    FIFA Football Agent Regulations

    The Federation is pleased to inform members and relevant stakeholders of the new FIFA Football Agent Regulations (FFAR) that were approved by the FIFA Council on 16th December 2022. The new FIFA Agent Regulations replace the FIFA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries and introduce a new licensing procedure for one to become a football agent.

    The FFAR came into force on 9th January 2023 as far as articles that relate to the process of obtaining a licence are concerned. The remaining articles which relate to acting as a football agent and the obligations of football agents and clients will come into force on 1st October 2023.

    Members and relevant stakeholders are therefore informed that if you wish to become a football agent in Uganda or if you wish to continue acting as an agent for those that were licensed by FUFA as intermediaries, you shall be required to obtain the FIFA Football Agent License. Upon receipt of this license from FIFA, you shall be authorized to conduct football agent services anywhere in the world.

    To obtain a license to act as a football agent, you are required to do the following:

    • Submit a complete application via the FIFA Agent Platform on https://agents.fifa.com/

    • Comply with the eligibility requirements (cf. art. 5 of the FFAR)

    • Successfully pass the football agent exam conducted by FIFA (cf. art. 6 of the FFAR); and

    • Pay an annual fee to FIFA (cf. art. 7 of the FFAR)

    As indicated above, one of the new requirements under the FFAR is that one must successfully pass the exam. Anyone who wishes to become a football agent is informed that the exam will be conducted by FIFA and will be delivered online. FUFA will only be responsible for the logistical and administrative duties in relation to the exam. With effect from the 1st October 2023, no one shall be able to carry out services of a football agent here in Uganda or anywhere in the world unless they possess a FIFA Football Agent License.

    There will be two FIFA football agent exams in 2023. The first exam will be conducted on 19th Aprill 2023. Applications for this exam are already ongoing on the FIFA Agent Platform and the deadline for applications is 15th March 2023.

    The second exam will be conducted on 20th September 2023. Applications for the second exam will open on 1st May 2023 and the deadline for applications is 31st July 2023.

    All interested members are therefore invited to log in to the FIFA Agent Platform at https://agents.fifa.com/ and submit their applications.

    FUFA Women Super League: Uganda Martyrs braced for Kampala Queens challenge as Kawempe’s upturn faces Makerere test

    FUFA Women Super League enters matchday 13 this weekend with five games lined up and as always the games are expected to offer thrilling action.

    Whereas the League title race is virtually over, the battle for safety is intense with about eight teams in the relegation mix.

    Uganda Martyrs returned to winning ways last weekend against She Corporate and will be oozing with confidence going into Saturday’s clash against leaders Kampala Queens.

    Coach Edward Kasozi believes the win gives them confidence going into the game against Kampala Queens.

    “We feel motivated after picking victory over She Corporate. This gives us confidence heading into the game against Kampala Queens.” He stated.

    Uganda Martyrs are second on the log on 22 points, 12 behind leaders Kampala Queens and victory for the latter will but seal the title race bearing in mind there are only six games to the end of the season.

    Kampala Queens on the other hand come to Lubaga on the back of a draw with Makerere University, the first time they lost points this season.

    Coach Hamza Lutalo is unfazed by the recent blip and is optimistic his charges will return to the rails come this weekend.

    The reverse fixture in Kabojja ended in a 4-1 win for the Queens of Soccer.

    In the other fixtures lined up, Kawempe’s recent resurgence will be put to test this Sunday as they take on stubborn Makerere University.

    The Warriors have had a remarkable run in the second round, winning two and drawing the other and coach Moses Nkata attributes this performance to different factors.

    “When we went into the break, we looked at some of the challenges and I’m happy that some have been addressed and that explains our performance in the second round.”

    “Makerere are a boggy side and getting a point off Kampala Queens tell you how tough they are hard to overcome. But I’m confident the players will do the job and secure maximum points.” He said.

    Fred Ndawula the Makerere coach is equally confident going into this game having picked a point off table leaders Kampala Queens.

