Capacity Building: Over 30 coaches in CAF B Refresher Course at Njeru

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is once again investing in the development of football by hosting a residential three day CAF B Coaching Refresher Course at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

The Course began with a short opening ceremony that was attended by the FUFA Head of Technical matters, Ali Mwebe, his assistant and Youth Football Development manager, Bashir Mutyaba and FUFA Education Officer Jackson Nyima.

On behalf of FUFA President, The FUFA Head of Technical Matters Mwebe thanked the attendees for attending the course and also said he was proud of the strides that are being made by the CAF to improve that quality of football in the federation at all levels.

‘This course is a serious one, as coaches need to have a better understanding of the game. We need coaches who can teach fellow coaches. A coach needs to understand the new trend of the game. This course is an enhancement course, it is to update the coaches on the trends and the changes in the football world. There will be more courses such as these in the future and I urge all coaches to participate when we host them’ Ali Mwebe stated.

The course will consist of theoretical lectures and practical sessions each day until the final day on Wednesday

Participants of the course will be engaged in topics that are vital to improving the game at all levels.

The Course is being handled by former FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa, CAF instructor Jackson Nyima, who is thrilled with FUFA and CAF’s move.

‘The main purpose of CAF refresher programme is to provide active coaches with technical knowledge through CAF-run educational courses in the areas of coaching, refereeing, women’s football, futsal, beach soccer, and administrative and medical matters. These courses focus not just on the technical aspects of the game, but also on its social values, as people in a particular field should regard football as a thought of life. The principle behind CAF’s educational initiatives involves the teachers and participants passing on and exchanging know-how, experiences and information, which in turn finds its way back to the associations, instructors and other sectors of society such as the private sector, government bodies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). CAF’s programme is tailor-made to meet the member associations’ requirements for education and courses’ Jackson Nyiima noted.

Bevis Mugabi: I am ready for Uganda Cranes duty to serve above self

Uganda Cranes towering defender Bevis Mugabi Kristofer Kizito, 21, remains optimistic about delivering to the expected standards ahead of the upcoming 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt (June 21st – 19th July).

Mugabi is among the 28 players named by head coach Sebastien Desabre, preparing for the special training camp in Abu Dhabi where they will also play two international friendly matches.

Born in the United Kingdom to Ugandan parents, Mugabi earned his first cap last year during the March 2018 international break against West African opposition Sao Tome and Principe at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

He is currently plying his trade with English League two side Yoevil town.

Bevis Mugabi in work outs during training as the Uganda Cranes assistant coach Mathias Lule and head coach Sebastien Desabre keep a keen eye

In an exclusive interview with www.fufa.co.ug,  Mugabi notes that this call up is a lifetime opportunity as it makes a big impact in one’s football career.

I never expected this and I was very surprised though had a good season amidst my club being relegated. I was communicating to the coach (Sebastien Desabre) because he followed me as he watched my games online. I am excited for this opportunity to be part of the Uganda National team AFCON squad. At my first call up in March 2018, I enjoyed a lot because it was my first time to play international football and want a more test of it by featuring in a competitive match like a qualifier and a competition like AFCON because that’s when you can actually say you are an international player. I am still waiting for that moment to come thus patiently waiting and training hard. I am not under any pressure amidst the tight competition for a place in the twenty three man final AFCON squad. The competition is healthy because everyone is at his best which is good for the team

Mugabi remains confident alongside the rest of his teammates and many teams will be surprised because Uganda has plenty of talent and the preparations are superb ahead of the competition.

I pity those who underrate Uganda because we shall surprise many, the team has talented and hardworking players, the coach and his entire technical team are awesome together with the wonderful preparations

He also believes that his featuring at AFCON is a door opener to better opportunities.
