    The Uganda Cranes team has commenced the training drills at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday in preparation for two upcoming build up matches against Sao Tome and Prinicpe as well as Malawi.

    Not even the afternoon heavy pour could deter the determined crop of players majority foreign based.

    Twenty (20) players turned up for the one hour session that included limbering drills, short sprints and a lot of stretching as the goalkeepers Dennis Onyango and Salim Jamal were taken through the goalkeeping routines by stand-in coach Sadic Wassa who is deputizing Fred Kajoba (Kajoba is away in the US for further training).

    Head coach Sebastien Desabre hailed the commitment of the players and vowed to fine tune the team in preparation for the two build ups.

    ‘I am very happy for the commitment that the players have shown in training’ Desabre noted.

    Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, while addressing the media after the training expressed his overwhelming joy working under the new coach for the first time and he expects to learn a lot from him.

    ‘Training has been good. We have been in body conditioning for this first session. It is good to work under the coach for the very first time. He has already briefed us of his philosophy and approach for the game. We shall continue to work with him and understand him better’ Wasswa noted.

    More foreign based players (Alex Kakuba, Geofrey Kizito and William Luwagga Kizito) are expected to join the team camp at Ivy’s Hotel, Wakaliga as soon as possible.

    Uganda Cranes will take on Sao Tome and Principe this Saturday (24th March 2018) before hosting Malawi on Tuesday, 27th March 2018.

    Both matches are at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    Uganda Cranes will optimally utilize the forth coming international break with two high profile build up matches lined up.

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has secured two international build ups against West Africans Sao Tome and Principe on Saturday, 24th March 2018 at Mandela National Stadium and against Malawi on Tuesday, 27th March 2018 at the same venue.

    ‘These matches will further help me take a critical look at many players i have not yet got the chance to look especially those foreign based players. These matches will help prepare the team ahead of the next round of the AFCON 2019 qualifiers which will both be at home. I am very glad for the great effort of the federation (FUFA) and our sister countries whom we shall play’ Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre said.

    Most summoned players led by the team captain Denis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns for the two international friendly matches are already in the country.

    The team which is camped at Ivy’s Hotel in Wakaliga starts training at Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Tuesday afternoon.

    Africa Women Qualifiers: Uganda Crested Cranes squad summoned

    The head coach of the Uganda National women team Faridah Bulega has released 30 names of players set to start training on Tuesday morning at Namboole stadium (Outer pitch) for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya later early next month.

    Both countries will face off on 4th April for the 1st leg in Machakos and 8th April return leg at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

    The squad has players featuring in the FUFA Women Elite League. Bulega will be assisted by Edward Kaziba. While Magala James is the goalkeeping coach, Paul Ssali is the team Coordinator. Aloy Byamukama is the media officer while Nalwadda Prossy is the kits Manager.

    The 2018 tournament will be held in Ghana from November 17 to December 1st.

    The tournament will also double as the qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup where the top three teams qualify.

    When match day two of the FUFA Drum tournament was successfully held on Sunday, 18th March 2018, there were two key positives realized among others.

    First, more people across the various provinces of the country have continued to wholesomely embrace this inter-provinces tournament.

    Secondly, goals, just like on match day one were netted with a total of 20 goals scored in the eight matches.

    Busoga registered the biggest victory on the day, winning 4-0 away to Sebei Province at the Kiprotich stadium in Kapchorwa district.

    BUL Football Club midfielder Daniel Shabena opened the scoring in the 14th minute.

    Another Bul player Amis Tibita (45th minute), second half substitute Richard Wandyaka (75th minute) and Joel Madondo (78th) netted the goals.

    At the Star Times stadium, Lugogo, home side Kampala overcame Bunyoro 3-1.

    Kampala Province’s goals were scored by Soana’s Willy Kavuma as early as the third minute, Vipers’ Tony Odur (45th) and second half substitute Daniel ‘Muzeyi’ Sserunkuma, also of Vipers Sports Club in the 80th minute.

    Bunyoro’s consolation came from Onduparaka newly signed striker Malish Jamal in the 48th minute.

    In Gulu at the newly renovated Pece Stadium, thousands of passionate football fans including the King of Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, chairperson of the FUFA Drum tournament Rogers Byamukama, among other personalities graced the match between Acholi and Buganda.

    Ironically, this match failed to produce any goal scored.

    The match between Kigezi and Lango failed to produce an out right winner since the two Provinces played to a one all draw at the Kabale Municipal Stadium.

