    Dates for Tokyo 2020 Olympics Women Football African Zone preliminary qualifier match between the Crested Cranes and Ethiopia have been confirmed.

    According to the fixtures released from the Head-Qualifier and International match official for world football governing body FIFA Gordon Savic, the first leg will be played in Ethiopia in Addis Ababa National Stadium on 3rd April 2019 at 16:00hrs.

    Match officials from Egypt will handle the 1st Leg and are; Saad Ali Shahenda will be in the center assisted by Hassan Hanady and Ahmed Shibl as the 1st and 2nd assistants respectively.

    The 2nd leg is set to take place in Kampala on 6th April 2019 at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo and officials for the return match have bene named. They are;

    Umutoni Aline from Rwanda will be the center referee. Murangwa Sandrine and Umutesi Alice will be the assistants.

    This is the first Olympics qualifier engagement for the Crested Cranes in the history of Uganda Women Football.

    Crested Cranes  defeated Ethiopia 2-1 in their last meeting during the 2018 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup in Kigali, Rwanda.

    Venue: National Stadium, Tanzania

    Uganda Cranes contingent in Egypt safely traveled from Entebbe to Cairo via Addis Ababa Ethiopia in the wee-hours of Monday.

    This was after a successful week long non-residential training at KCCA stadium in Lugogo that climaxed with a trial game against Kampala Region Select a game The Uagnda Cranes comfortably won 4-0.

    The team is accommodated at Tolip Salfotsan Hotel in Cairo City, Egypt.

    ‘We traveled very safely and everybody here is in good state. We are ready for the mission ahead of us and make our fellow countrymen happy. It took us close to 6 hours of travel having connected from Entebbe to Ethiopia then settled in Cairo like at 3 am in the Monday morning.” noted Hamid Juma, the leader of delegation upon arrival.

    The team training will resume on Monday March 18, throughout the week and the team will thereafter switch to Tanzania on Saturday ahead of AFCON Qualifiers game on Sunday.

    Joseph Ochaya, Emmanuel Okwi and Juuko Murushid all joined the team in Ethiopia while other missing players will join the rest in the course of the week.

    Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes tactician Sebastian Desabre has tasked players to make use of this camp and finish the qualifiers on a higher note.

    CSR: Express FC wins FUFA Cup of Hope in Luzira Upper Prison, Inmates receive football items

    Express FC emerged winners of the FUFA Cup of Hope after edging KCCA FC 2-1 in the final of the tournament on Sunday at Luzira Upper Prison ground.

    Bashir Kasibante who will walk to freedom in May after serving his sentence netted both goals for Express FC.  Captain Ogwang Samuel scored for KCCA FC.  The winners took home a Cup and  a new set of jersey. Ten teams took part in the tournament.

    FUFA fulfills CSR promise to inmates of Luzira Uppper Prison 

    It is exactly 371 days today as FUFA returned to Luzira Upper Prison to offer more hope to the inmates through football.  As one of the tools used to support and improve society by using the beautiful game, FUFA fulfilled the promise made on 12th March 2017 at the same place by delivering football items as part of the FUFA CSR activity for this year.

    Items delivered included a computer, goalkeeping gloves, refereeing kits, two boks of the FIFA Laws of the Game and 20 balls.  FUFA also faciliated the three day Referees’ course condcuted by Samuel Egesa. The fresh referees handled the both matches played on the day.

    Before the donataions were handed over, two matches were played in which the FUFA President’s XI fell to the Upper stars losing 6-4.

    Upper Stars goals were scored by Ivan Odwari , Eddie Muhingo and Katerega Oscar with a brace each.

    FUFA CEO Edgar Watson  got a brace, Hakim Magumba and Eng. Moses Magogo netted for the President’s XI.

    FUFA President’s XI made several changes as the games went on which saw goalie Sam Kawlaya come on for Sadiq Wassa in the first half, Phillip Ssozi replaced Fred Tamale, Ali Kitenda for Hassan Mubiru, Ali Kayongo for FUFA President.

    While addressing the public, Luzira Upper Prison OC SSP Sentalo expressed his excitement having received officials from the football governing body (FUFA).

    ‘We don’t take your being here for granted, without your coming here all this excitement wouldn’t have been expressed. The joy amongst us here is because of your presence’ Sentalo noted.

