Weekend resultsSaturday, 16th DecemberWestern United 2-1 She CorporateEastern Heroes 0-1 Isra AcademySunday, 17th DecemberOlila High School 4-1 Isra AcademyThe first round of the 2017/18 Fufa Women Elite League successfully ended over the weekend with three games played across different grounds.Western United registered their first win this season with a hard-fought 2-1 win against She Corporate in the game played at Kabwohe playground.After going six games without a point, Western United defied odds to condemn visiting She Corporate to a 2-1 defeat on Saturday.A goal apiece from Halima Alishe and Sawuyah “Sanya” Babirye were enough to spur the Mbarara based side to victory despite She Corporate pulling one back through Aisha Nsmubiru.Despite the win, Western United remained grounded bottom of Victoria group on three points while She Corporate ended the first round in fourth place on six points.In Elizabeth group, Olila High School Women Football Club ensured they extended their perfect run this season picking the 7th win in as many games.Airtel FUFA Female player of the year Fazilah Ikwaput struck twice to help Olila defeat Isra Academy 4-1 in the game played in Soroti on Sunday.This meant, Ikwaput took her goal tally to nine and currently leads the scoring chart. The other goals for Olila came through Norah Alupo and Ritah Nabbosa while Fauziah Najjemba got Isra’s consolation.Olila ended the first round with maximum points ( 21 in seven games), the only team to attain the feat this season.On Saturday, Isra Academy had edged Eastern Heroes 1-0 with Najjemba netting the lone strike of the game.The second round is expected to resume in February next year and the top two teams in either group qualify for the playoff phase to determine the champion. -

USPA, FUFA President’s XI to face off in a curtain raiser match on Wednesday, 20th December 2017 in Njeru
With just hours to the The FUFA Drum tournament launch on Wednesday, the respective team officials are expected to start arriving at the FUFA Technical Center on Monday evening in preparation for the orientation course.
The orientation course is slated for the 19th and 20th December 2017 at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
According to the detailed programme released by the tournament organizing committee, the respective team officials (three per team) from the 16 provinces in Uganda are expected to check in at the FUFA Technical center on Monday evening, with the orientation programme kicking off on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m
This newly created football tournament will be played among the 16 provinces in Uganda, starting in January 2018.
‘As FUFA, we know the value attached to the FUFA Drum tournament. This is the reason we have given it enough planning before it kicks off. Each of 16 provincial teams will be represented by three officials each. Reporting for the officials is Monday evening ahead of the training programme for Tuesday at 8 a.m. The training shall be for two days with the official launch on Wednesday. There will also be an official curtain raiser match between FUFA XI captained by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA)’ Noted the FUFA Ahmed Hussein Communications Manager.
Competition Format
The competition shall be played using a mixed format of 4 Groups composed of 4 Teams.
In each group, each team will play 3 matches at home and 3 matches away.
The top 2 teams in each group will proceed to the 2 legged-quarter final played on a home-away basis.
The semifinals will also be played on a-home-away basis while the finals will be 1-leg match at a predetermined location.

Following a resolution by the of the 93rd FUFA Ordinary General Assembly and the 13th FUFA Executive Committee directive to formulate the Competition, the FUFA Inter- Provinces Competition was officially introduced to the general public during a special press conference held at FUFA House in Kampala on 18th October 2017.
The Federation introduced this football tournament aimed at taking the game to the masses based on the 16 Provinces in Uganda.
It will be run and managed by official FUFA regulations.
FUFA will meet the cost of the teams in the areas of accommodation, transport, individual and team winners’ Prizes, trophies and medals plus costs of match officials including the competition and training balls.
The tournament will be played from January to October with dates gazetted as Match Days and in the Independence week of Uganda we expect to be playing our final match
The minimum qualification for coaches to handle these teams is CAF C License holders. The masses must enjoy quality football

Uganda Cranes finish third at 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup
2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup:
Final: Kenya 2 (3) – 2 (2) Zanzibar
Third Place play off Match: Zanzibar 1-2 Uganda Cranes
Uganda Cranes settled for third place at the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup championship.
This was after a hard fighting show when the CECAFA record winners (with 14 titles) recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 against Burundi in the third place play off match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
Pierre Kwizera’s 23 minute opener was neutralized by Ibrahim Sadam Juma’s brace in the second half.
Sadam’s first goal arrived in the 48th minute with a well timed volley off Nelson Senkatuka’s assist.
The second goal and the match winner was a perfectly curled free-kick on 75 minutes.
Uganda finish third for the 7th time since the tournament inception in 1926.
The other years when Uganda Cranes took bronze were 1983, 1984, 1987, 1991, 2007 and lately 2010.
Kenya won their 7th title after overcoming Zanzibar 3-2 in post match penalty kicks. Normal time ended 2 goals each.
The Uganda Cranes delegation will return home on Monday.

COSAFA U-20: Uganda Hippos settles for fourth position

Uganda National Under 20 side settled for third place at the 2017 Mopani Copper COSAFA U-20 Championships in Zambia
The Hippos lost 3-1 to Egypt in the third place play off match played at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.
Shaban Muhammed scored the consolation for Uganda as he also finished as the tournament top scorer.
Roshdi Ashraf scored a brace in the 19th and 59th minutes before Abdelrahman Amr’s 90th minute winner.