    Faruku Osama put Lango ahead in the 61st minute and the home team rallied gallantly to find the equalizer through their captain David Ndihabwe (of Express) with virtually the last kick of the game.

    Tooro Province registered their first win of the campaign, overcoming Karamoja 2-0 at the Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal.

    Soana striker Steven Ategeka (7th minute) and URA midfielder Nicholas Kagaba’s goal at the death of the match earn maximum points for Fred Muhumuza’s coached team.

    Bugisu and Teso shared the spoils in a 4 goal thriller played at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.

    Kirinya-Jinja S.S striker Musa Esenu and Bright Stars’ John Kokas Opejo scored for Teso Province as KCCA defender Paul Musamali and goalkeeper James Alitho of Vipers Sports Club were on target for the home side.

    At the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo, West Nile out-muscled Ankole 2-0 before hundreds of people.

    Onduparaka Captain and defender Rashid Toha gave the home side the lead after 36 minutes.

    On form Kirinya-Jinja S.S’ Fred Amaku continued with his goal scoring exploits with the second goal on 53 minutes.

    Rwenzori and Bukedi drew one all. Godfrey Yoningom put visiting Bukedi ahead in the 10th minute.

    Nyamityobora winger (on loan from URA) Robert Mukongotya canceled the advantage seven minutes later with a well drilled equalizer.

    I take the moment to congratulate KCCA FC for being the first Ugandan Club to reach the Group Stages of th e CAF Club Champions League.
    I am super excited for the following reasons;
    1.This has enhanced our case of asking for the 3rd slot for clubs to represent Uganda on the Continent.
    The UPL League Champion, the Uganda Cup Holders and the runners up in the league could get the opportunity to represent the country
    2. The fans, players, coaches and management are getting continental experience which will rub off in the UPL
    3. The money that comes into KCCA FC is football money which will trickle down to Ugandan football beyond KCCA FC
    4. Demonstration that there is no shortcut to professionalization in order to achieve sports success.
    It was all jubilation as KCCA qualified for the CAF Champions League group stages

    Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club overcame St George FC from Ethiopia 1-0 in the return leg of the CAF Champions League at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala on Saturday.

    FUFA Drum Tournament: Eight Exciting games lined up for match day two

    The loud terrifying sound of the Drum will once again be heard vibrating across Uganda as the ‘FUFA Drum’ tournament match day comes into force on Sunday, 18th March 2018.

    There are eight games lined up on the day in the different corners of the country.

    In Gulu, Acholi and Buganda lock horns at the Pece Stadium in Gulu.

    Acholi won 2-0 away to Lango in the opening game against rivals Lango in Lira on match day one whilst Buganda fell at home 1-0 to Kigezi in Masaka.

    Bugisu hosts Teso at the Mbale Municipal Stadium and Kampala will be home to Bunyoro at the Star Times Stadium in Lugogo.

    Kigezi, who condemned Buganda in the opening match will entertain Lango at the Kabale Municipal Stadium.

    Meanwhile, Rwenzori plays host to Bukedi at the Nyakasanga stadium in Kasese, Sebei faces Busoga at the Kiprotich stadium and Tooro will be home to face Karamoja at the Buhinga stadium in Fort portal.

    The last game on the menu will see West Nile play Ankole at the Bar Okoro Stadium in Zombo District.

    West Nile was held to a one all draw in their opening match away to Karamoja in Moroto.

    Ankole won at home 2-1 against visiting Tooro Province at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.

    For the record, Busoga hosted the official opening match against Bugisu last month at the Kyabazinga stadium in Jinja where the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga was the chief guest.

    The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, Busoga Kingdom Premier Minsiter Dr Muvawala, Uganda Cranes head coach Sebestien Desabre, FUFA Executive Committee members, delegates, staff were all part of the hundreds of fans in the terraces.

    The tournament is played along the theme ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry’.

    Bayo, Nsibambi, Lwanga called up for Uganda Cranes duty

    Uganda Cranes Head coach Sebastien Desabre has confirmed that three new faces have been called up to the National team ahead of international fixtures due this later this month.

    Derrick Nsibambi who plays for Ugandan champions KCCA FC and Fahad Bayo with Buildcon FC in Zambia have replaced Faruk Miya and Edrisa Lubega in the squad.

    Vipers’ Taddeo Lwanga has also been added on to the initial list summoned a week ago bringing the total number of players in the squad to 24.

