CAF on Tuesday morning in Dakar, Senegal.

    Egypt saw off South Africa-the other country that had submitted a bid to host the soccer show piece after Cameroon were stripped of the hosting rights.

    The 2019 AFCON Finals will have 24 teams-the first time CAF has organized a tournament of teams with such a figure.

    The news of the new hosts found Uganda Cranes Head coach Sebastien Desabre on his way to Senegal for the CAF Awards.

    ‘It is good news because I like Egypt. The fans in Egypt are fantastic. For the Uganda Cranes fans, it is near in terms of travel. I am happy but I hope the draw puts us in Ismailia’

    Uganda Cranes star player Faruku Miya is a happy man as well.

    Uganda has already qualified unbeaten but with a game in hand against Tanzania to be played in March.
