  • FUFA’s response to the head of Uganda Boxing Federation

FUFA’s response to the head of Uganda Boxing Federation

FUFA is extremely disappointed by the choice of words and lack of facts in an offensive opinion by Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President Mr. Moses Muhangi under the headline ‘FUFA planned Robbery of 10bn from Uganda Government’.

To the game of football and the institution of FUFA, the image and brand has cost us volumes of resources  in terms of time and money. We don’t take lightly casual and unfortunate phrases like those made by Mr. Muhangi.

Our discussion with Mr. Muhangi since the opinion broke out on various media platforms, clearly shows that he doesn’t know the history of the matter.

The approach he has taken may have more long term and detrimental consequences than the presumed objective as it throws our case of the professional sports industry creation and prioritisation debate off balance.

In the prevailing circumstances, FUFA will have no option but as usual to explain ourselves with the history, correspondences, facts and figures where need be.

During that historic meeting in Rwakitura in 2018 when HE the President of the Republic of Uganda directed the funding of a few strategic disciplines in the national budget, he mentioned how his own grandchildren were now talking about the Uganda Cranes and took pictures with the players. This did not come accidentally. It is called Brand Equity created by FUFA and we believe other federations are getting there.

However it was not until the qualification of the Uganda Cranes to the Africa Cup of Nations after 39 years and qualification of the She Cranes to the Netball World Cup that took the powers that are to consider funding to some federations. This is because of the brand equity that had been created by football and netball.

Our engagement with Government has been about Funding of the preparations and presentation of National Representative Teams and Athletes, the Law, Infrastructure and Policies for all Sports disciplines.  These ‘internal’ squabbles among the sports family will only undermine such efforts. We need synergy not squabbles.

Finally, image protection is a key element at FUFA and despite the private apology by Mr. Muhangi, we expect a public apology from the President of Uganda Boxing Federation.

    Kawempe Junior 3-0  Highland SS
The third edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup got underway over the weekend with several records made as far as the annual knockout competition is concerned.
Crested Cranes defender Shadia Nankya who plays for Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga was the star of the weekend helping her team progress to the next stage.
The lanky defender was lethal as Uganda Martyrs obliterated Watoto Women FC 10-0 in the game played at Lubiri SS on Sunday.
Despite being a defender, Nankya was this time employed as a forward and did not disappoint scoring seven of the ten goals on the day. Esther Naluyimba(brace) and Rashidah Nankya scored the other goals.
The result went down the books of history as the biggest victory in the competition since its inception in 2016. Additionally, Nankya also set up a new record as the first player to score seven goals in one game in women’s football in the FUFA recognized competitions (FUFA Women Elite League and FUFA Women’s Cup).
Nankya has so far scored five goals in the league thus taking her goal tally to twelve in all competitions.
Cup holders UCU Lady Cardinals suffered an early exit losing 3-1 to league champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.
Anita Namata, Aisha Nantongo, Samalie Nacahwa scored a goal each for Kawempe while Maureen Kinavudori got the consolation for the University side.

In the other game involving two teams from the FUFA Elite League, last season’s losing finalists She Corporate FC edged past Ajax Queens FC winning the game 1-0 courtesy of new recruit Millicent Mwanzi.
Asubo Gafford Ladies recovered from their league loss against Ajax Queens FC to outwit Buganda regional league side Luweero Women FC.
Tanzanian striker Mariana Kimbuya scored a brace while Shakirah Mutiibwa, Joanita Nabirye Faridah Oyella. Sheebah Zalwango added a goal apiece.
Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim Junior team overcame Highland SS with a 3-0 victory, Mwanda Foundation won 4-2 on kicks from the penalty mark against Jerome Uganda after normal time had ended goalless. In a similar fashion, Divine Girls stunned Rines WFC 4-2 on penalties following a barren stalemate in normal time.
Sagich Royal won 4-0 against Kamodi High. Kumi University, Bugiri Town View SS and Amuria High failed to honor their respective fixtures.
The round of 32 remaining fixtures will be played on 23rd February 2019. These include Isra Soccer Academy hosting Kampala Queens. The two teams are in the same group(Elizabeth) and drew 2-2 recently in a league game.
Bunyaruguru Girls will face Western United, Muteesa I Royal University FC will be at home to Lango Queens while Tooro United from Fort Portal takes on Dynamic Jjeza.
Wakiso Hills vs Lady Doves FC will be played on Wednesday 13th February 2019 at Wakisha Ground.

The second round of the 2018/19 season of the FUFA Women Elite League began with thrilling moments in the games played over the weekend.

In the 8 games played, 16 goals were scored with four of the five wins registered coming on the road. Only UCU Lady Cardinals won at home.

UCU Lady Cardinals were the biggest winners with a 5-1 humiliation of struggling Lango Queens in the game played in Mukono on Saturday.

2016 Airtel FUFA Female footballer, Hasifa Nassuna orchestrated the demolition scoring four of the five goals with the other coming from skipper Maureen Kinavudori.

The double brace meant Nassuna took her goal tally to nine this season and she is currently the top scorer.

The University side moved joint top on 15 points same as Kampala Queens FC who were held at home in a thrilling two all draw by Isra Soccer Academy. Olila Women who won 1-0 against Bugiri Town View SS also moved to 15 points.

