RWANDA VS UGANDA: Kobs ready, flight changed again as team returns tonight

    2016 Africa Olympic Qualifier
    Saturday second round, first leg
    Rwanda v Uganda

Live on 102.1 FUFA fm at 4.30pm (Uganda time)
For Coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojeovic, today’s second round Olympic qualifier between Rwanda and Uganda is a personal test against a country he coached in football.

Micho has come as the tactician behind the junior and senior football teams in both countries and the Serbian has insisted his current allegiance to Uganda is not only because he wants to protect his job but out of genuine love for football.

He had to battle to pick his last 18 out of the 25 players in camp. Indeed every one of the players is enjoying top of their game status and for Micho it cannot come as good as it is now.

The team arrived in Kigali safely, booked in Sports View Hotel and had a feel of the match venue on Friday at Amahoro stadium.

‘Rwanda is also going to field the future of their football but I believe this (squad) is the future of Ugandan football. We just need to prove to Rwanda that we are really better than them’ said Micho

Kobs goalkeeper Salim Jamal, team captain Farouk Miya, Keziron Kizito and Tom Masiko have attracted so much attention from the local media in Kigali.

Meanwhile Uganda Kobs will fly back tonight after another change was made on the team’s flight schedule. The initial communication today had indicated that the team would return tomorrow. Kobs will land at Entebbe International Airport at 10.30pm.

In a related development FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo arrived at Sports View Hotel in Kigali where the Uganda Under 23 team, The Kobs is accommodated ahead of the Saturday match against Rwanda U-23 at Amahoro Stadium.

Lwere returned on Thursday last week from Cairo where he had been for the FIFA/CAF Regional Seminar for National security officers which started on 12th May and ended on 14th May, 2015.

Lwere believes the seminar was of great value to the federation.

‘Now that I have acquired new, unique skills and knowledge, expect improved security measures at the games. I will share this information with other committee members for the success of events’ said Lwere.

FUFA will handle a marathon of local and international matches in the coming three months and Lwere says the seminar came at the right time.

‘We have matches in the Africa U-23 Championship, CHAN and AFCON qualifiers so we promise to use these techniques acquired from Cairo to the satisfaction of our stakeholders at the games’ added Lwere.

FUFA WOMEN ELITE LEAGUE: Luwedde’s strike ends Kawempe’s unbeaten run

Saturday: Gafford 1-0 Kawempe at Cleveland
Saturday: Eastern Heroes 2-0 Kakira in Soroti
Sunday UCU 1-0 She Corporates in Mukono
Sunday Western 1-1 Wakiso in Mbarara
Sunday  Ajax 1-2 She. Mak. St. in Bulenga

On the eve of the Gafford-Kawempe Muslim match, head coach Henry Barungi revealed that his players had a special plan to contain leading scorer Sandra Nabweteme.

In Saturday’s game, Fatumah ‘Kamunye’ Luwedde did the damage as she  netted the game’s solitary goal late in the second half to end Kawempe’s 5 match unbeaten run. The result also meant that Kawempe conceded their first goal of the season.

Having signed new players and also improved on their technical bench with tactics after the FIFA Women coaching course at the FUFA Technical centre, there are signs that many teams will be a hard nut to crack.

In the first round, when the two teams met, Kawempe trounced Gafford 5-0 with Sandra Nabweteme (14 goals this season so far) netting a hattrick.

All eyes were on Nabweteme after her school had just won the National schools girls football championship in Mbarara. She scored 37 goals.