    Sentalo also applauded the inmates for putting up a spirited game and ensuring discipline is at maximum and later expressed his desire for a seasonal league instead of tournaments in the upper prison and highly praised the initiative of the capacity building amongst inmates.

    ‘The introduction of a referees’ course is a remarkable milestone in the upper prison and it’s going to change a lot in terms of football here’ added Sentalo.

    FUFA President thanked inmates for loving the game of football and joining the whole world to make it the most popular and loved sport.

    In his brief remarks before the donation also noted the fulfillment of a pledge made by the football governing body.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has named the final 24 players who will camp in Egypt ahead of the TOTAL AFCON 2019 group L qualifier away to Tanzanian

    10 players were confirmed after the comprehensive 4-0 win over Kampala region select team on Saturday at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo.

It was a great match we tested the players before flying out to Egypt for the final training camp in Ismaily, Egypt.     The Uganda Cranes pool of home based players warmed up for the up-coming AFCON 2019 group L qualifier against Tanzania with a 4-0 win over Kampala region select side at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.

    Dan Sserunkuma scored twice with Allan Okello and second half substitute Bright Anukani adding the other two goals.

    All the goals came in the second half after Kampala region had staged a gallant fight in the opening 45 minutes.

    Sserunkuma, a first half substitute combined with Brian Majwega who had come on at the start of the second half for the opener after 57 minutes.

    Okello had a great curl past the goalkeeper six minutes later.

    Sserunkuma completed his brace with 17 minutes left on the clock with another Majwega assist before Anukani completed the misery for Kampala after combining with David Owori.

    Women Football: Crested Cranes edge Kampala select in first ever regional tour match

    The Uganda Crested Cranes overcame Kampala region select 2-1 in the first ever regional tour match for the ladies at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday, 16 March 2019.

    A goal in each half Anita Namata and Resty Nanziri inspired Faridha Bulega’s coached side to victory under very hot conditions.

    Sophia Nakiyingi got the consolation for a resilient Kampala side via a well taken kick from the penalty mark.

    Namata gave the national side the lead on 27 minutes.

    The lead lasted only 13 minutes before Sophia Nakiyingi’s equalizer off a well taken kick from the penalty mark.

    Nanziri, one of the 10 second half substitutes for the national side struck home a beautiful long range shot off an acute angle on the left.

    The winning goal had arrived moments after Zaina Namuleme’s weak penalty effort was saved by goalkeeper Esther Akujo.

    Earlier, Hasifa Nassuna had missed target inside opening minute from kick off.

    Crested Cranes left back, Margret Birabwa tested Kampala region goalkeeper Esther Akujo with a weak shot from 20 yards on five minutes.

    Kampala region’s first threat towards goal arrived after 6 minutes when Sumaya Kyomhendo’s weak effort from over 30 yards was a routine collection for Ruth Aturo in Crested Cranes goal.

    On the quarter hour mark, Juliet Nalukenge headed over with a diving effort before Monica Namwase missed from long range.

    The long awaited break through arrived three minutes from the half hour mark when Namata rounded the advancing goalie before tapping the ball in empty net for the opener.

    On 30 minutes, there was a water break breather to allow the players cool off the scorching sun.

    Moments after the break, Kampala select’s Shakira Nyinagahirwe registered an attempt off target.

    The equalizer came five minutes to the end of the opening stanza.

    Nakiyingi scored from the penalty spot following a foul in the forbidden area on Nyinagahirwe.

    Upon restart, the Crested Cranes made nine changes.

    There were then changes for Kampala when goal scorer Sophia Nakiyingi, Sumaya Kyomuhendo and Regina Nantege were all rested for Rebecca Nakato, Allen Nassozi and Naiga Mayimuna respectively.

    On 69 minutes, Zaina Namuleme missed her penalty that was awarded following a foul on Mutuuzo.

    Latifa Nakasi replaced Hadijja Nandago in Kampala Region’s other change before Crested Cranes’ Aisha Namukisa paved way for Damali Matama.

    Nanziri struck the match winner via decent shot off an acute angle on the left wing, 20 yards from goal.

