    One of Uganda Cranes official partners Nile special, have today launched a campaign dubbed ‘Cranes na Mutima’ that seeks to rally support for the national team in the forth coming 2015 AFCON Campaign that kicks off this Sunday when Uganda plays Madagascar.  The launch was held at the company’s headquarters in Luzira.

    It was attended by the entire Uganda Cranes squad nd team officials preparing for the Sunday fixture, FUFA President Moss Magogo, FIFA Instructor-for Communications and Marketing Emy Casaletti and officials from Nile Breweries.

    ‘There is need to pick up our Cranes’ regalia and get behind teem’ said Nile special Sponsorship manager Isaac Sekasi.

    ‘We are aware of the heartache suffered by the nation following yet another nearly campaign last year. But this is our national team, We have to make a conscious decision to stick wit it no mater what happens. This is what we mean by Cranes na Mutima’ added Sekasi.

    In the campaign launched today, Cranes will tour three upcountry destinations and play exhibition games with regional sect sides. The regions earmarked include West (Mbarara), Est (Mbale) and North (Gulu).

    FUFA president Moses Magogo welcomed the tour referring to it as the perfect channel to reach every Cranes fan and grant them the opportunity to interact with the national team.

    ‘The team needs this positive vibe as it prepares for the tough qualification campaign. The players need to know that the rest of the nation still has faith in the team’s abilities to qualify for he next Nations cup finals’ said Magogo.

    Magogo fuether did that the tour is one of the means of paying homage to the various regions that have massively contributed to the national team over the years.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the bonus and allowance system for players and officials while on national team duty. The system that was revealed to the Uganda Cranes players at their residential base in Nalya, Sky Hotel today morning by the FUFA President Engineer Moses Magogo.

    Code 2

    The system becomes operational starting with this weekend’s qualifier against Madagascar.

    It will be included in the FUFA Financial Manual where players will be aware of their standard allowances and performance based bonuses.  The bonuses will be given to players for wins, draws plus ‘useful losses’ of matches.

    The standard allowances will be for daily training sessions, the matches and home upkeep.

    Magogo, who was meeting the Uganda Cranes players inclusive of the foreign based stars for the first time since becoming FUFA President, told the players that they are privileged to represent the country in a sport that is widely followed by the football fans.

    ‘The bonuses and allowances will be improved on depending on the availability of funds from our sponsors and partners. There is room for improvement’ revealed Magogo.

    Magogo’s presentation was in three phases where he addressed the players, explained the Code of conduct and remuneration.

    He told the players that they represent one of the biggest sports brands in East Africa and it is important for the team to conduct themselves in the best possible way to protect the image of Uganda Cranes.

    ‘The code of conduct helps to maintain the Uganda Cranes brand. If not well managed, we lose money and can’t attract sponsors’ said Magogo.

    He also reminded the players that the fans depend on the player’ action on the pitch and that is why it is important to perform to their best when selected by the head coach.

    ‘Uganda Cranes is a brand that affects many souls. So when given chance to play, make use of the opportunity and make the fans happy’ added Magogo.

    Magogo was flanked by the FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza and Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein. The FUFA Vice President and chairman Technical committee Mujib Kasule also attended.

    The Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich said he was happy that the President met the players.  The Serbian also welcomed the Code of conduct which spells out the dos and donts for players while on national team duty.

    He however cautioned players ahead of the game on Sunday.

    ‘Madagascar must be properly approached and respected and that is who we shall be able to enjoy the bonus and allowance system in this campaign’ said Micho.

    The meeting was also attended by Cranes striker Geoffrey Massa who will miss the game through injury.

    In today’s training session conducted at Njeru Technical Turf, Uganda Cranes tactician Milutin ‘ Micho’ Sredjovich stressed on various drills ahead of Sunday’s African Cup of Nations 1t leg second round qualifier against Madagascar.

    The Cranes will fly out on Friday morning aboard Kenya Airways.

    In his lunch hour sunny training session on the turf the Serbian concentrated his drills on agility of players, space awareness and creating and making use of the scoring opportunities.

    ‘We have to do all as we assess the players’ fitness levels, scoring abilities and their ability to create space during the game ahead of Sunday’s tie’ said Micho.