    The first leg encounter between Kawempe and Makerere ended in a one all draw.

    In the other FUFA Women Super League games lined up this weekend, rejuvenated Rines make a long trip Masindi to take on Lady Doves, Asubo Gaforrd Ladies will hope to continue with their relegation fight as they play Olila High School in Soroti while the University derby between UCU Lady Cardinals and She Corporate pits two teams seeking to find stability.

    Ugandan Referees receive FIFA badges for 2023

    Ugandan Football referees have today received their FIFA Badges and equipment for this year.

    A total of 24 referees from eleven-aside football, futsal and Beach Soccer were approved to get FIFA badges this year.

    In the function held at FUFA Complex on Friday, FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim handed over the badges to the referees. National elite referees also attended the same event.

    He was flanked by FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye, FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, FUFA Executive Committee Members Ronnie Kalema and Rogers Mulindwa.

    Other dignitaries included FUFA Referees Standing Committee Chairperson Brian Miiro, FUFA Deputy CEO-Football Decolas Kiiza and Uganda Premier League CEO Bernard Bainamani.

    In his address to the referees, the President first reminded the referees about FUFA’s strategy that is hinged on three key pillars.

    “In our strategy as FUFA called the Hat trick, emphasis has been put on three key aspects namely; reaching every homestead, professionalization of the game and achieving world sporting excellence, ” he started.

    “On the sporting side of the game, there are three key components; players, coaches and referees. Therefore, refereeing is a crucial in football development. So as referees, you must understand that you are part of development. When you fail, it is not me but rather football as a whole. Whenever you are on duty, you are judge that should be impartial.”

    The President also took time to tell the referees to always stick to the principles and ethics of their calling.

    “You are going to make mistakes because you are human but these three principles must be maintained at all times. Fitness, Integrity and Performance. When you’re a FIFA Referee you have to conduct yourself in a manner that befits an international Referee. Avoid being in situations that are going to expose you.”

    He assured referees of protection whenever they do right but also told them disciplinary measures will be put into effect for intended mistakes.

    ”We have agreed to protect you whenever you’re right and we are proud of those moments you have taken correct decisions. We are all human beings that make mistakes but if someone makes a mistake intentionally then disciplinary measures have to be taken.” The President stressed.

    Brian Miiro, the Chairperson of FUFA Referees Standing Committee told the referees to seize the opportunity and perform their duties with integrity at all times.

    ”We have given out the FIFA badges to Futsal, Beach Soccer and eleven aside FIFA Referees. We have emphasised Integrity, Fitness and Performance when on duty. I’m confident that this is a determined group that has undergone various trainings and ready to execute their work.” He said.

    AFCON Qualifiers 2023: Uganda Cranes provisional squad for Tanzania double header named

    Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin Sredojevic has summoned a provisional squad for the forthcoming double header against neighbors Tanzania.

    Uganda will play against Tanzania home and away later this month in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

    The squad named is comprised of 30 players and will start preparations next week. It should be noted that Uganda will host Tanzania at Suez Canal Authority Stadium on 24th March before facing off in Dar es Salaam four days later.

    First, the locally based players summoned will play a regional tour game against Kitara region next week. Such games are aimed at bringing the national team closer to Ugandans.

    The aforementioned game will take place on Friday, 17th in Bundibugyo district.

    The team will enter residential camp on Wednesday, 15th March at Cranes Paradise Hotel, Kisasi before traveling to Bundibugyo on Friday.

    The regional tour game will be used as a precursor for the forthcoming double header against Tanzania.

    Some of the selected players from the regional tour game will travel to Egypt on Sunday.

    The foreign based players summoned will join the rest of the squad in Cairo direct from their respective clubs.

    FUFA Big League: NEC host Kitara as battle for top spot continues

    FUFA Big League action enters matchday 20 and like the previous weeks, the fight to secure promotion slots goes on.

    The top position has in the last two weeks oscillated amongst four teams including Kitara, NEC, Police FC and Mbarara City.