    ‘Miya and Lubega will not be available for duty as they need to finalise with documentation of their work permits where they are playing from. However the coach will continue monitoring the progress of these players at their respective clubs’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    Uganda Cranes will enter camp on Monday 19th March 2018 for two friendlies to be played on 24th and 27th March.

    RADO suspends Senkoomi

    A male footballer by the name of Samuel Senkoomi has been handed a two year ban by RADO for use of prohibited substances.

    Senkoomi who was tested on 24th October, 2016 when still a player at Express FC had presence of prohibited substances or its metabolites or markers in his urine sample.

    A substance known as Furosemide on the WADA’s prohibited lists of drugs was found in the sample.

    RADO’s assessment of the player’s degree of fault took a decision to reduce the ban from four years to two years with effect from 15th November, 2017.

    However RADO has taken into account the provisional suspension time served by Senkoomi since 11th January, 2017. In view of this, Senkoomi will be suspended up to 11th December, 2018.

    Senkoomi is notified by RADO of his right to appeal the decision.

    Round of 16 Games – 21st and 22nd March 2018

    The Stanbic Cup round of 16 draws were held at the Headquarters of Stanbic Cup on Friday morning.

    FUFA Competitions committee chairperson and Executive Committee member, Hamid Juma, FUFA Competitions committee Director Hajjati Aisha Nalule, famous legends of the game William Nkemba, Fred ‘Gaaso’ Mukasa and Tom Lwanga graced the colour draws.

    They were joined by Stanbic bank’s head of marketing, Daniel Ogong, club coaches and other FUFA officials.

    ‘As a federation, we are very happy with the way the round of 32 has been played and was conducted. Most teams played attacking and attractive football which is the reason why so many goals were scored. We expect many surprises since this is knock out football. It is getting tighter and tighter per stage. This kind of football has continued to reignite the passion of football fans back to the stadia’ Hamid Juma noted.

    In the games proper, reigning champions Kampala Capital Authroity City (KCCA) will travel to Soana, UPDF hosts Proline, KJT will face BUL, Busula against Synergy, Mbarara City with Kansai Plascon and Kitara up against Seeta United.

    ‘The Stanbic Uganda Cup has lived up to all our expectations and a lot and more, so far we have witnessed many exciting matches and a number of major surprises including the record 10 times champions Express Football Club being knocked out by the FUFA Big league side Kitara 4-3 on penalties. Such a result is testament to the magic of the Uganda Cup which allows even the smallest teams the chance to dream big and believe they can go all the way to the finals.     Stanbic Uganda Cup: Sc Villa defeats Bright Stars to qualify for round of 16

    George Senkaba and Godfrey Lwesibawa were on target as Sc Villa Jogoo got the better of Bright Stars FC 2-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Tuesday afternoon at Mutessa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

    The Jogoos raced into an early lead on 17 minutes by Senkaba before Lwesibawa doubled the score line 7 minutes later.

    The result means that SC Villa have got the better of Bright Stars on two occasions this season (winning 1-0 in the League in Masaka and today’s victory).

    The other meeting ended in a 1-1 draw last Saturday.

    It was a bad day for Bright Stars FC in office as they also saw their star midfielder Moses Okot shown marching orders.

    CAF Symposium: Women football will never be the same-Ugandan representatives

    Ugandan representatives at the CAF Women football Symposium in Marrakech, Morocco are optimistic the sport will grow in leaps and bounds with immediate effect.

    Woman representative on the FUFA Executive Ms. Agnes Mugena and FUFA Deputy CEO Humphrey Mandu together with National team player Jean Sseninde are in Morocco for the two day Symposium that ends today.

    Sseninde attended the Symposium at the invitation of Africa soccer governing body CAF. Active and former players, referees, coaches, media and experts in various areas of the game from FIFA and other Confederations were invited to take part.

    It is the first ever CAF Women’s Football Symposium under the theme ‘Raising Our Game’ is aimed at taking women football on the continent to another level.

    ‘Such symposiums help understand the way football is governed. Women football has many challenges and we are sure that the resolutions from this symposium will turn the game into the best around the continent’ said Mugena

    ‘It is a nice symposium that will change the game soon. Women are so passionate about the game and the sport needs such people to support all the time. The discussion have been very good and with interesting contributions from various stakeholders’ said FUFA Deputy CEO Mandu.

    The Crested Cranes star player Sseninde was full of praise for the organisers of the Symposium.