    He added that ‘The players have responded well playing on the turf’.

    In a related development Honorary Fufa president and CECAFA Vice Chairman Lawrence Mulindwa was one of the guests who attended the training. He briefly talked to the players and technical team.

    ‘Discipline is key to success in life. Respect and listen to your coaches to attain good result’ advised Mulindwa.

    ‘A team is complete when individuals work together with similar goals to achieve their objectives. ‘Stick to your roles and allow administrators to play their part’ stressed Mulindwa.

    Meanwhile Micho will reveal the traveling team tomorrow after the afternoon training session at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

    Uganda Cranes players on Wednesday afternoon trained on the artificial Turf at the Njeru technical center in Jinja.

    The two and a half hour session, was witnessed by FUFA Honorary president Lawrence Mulindwa who made a guest appearance.

    All the players in camp at the moment were involved at the training meant for them to acclimatize to the artificial turf conditions which are similar to where the match will be played in Mahajanga.

    ‘Training has been good with the players responding well to the artificial turf’ revealed Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevic.

    It was a full house in training with the exception of team skipper Andrew Mwesigwa who will fly straight from Khzastan and connect with the team at Nairobi.

    ‘It’s a little bit hard than natural grass but nevertheless the training was great’ Hassan Wasswa told www.fufa.co.ug as he spoke about the turf conditions shortly after training.

    FIFA’s Casaletti in Uganda

    FIFA Instructor Emy Casaletti arrived in the country on a mission to conduct an informative presentation to the FUFA Communications and Marketing department.

    Casaletti who has versed knowledge on African football having worked in South Africa and Zambia was sent by the world’s soccer governing body to guide FUFA on the aspects of marketing and communication with the bid of improving its image and generating more revenue for the association.

    Casaletti who was one of the guests during the official launch of the City Tyres Under 14 youth Football championship in Kampala yesterday, believes that there I huge potential for Ugandan football to bring in a lot of money to the sport.

    ‘Football is the number one sport in Uganda and this should be a good foundation to attract sponsors’ said Casaletti.

    The presentation was attended by the FUFA Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein, Communications and Marketing Director Helen Kirunda, Marketing Manager Esther Musoke and Marketing officer Hassan Mugerwa.

    Her visit will involve meeting FUFA’s current sponsors and potential financiers.

    Uganda Cranes players will on Wednesday train on the artificial Turf surface of the Njeru technical center in Jinja.

    ‘Training will be done at Njeru technical center at 2 pm (the exact match day time) to make the players acclimatize to the artificial turf conditions of the playing surface which are similar to where the match will be played in Mahajanga revealed team coordinator  Crispus Muyinda.

    Muyinda confirmed that the Cranes will have just one training session on the turf then return to their Sky Hotel base in Nalya later on Wednesday.

    ‘We have planned for one training session on the turf’ revealed Muyinda who also told www.fufa.co.ug that the players will also have a chance to train on th artificial turf in Madagascar.

    Meanwhile, the camp was boosted by 5 new players during the Tuesday evening training session at Namboole Stadium.

    Portuguese based pair of Alex Kakuba and Luwagga Kizito (both of Sporting Colviha football club) trained alongside the rest of the teammates.

    Thika United goal keeper, Hamuza Muwonge, who was put on the standby was finally called up and he attended the session.

    St George duo goal keeper, Robert Odongkara and Isaac Isinde arrived at the training ground at around 5:30 pm but just jogged around as advised by head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich

    Odongkara had a bandaged left knee following an injury in a domestic match against Insurance FC in the Ethiopian Premier league and he is closely being monitored by the medical team led by Doctor Ronald Kisolo.

    Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) football club has booked a berth in the final of the 2014 Uganda Cup after progressing over Jinja Municipal Council 4-1 on aggregate.

    The Jinja based side beat URA 1 – 0 at Kakindu Stadium but the result was not enough to overturn the 0 – 4 loss they suffered in the first leg at Mehta stadium in Lugazi last Friday.

     ‘It wasn’t an easy game but we managed to offer what we could and won at our home ground only that we couldn’t edge their goals in first leg’ said Jinja Municipal Council coach Charles Namakola. 

    Richard Wandyaka ‘s 87th’s minute goal for Jinja Municipal Council won the game for the home based side though it was little too late to help them progress. 