    Therefore, as Kitara and NEC face off this Thursday at Bugolobi Coffee Ground, the target for either side will be to open up gap at the top.

    The aforementioned two teams come into this game level on points (37) same as Police who are third.

    Michael Lukyamuzi, the NEC FC head coach indicates they will treat this game like any other.

    “The League is tight and every game comes with its own pressure. What we do is to prepare the players to go and fight for maximum points,” Lukyamuzi said.

    “It is our first season in the FUFA Big League but we have the ability to overcome any opponent and at the moment we are looking at game per game.” He added.

    His counterpart Sam Ssimbwa indicates he is not under pressure going into this game but will be hoping for a good result on the road.

    “I expect a tough encounter against NEC. They are a good team and we must have a good approach to overcome them.”

    The reverse fixture played at Kigaaya Primary School Playground saw Kitara win 2-0 with David Kasaija and Edson Agondeze scoring.

    In the other games to be played on Thursday, Police visit Kyetume in Nakisunga. The latter lost their previous outing to Kaaro Karungi.

    Calvary host Ndejje University, Kataka entertain Mbarara City who are just a point behind the leading pack.

    Booma take on Adjumani TC while Kaaro Karungi make a daunting trip to Lira to face bottom placed Northern Gateway.

    Chairperson FUFA Judicial Commission attends Women in Football Leadership Programme

    The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) representative at the Women in Football Leadership Programme (WFLP) in Switzerland Dr. Taibu Azah is elated by the levels of football around the globe. The WFLP workshop is taking place this year from 6-10 March and will coincide with International Women’s Day on 8 March.

    Dr. Azah was nominated by FUFA to take part in the programme after meeting the necessary requirements set for any participant to be enrolled for the workshop.   

    She is the Chairperson of the FUFA Judicial Commission that supervises all activities of the FUFA Judicial Bodies.

    The WFLP is designed for women in football who have the potential and motivation to progress into senior leadership positions within their organisation or are already in such roles.

    Participants work on and discuss aspects of leadership, while also focusing heavily on self-awareness and how this can support their career development.

    With the coaching included during the programme week, participants are challenged in both personal and professional aspects. Organised in collaboration with FIFA, the programme also provides a platform for exchange and networking between participants with a rich variety of backgrounds.

    As part of the programme this year, which is a joint initiative with UEFA and delivered by IMD Business School, 36 women from all six confederations will come together this week to take part in the workshop.

    In line with FIFA’s overall vision and strategy to develop and grow women’s football on and off the pitch, the workshop aims to be a learning platform for women working in football structures that will educate, empower and create a stronger network for female administrators in the game.

    FUFA Women Super League: Kampala Queens pegged, Gafford, Rines win to boost survival hopes

    Matchday 12 of the FUFA Women Super League offered thrilling action across all the five games played over the weekend.

    Makerere became the first team to deny Kampala Queens maximum points this season.The two sides played out a one-all draw at IUIU Kabojja on Sunday.

    In a game where coach Hamza Lutalo made changes in the starting XI, Makerere showed resilience to pick a point off the run away leaders.

    Primah Mugidde, Dorcus Nabufu and Jamirah Nabulime who rarely get playing time all started. There was also a League debut for new signing Joan Nabirye.

    Shamirah Nalugya fired Kampala Queens in the lead just three minutes after the break.

    She made a perfect run to connect home from Hasifah Nassuna’s defence splitting pass.

    Makerere found the equalizer through Husna Mpanja moments later.

    Despite picking a point, the University side remain in the drop zone. second from bottom on 12 points.

    Kampala Queens on the other hand keep a firm grip at the summit on 34 points from 12 games.

    Uganda Martyrs return to winning ways with a 2-0 win against She Corporate on Saturday.

    Captain Catherine Nagadya orchestrated the victory, scoring a goal in either half.

    This was the first win for the Lubaga based side in the second round, taking them to 22 points in second place.

    She Corporate on the other hand will have to worry about relegation going forward. The Sharks in 6th position are just two points adrift the drop zone.

