The Azam Uganda Premier league match day 17 had 7 games played on Tuesday across the different venues in the country.
There were 8 goals scored, with 5 clubs registering victories and two barren draws.
Vipers Sports Club defeated Onduparaka F.C 2-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium Kitende in a match also watched by Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre.
Fresh from the 2018 CHAN tournament, forward-cum-winger Milton Karisa opened the scoring in the 7th minute before two time Stanbic Uganda Cup top scorer Erisa Ssekisambu got the other goal in a space of less than 5 minutes.
Express scored through Isaac Kisujju and Michael Birungi in their 2-0 home win against visiting BUL at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

Kirinya-Jinja S.S smiled to a 2-0 win against Police at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe. Anthony Mayanja and Musa Esenu were on target for Kirinya -Jinja S.S.
At the Bombo Barracks stadium, Simba edged Proline 1-0 courtesy of Fahad Badiro’s lone strike.
URA overcame Bright Stars 1-0 at the Mandela National Stadium. Substitute Shafik Kagimu scored for the tax collectors’ club.
Only two matches failed to produce any goal as they both ended goal-less.
Masavu held Maroons at the Luzira Prisons Stadium and so was the tale as Soana visited Mbarara City at the Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara, Western Uganda.
Meanwhile, the top flight league returns on Thursday with a mouth watering clash between holders Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) F.C and Sports Club Villa at the Star Times Stadium in Lugogo.

Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited has been on 13th February 2017 officially unveiled as the title sponsor of the 44th Edition for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Uganda Cup.
The unveiling ceremony was conducted at the offices of Stanbic Bank on Tuesday morning.
This sponsorship is at a tune of Shs. 300M for one season which is renewable.
FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo represented the federation delegation that also had the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson and FUFA Executive Committee member, Rogers Byamukama, who is also the Chairman of Marketing and Communications committee.
Stanbic Bank’s head of Marketing and Communications, Daniel Ogong and Cathy Adengo the Communications manager represented the bank.

The Stanbic Uganda Cup is without doubt Uganda’s most famous knockout football competition.
This promotes football development across the country and allows for the unearthing and spotting of talent that would otherwise go unnoticed.
A total of UGX 90m has been set aside as prize money for this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup with the winner receiving UGX30m.
The Runner up will pocket UGX20m, semi- finalists Shs. 10m each while the quarter finalists will each receive Shs 5m.
This year’s final shall be held in Kumi District, where the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cause attached to this tournament.
Meanwhile, the draws for the tournament round of 32 were also conducted after the presentation of the dummy cheque.

Airtel Uganda Limited is the main Uganda Cranes sponsor. The telecommunications giants are joined by Nile Breweries Limited, Rwenzori, Bidco Uganda Limited and Ecobank.
Cup holders KCCA FC have been drawn for an away fixture against FUFA Big League side Simba in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32.
The draw was conducted at Stanbic Bank branch found at Umoja House in Kampala on Tuesday Morning.
The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, Stanbic’s Head of Marketing and Communications Daniel Ogong and Stanbic’s Communications Manager Cathy Adengo helped to conduct the draw witnessed by staff of the new sponsors of the Stanbic Uganda Cup and the media.
Cathy Adengo picked the 1st and 2nd balls during the draw to complete the fixture between Synergy FC and Masavu FC.
Adengo was given the opportunity to determine the first fixture of this stage and she picked Synergy FC and Masavu FC as match number 33.
The rest of the fixtures were completed by Ogong who picked balls from the rectangular plastic box for home teams while FUFA President drew balls for the way teams.
Kira United FC was picked by Daniel Ogong-Head of Marketing and Communications at Stanbic Bank.
The round of 32 gets underway this weekend with the FUFA Competitions Department set to synchronize the FUFA calendar to cross check on the teams still in the race but won’t be in action during the Azam Uganda Premier League so that they can honour their fixtures.

