BUL FC are through to the semifinals after dumping out SC Villa from the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
In the Quarterfinal game played on Monday at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, BUL FC had to come from a goal down to win 2-1, including the winner coming deep into the second half of extra time.
Saddam Masereka got SC Villa ahead but Karim Ndugwa got the equalizer before a late goal from Ibrahim Nsimbe after normal time decided the contest.
Masereka fired SC Villa into the lead, scoring with a ferocious strike at the near post in the 20th minute.
Despite creating several attempts especially in the first half, the Jogoos failed to double their advantage.
BUL FC kept growing in confidence and eventually found the equalizer through Karim Ndugwa whose diving header beat goalkeeper Martin Ssekooto.
The home side had the opportunity to lead again before the break when they won a penalty in the 44th minute but captain of the day Saddam Juma fired it wide.
BUL were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when midfielder George Kasonko was sent off for a second bookable offence on Masereka.
Despite having numerical advantage, SC Villa failed to break past resilient BUL who forced the game to extra time and eventually getting the winning goal with four minutes to the end of extra time.
BUL join holders Vipers SC and Booma FC who booked their slots over the weekend overcoming Wakiso Giants and Maroons FC respectively.
The final quarterfinal fixture will come on Wednesday at Kakyeka Stadium with Mbarara City hosting Mbale Heroes FC.

Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarterfinal Results Booma FC 2-1 Maroons FC Wakiso Giants FC 1-3 Vipers SC
Stanbic Uganda Cup current holders Vipers SC booked a place in the last four after eliminating rivals Wakiso Giants FC in the Wakiso derby on Sunday.
The Venoms ensured their quest for an elusive domestic double remained on course by dispatching the Purple Sharks 3-1 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
2021 Airtel FUFA Male Player of the year Bobosi Byaruhanga opened the scoring midway through the first half before a second half double from Yunus Ssentamu sealed victory for visiting Vipers.
The hosts got their consolation late into the game through forward Sam Ssenyonjo who is on loan from KCCA FC.
Byaruhanga broke the deadlock in the 21st minute finishing off a well worked run that had Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye feeding the former for the opening goal.
Vipers SC doubled their advantage only five minutes into the second half with Ssentamu finding himself in the right place to finish off a Milton Karisa pass.
The ‘Hitman’ as popularly christened once again came punishing, getting his second of the day and Vipers’ third in the 80th minute.
The only positive for the home side came five minutes to the end of time with Ssenyonjo getting the consolation as the Purple Sharks got dumped out.
With just two points away from clinching the League title in the final five games, the Venoms will now have an eye and probably more emphasis put at winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup as well to add to the two they already have (2016 and 2021).
They join Booma FC in the semifinals. The Masindi based outfit stunned Maroons FC on Saturday to extend their fairytale run in this year’s edition.
Action continues on Monday with SC Villa hosting BUL FC at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru while Mbarara City FC will face Mbale Heroes FC on Wednesday to determine who takes the remaining two slots.

‘As FUFA we need to build a very strong and robust judicial team that is going to compose of members and some secretariat staff. The secretariat personnel ought to be competent enough to support members who are volunteers coming from other world(s) including coming from the legal fraternity/background to try and help us take decisions. At the moment FUFA is employing two full time lawyers who are supporting the judicial bodies from a secretariat point of view; to collect the evidence, to make the communications, to make sure the rules are interpreted accordingly among others but then we rely on the judicial bodies to interpret, apply and take judicial decisions on behalf of FUFA.’ the president remarked.

We can always have discussions around in case of challenges and grievances and I commit to always be around to see how we navigate. Secondly, I suggest that the secretariat should work around having us taking stock of some of these issues that come up. Members of these committees probably chairpersons (and maybe in the presence of other members) can always be meeting probably every three months to have quarterly discussions and take stock of what is happening and if need be, be reporting to the Executive on what is happening.” Dr. Azar stated.

The worst enemy for any athlete is Injuries. No player loves the sight of medical staff in the treatment room and let alone the rehabilitation journey. Whereas minor injuries can mean a quick recovery, more serious ones come with concerns and at times career threatening.
One of this season’s accomplished players Naome Nagadya has a testimony to this kind of life. The She Corporate FC midfielder had to take a three year sabbatical due to a persistent knee injury that bothered her for long spells until she sought for treatment.

Not so many players regain their form after recovering from such injuries but Nagadya has been able to defy odds and become one of the key players for her club.