    With 15 minutes to play Allen Nassozi was replaced by Sandra Nakamya as the Kampala Select pushed numbers upfront for the equalizer that never arrived.

    This was the first regional tour game organized for the female players intended to take the national team (Crested Cranes) closer to the populous.

    FUFA organises Induction Course for Regional General Secretaries, Development Officers

    The General Secretaries and Football Development Officers of the 8 FUFA regions were taken through a four day orientation course that started on  Tuesday and ended on Friday at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

    FUFA fully funded the course of 18 administrators that climaxed with Certificates of attendance handed to the participants.

    Speaking at the closure of the course, Humphrey Mandu, the FUFA Deputy Chief Executive Officer noted that this induction was intended to give an orientation to new FUFA region staff about the modern trends of the game right from the grassroots levels.

    ‘The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo started the initiative of transforming the game of football and this can be done through inductions like this to our new members of staff. By asking participants to act as ambassadors and corporate with those who have no idea yet within their respective regions by tempting them to attend courses and also appreciate the value of football education and what it brings.  I call upon you to put into practice what you have learnt.     Olivia Kiconco, one of the participants from Western region admitted that it has been such a great opportunity for her and the fellow participants to acquire knowledge which will help them transform the game of football in Uganda.

    The Crested Cranes began preparations on Thursday afternoon ahead of their first ever regional tour.
    The team will play against Kampala region on Saturday, 16th March 2019.
    Faridah Bulega, the head coach took players through drills at Maroons stadium, Luzira on the first day of training.
    Of the 23 players summoned last week, 21 turned up for training. Lilian Mutuuzo and Resty Nanziri were not available but the coach confirmed they will join the rest of the team in the Friday session.

    The coach was impressed with the fitness levels of the players and believes the game on Saturday will be a good precursor ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Ethiopia next month.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre looks at the last AFCON 2019 qualification match as a do or die affair.

    Desabre addressed the media during the official press conference at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala on the third day of the team’s non residential training.

    Flanked by the FUFA communications manager, Ahmed Hussein, Desabre assured the media upon the essence and significance of the match against Tanzania.

    We need to finish the AFCON 2019 qualification on a strong note and finish very well in Tanzania. We are going for maximum points. It is a good opportunity to play in Tanzania. Tanzania will be under pressure, stadium will be full.We have two targets at the same time. AFCON last group qualifier and the CHAN 2020 Preparation. We have so far trained for three days. On Saturday, we have a trial match against Kampala Select. After Saturday, the team will travel to Ismaily in Egypt for training camp. I thank the Federation led by Eng. Moses Magogo for the training camp opportunity where the players will gel together as I continue to monitor them. This is also early preparations for the Uganda Cranes team well ahead of AFCON 2019 tournament.  This will also be a moment for me to assess new players on the team with Christzom Ntambi, Shaban Muhammed, Robert Odongkara and others. We plan a friendly match against a league one club next Wednesday in Egypt’ Sebastien Desabre noted.

    They were joined the Vipers players Moses Waiswa, Tadeo Lwanga, Halid Lwaliwa and Dan Sserunkuma as well as Express’ Michael Birungi as well as Bright Anukani of Proline.

    Mbarara City’s Ivan Eyam did not train with the rest of the players because he traveled for the club’s home Star Times Uganda Premier League engagement against newly promoted Ndejje University at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara.

    After the Uganda Cranes play a test match against Kampala regional select, a pool of 9 players will be selected to join the 15 foreign based legion in Egypt for the training camp.

    On Wednesday, the national team marked the third day of non-residential training at Lugogo.

    The team training resumes on Thursday morning starting by 9 AM at Lugogo.

    The FUFA Drum 2019: Draws held as playing format is changed

    The draws for the second edition of The FUFA Drum tournament have been held on Tuesday 12th March 2019 at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga in Kampala.

    The federation was represented with the top brass officials led by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha, Exco Members Hamid Juma, Chis Kalibbala, Ronnie Kalema, David Mukidi Kalyebala, Rogers Byamukama, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and the FUFA Drum Committee members.

    The respective Provinces were also well represented by team leaders and officials. The playing format has been changed in a way that after the first group stages, the teams will be grouped to play at one venue for the quarter finals till the finals. The venue is yet to be named.

