    2016 CAF Awards: Uganda Cranes, Onyango and coach Micho nominated

    Uganda Cranes, goalkeeper Dennis Onyango and head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic have been nominated for the 2016 Glo – CAF Awards.

    Uganda has been nominated for the team of the year alongside DR Congo, Senegal, Nigeria U-23 and Guinea Bissau among the best achievers of the year, 2016.

    The Uganda Cranes defied all the odds to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon 2017 for the first time in over 38 years.

    This was after finishing second in group D in a group West Africans Burkina Faso led by mere head to head record.

    Micho is among the five best coaches from whom the winner will be chosen.

    The other four are; DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge, Mamelodi Sundowns Pitso Mosimane, Mo Bejaia head coach Nacer Sandjak and Florence Omagbemi, the head coach of Nigeria’s women national team.

    Dennis Onyango has been nominated among the best African based players.

    The winners will be announced at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala scheduled for Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.

    How winners will be determined:

    The winners will be decided by votes from the CAF Technical & Development, Media Committees and a panel of 20 experts (Journalists, TV consultants) except Fair Play, Legend and Platinum awards, which are not subject to vote.

    For this year, there will be no votes for the Youth National Team of the Year.

    For the catergory of the referee of the Year, the winner will be voted only by the CAF Referees Committee.

    32 attend football administration course in Njeru

    Football Administration and Management Course organized by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in conjunction with Tangosport Uganda commenced on Friday at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru and will run till  Sunday 11th Dec.

    In total, 32 participants from the 8 FUFA football regions embarked on the course which has been designed in partnership with the renowned sports company Tangosport Uganda to develop football management skill-sets and provide participants with the latest management techniques and administration practices.

    The 3 day course is specifically catered for future senior management of the football teams, Government sports institutions among other targeted organizations.

    ‘FAMACO is a significant milestone for Tangosport, FUFA and our Member Associations. Our people and Member Associations represent an integral part in bringing to life our aspirations to the local Federation’ said  FUFA Education Officer Jackson Nyima.

    While Tangosport Director Joseph Mutaka said this course will help to build a firm foundation when it comes to football development in Uganda.

    ‘With emphasis on cultivating best practices, FAMACO not only reinforces our belief in developing talent in the region and Uganda as a whole, but also strengthens the foundation for us to develop world-class administrators who will transform our Vision into reality’ noted Mutaka

    This is the second FAMACO course organized by Tangosport under the auspices of FUFA

    WADA releases list of prohibited drugs, FIFA advises Member Associations to adhere to the modifications

    World Soccer governing body FIFA has cautioned its Member Associations to be very vigilant following WADA’s release of a modified list of banned drugs with effect from 1st January, 2017. The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) through the World Anti Doping Code released the list.

    In a strong communication from Zvonimir Boban Deputy Secretary General cautioning various stakeholders in the sport, FIFA is urging the players and officials to keep the beautiful game as clean as possible and win fairly.

    ‘FIFA wishes to remind its member associations, the confederations, as well as all players, clubs and player support personnel that the World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List 2017 and Methods issued by WADA will take effect on 1 January 2017. A summary of the modifications to the 2017 Prohibited List, including the 2017 Prohibited list is enclosed’ said Boban

    ‘FIFA would like to remind all players that it is their duty to ensure that they do not take any forbidden substances and should inform themselves if in doubt regarding products and substances’ added Boban.

    The Uganda national beach Soccer team-Sand Cranes left for Tanzania with heads up.

    They are eager to return home with positive results.

    The team was officially flagged off by the FUFA Executive Committee member and also chairman FUTSAL and Beach Soccer Committee, Samuel Mpiima at FUFA House in Kampala.

    Th Sand Cranes under the administration of the current FUFA President have already played against team like Zanzibar, Ghana and Kenya. It will be the first time that the Sand Cranes are facing Tanzania.

    However National team representation in beach soccer started under the reign of Eng. Moses Magogo as the head of football in Uganda.