The Stanbic Uganda Cup is played on knockout basis. The winner represents Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Meanwhile FUFA Chairman Marketing and Communications Committee Rogers Byamukama confirmed that there will be a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity attached to the competition again this year.
‘Football is a unifying sport that brings together people from different walks of life. Such gatherings give humanity a chance to know the needs of one another but some have little or no solutions at all to their social problems. FUFA uses the beautiful game to reach out to the disadvantaged societies through its various commercial properties’ said Byamukama.
Since 2016, FUFA has used the Uganda Cup to extend a helping hand to communities by engaging the public to donate items that can change many lives of those in need and bring smiles to their faces.
The final of 2017/18 Stanbic Uganda Cup will be played in Kumi, North Eastern Region.

Winners of the Stanbic Uganda Cup (formerly Kakungulu cup)
The Organising Committee of ‘The FUFA Drum’ has confirmed Bugembe stadium in Jinja as the host venue of the tournament’s opener between Busoga and Bugisu Provinces on 24th February 2018.
The Committee made a final inspection on Monday afternoon and later took a decision on the hosting venue.
Committee Chairman Rogers Byamukama expressed his delight at the preparations by the Busoga Province team.

‘Busoga region is very privileged and undoubtedly blessed to hold the official opening of The FUFA Drum tournament which comes along with various objectives ranging from spotting raw football talents to celebrating our ancestry’ Byamukama remarked.
‘Bugembe stadium will be the centre of attraction for the opening weekend of The FUFA Drum. We expect high profile dignitaries for this match. I expect a close contest on the day but we shall put in place a good plan for the day’ said Byamukama.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre have met on Monday morning 12thFebruary 2018 at FUFA House to plan for the beautiful game in the country.
With a Press conference coming up on Wednesday at FUFA House starting 10am, the duo discussed details about the just concluded CHAN Finals in Morocco, International engagements for Uganda Cranes including the 2019 AFCON Qualification campaign.

The FUFA Competitions Department has released all fixtures for ‘The FUFA Drum’ to be played among the 16 Provinces in Uganda.
The opening weekend of fixtures for the inaugural tournament played under the theme ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry’ has been set for 24th and 25th of February.
Neighboring Provinces Busoga and Bugisu have been handed the opportunity for the opening ceremony to be held at a venue yet to be determined by the Organizing Committee who will inspect the venues on Monday 12th February.
‘Inspection of pitches that were submitted by the Busoga Province Committee will be conducted today by the Organizing Committee whose Chairman is Rogers Byamukama. We want to hold a memorable opening day ceremony for a young tournament. We are set and looking forward to the kick off as all the 16 provinces will be involved on the opening weekend of action’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.
‘The Competitions Department has also set 6th October 2018 as the date for the final to be played in Kasese. We believe the Prize money of UGX 100M put aside by FUFA will create more competition during the tournament’ added Hussein.

Four goals were scored in the two matches played on Saturday with 14 goals recorded in four matches played on Sunday.
UCU Lady Cardinals registered the biggest scoreline in the 5-0 home victory against Wakiso Hills in Mukono.
Moureen Kinavudori bagged a hat-trick with the other two goals coming from Teddy Najuma and Hasifa Nasunah.

Only Vipers Sports Club, Kirinya-Jinja S.S and BUL managed wins on match day 16 of the Azam Uganda Premier League.
Vipers edged Soana 1-0 at the Kavumba Recreational stadium with a late goal from January 2018 signing Daniel Sserunkuma.
Fred Amaku scored the lone strike for Kirinya-Jinja S.S against Proline at the Star Times stadium, Lugogo while BUL snatched a late penalty by second half substitute Douglas Owori.
Masavu and UPDF shared the spoils during their one all draw at the Fisheries Training Institute, Bugonga in Entebbe.
James Kasibante shot Masavu ahead as early as the second minute before the visitors found the equalizer 10 minutes to the half time break through Fadh Bardiro.
Table leaders Sports Club Villa Jogoo were held at home by visiting Maroons at the Masaka Recreational Stadium.

