Carrying a 2 – 1 lead is every joy to any team tactician.

But again, it presents a slim advantage as this result can be overturned.

As Uganda U-17 national side-The Cubs face their counterparts from Seychelles in a 2015 U-17 Nations cup return leg qualifier, the match presents a plat form for either team to fight a little as they battle for the next stage qualification phase.

    Team news:

    Uganda Cubs:

Ever since triumphing 1- 2 away in Seychelles, team Uganda has been camping at the Njeru Technical center where they played two build up games.

The team is boosted by the addition of midfielder, Ashraf Mugume, who passed the MRI test on Thursday morning. Mugume joined the rest of the squad in the afternoon during the luncheon hosted by the UFA President Engineer Moses Magogo at Sojovalo Hotel in Rubaga.

They will however miss through injury the services of St Joseph’s College Layibi student Luwalo Kipper, a midfielder, who has been based in Canada where he had gone for professional trials.

Mombasa based Striker, Imran Mpaata will also sit out the match having suffered a sprained ankle in training.

There was a smile on the faces of everyone in the Ugandan camp as team captain, Andrew Isiagi Okiring, based in Carlsie, U.S.A made a remarkable recovery from malaria.

‘Andrew (Okiring) is fit to play and lead team Uganda once again after being passed fit by the medical team’ confirmed head coach, Matia Lule to www.fufa.co.ug

    Probable team:

Matia Lule is expected to name a formidable line up that will face the Seychelles side. But he has kept the cards close to his chest.

Buddo s.s goalie, Eric Kibowa is expected to be maintained in the goal posts ahead of Ali Ramadhan Mwirusi and Edward Kasibante.

The defence line that started in Seychelles of Skipper Andrew Okiring (right back), Alex Komakech (left back) and the central defensive pairing of the towering Kato Nemeyimana and Bashir Asiku will be maintained.

The Opening goal scorer in Seychelles, Charles Ssebutinde will lead the quest for Uganda’s goal search  alongside proven and tested goal poacher, Muhammed Shaban as Vice Captain, Emma Olinga feeds them with the passes to kill off the visitors.

With National team stars like Christine Wanyana (Crested Cranes captain), Matovu Fatumah, Naume Nagadya, Dorothy Nakato, Nakitto Gladys and Winnie Babirye, the Corporate XI was a class apart as one of their players Babirye went on to hit a hat-trick in her team’s 8-1 defeat of defending champions Muteesa I Royal University. Babirye leads the top scorers’ chart with 10 goals to her name.

    Bulenga

Nile special to cater for all players’ training and match allowances

Tour starts on the weekend of 27th-29th June

The Uganda Cranes fans country wide are set to catch their heroes in action when the National team kick off its tour of the FUFA eight regions. Under the codename ‘Cranes Na Mutima’ with the full funding by Nile Special Cranes and spearheaded by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the project will help garner country-wide support for the team in the ongoing Nations Cup qualification encounters. The tour that kicks off in Western region on 29th June at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara was officially launched today at the headquarters of Moringa Ogilvy in Bugolobi.

Mbarara and Soroti are the Towns in the regions that have been selected to host the exhibition matches during the weekend of 27-29 June and 4-6 July respectively. During the tours, the Cranes will play exhibition games against the respective regional select sides.

Nile Breweries Sponsorship Manager Isaac Sekasi reechoed the fact the Cranes tour is only part of the larger Cranes na Mutima campaign, launched last month with the aim of rallying support for the national team.

‘We do not only want to rally fans to support the Cranes, we want them to do so with passion; na mutima. We want to reignite the fans’ passion for national team. We believe the tours will go a long way in ensuring this objective is achieved. The players will mingle with the fans while the most upcountry fans will also get a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the Cranes live in action. As the 12th players, we play a big role in the destiny and fortunes of our team,” said Sekasi.

“Our hope is that the tour will bring on board new fans and support the Uganda Cranes. This is the only way we are going to have better experiences of supporting the national and regional teams in future. Our team has always exhibited the true champion spirit by getting up after every fall, and that bodes well with our brand identity” he added.

Hinting on the other positive that may accrue from the tour, the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson commended Nile Special for the support towards the project.

“From this tour we intend to achieve more than one target. We shall be rallying fans but the technical team especially the national team coach will use this opportunity to assess various regional players that he has been informed about by the Fufa regional technical teams,” said Watson.