    In the other games played over the weekend, Rines SS secured a 2-0 win over Olila High School thanks to Amina Nababi’s brace.

    Asubo Gafford Ladies secured their second successive win, edging UCU Lady Cardinals in the five goal thriller.

    Evelyn Nassuna scored twice while defender Fatuma Nakasumba got the other to guide Rogers Nkugwa’s charges to victory.

    They remain bottom on the log on 10 points but not far from safety if the recent form is anything to go by.

    Hadijah Nandago and Shakirah Nyinagahirwa scored a goal each to help Kawempe Muslim win 2-0 at home against Lady Doves.

    AFCON U20: End of the road for Uganda Hippos

    Uganda Hippos journey at U20 Africa Cup of Nations agonizingly came to an end on Thursday after falling to Nigeria in the quarterfinal clash played at Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

    The painful defeat meant an end to the attempt at qualifying for the U20 FIFA World Cup.

    Despite putting up a formidable performance on the day, Uganda Hippos did not get the much desired cutting edge.

    The decisive moment of the game was an own goal by left back Ibrahim Juma.

    Coach Jackson Mayanja made changes to the team that had faced South Sudan in the final group game.

    Juma, Isma Mugulusi, Ivan Irinimbabazi and John Paul Dembe who were all rested on Sunday returned to the starting XI.

    Uganda started the better side marching Nigerians for the bigger part of the game.

    Dembe had the first attempt of the game, testing the Nigerian goalkeeper in the sixth minute.

    Two minutes later Rogers Mugisha has his effort deflected for the first corner of the game.

    The resultant corner nearly gave Uganda the lead with Irinimbabazi’s powerful header but goalkeeper Chijoike Aniagboso parrying the ball away.

    It was Nigeria that broke the deadlock at the half hour mark through Juma’s own goal.

    Ibrahim Muhammad’s strike on the left hit the goal post before deflecting off Juma’s sheen.

    Uganda kept surging forward in an attempt to find the equalizer before the break but all in vain.

    At the start of the second half, coach Mayanja made two changes bringing on Umar Lutalo and Saidi Mayanja for Titus Ssematimba and Mutyaba respectively.

    Mayanja came close to finding the equalizer twice while Dembe too had an effort at goal but could not find the outlet.

    Nigeria defended resiliently to hold onto their lead and proceed to the semifinals.

    FUFA Big League: Police, Kitara win to go joint top

    Police FC and Kitara FC moved to the summit of the table in the FUFA Big League after securing victories on Matchday 19.

    In the game played on Thursday, Police swept aside Calvary while Kitara edged past Lugazi to move to 37 points and join NEC FC at the top.

    The Cops earned the biggest victory on Thursday, overcoming Calvary in Kavumba with a 4-0 scoreline.

    Hassan Kikoyo, Reagan Male, Abdul Nsereko and Dennis Kalanzi scored a goal each for Police.

    The Cops however ended the game with a player less after goalkeeper Davis Mutebi was sent off at the stroke of halftime.

    Sam Ssimbwa got a sigh of relief after earning his first win since taking charge last month.

    Kitara fought hard to overcome Lugazi in Masindi thanks to David Kasaija’s lone goal.

    NEC could not stretch the lead at the top after playing out a one-all draw against Mbarara City in the top of the table clash.

    The Army side had taken the lead through Jonathan Ssewankambo before Henry Kitegenyi found the equalizer for the Ankole Lions.

    Mbarara City now drop to fourth place on 36 points, one behind leaders Kitara, NEC and Police.

    In the other games played on Thursday, Booma defeated Soroti City with Moses Kasagga finding the goal.

    Northern Gateway overcame Adjumani TC. 3-2 in the relegation six pointer while Kaaro Karungi edged past Kyetume.

    Action continues on Friday with Ndejje University hosting Kataka while Kaaro Karungi will return to action on Sunday against Luweero United.

    Uganda Hippos quest to play at the FIFA World Cup continues this evening at the ongoing AFCON U20 tournament with a tie against Nigeria in the quarter finals at Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

    The Hippos have a grand opportunity of writing history by becoming the first football team in Ugandan football to play at the global stage.