Lilian Mutuuzo and new signing from Rines WFC Doreen Nabukeera scored for Kampala Queens but Isra rallied back through Fauziah Najjemba and captain Shamira Nalugya.

The point moved Isra Soccer Academy to fourth place on the table on 13 points same as Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga who drew goalless against She Makerere.

In Victoria group, Kawempe Muslim Ladies who are the defending champions edged closer to sealing their spot in the playoffs with a 2-0 win away to bottom-placed Dynamic Jjeza in Muduuma, Mityana.

Crested Cranes captain Tracy Jones Akiror and Juliet Nalukenge scored a goal each to help the Warriors maintain their summit status. The victory meant Kawempe Muslim won their 7th successive game this season and have collected 22 points out of the possible 24.

Masindi based Lady Doves nicked a hard fought 1-0 win against Rines WFC in Wakiso to remain second on 16 points. New signing from Katuuso Community FC Nuruh Nakyanzi scored the lone goal.

Gafford Ladies were without head coach Steven Wabwire who is still serving a four-match touchline ban.

She Corporate FC woes of failing to score continued as the Nakawa based outfit were held by Muteesa I Royal University at Wankulukuku.

Despite making marquee signings at the start of the season, She Corporate FC scored just four goals in the first round.

Both Muteesa and She Corporate FC are level on eleven points in fourth and fifth position respectively.

The top two teams in either group at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoff phase where a champion is determined.

  • The authentic Uganda Cranes jersey is priceless

The authentic Uganda Cranes jersey is priceless

By FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein

I will drive slightly my energies this week on the beauty of purchasing and wearing an authentic sports gear-in this case the much cherished Uganda Cranes jersey.

However, first I will drop a line on how the public is being derailed to believe that world over domestic football is firmly in the hands of clubs. Unfortunately that’s not true. Football Associations-in this case FUFA always gets at the forefront to guide and not dictate on how clubs should run their businesses. It is a mindset that will change gradually. Club football is not about an individual’s money but structures. All clubs are allowed to run their businesses freely. However clubs like KCCA FC and Vipers SC have embraced the FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda with success stories to talk about.

The official FUFA Logo. No individual or company can use this logo without prior permission for commercial gains. Even for non commercial activities, clearance for the use of the logo must be sought first from FUFA.

FUFA is the sole owner of the Uganda Cranes jersey. Under the Trademarks Act 2010, the federation managed to register its trademarks; FUFA Logo, Federation of Uganda Football Associations and its abbreviation FUFA. The local football clubs have also been encouraged to do so with their trademarks to avoid any future infringements on their logos.

It is illegal for an individual or company to trade using FUFA’s registered trademarks as mentioned without prior permission from the owner for commercial gains. In a bid to protect the Uganda Cranes jersey, FUFA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a reputable kit manufacturer Mafro. They are the sole producers of the Uganda Cranes jerseys. The 8 Main Regional distributors will deal with the sales agents across the country from respective regions to help in selling the jersey. It is paramount for a football fan to know that loyalties from the sales of the Uganda Cranes jerseys will be passed on to the eight (8) Regional Football Associations. This requires for policing by both the football officials, distributors and sales agents at regional level.

There’s no better way to show off your loyalty by wearing an authentic Uganda Cranes jersey that brings you respect and passion for your beloved country. Authentic jerseys are simply priceless. It goes without saying that when you buy an authentic Uganda Cranes soccer jersey, you’re getting something special. Signed or not, the authentic Uganda Cranes jerseys are valuable pieces of wearable history that you will treasure for a lifetime.

L-R Uganda Cranes players Joseph Ochaya, Miya Farouk, Sadam Juma, Emmanuel Okwi, Moses Waiswa, and Hassan Wasswa during the official unveiling of the new Cranes jersey.

However it all starts with the desire to know what one would like to buy. It calls for taste, fashion, passion and the satisfaction derived from wearing the Uganda Cranes jersey.

But why do fans sometimes find themselves buying counterfeit National team jerseys?

I have said it before, and I will say it again (it should be number one among them): in reasons why you should buy authentic soccer jerseys, showcasing your team respect outweighs them all.  Two values are attached to the Uganda Cranes jersey and why you should buy it; The shirt itself and then the FUFA logo embroidered on it hence making it a valuable item.

They may be far from inexpensive, but what the authentic jersey holds in personal value outweighs all other opinions under this conundrum: replica or authentic? The latter is probably something you would much rather not wear, possibly other than for soccer games.

A special graphic produced calling for potential distributors for the authentic Uganda Cranes and Crested Cranes jerseys

FUFA has finalised plans to stock the FUFA sports shop in Mengo with jerseys bearing names of the past and current generation of Uganda Cranes players. Imagine a fan purchasing a Uganda Cranes jersey with customised names of Majid Musisi, Jackson Mayanja, Denis Onyango, Hakim Magumba, Philip Omondi, Geoffrey Massa, Jimmy Kirunda and many others.

That’s a true fan of the sport and the player himself, knows the ownership of such a jersey is the best way to prove their value to the public.

As FUFA continues to sensitise the football family and other stakeholders on the values of purchasing the authentic Uganda Cranes jerseys from designated selling centres, it is a humble appeal for all to support the cause that will take the football industry to another level.

It is our Game, It is Our Country.