    ‘I have learnt a lot from this women’s symposium. I hope that all we have learnt can be put into practice then women’s football will go even far in our country. I am Very happy to have received a special invite by CAF as African player’ said Sseninde.

    The participants were divided into 7 working groups under their specialties to discuss on the topics below;
    1. How to expand the practice of Women’s Football
    2. Developing the technical formation of the trainers, referees & instructor
    3. Means of development of sponsorship for Women’s football
    4. Competitions: Realities and Perspective
    5. Governance concept in women’s football
    6. Role of women’s football in gender promotion and socialization
    7. Place of Media & Communication in women’s football

    The resolutions of the various working groups will be presented to the CAF Executive Committee for review and implementation.

    FUFA Communications Department has confirmed that the Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre will hold a press conference on Wednesday 7th March 2018 at 10am at FUFA House, Mengo.

    The Frenchman will release information about the National A Team-Uganda Cranes.

    ‘Sebastien and his assistant Matia Lule will address the media on matters about the National teams and future international engagements. They have programmes to communicate to the media for dissemination to the public’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    Sebastien has categorically stated that he wants to use the next International break to be of great value to the National team players.

    The FIFA World Cup Trophy arrives in Uganda

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was among the high profile dignitaries who received the FIFA World Cup trophy at Entebbe International Airport on Monday morning.

    The trophy was later taken State House Entebbe for the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to officially welcome the FIFA Delegation that is accompanying the trophy that is on the world tour covering 51 countries.

    It is the second time the FIFA World Cup trophy is coming to Uganda, with the first opportunity way back in 2009.

    The football family was represented by FUFA President, FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and Uganda Cranes CHAN Sqiuad Captain Bernard muwanga.

    The FUFA Competitions Department has confirmed that no matches of The FUFA Drum will be played on the same day when KCCA FC hosts St George of Ethiopia in the retrun leg 2nd round of the CAF Champions League.

    Four fixtures had been lined up for 17th March but have all been moved to 18th March, 2018.

    The affected fixtures that were to be played on 17th March are;  Sebei vs Busoga, Bugisu vs Teso, Acholi vs Buganda and Kigezi vs Lango  but will now be played the following day.

    The fixtures for 18th March are as follows after the change; (All Kick off at 4pm)

    FUFA Football Summit confirmed for 12th March

    FUFA Football Summit 

    Venue: Serene Suites in Mutundwe

    Date: Monday 12th March, 2018

    Time: 9am-5pm

    It will be the first of its kind in Uganda for a summit of this magnitude to be organised by FUFA.

    In a communication sent to various stakeholders partly reads;

    There will be presentation of well researched status in selected aspects of football development by experts, group discussions from which ideas will be drawn for recommendations to FUFA. The Federation shall later come up with the football development strategy’

    According to the FUFA Football Development Director Ali Mwebe, 6 topics will be discussed during the summit.

    ‘In line with our Vision and Mission, FUFA has observed the need to improve many aspects of the game. In this regard, a one-day FUFA Football Summit is being organized under the theme  ‘Football Development’ with the main goal of improving the quality of the game’ said Mwebe.

    ‘We have invited coaches of the teams in the Azam Uganda Premier League, personnel from the football youth progammes in Uganda. We have also extended invitation to the Government and corporate world.’ added the German trained football development Director Mwebe.

    Stanbic Uganda Cup: Tibita the hero as BUL makes it to round of 16

    Amis Tibita was on target again for his club BUL just two days after leading his Busoga Province Team to a 3-0 resounding win over Bugisu Province in Jinja.

    Tibita a youngster with the Uganda U-20 National team scored on Tuesday in the round of 32 as his club BUL FC defeated FUFA Big League side Nyamityobora at the round of 32 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Kakindu Stadium.

    Tibita who scored in Saturday’s win over Bugisu Province got his club’s goal with 20 minutes left on the clock.

    BUL have now advanced to the round of 16 with the date for the draw yet to be released by the FUFA Competitions Department.

    Only one match is left in the round of 32 as Sc Villa Jogoo will play host to Bright Stars FC at Mutessa II Stadium following request by the Jogoos to change the venue from Recreational Ground Masaka as there are activities set to be held in the same stadium.

    The date for the match has also been brought forward by a day as the initial fixture (7th March, 2018) would not give Bright Stars FC ample time to plan for their league fixture away to Masavu on 9th March.

    The winner of the Uganda Cup represents the Country in the CAF Confederation Cup.