    A number of players like skipper Isma Mugulusi, Ibrahim Juma and Ivan Irinimbabazi who were rested in the previous match against neighbors South Sudan return for the crunch game against Nigeria.

    Head Coach Jackson Mayanja reaffirmed the target of the team that is qualifying for World Cup during the pre match press briefing.

    “From the time I was given the role as Hippos coach I made it clear that qualification to the World Cup is the goal. We have come along way and now closer to it. We play Nigeria which is a strong side but we know what this match means to us. It is a game that can turn around Ugandan football, change our lives, especially for the players.” He said.

    Skipper Mugulusi who was with the Hippos in Mauritania and played at this stage vowed to use his experience to lift his side.

    “It is a big game against a big nation with history but we also want to write history. We are going to go all out, leave everything on the pitch because this is the moment we have been waiting for.”

    The last time the Hippos played at the quarter finals at the AFCON tournament came against Burkina Faso, progressing to the semifinals on penalties.

    The winner between Uganda and Nigeria will book a ticket to the U20 FIFA World Cup to be played between May and June this year in Indonesia.

    FUFA Big League: Mbarara City, NEC face off in top of the table clash

    The battle for top spot in the FUFA Big League gets tighter every matchday with about four teams in contest.

    Matchday 19 will not be any different this Thursday with Mbarara City, NEC, Kitara and Police all in action.

    Second placed Mbarara City host leaders NEC in a top of the table clash at Kakyeka Stadium.

    Ankole Lions played out a goalless draw at Lugazi in their previous outing, a result that saw them surrender the summit to NEC.

    The Army side on the other hand edged past Ndejje University at home thanks to captain Marvin Kavuma’s sole effort.

    NEC lead the table on 36 points, one above Mbarara City FC.

    Third placed Kitara who have drawn all the three games in the second round will be hoping to secure their first win under new manager Sam Ssimbwa as they host Lugazi in Hoima.

    Police FC in fourth place have the same number of points (34) as Kitara and victory at home against Calvary would brighten their hopes of returning to top flight football.

    In the other games to be played on Thursday, Adjumani TC host Northern Gateway in a relegation six pointer.

    Adjumani are second from bottom on 17 points, six above Northern Gateway who sit at the base of the log.

    Luweero United host Jinja North United while Kaaro Karungi take on Kyetume FC.

    Friday will see Ndejje University host Kataka while Kaaro Karungi will return to action on Sidnau against Luweero United.

    Make Them Smile Again: FUFA CSR campaign attached to 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup launched

    “Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.” This is a famous quote by author Roy T. Bennett.

    FUFA equally believes that football is not just a game. It can transform society through various aspects.

    It us upon this background that a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign is attached to every season of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

    For the fifth time, the campaign returns for the 2022/23 season that is at the round of 16.

    FUFA Events Manager Leilah Nankya lauched this year’s campaign and it will run under the theme ‘Make them smile again.’

    “For the fifth year, we are running this campaign to show that football can make a positive impact on society. For every final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, we look at donating clothes and other items to the less privileged people in the region where the final is played.” She stated.

    “I call upon the general public, sponsors and the corporate world to be part of this cause. We shall have collection centres where clothing items will be received.” Added Nankya.

    The FUFA Corporate Social Responsibility drive attached to Stanbic Uganda Cup came into effect in 2016 and has benefited to the following people as below.

    The draws for the round of 16 of the 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup have been successfully conducted on Tuesday with teams identifying their next opponents.

    The draw function was held at FUFA Complex in the presence of the FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.

    Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Sadiq Wassa also graced the occasion and shared his story in the prestigious knockout competition.

    “I’m privileged to have won the Uganda Cup both as a player and a coach. This competition is worth winning because knockout games are always thrilling. I therefore thank FUFA for inviting me to be part of today’s function.” He said.

    Wassa won the Uganda Cup as a player at KCC (now KCCA FC) in 1990.