Muhammed Shaban with the Egyptian captain Shaban had scored the equalizer a minute to the mandatory half time break.
Uganda Hippos head coach Mathias Lule praised the organizers of this tournament for the opportunity of inviting the Ugandan team, FUFA for granting the chance, the technical team as well as the players for the brave fight throughout the duration of the tourney.

‘In a special way, i would love to thank the organizers of COSAFA U-20 championship for inviting us. This tournament is a developmental event and we have learnt a lot. I also thank FUFA, Technical team and my players for the enormous effort’ Lule stated.
Muhammed Shaban finished as top scorer with 4 goals.
The tournament was won by South Africa who beat Lesotho 2-1 in the well contested final.
Last year, Zambia were the champions.
Uganda’s delegation returns on Monday.

CECAFA 2017: Uganda Cranes 1-2 Zanzibar match report
CECAFA SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP 2017:

Uganda Cranes bowed out of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup championship in Kenya on Friday evening.
The CECAFA record winners (with 14 titles) lost in the semi finals to Zanzibar 2-1 at the Moi Sports Complex in Kisumu.

Uganda Cranes players celebrate the equalizer from Joseph Nsubuga Derrick Nsibambi’s 28th minute had cancelled Abdul-Azizi Makame’s opener on 22 minutes before the Islanders restored their lead through Juma Mohammed Issa’s well struck kick from the penalty mark.
Uganda finished the game with 10 men following a sending off for substitute Joseph Nsubuga who had committed a professional foul.
Nsubuga had replaced defender Shafik Bakaki in the first half.

Uganda U-20 team bowed out of the Mopanu Copper Cosafa Under 20 Championship at the semi final stage.
After a goal-less draw in normal time, Lesotho triumphed 6-5 in post match penalties at the Nkana Stadium on Friday.
Geofrey Wasswa, Shafiq Kagimu, Julius Poloto, Pius Obuya and Allan Okello managed to score their kicks with success.
Mujahid Ogama missed his chance.

TOTAL CAF Champions League 2018: KCCA draws CNaPS from Madagascar
On Wednesday, 13th December 2017, the draws for the two CAF inter-club competitions for the upcoming year 2018 were held at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
2016/17 Azam Uganda Premier league champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) will face Madagascar champions CNaPS in the preliminary round of the 2018 Total CAF Champions league.
CNaPS will host the first leg between February 9th -11th 2018 as the return leg will happen between February 16-18th 2018.
Should KCCA progress past CNaps over the two legs, they await the winner between Ethiopia’s St George or South Sudan’s Al Salam Wau.

Uganda will not be represented in the Total CAF Confederation cup 2018.
During the year 2017, KCCA initially played in the Total Champions League before they were dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Education: Media course gets underway at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru
The first ever FUFA Media course has officially kicked off on a sound footing at the Federation of Uganda Football Associations Technical Center in Njeru, Buikwe on Wednesday.
At least 50 journalists with expertise in football reporting are part of the four day course meant to equip and further harness the skills of the journalists (Online reporters, Written Press, photo journalists, radio, Television and Senior editors).
The journalists reported at Njeru on Tuesday evening and held the orientation session as guided by the FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

Participants during the theory session This is a momentous opportunity for FUFA to host such a course specifically for the media.
The media remains a key partner and stake holder in the development of the beautiful game.
As FUFA, we are glad that this course has been well attended and we believe it will further streamline the development of the game in the country
Course content:
The course modules are; FUFA and its Development Programmes, CAF and its Development Programmes, FIFA and its Development Programmes, Administration and Finance, Club Management, FUFA Statutes-Regulations and Decisions, FUFA Competitions, Event Management, General Management, Planning, Refereeing, Rights and Marketing, Communications and Fans’ engagement strategies.
The FUFA President, who is a Certified FIFA Instructor Eng. Moses Magogo kicked off the seassion with History of FUFA.
The other Instructors lined up for the course are; Justus Mugisha (FUFA 1st Vice President and FIFA Instructor), Edgar Watson (FUFA CEO), Kiiza Decolas (FUFA Finance Director), Sam Mpiima (CAF Instructor), (FUFA Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Humphrey Mandu, Ronnie Kalema (Chairperson of Uganda Football Referees Association-UFRA and FUFA Executive Member), Geofrey Odur Ojok (Chairperson of the FUFA Legal committee), Jackson Nyiima (FUFA Education Officer) and Bashir Mutyaba (FUFA Youth Development Officer).

Besides the theory thesis on the different topics, the participants are also undertaking practical sessions on different match situations, pre and post match customs as well as internal matches amongst the participants.

Search for Uganda Cranes coach: Kalusha Bwalya arrives in Uganda
One of the members on the FUFA Technical panel Kalusha Bwalya searching for the next Uganda Cranes coach has arrived in the country.
Kalusha was named to head the 5 man panel that will guide the FUFA Executive on the next coach following the resignation of former Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic.
Kalusha Bwalya was received at FUFA House in Mengo on Tuesday morning by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and FUFA CEO Edgar Watson.