FUFA Media had a one on one chat with the creative midfielder (referred to as NN in the interview) and below is the excerpt.
FUFA Media: You got back to playing football after three years out, first of all how do you feel that you have been able to return?
NN: I am really happy that after almost three years, I was able to get back to playing football again. It is my passion and I felt I could still offer something to the game. I am really enjoying myself again and hoping for even better outings.
Naome Nagadya (right in white) in action against Buikwe She Red Stars players in red.
FUFA Media: What had forced you into retirement at a very young age?
NN: I had a recurring knee injury that kept disturbing me. I was always on and off. It made it so difficult for me to even kick a ball with ease. I could not play well. I could hardly play any football. I took a decision to rest from the game on the advice of medical personnel after getting treatment. The long helped me to recover fully and that is how I was able to return at the start of this season. It was a painful process but I am happy to be back and playing again.
Supr midfielder and leader Naome Nagadya
FUFA Media: What compelled you to return and how easy or hard has it been for you to get back?
NN: I will say the passion for the game. Some people thought I had retired but the love for football compelled me to get back and when I felt my body could still carry on, I kept believing that I would return one day after overcoming my injury concerns.
Naome Nagadya (second from right) was part of the Crested Cranes team that played at CECAFA Women’s Championship in 2016.
FUFA Media: You featured for She Corporate before temporarily quitting and now back on the same team. Did management talk to you or you approached them and how easy was it for you to rejoin?
NN: She Corporate is my home and like the old saying goes, East or West home is the best. I did not look at any other options when I felt like playing again. I talked to the Club management and they were willing to have me back. I was given a warm reception. I appreciate the Club President Richard Kawere and the CEO Mathias Kakulu for welcoming me back to the team.
She Corporate midfielder Naome Nagadya during an interview. She has been able to return from a long injury layoff and play superbly again.
FUFA Media: How were you able to get back to shape and be fit again after a long spell out without playing?
NN: Towards the end of my recovery process, I made personal efforts to train and get in good shape. I would wake up early in the morning to do road work and later hit the gym since I had put on weight. This happened for almost three months and that is how I was able to get my body in perfect condition.
Naome Nagadya (L) shares a light moment with teammates on the National Team in 2016.
FUFA Media: You got back to the team and it is performing well. What have been the push factors for this tremendous performance?
NN: The biggest factor has been hard work. We have really worked hard to reach this level. Everyone on the team from management, technical staff and the players pull strings together to make sure we achieve our target which is winning the title this season. Additionally, teamwork, commitment and discipline have helped us a lot.
Naome Nagadya (extreme right wearing shirt 8) was part of the pioneer She Corporate team.
FUFA Media: On an individual level, you have been excelling and arguably one of the best midfielders this season. What has helped you to settle in easily?
NN: I first of all thank my coaches Hassan Issa, Ronald Ojurong and Ibrahim Kibumba who have been able to get me back to playing well. They know my strength and deploy me in the position I feel comfortable. My teammates too have been helpful. Regardless of who I play alongside in the midfield, we have a good cohesion that has enabled us to overcome our opponents.

FUFA Media: You were named captain of the team at the start of the season, has this driven you to work harder and have responsibility on your shoulders as a leader?
NN: Yes, it is. Being a captain means you must be exemplary to the rest of the players. You must play at your best to help the team win and indeed it has molded me into a better player.
FUFA Media: If She Corporate FC wins the league this season, would that be satisfying that you have helped the team to their first silverware in FUFA Competitions?
Naome Nagadya (in white jersey) attempts to stop Damalie Matama of Kampala Queens.
NN: Absolutely, because I was part of the team at its inception and we came close to winning the League in 2016 only to lose in the final. We also reached the final of the FUFA Women Super Cup the following year but still lost. I would be glad if we won this year’s League title which will be the first in our history.
Naome Nagadya (second from right of the front row) was part of the Crested Cranes team that played at CECAFA Women’s Championship in 2016 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
FUFA Media: Now that you are back, do you have plans and ambitions of getting back to the National Team with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations around the corner?
NN: It is one of my targets. I have previously played on the National Team and I believe if I keep working hard and impressing the coaches, I can bounce back. However the coaches have the final say on the kind of squad they need for the National team.

