Abel Dhaira: Football will miss the young goalkeeper

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has joined the rest of the local football fraternity with tributes for the fallen goalkeeper Abel Dhaira who succumbed to cancer on Sunday in Iceland.

The news for the death of Abel came in a few days after FUFA and the family of Dhaira had held special prayers and kicked off a fundraising drive in Walukuba in a bid to save his life.

‘Dhaira was a magnificent goalkeeper with so many tricks and always put on a smile irrespective of the results for his team’

‘We are saddened by the death of Dhaira and football will miss a keeper many people loved seeing saving penalties’

FUFA will go ahead with earlier plans for Uganda Cranes players donning t-shirts carrying messages which had been designed in support of Dhaira wishing him a quick recovery.

A minute of silence will also be observed before kick-off of the 2017 AFCN qualifier between Uganda Cranes and Burkina Faso at Mandela National stadium.

Match officials from Madagascar and Tanzanian Commissioner Rwiza Kishogole will be informed during the pre-match meeting about plans of honouring Dhaira.

Burial details will be communicated in due course.

    Rest In Peace Abel Dhaira

The President of the Republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended financial assistance of UGX 300M as partial contribution towards Uganda Cranes for the two matches against Burkina Faso in the 2017 AFCON Qualifying campaign.

The support comes in as a timely boost to the National team which flew out of the country last night to Ouagadougou for Saturday’s qualifier before they return home for another fixture to complete the double header action against the same opponent.

Although there still a financial deficit of the budget for the two matches, the funds received will ease financial pressure but Government has promised to give more support to FUFA towards the two fixtures.

‘HE The President has keen interest and is a number one supporter of the Uganda Cranes. FUFA is extremely delighted for the timely support’ said FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo

‘The financial support will galvanise our preparations.’ added Magogo.

Uganda Cranes tops Group D with six points. Government support towards the Uganda Cranes in the last two years has seen the team post very good results including back to back wins against Togo in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers.