    ‘I wonder why Jinja Municipal Council is not one of the teams going to ply in the Big league play-offs. They have talented players an looked an organised team’ aid URA coach Paul Nkata.

    URA will now take on KCC FC on 7th June 2014 in the final that will be played at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

    KCC who are chasing a double eliminated defending champions, Sports Club Victoria University on Sunday 2 – 1 on aggregate.

    The winner of this cup will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederations cup next year.

    13th City Tyres Chenga Challenge Youth football tourney launched

    FUFA president Engineer Moses Magogo has praised Friends of Football (FOF) for playing a key role in the development of youth football in the Country. Magogo’s comments were made while presiding over at the launch of the 13th Edition of the City Tyres Chenga Challenge today at Mandela Auto Zone, 6th street Industrial Area.

    Magogo appreciated City Tyres for the wise and selfless investment in the project for since 2000.

    ‘With such a project, as a federation we appreciate the financial resources invested by City Tyres. But we shall come in to help with the human resource (youth coaches, referees), the monitoring of the discovered talents, identifying challenges and looking for alternative ways of establishing a status quo as a long term approach’ said Magogo.

    He added that FIFA is ready to support the development of football In Uganda as there are already plans to kick start the grass root football projects.

    The colorful but brief ceremony was attended by among others, the CEO of FUFA Edgar Watson, Chairman Mandela Group of Companies Hajji Omar Mandela, City Tyres MD Abdullahi Ahmed, FIFA instructor Emy Casaletti, Former SC Villa Chairman Franco Mugabe, the organizing committee and the members of the sports media.

    The regional finals of this years’ tourney will be kick off in Lira district, May 17th 2014.

    Speaking at the launch, Friends of Football’s director, Eddie Butindo hailed the sponsors, media, the federation and all the stake holders that have seen the tourney grow from strength to strength.

    ‘Our primary objective is to help develop youth football and this year alone we are targeting to reach 4700 boys’ remarked Butindo.

    Several fruits of the City Tyres U-14 football league have graduated through the system.

    Players like Tony Odur, Farouq Miya, Benjamin Ochan, Dan Sserunkuma, Mike Azira, Eric Kamya, Brian Omony, Yunus Sentamu to mention but a few are the vivid examples of the City Tyres league.

    Two new regional centers have been created-Arua and Masaka.

    The second leg of the 2014 Uganda Cup will be played today (Tuesday, 13th May 2014) at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.

    URA won the first leg 4 – 0 courtesy of a Moses Ali Feni brace, Saidi Kyeyune and Robert Ssentongo.

    The winner of the match will meet KCCA in the finals which will be played at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

    The date for the finals will be communicated later.

    CECAFA NILE BASIN: SCVU to face El Merreikh

    Ugandan representatives Sports Cub Victoria University (SCVU) have been drawn to play Sudanese giants El Merreikh in the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin Cup Winners Cup tournament that kicks off on 22nd May.  SCVU who bowed out of the Uganda cup on Sunday 2-1 on aggregate at the hands of double chasing KCC FC, will also play against Malakia of South Sudan and Polisi from Zanzibar.

    According to the CECAFA media officer Rogers Mulindwa, the tournament has attracted all the teams in the region except Eritrea who did not confirm an entry.

    ‘There have been invitations extended to Arab Contractors and El Masry of Egypt plus Sudanese sides El Merreikh and Al Ahly of Shandy City to take part in the tournament. The quartet accepted and was part of the draw’ added Mulindwa.

    The tournament venues will be in Khartoum, Shandy and the Red Sea-side city of Port Sudan.

    The mood in the Uganda Cranes Camp at Sky hotel was brightened as 9 players joined the team for the the day 6 training at Namboole Stadium later on Monday evening.

    Kenyan based midfielders, Aucho Khalid and Geofrey ‘Baba’ Kizito together with Dan ‘Muzei’ Sserunkuma reported.

    They were joined by the home based KCC and Sports Club Victoria University players.

    Left winger, Brian Majwega, midfielders Ivan Ntege and Gadaffi Kiwanuka represented KCCA while defender Savio Kabugo, goalie Benjamin Ochan and utility player, Denis Iguma were the other players who trained with the others.