FUFA has procured premises for the extension of its Headquarters sitting on 0.15 ha of land adjacent to FUFA House in Mengo.
There are two buildings on this land that will need renovation.
The funding of this project is part of the FIFA Forward Programme (FFP) and is one of the 15 programmes to be funded by FIFA.

The head of the Project 1st FUFA Vice President Justus Mugisha confirmed the latest development.
‘We procured space near FUFA House. It will help us create more space for the Secretariat staff. FIFA has played a key role in financing some of the Projects of its Member Associations. We shall make use of this project to serve the football family with improved service delivery’ said Mugisha.

FUFA has noted with great concern about social media reports under the headline ‘FUFA warns club Chairmen’ in regard to the new sponsorship deal signed recently with Sports Broadcasting Limited for the Uganda Premier League starting next season.
FUFA distances itself from the reports as the relationship between the institution, the 16 clubs and their officials remains healthy.
The Federation is now at a stage of operationalizing the contract which will involve parties and clubs concerned on the allocation of finances.
FUFA urges the football fraternity to remain focused towards the development of the game as we set up other avenues of bringing on board more sponsors and partners to the game.
In review of the first round of the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) 2017/18 season, coaches of the top flight teams have highlighted that club football and style of play are some of the key factors that will always have direct adverse impact on performance of players with the National team.
In a meeting held at Tavern woods in Rubaga on Sunday, Uganda football clubs’ coaches under their umbrella body ‘Uganda Football Coaches Association (UFCA)’ deliberated on some of the issues affecting the country’s most popular sport.
Issues discussed on ranged from statistical analysis of round one of the AUPL, conduct of coaches, players attitude and professionalism.
‘Football is about style of play, entertainment, goals, fitness and professionalism. What happens at club level reflects on the National team’ said UFCA Chairman Stone Kyambadde.

There were presentations on Communications-the relationship between Media and team officials presented by FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein, Chairman of FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel Deo Mutabazi while Ronnie Kalema (Chairman Uganda Football Referees Association) made a moving presentation to the coaches about refereeing.
‘A coach doesn’t need to call the media to provide them the line-up for match day. He needs to make use of the Club’s media officer to disseminate the information. Concentrate on the team and not to provide the line-up. You need to be confident while addressing the public through the media’ said Hussein guided the coaches.
Ahmed Hussein-FUFA Communications Manager presented on the relationship between coaches and Media. He advised coaches to always have self confidence while talking to the media and also read the FUFA Communications Code.
‘You need to be mindful of your actions and what you say out in public as the whole world expects you (coaches) to be role models hence creating a positive image and public interest about football’ added Hussein.
Hussein further requested the coaches to create time to find how to communicate both internally and externally with their players, club officials and fans to avoid distorted information being shared by different stakeholders.
The relationship between coaches and referees during while on the field of play was also discussed on.
‘You can’t be a coach and at the same time act as referee. Referees have designated people who asses their performance at the end of every match. Such reports give us a hint of what to do with the appointments. Tensions on the touch lines between coaches and referees during matches are not good for the image of football’ said Kalema.
Concerns on how their disciplinary sanctions are handled was picked on by Mutabazi who took them through Article 30 of the FUFA Competitions (Misconduct and Sanctions) and 31(Judicature) which highlight on hooliganism, brawls, Misconduct against Match officials, Misconduct by team technical officials, competitions disciplinary panel among others.

Other concerns included player physical fitness, tactical abilities, and nutrition plus talent identification right from the grass roots.
The coaches resolved to put into practice a uniform style of play that gives players an opportunity to express themselves on the pitch especially after crossing the half way line.
With the fixtures of the AUPL second round released, coaches were urged to concentrate on being more tactical if the current statistics are to be enhanced.

