    Uganda vs Burkina Faso: Prayers held for Cranes at National Mosque

    The National prayer weekend organised by various religious denominations and FUFA for Uganda Cranes rolled off on Friday afternoon at the National Mosque, Old Kampala.

    The service is one of the four organised this weekend aimed at seeking divine intervention from the Almighty as Uganda Cranes prepare to play double header fixtures against Burkina Faso on 26th in Ouagadougou and 29th March at Mandela National Stadium.

    The sermon at the National Mosque was led by one of the Imams Sheikh Ali Juma Shiwuyo while Sheikh Rajab Hussein Kakooza led the prayers.

    The Deputy Mufti Sheikh Hatwib Mukuluwakika represented His Eminence Mufti Sheikh Shaban Mubajje who is away in Morocco on official duties.

    ‘Islam has promoted sports in this country. We are behind this cause and the Almighty will answer our prayers. Let us all be patriotic while handling matters of National concern especially the Uganda Cranes’ said the Deputy Mufti Sheikh Hatwib.

    ‘Sport brings joy and sadness but we are here to pray for the National team as they prepare to play Burkina Faso. We need to support our players’ said the Imam of the day Sheikh Shiwuyo during prayers.

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo talked to the attendants of the Friday prayers that seeking the Almighty’s support is a sign that Ugandans are God fearing people.

    ‘Our team has not qualified for the AFCON finals since 1978. We have never stopped seeking guidance from God. We are in a good position after winning two games’ said FUFA President.

    He added ‘Your support is crucial to the success of the team in the next 11 days and let us all urn up in big numbers at Namboole on 29th March’

    The FUFA President also visited Bilal FM where he given time to talk to the listeners of the radio.

    FUFA launched the ‘Mujje Tulumbe’ campaign geared towards rallying huge support from all Ugandans irrespective of religion, tribe, colour and wealth status, with Cranes set to play the West Africans on 26th and 29th March, 2016.

    The prayer weekend will continue on Sunday with services at Rubaga Cathedral, Namirembe Cathedral and Victory Church, Ndeeba.

    Uganda U-20 National team coach Kefa Kisala has released the initial squad for the Africa U-20 qualifier against Rwanda in April.
    Kisala’s youngsters will start training with one group working out on Friday with the Uganda Cranes players at Namboole stadium while another set of 18 on Saturday at the same venue.
    Kisala will be helped by other coaches on the U-20 set up who are; Richard Wasswa, Arthur Kyesimira and goalkeeping coach Daniel Kiwanuka

    Religious leaders in Uganda have responded in affirmative to FUFA’s request for National Prayer weekend dedicated to the Uganda ahead of the two crucial 2017 AFCON Qualifiers against Burkina Faso.

    The latest development comes after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) wrote to the various religious leaders seeking for divine intervention.
    The prayer weekend request to the religious groups was Friday 18th -Sunday 20th March, 2016.

    FUFA launched the ‘Mujje Tulumbe’ campaign geared towards rallying huge support from all Ugandans irrespective of religion, tribe, colour and wealth status, with Cranes set to play the West Africans on 26th and 29th March, 2016.

    The Uganda Cranes and other players of the same religion will pray from areas designated to FUFA by the religious groups.

    ‘We are glad that our requests have been honoured. We are looking forward to making the National prayers a success. We encourage all Ugandans to pray for the National team-Uganda Cranes’ said Ahmed Hussein FUFA Spokesperson.

    The Imaam at the National Mosque-Old Kampala Ali Juma Shiwuyo welcomed the idea.

    ‘It is important to put God ahead of everything. Even if the results turn out to be good or bad, you will look back to God for His decision’ said Imaam Shiwuyo.

    The FUFA Big League returns to action on Thursday, 17th March 2016 with eight fixtures on Card.

    Four shall be played in the Elgon group and the other set in Rwenzori.

    Zombo based Paidha Black Angels who overcame Kira Young 4-1 at the Kira Town Council play ground stayed within Kampala and travel to Luwero on Thursday to play Ndejje University football club.

    Kira Young themselves embark on the journey to Hoima district where they take on Boma Young at the Boma play ground.

    Artland Katale hosts Bukedea Town Council at the Mashariki High School, off Entebbe road.

    The other Elgon group game is at the Lango sports ground when Sporting United hosts Water F.C.

    In a key Rwenzori group game, Wandegeya is at home to table leaders Proline F.C at Kanyanya play ground.

    Entebbe F.C is away to Nyakasanga where they will play Sun City meanwhile, Kirinya – Jinja S.S has traveled to Masaka where they will play the home side, Synergy at the Masaka Recreational stadium.

    Three clubs shall be promoted to the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    The best clubs per group at the end of the season will qualify directly to the top league with the third club determined via a promotional play off.

    FUFA Women football officer, Hadijah ‘Lady Mouriouh’ Namuyanja told the media during the Wednesday Press conference that FUFA has already planned for the district qualifiers.

    ‘The district qualifiers will be played on Friday, 18th March 2016. The top three teams will qualify to play at the 2016 Mama Becca Cup. FUFA has already bought all the trophies that will be awarded to the various winners. Each region will get 20 footballs’ Namuyanja said.

