CHAN 2016 Finals: Uganda Cranes train at Umuganda stadium

Faruku Miya led his teammates to the Umuganda stadium as Uganda Cranes trained for the first time since leaving Kampala on Saturday evening. It was the same stadium used by Uganda Kobs (U-23) when they beat Rwanda 2-1 last year when Miya scored one of the goals.

The training session saw Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and his players in a jolly mood as they went about their drills.

Goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba was handling the youthful custodians Mathias Kigonya, Isma Watenga and Alitho James.

The cold weather was not a hindrance to the team’s training session as the players enjoyed the newly laid turf at the stadium for 60 minutes.

Cranes training came shortly after Group D opponents Mali at the CHAN Finals had just finished their session.

‘We are here on a mission and we know what our fans expect from us. We are not under any pressure but we know our abilities’ said Micho shortly after the team’s training session.

Uganda will hold their final and official training session on Monday evening at 6.45pm after conducting a press conference at 5.30pm Local time (6.30pm in Uganda).
Meanwhile CAF Officials briefed the Ugandan contingent on various guidelines of the tournament plus the 17 laws of the game.

The session was held at Belvedere Hotel and centres on marketing, media, dress-code, laws of the game, players’ discipline, equipment and fair play.

  • Makumbi was a humble, dedicated servant in the sports media -says FUFA President

The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo  believes that the sports media fraternity has lost a very humble and dedicated person in Mark Makumbi. The Sports presenter who passed on yesterday after long battle with cancer at Mulago Hospital leaves behind a strong legacy.

At the time of his death, he was still employed at CBS FM. He also worked for Radio Sapientia based in Nsambya.

On behalf of the FUFA President, Executive, Secretariat and all Member Associations, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of Makumbi and the staff at CBS FM on the loss of a man who served the sports media wholeheartedly.

    CHAN 2016 BUILD UP:

    UGANDA CRANES 0-0 CAMEROON

Uganda Cranes had drawn goal-less with Cameroon in the second build up before the CHAN 2016 finals in Rwanda.

Like the first build up game three days earlier against Gabon, the game on Wednesday was played behind closed doors.

Uganda’s best chance of the first half fell to Richard Kasagga whose header off Joseph Ochaya’s corner was cleared off the line by Alexandre Kombi.

The visitors were a great taste for Uganda given the physicality and speed – similar to the kind of opposition expected at CHAN Rwanda where Uganda is pooled alongside Mali, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Cameroon’s Junior Mfede shot the post but it was the hosts with the best chance to wrap up the game with an indirect free-kick that Martin Kizza was fouled in the forbidden area.

Uganda departs for Rwanda on Saturday.
