FUFA-UEFA Women in Leadership Workshop gets underway

Even in the General Assembly, we used to have one or two women but a resolution was made four years ago to have their number increase and we now have more than ten.’ Said the President.

He also highlighted the importance of having women in leadership roles because they have unique values.

‘Women naturally come along with unique values which men may not have. We were all raised by mothers and the challenges they through to nurture us, I believe could present them as good leaders. I therefore urge football to embrace women and let us interest them in loving football.’

The President also lauded UEFA for the continued support towards Uganda and hopes these interventions will have lasting impact on the game of football.

‘We are grateful to UEFA for the continued support in various areas. The good relationship between FUFA and UEFA has already paid dividends in the past and I believe this workshop will have a positive impact in transforming football in Uganda.’

Head of International Relations at UEFA Eva Pasquier thanked FUFA for always cooperating and implementing the strategies put in place.

‘I want to express gratitude on behalf of UEFA and my own behalf to FUFA for the good relationship. Actually, we appreciate that Uganda is one of the best nations in Africa in terms of structures and strategies and we hope this intervention will equally be resourceful.’ She stated.

Rogers Mato scored a late winner as Uganda Cranes edged past Tanzania on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam.

The game played at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium saw Uganda defeat Tanzania 1-0 to boost their chances of qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mato came off the bench and provided the decisive moment of the game deep in stoppage time.

The closely contested game had limited scoring opportunities for either side but it was Mato who came out the hero scoring in the first minute of the four added minutes.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic made four changes from the team that started on Friday last week in Egypt.

Timothy Awany replace Livingstone Mulondo at the hear of defence ans started alongside Halidi Lwaliwa.

Bobosi Byaruhanga, Isma Mugulusi and Richard Basangwa all started ahead of Siraje Ssentamu, Faruku Miya and Fahad Bayo in that order.

There was indeed improvement in performance from the lads marching Tanzania pound for pound.

The game had a long halt eight minutes before the break following a challenge with the floodlights and it took 30 minutes for the referees to resume play.

In the second half, coach Sredojevic made further changes bringing on Bayo, Mato and Miya and Travis Mutyaba.

The introduction of the trio made instant impact and Uganda kept surging forward in search for a goal.

The breakthrough eventually came in stoppage time with Mato receiving a through pass from Miya before slotting past goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

AFCON Qualifiers 2023: Cranes upbeat ahead of Tanzania encounter

The start for Uganda Cranes in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers may be sloppy at the moment but not all is lost.

Uganda has been able to pick one point from the opening three games in Group F and thus the remaining games are all crucial if qualification is to be achieved.

The reverse fixture against Tanzania on Tuesday at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium is a make or break for the Cranes.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic is fully aware of what is at stake and he thinks his charges have put the loss on Friday last week behind them and ready to open a new chapter.

‘One detail can take you to hell and the other can take you to heaven and that is what happened in the last match. We now have chance for redemption in this game and we are coming here to fight for maximum points.’ He said.

“I have full trust in the players and they know how crucial this game is and are hoping for positive results.” He added.

Captain Emmanuel Okwi has no love lost for the Tanzanian people with majority of the players for Taifa Stars his close friends.