    “I remember SC Villa had won the League and were aiming to clinch a double. They had beaten us in midweek to lift the League title and we had to face them in the Cup final over the weekend. Luckily, we defeated them and denied them a double.” Wassa reminisced.

    The former shot stopper also went ahead to lift the Cup twice as a goalkeeping coach at URA FC in 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons.

    Hon. Nakiwala lauded the sponsors for sticking with this competition, indicating their arrival brought a big improvement.

    FUFA Competitions Director Hajjat Aisha Nalule indicated the date for the game between SC Villa and BUL will be communicated.

    “We received a decision from the FUFA Judicial bodies about the game between BUL FC and SC Villa and a date on when the game will be played shall be communicated soon.”

    Nalule also confirmed that Kisugu United was eliminated after Paidha Black Angles won the petition for the former’s use of ineligible players.

    In the draws conducted, Wakiso Giants will face rivals Vipers in the Wakiso derby, KCCA FC will be at home to Mbarara City FC while Soltilo Bright Stars will take on Kiyinda Boys.

    In the other fixtures Police FC take on Ndejje University, Express FC will host Paidha Black Angels, Adjumani TC FC face Bunyaruguru while Calvary FC will be at home to Kitara FC.

    The winner between BUL FC and SC Villa will visit Onduparaka FC.

    The round of 16 fixtures will be played between 11th -17th March 2023. Every team at this stage is assured of a cash prize of UGX 3M.

    At the same function, the FUFA Corporate Social Responsibility campaign attached to the Stanbic Uganda Cup was also lauched.

    According to FUFA Events Manager, Leilah Nankya, this year’s theme is “Make them smile again.”

    “This is the fifth year that FUFA has attached a CSR campaign to the Uganda Cup. Football is beyond just a game and that is why we look at making a positive impact in less privileged communities where the final is hosted,” she said before adding, “we shall collect clothing items and donate them in Lira City where the final will be played. Therefore, I call upon the general public, sponsors, fans and the corporate world to embrace this cause.”

    BUl FC are the reigning Winners of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, having clinched this title in Masindi last year.

    The FUFA SACCO that was established by a resolution of the FUFA AGM of September 2019 in Adjumani held its first Annual General Members’ meeting on Monday 27th February 2023 at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.

    The assembly was chaired by the SACCO Chairman Mugoye Darius flanked by other committee members who included; Ariga Rasoul (Vice Chairman), Mutabazi Deo (Treasurer), Hajjat Nalule Aisha (General Secretary) and Oryem JJ Innocent (member).

    The SACCO that officially started its operations in August 2020 currently boasts of an impressive 126 membership categorised as delegates (53), Secretariat Staff (57) and FUFA Excom (16) who have collectively amassed over a half billion shillings in the 30 months.

    Members’ savings are made in 3 categories; Bronze (100,000/-), Silver (150,000/-) and Gold (250,000/-).

    It was started with the primary objectives of; fostering a culture of joint saving amongst internal football stake holders, advancing the socio-economic welfare of members, promoting of financial growth and stability of members, educating members on the effective utilisation of the loans/credit for personal and group development.

    In the brief period of its existence, the FUFA SACCO has hard a series of benefits amongst which have been; pooling of funds for individual and joint investments, provision of safety nets for stakeholders, reduced financial stress incase of emergencies, encouraging the growth of a saving culture among internal football stakeholders, ability to attract booster funds from FUFA, Government of Uganda financial institutions among others is one of the anticipated benefits of the SACCO.

    During the AGM that was also attended by the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, FUFA ExCOM members Ronnie Kalema and Issa Magoola; different delegates and secretariat staff the committee that has been serving had its mandate extended for another 2 years.

    Mugoye who is the 2nd FUFA Vice President said that his committee will be looking forward to hitting may targets like reaching a billion shillings pool and bringing on board new members.

    Round of 16 Fixtures

    After successful completion of the round of 32 over the weekend, the fourth edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup will move to the next stage.

    With all the 16 teams now known and the road map well laid out, the fixtures for the next round are also confirmed.

