    Kyebando vs KASE

All roads will on Wednesday lead to Kazo Primary School sports ground when bitter rivals Stegotta and St Mary’s football clubs face each other in one of Kampala regional league fixtures.

The two teams have a long and well documented history of typical contemporary football rivalry.

Perhaps, on paper, Stegotta F.C has a slight edge having come top in 3 of the last 4 fixtures between the two Kawempe regional teams. (The other encounter ended in a draw).

Muhammed Ssenfuma, head coach at Stegotta F.C believes it is the time, they continue with the dominance.

‘We have to maintain the status quo of Stegotta F.C as we look forward for qualification to the FUFA Big League having missed narrowly the previous year’ said Ssenfuma.
Batte Sheif, the current league top scorer with 8 goals in 8 matches
Batte Sheif, the current Kampala Regional league top scorer with 8 goals in 8 matches

The Kazo based team looks forward to the safe gloves of former Bright Stars F.C goal keeper, Sharif ‘Kamodi’ Ssozi, Sulaiman Kato, Juma Kafeero and boast of the league top scorer in Seiff Batte (with 8 goals after 8 matches).

St Mary’s on the other hand, looks to the goal scoring prowess of a 16 year old scoring sensation – Faizo Ssekyanzi.

The teenager-a Senior three student has seen the back of the net 7 times in his club’s 9 encounters so far.

Other stars for the Nabweru based club are goal keeper, Fredrick Kyaggaba and Edward Kikolo.

Edwin Nshuti, Stegotta chairman acknowledges; “It is always a fierce battle when the two sides meet and this is healthy for the sport”

    What is at Stake?

Besides sheer pride at stake for the two clubs, there is a place to play for in next season’s FUFA Big League.

Of all the teams in the Kampala Regional league, there is only one slot for promotion to the FUFA Big League – Uganda’s second highest tier league after the Uganda Premier League (UPL).

Back Ground To The Bitter Rivalry Between the 2 Teams:

    • Both clubs hail within the same vicinity.
    • There has been a bold battle line that has been time immemorial been drawn between who holds the bragging rights in the area.
    • Whereas Stegoota F.C has a better head to head record (3 Victories and one draw over St Mary’s), St Mary’s therefore believe it is the time to revenge.
    • Stegotta F.C believes St Mary’s illegally acquired their player, Yaffesi Mubiru, the previous season.
    • The player was a subject of hot discussion between the two sides over ownership. He has since joined Express F.C.

  • FUFA TECHNICAL DIRECTOR: A combination of factors will help Cranes qualify for big tournaments

    By Joseph Mutaka in Jinja

In a bid to see Uganda Cranes qualify for the continental premier soccer show piece, FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa believes that the country has got to embark on different programs to achieve success.

According to the former Uganda cranes coach, Lubowa has a feeling that a combination of factors will help the country kill the long wait of 36 years since Uganda last took part in African Cup of Nations finals.

While speaking to Fufa.co.ug at the FUFA technical Centre in Njeru where he is coordinating the CAF ‘B’ coaching course, Lubowa says apart from conducting the routine human resource empowerment programmes, a lot has to be done by various stakeholders.

‘Coaching is not the only program which will help us achieve our goals but a combination of factors will’ says Lubowa.

‘Other federation programs like equipping the entire human resource with required knowledge and skills, well organized structures for youth football and senior leagues, good sports facilities and equipment. Government policies that favor the game in the country will see us get back to the greater heights’ added Lubowa.

Lubowa further said ‘This is a project that needs time to bear fruits for such ideas to be implemented place’
Lubowa is one of the five instructors conducting the CAF ‘B’ Coaches course in Njeru.

    Weather hinders practical sessions

Despite the CAF B coaching course moving according to plan, the sunny weather is hindering the smooth running of the practical sessions.

‘The weather is not user friendly to enable us effect the practical sessions. The weather has forced us to adjust on the practical and theory time sessions but will be managed’ revealed the FUFA technical director Lubowa.

The CAF B coaching course will climax on January 25th with the CAF ‘A’ takes center stage at the same venue from January 26th- 31st.
Tanzanian CAF instructor Sunday Kayuni, who arrives on 21st January, 2015 will examine the participants.

Several workplaces need highly qualified personnel or people with a combination of skills and experiences. Sport-especially football is not different from such work places.

So, Ugandan coaches are also expected to welcome changes happening thick and fast in the game of football globally.
In most cases, coaches are under pressure to deliver  if they are the most highly qualified in their fields of operation.
The local soccer governing body has already set standards for coaches into next season.