FUFA Media Course 2017: List of Participants released
Following communication last week in regard to FUFA Media course for football journalists from 12th-15th December 2017 at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru, plans have been finalised to host the participants.
The Communication to Uganda Sports Press Association(USPA) and Other Media Houses was signed off by the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson.
‘FUFA brings to your attention that this Course will climax with the certification of participants who will officially be captured into the FUFA/FIFA Connect databank’
‘Therefore all participants are urged to report at the venue by 8am (Wednesday 13/12/2017) in Njeru. Failure to adhere to this requirement, will lead to loss of the slot allocated to that particular person;
The Communcation further reads;
‘The Participants are required to carry training kits (football boots, canvas shoes) and gadgets like laptops, radio recorders, videos and photo cameras as practical sessions will be conducted during the course. No training allowances will be given to participants’
FUFA has provided transport to pick the participants from FUFA House on Tuesday 12th December, 2017 at 1pm to travel to Njeru.

FUFA President meets Members of Standing Committees
FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and his Executive have on Monday morning met members of various standing committees at FUFA House, Mengo. It is the first time in his second term of office for the FUFA President to hold such meetings. Magogo was re-elected FUFA President on 5th August 2017 in Masindi.

He briefed the members on the general guidelines and procedure of how the Committees operate.

Development Committee during their meeting The 14 Committees will hold a total of 42 meetings with some superseding others depending on the internal activities at the Secretariat.
‘The set meetings are standard but we can’t do away with situational and emergency meetings according to the needs available’ added the FUFA President.
Competitions Committee meeting at FUFA House Eng. Magogo further called upon members of the various committees to appreciate the digital era by convening online meetings and also write down their ideas, present them to the Committee Secretaries (designated FUFA Staff by the CEO) to include them on the agenda for discussion when a physical meeting is set.

On Monday, the FUFA Competitions Committee, Development Committee, Safety and Security met in the morning while the International Match Organising Committee (IMOC) and Players’ Status Committee in the afternoon.

There is no Muhammed Shaban because of suspension. Therefore, the team captain for the day is Julius Poloto, Shaban’s deputy.
Victor Matovu and striker Hamisi Tibita make their first starts in the championship.
Uganda needs a point from the game to be assured of a semi final slot.

FUFA Mourns former football star Hassan Biruma
FUFA has learnt with deep shock, the death of Mr. Hassan Biruma Mawanda-father of Uganda Cranes player Hassan Wasswa.
Mr. Biruma passed away on Monday 11th December 2017.
In a condolense statement signed off by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo;
‘FUFA knows that no words can best describe the deceased’s contribution to Ugandan football as he was a National icon and KCCA FC star who served his country unselfishly’‘On my own behalf, Executive Members, Member Associations of FUFA, Uganda Players, the entire football community and all football loving Ugandans; I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Family, Friends, Relatives and KCCA FC upon the loss of our Elder’

FUFA Women Elite League 2017-18: UCU Lady Cardinals outwits Isra Academy as Ajax Queens, Wakiso triumph on the road
FUFA Women Elite League 2017-18:

UCU Lady Cardinals were the biggest winners over the weekend as the 2017-18 FUFA Women Elite league continued with six games.
The Mukono based club humbled newly promoted Isra Academy 4-0. Ajax Queens recorded the same scoreline over Western United.
Moureen Afoyo and Annet Namwenge each scored a brace for Ajax Queens at the Kabwohe playground in Sheema District.
Wakiso won 1-0 away from home against the Eastern Heroes and Rines S.S also edged Muteesa Royal University 1-0.
Two matches ended in non scoring stalemates. Gafford Ladies and holders Kawempe Muslim S.S as well as Uganda Martyrs – Kampala Queens encounter failed to register any goals.
The league will resume next weekend.

FUFA Supports Busoga Youth Retreat
FUFA has extended its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities this year to the people of Busoga by coming out to be part of the ‘Ekigunga Kya Busoga’ to run from 9th-17th December at Emirates Secondary School, in Kamuli District.
FUFA offered 5M shillings (Five Million Shillings) and 20 footballs to the organisers of the event aimed at using culture to end early marriages amongst the youths and keep girls in schools.

FUFA Organises course for football journalists
FUFA has confirmed a course for the football journalists to be conducted from 12th-15th December, 2017 at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The latest development has been confirmed by FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.
‘FUFA considers education in all sectors of football as a key component in our strategic plan for the period 2017-2021. We are very much aware of the role played by the media in the dissemination of information about football to the public’
‘We have informed Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) about the course and they are already receiving applicants’ added Hussein.
The attached media officers to the 8 FUFA Regional Football Associations will also attend the course.
FUFA will meet all the costs of the course but participants are requested to carry sports kits (soccer boots or canvas shoes, shorts and shirts), gadgets like laptops, voice recorders, video and photo cameras as the course will have practical sessions’
Deadline for registration is Sunday 10th December, 2017.