    District qualifiers will be held in Entebbe, Jinja, Iganga, Kawempe, Kampala, Rubaga, Makindye and Nakawa.

    The tournament finals will be played on Saturday, 27th March 2016.

    The FIFA Member Association (M.A) Referees and Assessors’ Elite course has continued with the physical drills in Jinja.

    The course is set to run for six successive days between Sunday, 13th up to 18th March 2016.

    On Monday morning at 7am, physical fitness tests and sprints rolled off.

    Following last Friday’s league games (3), the top flight division in the country, Azam Uganda Premier League returns on Tuesday with six games on the menu.

    The Saints F.C host Sadolin Paints at Namboole with yet another target at hand, to seek maximum points as they continue with the desperate fight against relegation.

    This match will be live on Azam TV. Patrick Senfuka is subject to a late fitness test as two of The Saints players – Yasin Mugume and Hassan Musana recover from the long Arua trip when they traveled with the national team to the West Nile regional tour on Friday and Saturday.

    Lweza plays host to URA at Wankulukuku in the other game hardly 48 hours after winning 4-1 in the Uganda Cup against Kamuli Park.

    Current league champions, KCCA F.C is at their Nakivubo stadium home to Stubborn Soana.

    JMC Hippos hosts Express at the intimidating Bugembe stadium in Jinja.

    At the Champions Stadium in Mwerewe, Bright Stars is at home to Jinja side, BUL F.C in what proves to be an epic battle.

    Bright Stars has had an impressive start to the second round winning two and drawing once.

    They are expected to welcome back three of their key players – team captain Bernard Muwanga, goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya and Joseph Nsubuga who were with the national team at the Uganda Cranes regional tour of West Nile.

    BUL had two players – Milton Karisa and Yunus Sibira on the national team.

    UGANDA CUP 2015/16:

    ROUND OF 16: Lweza 4-1 Kamuli Park

    Lweza Football club became the fourth club (after Hope Doves, Soana and Bright Stars) to progress to the quarter finals of the Uganda Cup.

    Lweza won 4-1 over visiting Kamuli Park at the Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Sunday.

    Rajab Kakooza scored in the 7th minute to see Lweza, who are coached by former Uganda Cranes midfielder Joseph Mutyaba take the lead.

    Hassan Kikoyo got the second after 18 minutes before Mustafa Kiragga registered a personal double on the day scoring in the 70th and 90th minutes of the game.

    Ibrahim Kazinda pulled a goal back for the visitors deep inside injury time.

    The FUFA Competitions department will communicate when the remaining games will be played.

    FIFA Member Associations (M.A) Referees & Assessors’ Course has rolled off at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Sunday.International Football Governing body FIFA together with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) are holding a week long Member Associations (M.A) Elite Referees and Assessors’ course in Njeru at the FUFA Technical center.The course is set to run for six successive days between Sunday, 13th up to 18th March 2016.Samuel Egesa, the FUFA Referees Manager says the course started on Sunday with medical tests.On Monday morning at 7am, physical fitness tests and sprints will roll off.

    ‘There after the Assessors and Referees will be taken through various class lectures that will comprise of theory and practical sessions’

    Two experienced doctors Ahmed Ddungu and Robert Opika-Opoka handled the referees’ medical test exercise.

    The course will climax on Friday 18th March 2016 with Fufa President Engineer Moses Magogo expected to preside over for the closing ceremony.

    The course is handled by three FIFA referees instructors; Carlos Henriques (Regional Development Officer from Gaborone), Felix Tangawarina (Technical Instructor from Zimbabwe) and Mark Mzengo (Fitness Instructor from Malawi)

    West Nile 1-0 Uganda Cranes

    The Uganda Cranes  four match unbeaten run came to a halt when a determined West Nile side won 1-0. The home side had promised to give the national team a run for their money and they indeed gave their fans great memories to cherish forever.

    Second half substitute Sizza Olega who had replaced former U-17 National team striker Muhammed Shaban scored the only goal of the game in the 70th minute.

    Earlier striker Rashid Agawu had a goal bound shot hit the cross bar.

    James Alitho started in goal for Uganda Cranes Regional team before he was replaced by Mathias Kigonya in the 30th minute.

    Kigonya later paved way for Proline young goalie, Keni Saidi in the 60th minute.

    Uganda Cranes created a series of chances through out the game but the defence of the home side and goalie Nisar Kasim remained solid.

    The Cranes technical department used two different sides for either halves of the game.

    Sc Villa Jogoo were back to Mandela National stadium for the first time in over 10 years for a continental fixture. This time, the Jogoos-winners of the Uganda Cup 2014/2015 were playing Zanzibar’s JKU on Saturday afternoon in the first round preliminary round, 1st leg.

    The Jogoos never disappointed their fans as they put up a gallant show to win 4-0 against JKU.

    Villa’s goals were scored by Mike Ndera, Mike Serumaga, Umar Kasumba and Godfrey Lwesibawa.

    Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has released the two teams set to play the West Nile region at the Green light play green on Saturday.

    Micho has planned to use two different line ups for the game intended to rally support for the national team and also help in the preparations ahead of the up-coming AFCON double header against Burkina Faso.