The round of 64 FUFA Uganda Cup matches were completed on Sunday with two matches.
Sports Club Villa Jogoo gritted their teeth to out muscle Hope Doves 2-0 at the Masaka Recreational Stadium.
George Ssenkaaba and Ambrose Kirya scored the goals.
On Saturday, Vipers defeated Kasese’s Bronken 3-1 with the goals coming from Bashir Asiku, Frank Tumwesigye and Steven Mukwala.
The consolation for the home side came from Xavier Masereka.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club, the reigning champions in this tournament started their title defence in style with a 4-0 away victory to Mbarara in Kakyeeka stadium.
Striker Patrick Kaddu scored twice for KCCA and he also missed a penalty.
Allan Okello and Paul Mucureezi were also on target for KCCA.
There were some matches that were not played after the expected visiting teams did not honour their respective games.
The FUFA Competitions Department will communicate the fate of these matches.
Meanwhile, the date for the draws of the round of 32 will be confirmed in the near future.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has conducted a physical fitness test for 141 Referees at St Henry’s College, Kitovu in Masaka.
Of these, 21 are FIFA referees and 121 are FUFA badge holders.
The exercise acts as a criterion to qualify them for all FUFA sanctioned leagues and tournaments as the Azam Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League,FUFA Uganda Cup, FUFA drum, regional leagues, district leagues, among others.

Ronnie Kalema an Exexutive member and Chairman Referees Committee commissioned the exercise.
Hinting on the essence of the exercise, Kalema noted that fitness tests are imperative for qualitative representation of refereeing in the country.

Ali Kalyango, an Instructor described the exercise as an annual event aimed at preparing referees for national league games. According to him 98% of the invited referees passes the exercise.

This coming Wednesday, FUFA will announce the successful 16 centre referees to officiate in top flight league whose kick off will be confirmed in the coming days.
They will be assisted by 32 Assistants making the number 48.
The remaining number will officiate other leagues (FUFA Big League, Regional Leagues and District Leagues).
Airtel FUFA Female Player of the Year Fazilah Ikwaput will see her side Olila take on Eastern Heroes on 11th February in Soroti.She Corporates will play Western United on the opening weekend of the 2nd round FWEL.

The opening matches of the round of 64 stage for the 44th Edition of the FUFA Uganda Cup were held on on Saturday and Sunday at the various venues across the country.
Express Football Club, Kansai Plascon and Nyamityobora registered the biggest scorelines in their respective matches played.
The Red Eagles humbled visiting Kachumbala Rock Stars 6-0 at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium with Micheal Birungi on the score sheet three times.
Kansai Plascon were 6-1 winners at home to visitors Butyaba Red Stars in another one sided game.
Nyamityobora also registered a 5-0 away win to Pallisa Young. Striker David Kizza grabbed a hat-trick for the Mbarara based club now coached by former Uganda Cranes international, James Odoch.
The biggest shock came on Sunday as Kampala regional club, Kampala Junior Team (KJT) ejected Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) 1-0 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Midfielder Nicholas Kabonge was on target for Mansoor Kabugo’s KJT.
Steven Ategeka, Baker Buyala and Abdallah Nyanzi scored for Alex Isabirye’s coached Soana in their 3-0 victory away to Ntoda.
Elsewhere, Sula Ssebunza was the day’s hero for Bright Stars away to FUFA Big league club, Vura in Moyo at the Chelechele grounds.
At the Nyakasanga play ground in Kasese, Uganda U-20 striker Hamis Tibita was the lone scorer with the only goal on 74 minutes as BUL beat home side Sun City.
The FUFA Competitions department will convene and pass a ruling on the clubs that failed to travel for their away engagements.
Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) Hippos did not make the trip to Masavu in Entebbe, Kataka failed to honour the away tie to Lira United and Light S.S was a no show in Arua against Onduparaka.
The other matches for the round of 64 will be played next weekend.