    “We still expect more players but so far the training is moving on well”, Micho , who was joined by all his assistants, Kefa Kisala and Fred Kajoba (goal keeping coach) said.

    Martin Mutumba Kayongo who missed the Sunday training was part of Monday evening training session. Kira Young center half, Richard Kassaga who had suffered a knock in training last week was also back.

    Training resumes on Tuesday as more players are expected to show up for training. The Ethiopian duo of defender, Isaac Isinde and goal keeper, Robert Odongkara who play for St George are expected to join the team training on Tuesday.

    The Portuguese based pair of Alex Kakuba and Luwagga Kizito (Sport Colviha) arrived on Monday and will definitely be part of the Tuesday programme

    Uganda Cranes training session will have three more players today at Namboole stadium following the arrival of  Khalid Aucho, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Nile Special/USPA football player of the year Daniel ‘Mzee’ Serunkuma. The training session that is open to the public and media will be start at 4.30 pm.

    Uganda Cup Second leg result:

    SC Victoria University 0 – 0 KCCA (Agg: KCC 2 – 1 SC Victoria University)

    Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) football club’s chances of winning a double this season brightened after drawing 0 – 0 with the SC Victoria University at Namboole Stadium on Sunday evening.

    The aggregate score is 2 – 1 in favour of the league champions who advance to the finals.

    KCCA had won the first leg of the semi finals on Friday.

    The second last leg Semi final between Jinja Municipal Council and Uganda Revenue Authority will be played on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at Kakindu stadium in Jinja district.

    URA leads 4 – 0 from the first leg.

    Uganda Cranes’ defenders, Joseph Ochaya (Asante Kotoko) and Henry Kalungi (Richmond Kickers) boosted the national team’s camp as they trained with the rest of the players today morning at Nakivubo Stadium.

    Turkish based Martin Mutumba, who trained with the team at Lugazi on Saturday rested out due to fatigue but will resume training on Monday evening with the rest of the group at Mandela National stadium.

    Ethiopian based goalie, Robert Odongkara (with St George f.c) has made a timely recovery from injury and is expected to travel to Kampala alongside fellow St George Club’s mate, Isaac Isinde by Monday.

    The Kenya based professionals, Baba Kizito, Dan Sserunkuma and Aucho Khalid will join the rest of the teammates on Tuesday.

    2015 AFCON CAMPAIGN: Day 5 Cranes training moves to Nakivubo

    The Uganda Cranes will shift their training session today to Nakivubo stadium starting at 8am. Yesterday the national senior team preparing or the first lg second round qualifier against Madagascar in the 2015 Nations cup trained at Mehta Stadium in Lugazi.

    There is good news for head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich who will have two extra foreign based players in camp-Henry Kalungi and Joseph Ochaya after jetting in last night.

    The duo will join Martin Mutumba who arrived on Friday night and joined the team in the training session in Lugazi yesterday.

    The Uganda Cranes will play Madagascar on Sunday 18th May, 2014.

     

     

  • FUFA Big League: Mutundwe Lions make it to play-offs

    Mutundwe Lions 5 – 0 Vurra

    The Saints 3 – 1 Ndejje University

    As the regular season of the FUFA Big league concluded on  Saturday (10th May 2014), Rwenzori side Mutundwe Lions qualified to play the play offs alongside Baza Holdings as they beat Moyo based side, Vurra 5  – 0 at the Lubiri s.s play grounds on Saturday.

    Paul Muchwerzi netted a hattrick and Eric Bucha Ssebuguzi netted the other goals to help Mutundwe qualify for the play offs.

     The Saints football club beat Ndejje University 3-1  Namboole Stadium. Vianney Ssekajugo, Tonny Magala, and Paul Musana netted for The Saints before Sam Musimenta got Ndejje’s only consolation.

    Mutundwe Lions and Baza Holdings have qualified from the Rwenzori group while Jinja s.s and KJT have qualified from the Elgon group.

    With the top teams per group already having booked their slots to next season’s FUFA Super league, the play-off matches involving the 4 teams to battle for the only available slot will be played between May 21st – 24th 2014.

    Lweza qualified from the Rwenzori group while Jinja based side, Sadolin Paints qualified from the Elgon group.