    Uganda also has three beach soccer referees Ivan Kintu Bayige, Shafic Mugerwa and Senteza Muhammad. Kintu Bayige who was voted the best referee at the FUFA Awards last Friday at Munyonyo, will be heading to officiate at the Africa Beach Soccer Championship in Nigeria mid this month.

  • FUFA mourns demise of Executive member Hamid Juma’s son

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) deeply mourns the demise of the son for Executive member Hamid Juma that happened on Monday evening.

    Abdul-Khadeer Juma passed away at 6.30pm yesterday.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo noted;

    The Almighty has plans for every one of us on earth. Our Executive Committee member is away to Dubai on official duties to plan for Uganda Cranes ahead of the 2017 AFCON Finals in Gabon. Losing a member of a family is sad news.

    We send our condolences to the family of Hamid Juma following the death of his son.

    Abdul Khadeer will be laid to rest at the Kololo Muslim cemetery on Tuesday at 2pm.

    Uganda’s best referee of 2016 heading to Nigeria for continental duty

    New kid on the block Ivan Kintu Bayige’s shining star is taking him places. Fresh from winning the FUFA referee of the year award last Friday at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Bayige is not taking things for granted.

    Before the awards, Bayige has already received communication from CAF informing him of his selection as one of the referees who will officiate at the 2nd edition of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2016 in Nigeria running from 13th-18th December.

    The 29 year old Bayige, will be the only Ugandan referee assigned for duty at the continental show piece. The just concluded Africa women Nations Championship in Cameroon didn’t have any Uganda representation in the refereeing area while the  2017 AFCON Finals in Gabon will not have any either.

    Bayige is one of the three Beach Soccer referees in Uganda (the other two are; Senteza Muhammad and Shafic Mugerwa). Bayige beat seasoned FIFA referees Brian Nsubuga Miiro and Mark Ssonko to the award last Friday.

    Bayige has embarked on rigorous training as he tunes himself up for the 2nd edition of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2016.

    Bayige started refereeing in 2013 after being spotted by Hamid Juma (the then Chairman of Beach Soccer and Futsal Committee) and he says he got the inspiration to push on in the game from great names in the sport like Ali Mwebe who the only Certified CAF Beach Soccer Instructor in Uganda.

    Bayige attained the FIFA badge in 2015 and he has gone on to officiate at international level (AFCON Beach soccer qualifiers in 2015 Mauritius vs Mozambique, Mauritius vs Ivory Coast), Beach Soccer World wide African Championship in Durban, South Africa.

    As 2016 winds up, he will be in Nigeria but he has already handled Tanzania vs Ivory Coast and Madagascar vs Mozambique all in the 2016 AFCON qualification campaign.

    The Uganda national beach Soccer team-Sand Cranes is set to play Tanzania National team this Friday in Dar es Salaam. A 20 man contingent will make the long trip by road starting today afternoon at 3pm.

    However there will be official send off  of the team at FUFA House  on Tuesday afternoon at 2 O’clock. Modern Coast bus will pick the entire delegation of the Sand Cranes from FUFA House in Mengo.

    ‘This is a great opportunity for the players to show their skills again against another team in the region. We thank the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo for giving us another opportunity to play across the boarders’ said Uganda Beach Soccer Association Chairman Deo Mutabazi who will also travel with the team.

    Ten players including the newly crowned FUFA beach soccer player of the year Somoka Roch will make the trip.

    Onduparaka captain Shaban Mohammad and Kawempe Muslim S.S’ Hasifa Nassuuna won the respective male and female most valuable player of the year accolades.

    Shaban, scorer of 30 goals in the season (16 in the FUFA Big league, 7 coming in the Uganda Cup, 7 so far in the Azam Uganda Premier League and 4 in the Uganda Cranes regional tours) scooped the male best player of the year.

    He guided his club, Onduparaka to the Azam Uganda Premier League as captain and club top scorer, was joint top scorer in the Uganda Cup and was voted the FUFA Big League best player.