    Moments before the draws, the team leaders and the local organizing committee conducted a review session on how the previous tournament progressed and plan for the 2nd edition.

    In his address, the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo lauded all the parties for their roles in ensuring a successful tournament during the first edition.

    With due admission, the challenges encountered during the inaugural tournament can only be made better;

    I am very glad that we have the second edition of the FUFA Drum tournament. I thank the stakeholders who enabled the successful running of the first edition. I must admit we had challenges in the first edition, but we shall only get better. We have a new format in place. This is meant to give sponsors mileage. This tournament causes a lot of emotions and this is good for the event. Let us enjoy the tournament and encourage our fans to take part through mobilisation. Three provinces Acholi, Tooro and West Nile stood out in terms of mobilisation. I also thank the cultural leaders who took part in the first edition.     ‘The first edition of the FUFA Drum was a successful tournament. I thank all the teams that took part in the tournament and for the beautiful football displayed. This edition we return bigger and better with player insurance well catered for by the National Insurance Corporation (NIC). For the short comings, I beg we review together and ensure a successful tourney for the successful tournament in year two’

    Over two million fans followed their Province teams to venues where matches were played. This was a strong message that indicated people’s love for football and their ancestry. Let’s participate with love and joy that football brings.

    The 19th FUFA Executive Committee meeting that sat on 14th February 2019 renewed the mandate of The FUFA Drum Organising Committee for another term of one year. I would like to thank Mr. Rogers Byamukama and his Committee members for the job well done in the first edition.

    FUFA will conduct the draws for the forthcoming ‘The FUFA Drum’ 2nd edition on Tuesday afternoon at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga.

    16 provinces will take part in the draws for the tournament that was won by Buganda Province during the 1st edition in Arua.

    Busoga, Bugisu, Buganda, Bunyoro, West Nile, Bukedi, Sebei, Tooro, Kigezi, Ankole, Lango, Karamoja, Teso, Acholi, Kampala and Rwenzori are the provinces that will take part in the draws.

    Uganda Cranes kick start preparations for final AFCON 2019 qualifier against Tanzania

    A group of 24 players have kick started non residential training drills for the TOTAL AFCON 2019 qualifier away to Tanzania due on Sunday 24th March 2019.

    The players, many of whom locally based from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs trained for two hours at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

    With the exception of Vipers SC, Proline FC and Express FC players, the rest of the summoned players turned up with the inclusion of Solomon Walusimbi of Maroons Football Club

    Addressing the media after the session, Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre expressed gratitude about the response from the players who turned up.

    Kawempe Muslim Ladies became the first team to earn a slot to the playoffs of the 2018/19 FUFA Women Elite League after registering a 2-0 win away to Ajax Queens over the weekend.
    The four-time winners and defending champions ensured they sealed their berth with four games to play after third-placed She Corporate were held at home by Rines SS.
    Juliet Nalukenge and Asia Nakibuuka scored for the Warriors to move to 28 points in ten games, 14 ahead of She Corporate hence confirming their qualification from Victoria group. In the same group, second-placed Lady Doves also cemented their position and edged closer to the playoffs with a convincing 4-1 win against bottom-placed Dynamic SS Jjeza.

    Lydia Nyandera scored a brace while Lilian Zeddy Veronica and Nuru Nakyanzi added a goal each to help the Masindi based side to 22 points. Scovia Kibiri got the consolation for Dynamic SS Jjeza who are bottom of the table with only one point.
    Muteesa I Royal University and Asubo Gafford Ladies played out a one-all draw on Saturday. Elizabeth Nakigozi gave the University side the lead but Gafford Ladies rallied back through Sheebah Zalwango to salvage a point.
    She Corporate needed to come from a goal down to earn a point against a resilient Rines SS side. Jackie Nassali had given Rines the lead but Favour Nambatya leveled matters in the second half.
    In Elizabeth group, UCU Lady Cardinals brightened their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs with a 4-2 win over Isra Soccer Academy.
    Hasifa Nassuna was in fine form grabbing a hat trick before Captain Maureen Kinavudori added the other goal. Fauziah Najjemba scored the two goals for Isra.
    The victory propelled UCU Lady Cardinals top of the table on 21 points same as Olila High School who edged Kampala Queens in Soroti thanks to Patricia Apio’s solitary strike.
    Uganda Martyrs High School were the biggest winners on matchday ten with a clean out against debutants Bugiri Town View.
    Crested Cranes defender Shadia Nankya continued with her scoring spree netting a hat trick to move to eight league goals this season. She already leads the scoring charts in the FUFA Women Cup with seven goals.
    The other goals for Uganda Martyrs were scored by Rashida Nankya(brace) and an own goal by Esther Namudira. The Lubaga based team is now level on points with Isra both on 16 points.
    Makerere University won 1-0 against Lango Queens with Rebecca Nakasaato scoring the lone goal. The race for the top scorer’s boot is still on with Hasifa Nassuna leading with 12 goals while Fauziah Najjemba and Juliet Nalukenge are both tied on ten goals apiece.
    Meanwhile, in the FUFA Women’s Cup, Kawempe Muslim Junior team earned a walkover against Mwanda Foundation who failed to travel to Kampala. This, therefore, means the former qualify to the quarterfinal stage.