FUFA Club Licensing is a tool for both the development and benchmarking of professional football clubs. Under the Club Licensing System clubs ought to comply with certain criteria to participate in FUFA sanctioned competitions.
The exercise makes sure that clubs comply with the criteria before they are issued with licenses to play at the start of every season.
Some of the key areas in Club Licensing include; Sporting, Finance, Administration and Personnel, Structure and Legal plus Infrastructure
With the 2021/22 season coming to an end, FUFA thought it wise to prepare Clubs in the StarTimes Premier League early enough for next season.
FUFA and the Clubs met on Thursday to deliberate on a number of areas that need emphasis in the Licensing exercise and the FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda.
Club officials listening attentively during the meeting.
Rogers Mulindwa, the FUFA Club Licensing Committee Chairman who is also a member of the FUFA EXCO highlighted the importance of the meeting and why it was important to have the engagement early enough.
FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Mulindwa making his remarks during the workshop
“We chose to have an early engagement with clubs to prepare them for next season. This is different from the previous years where we wait for the season to end and then start engaging clubs. We have taken them through a number of issues as per the resolutions of the FUFA EXCO which sat recently for instance change of names of clubs,” he started before adding. “We have also talked about issues like marketing. How can clubs make money, we need more sponsors into our league and clubs must be part of this process.”
Inorder to make strides, Mulindwa believes both the Club Licensing and FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda must be fulfilled to the dot if professionalism is to be attained.
Rogers Mulindwa, FUFA Executive Committee Member
“The Club Pro Agenda is a tool that helps us to set standards and if we need to make strides, clubs must oblige. The time of being soft on some clubs is behind us. We now want to avoid the scenario of having clubs that fail even on the basic so that we move in the same direction.” He added.
KCCA FC CEO, Anisha Muhoozi who attended the meeting lauded FUFA for making early preparations and believes this will help to avoid some of the challenges.
Anisha Muhoozi, KCCA FC Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
“The discussion we held has been fruitful. These are some of the things FUFA has been preaching to us everywhere. The strategy is very good and this time round the Federation wants clubs to prepare quite early so that we avoid scenarios of having the League kickoff delayed or starting without some teams.” She said.
Joel Aita, the Arua Hill SC Chairman asserted that this is the only way clubs will achieve professionalism and therefore must fullfil the standards.
Arua Hill SC Chairman, Joel Aita
“This is a very important process for every club because for you to be professional, you must have all those systems in place. Some may look difficult to achieve but you have to start. If you look elsewhere, the same exercise has been followed and helped their leagues to improve.” Aita stated.
The same arrangement was extended to the teams in the StarTimes FUFA Big League that are on the verge of earning promotion next season.
Officials from Kyetume FC, Maroons FC, Blacks Power FC and Kataka FC met with FUFA later in the day.
A similar workshop has been scheduled for clubs playing in the FUFA Women Super League and this will take place on Friday, 23rd April 2022 at FUFA Complex.

Total Energies AFCON Qualifiers 2023 Group F Algeria Uganda Niger Tanzania
Uganda Senior Men’s National Football Team has learnt its opponents for the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers Cote D’Ivoire 2023.
In the draw held on Tuesday, 19th April 2022, the Uganda Cranes have been pitted in Group F against Algeria, Niger and neighbors Tanzania.
Coach Milutin Sredojevic aka Micho has made assessment of Uganda Cranes opponents ahead of the games that will start in June.
Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic conducting a training session.
The Serbian tactician believes his charges are pooled in one of the toughest groups in the qualifying phase.
“The long wait is finally over. I personally believe we are in a competitive group and one of the strongest groups. Both Niger and Tanzania have had representatives in the group stages of the CAF Club competitions this season while Algeria were winners of Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and recent winners of the FIFA Arab Cup,” he stated before adding, “Someone would look at Algeria as group favorites but in modern football there are no small teams because gaps in African football have been reduced.”
Micho is aware the three Nations pose different challenges and thus different approaches must be implemented.
Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin Sredojevic
“We are facing teams with different approaches including two Francophone countries in Algeria and Niger then CECAFA opponent in Tanzania. Algeria have had disappointments recently not making it out of the group stage at the last Africa Cup of Nations and conceding a late goal to miss out on qualifying for the World Cup. So these Qualifiers will be a chance to redeem themselves,” Micho stated.
“Niger is a team with so many players abroad and very competitive. They have been to three of the last five Africa Cup of Nations editions. So many Ugandans would welcome the chance of playing Tanzania but it is a tricky opponent. They will have two teams in CAF Champions League next season, Simba FC is still doing well in CAF Confederation Cup and they have good players abroad. In the 2019 Qualifiers, we only got one point from Tanzania and therefore we need to respect them.” He added.
Micho who was the helm as Uganda qualified for the 2017 AFCON edition in Gabon therefore calls upon all stakeholders to play their part in aiding the Uganda Cranes to achieving the target of returning to the continental showpiece.
Coach Micho talking to defender Bevis Mugabi.
“I’m calling upon every stakeholder, all the technical people and all of us in FUFA to have good organization and detailed strategic plan on how we shall approach these games. I’m also calling upon the players who are the producers of results that this is the chance to show that you have what it takes to go back to the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The Qualifiers for the 2023 edition that will be hosted in Ivory Coast are expected to get underway in June this year but CAF will release the fixtures and exact dates at a later date.

The most recent encounter against Niger, the other Group F opponent came in 2018 in a friendly match that the West African Nation won 2-1.

“We mainly considered players from the FUFA Big League to widen the pool that will help us in getting the team for CHAN Qualifiers. The two games played have been a big test to these players and several positives have been picked.” He said.

It is such support that has helped women football grow in leaps and bounds in the country. The success story of women football in Uganda is heavily attributed to the deliberate programmes designed by both FIFA and FUFA for the girl child. We hope to benefit from yet another programme’ said Kiiza.