It will be mandatory for the elite clubs in the Uganda Premier League to employ only CAF B licensed coaches.
The ongoing course (CAF B at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru), officially opened FUFA Vice president Justus Mugisha on Monday morning, has left many coaches excited as it entered day 3 today (Wednesday).

What the coaches are saying about the course.

Kefa Kisala (Head Coach BUL FC and Uganda Cranes Assistant Coach)
‘It’s a good course because we have studied a lot of new things so far which I think will be helpful to us in the near future. We have to cope with the modern football technicalities and this is one of the platforms to use’

    Hadijah ‘Lady Mourinho’ Namuyanja
‘As coach of U-17 Women national team, I am really delighted with FUFA and CAF for having brought this course closer to us because it’s going to help me uplift my C.V, refresh my training tactics and also emphasize being the best coach in the region’

‘Football is a dynamic game therefore we need to upgrade every now and then to catch up with the modern trends and technicalities of the game’

Alex Isabirye (Head coach URA FC)

Ssali ‘Pelle’ Tom (Kings College Buddo)

  • FUFA STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM: Vice President Ssekandi to grace Symposium

FUFA STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM: Vice President Ssekandi to grace Symposium

FUFA STAKEHOLDERS’ SYMPOSIUM: 23rd January 2015

    Venue: Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala (8 a.m – 5 p.m)

The first ever FUFA Stakeholders’ Football Symposium will be opened by the Ugandan Vice President, Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

FUFA had originally invited His Excellency, President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has delegated Hon. Ssekandi.

The workshop will take place on the 23rd January 2015 at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Thekey note presenters will include the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, Airtel Uganda Marketing Director, Prasoon Lal, Uganda Cranes Head Coach, Milutin Sedrojevic, Emmanuel Maradas (England). Former Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi has also been contacted.

    Background of the Workshop:

Following Uganda Cranes yet another near miss qualification for the 2015 Nations cup finals, many questions were raised by different stakeholders.

What happened? Where did it go wrong? When did we lose the campaign? Which ingredients were missing? Those were some of the many questions in the aftermath of the Cranes game against Guinea in Morocco.

Definitely it was a somber mood for all the football stakeholders who had their hopes high with the belief that 2014 was the year for Cranes to make the Nations cup finals for the first time since 1978.

FUFA was on the receiving end following Cranes failure to qualify.

The local soccer governing body took the blame but had to think deep especially to try and find out what actually could have gone wrong.

Like it has been, FUFA’s cultured way of handling football issues by involving every stake holder and various schools of thoughts, a symposium was mooted out by the Federation’s President Eng. Moses Magogo and his Executive to dig up the problems that have affected our game and what could have contributed to Uganda’s failure to qualify for the Nations cup finals for close to four decades.

There was little time to digest the problems however FUFA felt it necessary to hold a symposium aimed at identifying Uganda’s football problems.

It should be noted that a lot of emphasis will be given to the champions between now and 2019 that include the CHAN, Olympic Games, All Africa Games, international friendlies, CECAFA, 2017 Nations cup qualifiers and 2018 World cup Qualifiers.

FUFA believe efforts towards the above mentioned football fixtures would culminate into a successful ‘Project Cameroon 2019’.

The Workshop is expected to deeply analyze why since 1978 Uganda has not been able to qualify and attempt to obtain the Country Agenda for the PROJECT CAMEROON 2019.

Presentations will be from various stakeholders inclusive of Government and football persons from countries that always qualify.

    Committee for the Symposium :

FUFA Vice President Justus Mugisha (Chairperson), Kennedy Mutenyo (Coca Cola), Patrick Mugumya (The Saints FC), Mark Namanya (Media), Norah Nassimbwa (State House), Sam Mpiima, Dr. Patrick Benard Ogwel (FUFA Executive Member), Rogers Mulindwa (FUFA Delegate), Sumaya Hood (FUFA Secretariat), Esther Musoke (FUFA Marketing Manager), Aggrey Ashaba and Axam Senkayi.

    Chief Guest:
His Excellency, The vice President of the Republic of Uganda Hon. Edward Ssekandi

    Specific Objectives of the symposium:

    i. Identify problems of Uganda’s football

ii. To share ideas on problems which have affected Uganda’s football since 1978 and try and find to solutions

iii. Find ways of converting our potential (talent endowment) to a final product.

iv. Utilization of various football stakeholders to support and develop the game

Participants: Groups representative of various football stakeholders-FUFA, Government, sponsors, Media, Fans, Ex-former Cranes players, active players, etc

-Invited Guests from Government, corporate world

FUFA is the main sponsor of the Symposium. Others are Airtel Uganda (Uganda Cranes Main sponsors), Post Bank Uganda Limited, Nile Breweries Limited and Jude Colour Solutions.