    Bright Stars and Kyetume Football Clubs secured their first ever slots in the competition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

    Top tier Bright Stars eliminated FUFA Big League out fit Nebbi Central 1-0 at the Luo play ground in West Nile on Saturday.

    During the second match played on Sunday at the Nakisunga Ssaza play ground, Kyetume ejected fellow FUFA Big League side Wakiso Giants 4-1 in post match penalties after 120 minutes of action.

    Kyetume scored their kicks from the penalty mark through Denis Lubowa, M. Sande, Ibrahim Kazindula and Vincent Kayizzi.

    Ivan Kiweewa was on the mark for Wakiso Giants as Clinton Kamugisha and James Kasibante missed their respective kicks.

    The Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter final action continues on Monday, 11th March 2019 when Express hosts BUL at the Betway Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

    FUFA to Conduct Inspection and Monitoring of Registered Coaches

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will start inspecting and monitoring all FUFA certified coaches.

    Over the past four years, FUFA has intensified technical education programs to ensure that coaches are empowered with modern methodologies in their area of operation.

     However, the FUFA Football Development Department observed that some of the coaches are not implementing the right coaching principles hence resulting in slow signs of gradual development of football on the field of play.

    The 19th FUFA Executive committee which sat on the 14th February 2019 passed the proposal from the FUFA Football Development Committee to conduct a coach inspection and monitoring exercise of all FUFA registered coaches during competition seasons.

    FUFA Coaches’ inspectors will reach out to clubs during training sessions and match days to implement this policy either on notice or without prior notice.

    The FUFA Human Resource and Capacity Building Manager Jackson Nyiima is hapy with the development.

    ‘We shall coordinate with the coaches at the 16 Clubs in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to get their specific days of training sessions so that we make the visits. We are hopeful this will make a change in our football’ said Nyiima.

    The FUFA coaches’ inspectors are issued with FUFA identifications and will provide reports to the FUFA Football Development Department about coaches’ performance about the training sessions and matches played.

    The four coaches’ instructors are; Mujib Kasule, Asuman Lubowa, Jackson Nyiima and Livingstone Kyambadde all the Level of CAF.

    Uganda currently has 3509 coaches certified by FUFA from beginners to CAF A License.

    Crested Cranes head coach Faridah Bulega has released a squad comprising of 23 players ahead of the Kampala regional tour on Saturday, 16th March 2019.

    This will be the first time that the women’s national team will play a regional tour game. They will play against Kampala Select regional side.

    The team comprises of four goalkeepers, six defenders, eight midfielders and five strikers with the core of the team that played at the 2018 CECAFA Women’s Championship maintained.

    Skipper Tracy Jones Akiror, reigning FUFA Female footballer Ruth Aturo and FUFA Women Elite leading top scorer Hasifa Nassuna are all part of the squad.

    The team will have two days of non-residential training on 14th and 15th March 2019 at Maroons stadium, Luzira.

    According to FUFA Communications Manager, Ahmed Hussein, the motive of the tour is to move the team nearer to the fans but also help the team play more games.

    ‘Like it is the case with the senior men’s team, FUFA wants to take the Crested Cranes to the people but at the same time helps the team to remain active.’ He said.