    Two fixtures pit teams from the FUFA Women Super League namely; Kawempe Muslim taking on UCU Lady Cardinals and She Corporate hosting inaugural winners Olila High School.

    Kawempe Muslim will host UCU Lady Cardinals.

    To reach this stage, She Corporate who played the final in 2018, routed Dynamic Jjeza 5-0 and this was the biggest winning margin at the round of 32.

    Olila on the other hand edged past Golden Impact, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Sheila Galenda and Immaculate Ailingat.

    In the other all-FUFA Women Super League affair, 2018 Winners UCU Lady Cardinals will visit Kawempe Muslim having eliminated Gold Star at the round of 32. The latter ejected Taggy SS thanks to goals from Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Hadijah Nandago.

    In the other round of 16 match-ups, holders Makerere University will visit Isra Soccer Academy, Kampala Queens will face FC Tooro Queens, Rines SS will entertain She Maroons while Uganda Martyrs will make the trip to Fort Portal to take on She Game.

    Asubo Gafford Ladies who played the final of the inaugural edition will visit GYCO Girls while Lady Doves will play against St. Noa Girls.

    Games played over the weekend

    She Corporate and Kawempe Muslim are some of the teams that secured their slots into the round of 16 for this year’s FUFA Women’s Cup over the weekend.

    With nine slots taken prior to the weekend, only seven were up for grabs in the games played on Saturday and Sudnay at various grounds.

    Like it was the case a week ago, the big wigs took care of their respective opponents to sail through with releative ease.

    In Bukerere, Mukono, She Corporate obliterated Dynamic Jjeza, winning 5-0 thanks to goals from Susan Atim, Cissy Nakate, Anita Arinda, Noeline Namiiro and Barbara Adwero.

    Kawempe Muslim also overcame Taggy SS, winning the game 2-1. Hadijah Nandago and Shakirah Nyinagahirwa scored a goal each for Warriors.

    Elsewhere, She Game from Fort Portal City stunned Lango Queens at Buhinga Stadium. Normal time ended 1-1 but the former won 4-2 on penalties.

    Sharon Kanyiginya let FC Tooro Queens off the hook against a resilient Lubaga WFC side. The teenage striker got the lone goal of the game to send her team through.

    Isra Soccer Academy were 3-0 winners over Kyambogo University while Lady Doves also eased past Bunyaruguru Girls, winning 3-1.

    AFCON U20: Uganda Hippos top Group B, to face Nigeria in quarterfinals

    Uganda U20 Men’s National Team finished top of Group B at the ongoing U20 Africa Cup of Nations after playing out a goalless draw against South Sudan on Sunday at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

    The Hippos came into the final group game well aware that a quarterfinal berth had already secured and that partly explains the changes coach Jackson Mayanja made in the starting XI.

    The gaffer made five changes from the team that had played against Congo on Thursday.Skipper Isma Mugulusi, John Paul Dembe, Ivan Irinimbabazi, Haruna Lukwago and Ibrahim Juma were rested.

    This paved way for Ronald Madoi, Umar Lutalo, Frank Katongole, Issa Bugemba and Travis Mutyaba to start.

    Travis Mutyaba was named man of the match.

    Despite getting numerous scoring opportunities, the game ended in a barren stalemate and the result meant Uganda and Congo were equal on every footing including points and goal difference.

    CAF had to draw lots to draw lots after the final group games on Sunday to decide on who tops Group B.

    In the draw conducted at Cairo International Stadium, Uganda was picked from the pot (hence won the lot) to finish top.

    Topping the Group meant Uganda will face Nigeria who finished second in Group A. The Quarterfinal game will be played on Thursday, 2nd March 2023.

    Coach Mayanja indicated they are still on the right course of qualifying to the FIFA World Cup.

    “The most important moment was qualification to the Quarterfinals. Our main target as a team is to qualify for World Cup. We have one more game against Nigeria to achieve it.” He said

    It should be noted that the four teams to reach the semi-finals will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
